A1 My #G2Great family always challenges me to look beyond the surface of any given situation & ask deeper, more meaningful Qs that help me reflect, refine, and rediscover what is at the heart of my teaching.
Hi Everyone! I checked in a bit too early, but I’m Stephanie, a literacy teacher educator from NY. I look forward to tonight’s chat from the snowy East! #G2Great

7:34 A1: “Collective curiosity” means that we as a group of professionals will grow our knowledge, skills & ability to apply our learning around topics, ideas, and philosophies that value students and put Ss in co-leader roles & responsibilities #g2great

Collective curiosity means the excitement generated by one person being curious and sharing it via PD, hallway conversations, etc. Q! #G2Great@LarsonMS
A1: To me collective curiosity is all about wondering together. Growing with students, colleagues, and of course all the awesome people on #G2Great I have not been inspired to learn more aside from my students than on #G2Great
#G2Great A 1 Teaching is so much better for me experienced in community. The G2Great people imbue me with creativity which inspires curiosity and the synergy of all this grows exponentially.
Q1. Collective Curiosity means continually wondering (with colleagues) how to better serve kids. G2Great inspires me to read/write/talk/listen/THINK more than I would on my own. #g2great
A1: No doubt that many #G2Great educators will say, respond, or post something to get my wheels turning every week! Curiosity sparked and sustained until the next session!

#g2great A1: For me, collective curiosity is a group of professionals asking each other questions and searching together to find answers or new ways of doing things. It’s the way I like to learn with m colleges and tweeps.
A1 I like your thoughts on collective curiosity, Jill. to me Collective curiosity is powered by wonder and inquisitive natures of passion-filled people in quest of new pathways. #G2Great
A1: #G2Great attracts educators who answer questions brilliantly, but more importantly who ask questions. The more we ask and delve deeper, the more we grow as a group.
A1 Collective curiosity is the very heart of #G2Great. We continue this labor of love because we believe deeply in professional learning in the company of dedication and joyful others. You’ve inspired us for 3 years & counting!
A1: Collective Curiosity to me is learning & growing together as professionals. Through collaboration & conversations much can be learned and gained as teachers and students of education. #g2great
Collective curiosity means the excitement generated by one person being curious and sharing it via PD, hallway conversations, etc. Q! #G2Great@LarsonMS
A1: "Collective Curiosity" brings words like intentionality & complexity to mind. Professional curiosity is my long time passion. To move curiosity from something that sounds nice to something REAL for educators, we need many ways to see it in action in schools. #G2Great
A1 Collective curiosity is about connecting and learning together. #G2Great supports this by creating a welcoming community of learners who share new ideas and ways of thinking.
#G2Great A1 has become a place that honors asking questions, playing with ideas, & refining practices, where one is challenged, encouraged, & inspired to keep moving onward and upward as educators
A1 We never anticipated what has become a remarkable #G2reat journey. How could we possibly have known that what began as a 6-week study of my book, Good to Great Teaching, would prove to be life-altering? #G2Great
I love that Kathleen because these aren’t questions OTHERS tell us to answer but the ones that brew deep inside. The best kind (applies to kids too) #g2great (and hi friend - so happy you’re here)
A1: Instead of making a situation about us and how it makes us feel about ourselves, become observers. Start wondering why something is true. Often, it’s not about having the right answer. It’s about asking the right questions. Create a safe place to inquire. #G2Great

A1 Collective curiosity means asking questions about students, teaching and learning with my colleagues, searching for possible solutions/strategies, then finding out what works. #G2great
A1 In classroom, it means being open to others' interests and sparking new ones. Here, I'm always excited to learn what others are doing to make my practice even better!
#G2great
That's what makes us better teachers---the wondering how we can meet their needs. It never stops for us and I can't imagine retirement will prevent that. #g2great
Q1. Collective Curiosity means continually wondering (with colleagues) how to better serve kids. G2Great inspires me to read/write/talk/listen/THINK more than I would on my own. #g2great
A1: My #G2Great Family and #PLN challenges my THINKING and allows me to step outside of my comfort zone and think outside the box! I love it! We must GROW as learners and ALWAYS be CURIOUS!
A1 Collective curiosity is about pushing your team to question the status quo, strategies, collaboration techniques. It is about inquiry and finding different ways to support kids & their learning. It is about growing & learning together. #g2great
Hi all! I’m Brooksie Kramer, HS librarian from VA who is passionate about encouraging curiosity! Glad to join my 1st #G2Great chat on this 3rd anniversary.
A1 Collective curiosity-what a great term. I love that together we can ponder more than I can alone. Questions others have asked have stimulated my thinking and learning so often! #g2great

