A1. I think peer coaching isn't about heirarchy. It doesn't mean there is a difference in competency between the colleagues.
-
A1 - another thing that makes peer coaching different is both the observer/observee learn from one another
-
Q1 best and foremost are to build skills. We all have different sets and need to refine them
-
-
A1. Peer Coaching is a great way to share ideas. Colleagues has the opportunity to grow together.
-
A1 - Collegiality, Knowledge of Framework, Mindset of improvement and sharing of resources and practices.
-
A1. A good, safe, strong culture to support critiques for the progress of student learning
-
True! Both parties can learn new skills and have a chance to practice/refine in a nonthreatening environment
-
Teachers at my school find the peer observation process the most rewarding, learning experience of PGES
-
Q2 How can a culture, environment, and systems that support peer coaching be developed?
-
A2: Start with your PLC process. Relationships have already been established and the process can grow from there.
-
Q2 Peers who respect and grow together are building respect and it is contagious. Students notice attitude.
-
A2. Allow teachers a day to observe teachers in the building. It gives EVERY teacher a chance to learn and grow.
-
A2 - I feel like having strong PLCs in a school creates a culture where peer coaching is successful.
-
A2 If peer coaching isn't a common practice, clinical professional learning with modeling and practice will help build trust.
-
A2-It's all about relationships, school culture and the mindset of T's. That mindset should be whatever is best for their S's!
-
Q3 What is the role of the principal in supporting/creating systems of peer coaching? Are admins "peers" for teachers?
-
Q3 Principals are were it all begins they are the start of peer coaching and model what a positive school is.
-
A3: Principals are instrumental in pairing up peers to get the best experience for each teacher.
-
A3 Principals have to stress this is non-evaluative and establish a culture where Ts feel safe engaging in peer coaching.
-
I think it is a tricky too! Prob depends on the relationship and nature of the coaching, but not really a peer.
-
A3 Principals also have to create the conditions and logistics for coaching. Schedule protected time for coaching & dialogue.
-
Q4 What question or discussion stems have you found to be useful in peer coaching? Other tools/resources?
-
A3- My Job in peer coaching is to allow my teachers the time to complete the process & provide support!
-
-
A4:Open ended questions: How do you think this activity went?
-
A4) Collegial Coaching model which involves pre conference, obversvation, and post coference.
-
Yes! That time for dialogue can not be optional or less than optimal.
-
Q4 How can we improve higher order questioning in this lesson and improve higher order answering? Why will that work?
-
-
A4 It is good to provide coaches with stems such as "have you ever thought about.." "what might be next steps"
-
Q5 Last one! Any personal success stories or personal best practices?
-
A5 - Haven't tried it but attended a session on Lesson Study. Would be a great thing for Ts to do as part of peer coaching
-
I did some training with Vanderbilt on Lesson Study...I love it! We should include some training for ALL on this!
-
A5: Our high school uses a "showcase" approach, teachers sign up to model strategies and others sign up to see them.
-
I love this idea...It is a "clinical EdCamp!"
-
We will do it! We will engage in more PL, gather input from experts, and practice it!
-
Thanks to everyone...you can keep chatting and making connections. 3rd Wed of Nov will be "Improving PLCs"
-
A5-The stories in my building are too numerous to tell! Peer Sharing at its best!
