The first question is coming in one minute!
can't miss your chats, Nathan. Looking forward to learning with you
A1 share something about yourself. When you are willing to share, they are willing to share and learn
A1 we ask S's to sacrifice their credibility if the T is not genuine. Don't play them. Be real, relate, engage them.
A1: Build those relationships with students and families day one onward. The more u know about your students, the better u serve
A2 have the students help decorate the room and position the tables. Builds ownership
A1: Caring classrooms require relationships built on trust and transparency. Get to know and value each other. Be nice!
Great connection! https://t.co/fj9FsIJvm2
A2 have the students help decorate the room and position the tables. Builds ownership
Checking in frm Pittsburgh, Hi everyone! A1 begin with learning abt Ss, build relatshps, grow CR culture & support
students are always thinking of ideas that I haven't
TRUST should be in all caps
A1: The Marble Theory is best 4 BOY; morning meetings & investing time N2 integrating Ss ideas & interest in lessons
A1 learn about your students, care about them and their interests, build a relationship with their families
That's part of the joy of our calling - no day, unit of instruction, exp. is ever exactly the same.
A2 allow activities to be personalized. When they put themselves into it, field becomes level
A2 - Lots of Social-Emotional lessons at the B.O.Y. We read Wonder & learn empathy. Growth Mindset. No grades - only feedback.
A2 when I experience MANY probs, my 1st stop with maintenance..doers...applied. Give all opportunity to STRUT to share gifts!
A2: Class elections! Ss vote 4 their peers! All Ss are "advisors" & members of their "parties" cabinet. 1st primary elect was 2day
A2: Let kids ID their strength and make them the "go to" person for that area - (continued)
A2 celebrate what makes ss unique, share how we are all learning
A2.2: For those kids that do not ID a strength area, find something they like about themselves and make that the "go to" area
Giving students jobs is a great way to get student working together
- Thursday at 8pm.
"21st Century Skills" using pictures to simulate discussions w/ guest mod
A3 an authentic audience is easier when giving students authentic tasks and doing meaningful work, oh and the internet helps too
Renee, Elementary Principal from Memphis. This is my 1st
A3: Use Periscope to share their moment with your followers - ask for feedback for ongoing growth
A3 blogging, collaboration with another class via Edmodo, presentations to the community, presenting to guest experts, publishing
A3 my S are grad students, I have to stretch them, challenge assumptions and allow them to do same w/me. Facilitate>professing
A3 we have students write tutorials to share with the rest of the world
A3 Have in-class gallery walks, invite Parents in, use tools like to share w/Parents, post online
A3 publishing iBooks using iBooks Author can create audience check out
A3b most of my classes utilize screencastify and share their take on the topic rather than just listening...
A3 connect with other classes outside of your school
It is one of the greatest humans ever Jon Smith
A3: at beginning of each lesson or unit the Ss know their audience. So they'll have to redirect & direct their learning appro.
A3 We do everything from hosting a film festival to running a Youtube channel. It is important for Ss to know their work matters
A4 that is the way I roll all the time. Our class is like an edcamp
A4 PBL to create own mini economy. They set up gov., currency system, created, marketed, and sold their goods
That's SO awesome Nathan!!!
A4 this week inducted our makerspace with Latin students making Trojan horses total autonomy in build
1 of my favorites has been letting Ss design our Vet Day ceremony. They put their hearts in it https://t.co/KZrzuaKTrV
A4 first you stop talking and start listening
A4 took students to they took their own notes and talked with authors
And yes, totally forgot the A4 on that last tweet -
we are building all the time and discuss as problem arise. Use targeting questions allow certain points to be hit
A4 - I've been on Jury Duty for a week (and still have a week to go), so I've LITERALLY gotten out of their way & let them lead!