Good to chat with you again Christine. It has been awhile. A1 We learn; we grow as lifelong learners when we gather and chat about edupractices. #G2Great

A1: "Collective curiosity" is that great space where we consider the possibilities of what could be if we stay focused and determined on doing what's right. #g2great
A1: Collective Curiosity means working together with others to create new ideas/discuss/invent. I get so many ideas and learning from all my colleagues! #g2great
Hey @FinRayCruz ! I YOU keep me curious and learning professionally! I would never be who I am as a teacher if I did not have you as a foundational influence. #Windermere#G2Great
A1 #G2Great is more than a Twitter chat – it has become a family of learners and we are just along for the ride. Week after week you show up and grace us with your wisdom and dedication to kids. #G2Great
Isn’t it amazing that we can do that any time of day Pam. I can’t tell you how often I wake up in the middle of the night and get so excited by a tweet I just have to respond! ❤️ #g2great
A1: No doubt that many #G2Great educators will say, respond, or post something to get my wheels turning every week! Curiosity sparked and sustained until the next session!

A1: My late grandmother, a former teacher, always said that just because I'm now a teacher doesn't mean I can stop learning. We all have a responsibility to keep learning from each other. #g2great
A1:collective curiosity is what gives me the drive to keep going on those days that are tough. It supports my self reflection. There's not one Thursday night I don't leave #g2great without many nuggets of wisdom. You all energize me.
Hello, former high school English teacher, current assistant superintendent and proud father of @mrbgilson happy to sit in on the conversation. Curious to learn. Cheers #G2Great
Right, Lena. The push is the key. If we just agree, or worse, say nothing, then no one grows. Push - ask the deeper thinking Qs. That results in growth -- for Ts and Ss #G2Great
A1 #G2Great is more than a Twitter chat – it has become a family of learners and we are just along for the ride. Week after week you show up and grace us with your wisdom and dedication to kids. #G2Great
A2 Listening to and learning from our Ss provides us with the knowledge to create invitations for Ss to further investigation their curiosities within classrooms. #G2Great
Yes and the more questions we ask collectively the more questions rise from those questions. It’s a never ending curiosity trail and we NEVER know where it will lead us ❤️ #g2great
A1: #G2Great attracts educators who answer questions brilliantly, but more importantly who ask questions. The more we ask and delve deeper, the more we grow as a group.
Hello everybody! Elisa, grade 4 T in Calgary. A little late ‘cause I’m surfing the internet searching for houses for sale. Got carried away w/the time. But I’m here now! #G2great
A1 Collective curiosity-what a great term. I love that together we can ponder more than I can alone. Questions others have asked have stimulated my thinking and learning so often! #g2great
I love the idea of pushing the status quo. The best teams I've been on have been brave enough to do this in a regular basis. And it really does take bravery when you're first starting to do this with a team. #G2Great
A1 Collective curiosity is about pushing your team to question the status quo, strategies, collaboration techniques. It is about inquiry and finding different ways to support kids & their learning. It is about growing & learning together. #g2great
A1 #G2Great is more than a Twitter chat – it has become a family of learners and we are just along for the ride. Week after week you show up and grace us with your wisdom and dedication to kids. #G2Great
A2 To promote curiosity, you let students lead with questions & inquiry. Let Ss practice asking questions, guide them in ways to research and hypothesize. Give them opportunity to demonstrate learning in their choice. Build on their learning & their questions. #g2great
A2 Curiosity MUST begin within each of us. We talk a great deal about curiosity for kids, but that’s a pipe dream if we don’t bring our own inner child sense of curiosity to the learning table EVERY DAY! #G2Great
A1 Collective curiosity is about connecting and learning together. #G2Great supports this by creating a welcoming community of learners who share new ideas and ways of thinking.
Being here with you tonight brings me joy! (And your wonderful pics on social media of your girls!)...see another amazing prof. relationship and incredible friendship from #G2Great

Hello, former high school English teacher, current assistant superintendent and proud father of @mrbgilson happy to sit in on the conversation. Curious to learn. Cheers #G2Great
A2 I build in places for wonder, exploration and student choice to provide opportunities for my students to explore what they are interested in #g2great
A2: Easy peezy for me (since I am learning more every day)- being comfortable modeling my wonder, be open to others' wonders, and learn alongside others- no need to have the answers. #G2Great
#g2great A2: I model curiosity daily. My kids are used to hearing me ask questions and wonder about things, and they do the same. We know that not all questions have answers, too!
A2 Always ask lots of open ended Qs that stir up more Qs in our Ss' minds. "How would you feel if __? What made you decide to __? What could we do to __?" #g2great
A2: Curiosity is innate, we just need to make room for it to thrive in our classroom. We can listen to students, take note of their questions, encourage them to find answers through conversation and research, encourage an inquiry stance, and remain curious ourselves. #G2Great
A2 Listening to and learning from our Ss provides us with the knowledge to create invitations for Ss to further investigation their curiosities within classrooms. #G2Great

Yes! This is what #g2great has been all about for me. Professional growth beyond what I could ever have imagined, and lifelong friendships I cannot put a price on

A2 The Wonder Wall is new for me this year. It's a work in progress. Kids are learning to use it independently. Author's Chair is a fabulous way to invoke curiosity among classroom community - kids get fired up to hear student storytellers! #g2great
A2 By teachers not always having the answers. Letting them ask the questions and guide the discussions. Listening to me all the time does not promote curiosity. #g2great
Q2. Kids are naturally curious and research shows they lose this as school years go by. Perhaps saying "I don't know, so let's find out" when kids spontaneously wonder something. Perhaps leaving the curriculum map occasionally is alright---detours aren't always bad..... #g2great
What’s amazing is that I’ve met so many people on this chat who have since become such incredible friends (many I’ve never met but now that seems like a formality alone) #g2great
A2:...& yes, although we had Wonder Wednesday to nurture, share, & investigate any kind of wonder- also having time, space, and interest in wonders ALL the time (Wonder walls, notebook sections, AM mtg theme, etc) #G2Great
Q1 curiosity is a bit like being thirsty. A thirsty horse will always drink so long as water is available. As learners and teachers let’s make sure we are providing the opportunity for thirst quenching reading and dialogue. #G2Great
A2: Giving some guidelines, but providing the tools to have Ss explore your content. Ss in my room are choosing their own concert rep. They get the chance to research music their interested in and justify the purchase. #G2Great
A2 model curiosity authentically by having your own curiosities in the classroom. Let it out, let it shine, ask questions instead of searching for answers. #g2great Thinking aloud and modeling "I wonder..." questions could be a great way to begin.
A2: EXPLORATION! In Science, we go outside and OBSERVE weather changes... in Social Studies we NAVIGATE a candy factory for economics of production... in Math we have challenge problems that allow for a PRODUCTIVE STRUGGLE! #G2Great
I opened the door today just to listen to the howling sounds that the blowing snow and wind were making. It was actually an interesting sound. #G2Great

I'm experimenting with Free Write Friday this year - think writing genius hour. I have students writing a play, Ss working together on narratives, rap songs, etc. Love it! A2 @LarsonMS#G2Great
A2: At first I was a believer in Ss being naturally curious but as adults we too often "worksheet and assignment" them right out of the pursuit of curiosity. I build curiosity by turning over the reigns and providing things that push them to think #G2Great
A2: letting students talk; encouraging discussion which leads to curiosity, empathy, and understanding. These help create motivated learners/readers/writers. #g2great
Collective curiosity in action: subbed with 3 year old. Library time & their curiositywas palpable . School is undergoing construction and let the learning continue #G2Great
A3: When we model being vulnerable enough to ask questions and have curiosity, it lowers the affective filter (Stephen Krashen) of our students; questioning is key to deep learning. #G2Great
A2 Curiosity doesn’t happen by chance. We must create a rich environment that beckons curiosity from the minute kids walk in until they leave. It’s not a “goal” but a way of living in our learning spaces side by side. #G2Great
A2: A strategy I learned from @owpmu. Instead of giving students a compelling question at the front end, give students an image related to the topic at hand. “I see, I think, I wonder.” Allow them to explore, discover, and investigate their own questions. #G2Great
Surprises everywhere… and it’s impossible to find those surprises when boxes lead the way! Curiosity is people centered and reside deep within and then just grows and grows #g2great
A2: Curiosity is innate, we just need to make room for it to thrive in our classroom. We can listen to students, take note of their questions, encourage them to find answers through conversation and research, encourage an inquiry stance, and remain curious ourselves. #G2Great
A2: By refusing to settle for initial responses. Asking "How do we know? "How can we explain this differently?" Also, by responding to student inquiry with an additional question for consideration. #g2great
It's been important for me... not just to think with curiosity, but to act with curiosity.
Try new things. Fail. Revise. Try again. In front of kids. So they do it too. #G2Great
A2: You need to give students a voice in their learning. Whether it is through #geniushour projects or using things like @Flipgrid where students can explore outside the classroom, it beings with asking questions that promote exploration, curiosity and research! #g2great
A2: First, sorry I am late. I had to pick up a thespian from Hunchback rehearsal. Second, I think we employ curiosity when we consider, "You know that thing we learned? How might it apply to this text or this situation?" Curious Connections. #g2great
A2 Listening to and learning from our Ss provides us with the knowledge to create invitations for Ss to further investigation their curiosities within classrooms. #G2Great
A2: Yes, @ShelfieTalk nailed it. That fascination in the presence of all Ss... even during the seemingly mundane events of the day... that awe of a learner in bloom is the fuel for our curiosity as Ts. #G2Great
A2 Listening to and learning from our Ss provides us with the knowledge to create invitations for Ss to further investigation their curiosities within classrooms. #G2Great
#g2great Which is why I felt no trepidation in coming up to you at that restaurant in St. Louis back in November. I felt like we already knew each other!
A2 Listening to and learning from our Ss provides us with the knowledge to create invitations for Ss to further investigation their curiosities within classrooms. #G2Great
A2: First, sorry I am late. I had to pick up a thespian from Hunchback rehearsal. Second, I think we employ curiosity when we consider, "You know that thing we learned? How might it apply to this text or this situation?" Curious Connections. #g2great