A4 - I always think of Passion Time (Genius Hour) for a great example of student-led learning: https://t.co/hJUGqvwI6H
A4 I also like to let Ss pick projects that are PERSONAL to them. Here is an example of a new one https://t.co/YFLhI8F18J
A5 each S is required to meet with me to discuss their project & identify learning standards
A5 that to whom much is given, much is (and should) be expected. Jesus said to differentiate...
A5: Involve them in setting their own goals to show evidence of their own growth. Student-led conferences provide accountability
A5 allow choice in mode of learning or creating ex: write, make a video, skit, animation, etc
A5 We also include SEL in the conversation. Some times those skills are the ones that need the most strengthening.
A5 build in fail point that have multiple split off points. They can keep chugging or level up
A5: When you provide authentic activities & teach your Ss to always give 100%, work is naturally differentiated within the lesson.
A5 always keep a slip off activity in your pocket for a student that needs to break away
A5: But, in addition, I vary expectations, give individualized feedback, tailor roles/responsibilities to meet each S's needs, etc
thanks for stopping by Joe
A5 Get rid of grades...sorry I'm late lol
A6 - In order to learn about the Muscular & Skeletal Systems, we create our own elbow joints: https://t.co/x85N80vJUG
A6: Slam/Spoken Word Poetry, Gender in Media Paper, Debates, Mock Trials, Case Studies, Student Portfolio https://t.co/aUS4os3p87
A6 projects allow for multiple streams of knowledge to combined and have various interpretations
A6 projects can/will be great if the students get some choice and there isn't necessarily a predetermined outcome, produces thnkrs
A6: Giving just the right amt. of frustration in a project enables Ss 2 creatively seek solutions - useful skill as future adults
A6b ...but, I think the Ss have to be prepped/shown/modeled, Ss used to one way of learning, allowing autonomy may throw them off
A5 provide diff choices, let Ss decide, more authentic exper, they choose how to shw what knw and can do
A6 Projects are more like life. They are messy, twisty, and often full of of problems that need solutions
A6c ...and I was tweeting from the site, now I'm back to normal
A6 family proj, town descrip, Ss choose hw to design, video, paper, infographic, interactive lesson, so creative
A6 projects allow for deeper learning, more buy-in, personalization
A6 projects can also allow students to be come evaluators of what is the best tool for a task
This was a quote, not necessarily the views of LOL https://t.co/vSXPKVrFDw
A5 Get rid of grades...sorry I'm late lol
This one too... https://t.co/LRyB2cBObn
A6 projects can/will be great if the students get some choice and there isn't necessarily a predetermined outcome, produces thnkrs
the PRINCIPAL IS the school!
A7: Using visuals, map the time out and give ranges of time for when project/assignment growth needs to be measured. Be flexible.
we tell students at the start how much time they have but the due date can vary depending complexity of project
Final question is coming up in one minute!
A7 good modeling, lots of practice, and showing them the importance of slow yet steady progress over a mad rush to finish on time
I search through the twitter app
A7 Explain it, communic expectatns, involve Ss in it, set some goals, work with them throughout
A7 I am going to give them a goal planning sheet and help them see how much they need to do each day to get the project complete.
A8 - We use technology in order to collaborate with students in other states & countries:
- Mystery Skype
- Global Pen Pals
A8 we focus on the tech as a means of sharing. Tech doesn't have to be part of solution
A8 tech is used for capturing images and videos to be used for tutorials later
A8 I use it to add to Ss have diff ways to build skills, be engaged have choices, connect,
A8: With Google Hangouts, students out sick (flu) can still participate in group work from home - not so without the tech tools.
A7 Tech is used to enhance if it were gone my class would not change too much-hands on makerspace would remain focus.
Thanks so much for participating in this week's ! It was an honor and a pleasure to moderate this evening! :)
A8 Tech used to create, collaborate, curate, catalog and compose...absence encourages T centered experience...
Yes!! Buy it, great book! I am so love' it!
A8 use to keep Ss connected & have access to help whn needd w/ & Parents w
Thanks for great questions tonight. Really got me thinking