A2: skyping with authors and classrooms around the world; global read aloud; as well as other activities that promote engagement around the world. #g2great
A2... & starting learning (with both Ss and Ts) around wonders: this helps shape experience & move learning to the zone of relevance b/c it stems from those in the mix- and in the moment #G2Great
A2 Reading writing talking from the heart is the best curiosity inspiration I can imagine. We awaken curiosity when we put student choice at the center with engaged learning opportunities in their path at each turn! #G2Great
It's been important for me... not just to think with curiosity, but to act with curiosity.
Try new things. Fail. Revise. Try again. In front of kids. So they do it too. #G2Great
A2 I'm currently working with a group of 4th & 5th graders learning about birds. I project a live bird cam while we're working. They love noticing new birds, then researching to learn more about them. #G2great
#G2Great A2 prioritizing student voice and choice, making time and space for Ss to ask their own questions and bask in the joy of wonder...When I taught used a Wonder Wall to highlight Ss wonderings
A2 I’ve started giving Ss time 2 research any question they are curious about and create a slide or some kind of visual presentation for the class. We haven’t shared yet. Just in the piloting stage of this process that I would like to solidify during the 2nd semester. #G2great
A2: My Ss tell me that they feel free to be curious around me because I never shut them down, even when they think the question is odd. We have to intentionally value the feelings of our Ss and give them the space to be creative on their own terms, not ours. #G2Great
A2: Provide students with the opportunity to solve real-world problems that have societal impact. In my Computer Science class, students develop apps that solve a real problem in the school and community. Authenticity. #G2Great
#G2Great "People like you and I, though mortal of course like everyone else, do not grow old no matter how long we live ... never cease to stand like curious children before the great mystery into which we were born."
ALBERT EINSTEIN, letter to Otto Juliusburger, Sep. 29, 1942
Surprises everywhere… and it’s impossible to find those surprises when boxes lead the way! Curiosity is people centered and reside deep within and then just grows and grows #g2great
A2: My library program is all about authentic inquiry & independent reading choice. Allowing for choice in topic or reading material encourages Ss to explore. #G2Great
A2 Of course, I am going to say that noticing and wondering is a strong intentional practice to encourage students to engage in. @Wonderopolis is a great source of information to explore. #G2Great
In reply to
@brennanamy, @mrbgilson, @donohoe_kitty, @Wonderopolis
A2- Provide time and space to honor students curiosity. You wont' find that if you follow a "program". Let students curiosity and questions be the "program". #G2Great
7:48 A3: Curiosity can allow for co-creation of curriculum and learning activities. Not just T ideas. Best of ALL worlds when collaborative inquiry provides Ss w/ voice and choice in learning topics and ways to share learning.
#G2Great
#G2Great@johnnydowney@ssvincent A4 I like to get my students used to being mindful so that they learn to wait before responding in discussions. This gives the introverts reflection time and it's a good lesson for the extroverts. We can learn together.
A1 Collective curiosity is about pushing your team to question the status quo, strategies, collaboration techniques. It is about inquiry and finding different ways to support kids & their learning. It is about growing & learning together. #g2great
.@LitCoachLady Grapple is one of my favorite verbs! Bring it on in our classrooms and our professional communities. Productive struggle for all! #G2Great
Q2 #G2Great model, model, model build a common schema for wonderful stories from around the world, introduce students to the amazing places, people, and things in our word!
A2: I like to throw questions back at my kids when we are having discussions and they ask me something. simple and effective. Especially when I can throw in some quick partner talk and share time. #G2Great
A2: Being open to a students curiosity is key, less walls and constraints on how they learn more open opportunities. We grow more when we are allowed out of the box, so does out curiosity when we can think out of it. #g2great
A3 There are few things more powerful than merger we create when we build a sense of collective curiosity. We can maximize the curious air when we stretch its impact across our learning spaces from all sides. #G2Great
A3: Curiosity creates the possibility for students to question, to wonder and to trust themselves that they have a voice that can one day change the world too. I saw this video today that really captured this! https://t.co/gSBnAkwSDQ#G2Great
A3 When we promote curiosity, we encourage questions and leadership. We model the desired behavior and the learning process for our students. We encourage learning through failure & retrying, never giving up. We push to always look farther and deeper. #g2great
A2 Reading writing talking from the heart is the best curiosity inspiration I can imagine. We awaken curiosity when we put student choice at the center with engaged learning opportunities in their path at each turn! #G2Great
Yep- and with peers too. Take risk to remove facade of perfection: doing so with other Ts (esp the trying & "oops"ing - strengthens all of our engagement, commitment, and practice. #G2Great
A3 It shows that learning should be driven by our observations -there is so much to explore around us. Learning should not be predetermined-learn in the moment #g2great
A2: I like to throw questions back at my kids when we are having discussions and they ask me something. simple and effective. Especially when I can throw in some quick partner talk and share time. #G2Great
Hello, former high school English teacher, current assistant superintendent and proud father of @mrbgilson happy to sit in on the conversation. Curious to learn. Cheers #G2Great
A3 authenticity comes to mind first, we can allow ourselves and our students to have things bubble up for learning. Gone are the days of reading the same book, same time, same day. #G2Great
#G2great A3 Ss can't help but feel our energy and the hope is that they will want in on the action - being curious, asking questions, being OK with not knowing all of the answers - all good life lessons for our Ss.
A3: Learning is full of possibility and has no limits. We can model that teachers are facilitators and that we are working with students to discover every day. We can let students discover how they learn and give them space to experiment and reflect. #G2Great
A3 Joy in learning right off the bat! Engagement and empowerment. Independence. Curiosity. Innovation. Creativity. Responsibility to our audience and more! #G2great
Q3. Curiosity in schools allows for original and cReAtiVe ideas --- isn't that what we want? Standardized tests can't measure this because they are "standard" and creativity is not. #G2Great
A2- Provide time and space to honor students curiosity. You wont' find that if you follow a "program". Let students curiosity and questions be the "program". #G2Great
A3: Curiosity is made possible through student VOICE and CHOICE! It must be immersed into the every day culture and climate of the classroom. The teacher MUST model this curiosity to show students we are all growing in our own learning every day! #G2Great
A3: 1) We have more FUN; 2) We are not tied down to certain answers or outcomes; 3) We learn more because surprises are revealed in the learning. #g2great
A3 I think it opens up the idea that the world is to be discovered.. not a place where answers are already determined. Students can question the status quo when questioning is part of their lives. #G2Great
#g2great A3: The possibilities are limitless. When all of the members of a learning community are curious and have the time and space to indulge in that curiosity, the atmosphere is full of possibility.
Connections between learning and texts and life are important. When my students and I are talking about the message of a text I've started asking, "How can we apply this to our lives?" #g2great
A3 It shows that learning should be driven by our observations -there is so much to explore around us. Learning should not be predetermined-learn in the moment #g2great
A3: creating an environment where curiosity is not only acceptable, but encouraged, invites everyone to take healthy risks. Also, creates a positive association with learning in general. #G2Great
#G2Great A2 I also think being a fellow wonderer, modeling and sharing your curiosities as a T speaks volumes to Ss, it creates an air of magic that pulls kids in
Yes! It’s so important to seem open to Ss! Working w diff classes, I see Ts that encourage random S curiosities & those that don’t. There is a definite difference in how their inquiry projects go. #G2Great
A3: Like all teaching, modelling is so powerful. My students want to hit the gym because I do they read comics in class because I do and they will wonder more, be curious and explore their thinking because I do. They just need to know it is safe and that is our job. #g2great
A3: Curiosity opens all possibilities! It helps us create a true learning community with teacher as facilitator vs. teacher as expert. Less of, “What does the teacher want?” "Will this be graded?" More of, “Wow, I want to know more! I will take a risk here!” #G2Great
And the challenge is ensuring that their voices rise above ours. I think that’s a hard thing for curious and enthusiastic educators. It just is bubbling and wants to come out so you have to learn to ZIP IT! #g2great
A2: I like to throw questions back at my kids when we are having discussions and they ask me something. simple and effective. Especially when I can throw in some quick partner talk and share time. #G2Great
A3 I think it opens up the idea that the world is to be discovered.. not a place where answers are already determined. Students can question the status quo when questioning is part of their lives. #G2Great
#G2Great A3 I think approaching teaching with an air of curiosity opens up possibilities and makes one strive for the "impossible". A fav quote: "Why sometimes I've believed as many as 6 impossible things before breakfast." @ShelfieTalk
A3: The possibilities are endless. I have students who now dream of being a teacher because they see my joy in curiosity. Some are students who has no prior life goals. There's no better way to pay it forward. #G2Great
I am more intentionally sharing more poetry w/my Kinders. No formal instruction yet, just exploration. Have had 3 kiddos already writing their first poems, and they are amazing! #G2Great
.@JWGilson I think that partner talk is one of the best tools to increase curiosity and give students the chances they need to develop their own voice and ability to respond to information and shared thinking. Simple & Effective, YES! #g2Great
A2: I like to throw questions back at my kids when we are having discussions and they ask me something. simple and effective. Especially when I can throw in some quick partner talk and share time. #G2Great
And essential life lessons they are! How will our Ss be ready for the future we can't even predict if these attributes aren't prioritized? And how can we as educators lead curiosity in our classrooms without the same conditions for ourselves and our learning? #G2Great
A3: Curiosity opens all possibilities! It helps us create a true learning community with teacher as facilitator vs. teacher as expert. Less of, “What does the teacher want?” "Will this be graded?" More of, “Wow, I want to know more! I will take a risk here!” #G2Great
A3:It creates possibilities that the students and teacher might not have experienced otherwise.Possibilities of learning through failure. Being curious means going outside your comfort zone to learn/grow.Take risks.Ask questions.Challenge authority.Follow your passion. #g2great
A3: Authentic, relevant learning. Something with the spice and excitement of the unknown. Also builds community- taking part in, navigating, and making sense of new, unknown experiences together. #g2great
A3: the "air of curiosity" allows students to know that knowledge is not stagnant. It is constantly changing & growing as we explore & share with one another. It is about trial & error, exploration that drives us to learn. We need to be curious to grow. #g2great
Curiosity leads to expansive thinking, in the classroom, in our communities, in our life; enabling our minds to grow broad & our hearts to grow deep.
Curiosity can lead to new possibilities, progress & more compassionate humans.
#g2great A3
A3 I love the idea of creating an “air of curiosity” because it implies that we are living it, not just creating a curiosity lesson. If we truly want this to happen it has to be what we breathe in day after day. #G2Great
Agreed! I think It might help if kids had sticky notes or index cards to jot or sketch their ideas and then share w/a partner. Every time I do that, I get more Ss participating in discussions. I also use the proverbial popsicle sticks. #G2Great

I cheer that big thinking, @AffinitoLit We do want students to know that they have a voice that will do good in the world. Can't wait to see that video. #G2Great
A3: Curiosity creates the possibility for students to question, to wonder and to trust themselves that they have a voice that can one day change the world too. I saw this video today that really captured this! https://t.co/gSBnAkwSDQ#G2Great

Oh, yes. Absolutely. This is what we talk about when we say find the "theme" when what we mean is to find "the ME." The reader. You. Me. The We. Us. We are part of the universe and therefore part of the "universal truth" of a/any text. #g2great
A2: I've stopped asking questions that I already have the answer for. Kids sense when there's an answer WE want instead of an authentic answer. #G2Great
A3: The possibility of growth. You’re no longer teaching the “canned plan” but are embracing the unknown. Ss will learn, & you’ll learn right along w them. #G2Great
...curiosity, authentically applied, creates room for things that are unexpected. That's where real change & growth live -- in the improvisation, approximation, struggle & adaptation required to work through the unknown. #G2Great

A3: I think in our lesson reflections being curious about what worked but more importantly what didn't and why can lead to improved and more thoughtful teaching practice. Heck, ask the Ss what they think! #novelidea#G2Great

A3: Learning automatically becomes more process/journey oriented: The end point is not pre-determined or defined so it is all about getting there & then doing something worthwhile with it. (together- as PART of the team, not nec the leader) #g2great
I love this. Independent choice is key. It's like unlocking a door for kids when other keys they've been given haven't worked. The joy in their faces when they realize they actually like reading is priceless. #G2Great
#G2great Partner chats are like dress rehearsals for the real thing - a safe zone. Lots of Ss are ready to share out individually after having tried out their ideas w/peers. So valuable!
A3 When we create a culture mutually inspired curiosity, it becomes the fuel that flames the fire of curiosity-infused learning ever higher as reading writing talking allows us to grow purposefully as curious learners together. #G2Great
A3 When we promote curiosity, we encourage questions and leadership. We model the desired behavior and the learning process for our students. We encourage learning through failure & retrying, never giving up. We push to always look farther and deeper. #g2great
Contrary to some thoughts I think it’s a pretty good idea to walk toward the light, the more we know the more we know there’s more to know. Confidence comes with admitting even us old folks need to keep learning. #g2great
A2 Research proves that curiosity episodes in children decreases as they grow older. Great reminder that we need to encourage inquiry practices and allow students to explore pathways that lead to more learning. #G2Great
Learning is about mastery. Not about grades. We must be willing to embrace failure and use it to grow. It starts with creating a culture of risk taking, where students feel comfortable and not "afraid of a grade." #G2Great
#G2Great A3: teachers with better questioning techniques. It can lead to new interests and more authentic learning experiences. Remember who is supposed to own the learning!
Beyond! It solidified to me that I am not the one holding the golden key of the learning in my classroom. I am simply the facilitator. Let go and let them make their own discoveries, and they will amaze us! #G2Great
A4: Curiosity allows for Ss to choose who to work with, how to share learning, and negotiate roles that they are comfortable with. New groupings may happen as well!
#g2great
A3: We risk going down "rabbit trails," but that's where the actual thinking and innovation happen. We all learn things when we stop having all of the answers. #G2Great

#G2great Partner chats are like dress rehearsals for the real thing - a safe zone. Lots of Ss are ready to share out individually after having tried out their ideas w/peers. So valuable!
A3 It is important to note- for some students, they need to learn to be allowed to think and wonder for themselves and unlearn waiting for the teacher to think for them. #G2Great
A4: Read this from Don Graves today, "A child needs to understand that he is an important human being quite apart from what might appear in his writing.” #G2Great
A4 When you know the diversity of your students, you know them. You can help tailor learning to their passions. You can conference with them & help them achieve their learning goals. You can help them go further to reach their dreams, not just standards. #g2great
A4 To celebrate the children in front of us and all they bring to the learning table, we must become more student-aware. We do this not to change them but to create a learning environment that honors each of them. #G2Great
One of the great errors of curriculum is a kind of disregard for the "air of curiosity." Or, in other words come to terms with the notion: "Where there's a wonder, there's a will." #G2Great
A3: ...& approaching Ss (colleagues, families, etc) with curiosity is so important. I look forward to learning more about the people I get to work with and alongside. Not just meaningful, genuinely fun! #g2great
This is a vicious cycle that impacts adults as well. We must change the game and center the focus on useful and transferable feedback over standalone numbers. #g2great

A4: Allowing students to be CURIOUS automatically tailors to their introverted or extroverted needs! They are making the CHOICE for their learning based on what they are COMFORTABLE with at that moment! 👍🏼😁 #g2great
A4 Being curious in our students means that we want to know-really know our students and care about their thinking and needs. It is the only way to grow! #g2great
A4: Curiosity about ss is paramount to our teaching them effectively. We must continually ask ourselves ?'s @ who they are as learners and people. High curiosity @ ss helps build strong relationships = more learning and stronger community. #G2Great
A4: Students want to be heard and to be part of a learning community. From that truth we need to find outlets for each students to have a voice in our classroom. Communicaiton takes many forms: verbal, digital, drawing, writing, movement. Connection is essential. #G2Great

#g2great Being curious about my kids shows them I care. I want to know who they are as people. They trust me. They know I’ll push them, but not TOO far outside their comfort zones. They trust I know the signs they give me about when they’ve gone far enough for one day.
#G2Great
A2: I try to encourage students to respectfully challenge things they don't understand when a controversial issue is read or talked about in class.

This is a vicious cycle that impacts adults as well. We must change the game and center the focus on useful and transferable feedback over standalone numbers. #g2great
A4: I think knowing the kids is so pivotal. We can unknowingly extinguish the flame of curiosity in students by treating their journey the same. Pushing one out of comfort in the quest for curiosity can have terrible results. #G2Great
A4 empower your Ss by allowing them to know that their differences are their super powers. Let those extroverts work with others and be ok with the fact that introverts need quiet alone time to be their best. Everyone should behave differently in a classroom. #G2Great
Q4. I wonder if teachers understand that introverts become very drained by the constant interacting, small group work, noise, and discussion of classroom life. Can teachers build recharging time into the day for introverts (1/3 of your class!) ?? #g2great
#g2great A4: Curiosity is sometimes doing, not just asking questions. Sometimes curiosity shows itself in a child’s mind, behavior, drawings… we have to look for it - children aren’t always curious in the way we are
A4 One of the most important thing that we do is to purposefully create a learning environment flexible enough to embrace both introverted & extroverted students. This can be no more one-size-fits-all than they are. #G2Great
A4 Soft starts have had amazing impact on reaching all Ss. They have choice in what to do and who to do it with almost every day. I try to bring in a new option every week and rotate one out. Partner work also helps reach both introverts and extroverts. #G2great
A4: You must develop relationships with ALL your students. Know their strengths and capitalize on them. Everyone learns and grows differently. It is embracing the talents of each individual student and celebrating them for who they are, not who someone wants them to be. #g2great
#g2great A4: For example, I have a student who started the school year refusing to talk to anyone but me, and then it was only a whisper. Now she’s making announcements on the intercom in the morning. She’s learning to use her voice because she knows I won’t silence her.
Q4. I wonder if helping kids understand the strengths of both introverts and extroverts would help them work more productively in teams and classroom communities. Could kids learn to leverage each other's strengths?? #g2great
A4: Through out curiosity about our students, we learn who they are and what makes them tick. Therefore we can reach them in order to spark their curiosity. We can encourage them to explore, develop, and create. It starts with us. #g2great
#g2great A4: leaders must first help teachers understand the profiles of introverts. There is significant information out there about harnessing the interests of students exhibiting introvert behaviors.

#G2Great...just a thought: Isn't there research that 5 year olds ask something like 60 questions in a day before entering school then it dips down to 3 or something? What does that say about our schools and curiosity??
A4b: Take the time to get to know your Ss, their personality and meet them where they are, help them on their journey as a "guide on the side" some might need some extra support to feel comfortable to get curious haha #G2Great
A4 This is a great question. It's one that requires me to be more curious-trying to start from a strength rather than deficit model of thinking. #G2Great
Beyond! It solidified to me that I am not the one holding the golden key of the learning in my classroom. I am simply the facilitator. Let go and let them make their own discoveries, and they will amaze us! #G2Great

Sitting in the corner alone does NOT mean one is not participating. As an extrovert (Really, Jennifer?), I talk too much. Let them ALL learn. Some write, draw, talk...all are curious. #g2great

A4: I'm reading, The End of Average by Todd Rose. It's got me thinking that we have got to stop this obsession with averages, ranking, “normal.” It’s fiction. Instead, embrace, celebrate, and empower the individual. Help kids see they are everything they should be. #G2Great
Absolutely! Feedback is critical. It is my school goal this year to increase the quality and quantity of feedback to improve student performance. Don't settle for average.... #g2great
Wow, I love this!: "empower your Ss by allowing them to know that their differences are their super powers." Thanks for sharing that .@johnnydowney! #G2Great

#G2Great A4 honestly my favorite job as an educator...I’ve learned to listen with my eyes as much as my ears to what extrovert Ss are telling me about them and to listen even harder with my heart when it comes to introverts and use what I learn to speak their language
A4 I think it’s so important to recognize that being introverted or extroverted in not cast in learner stone. When we provide options, children can then select those that fit their learning needs within that context. #G2Great
A4: Allowing students to be CURIOUS automatically tailors to their introverted or extroverted needs! They are making the CHOICE for their learning based on what they are COMFORTABLE with at that moment! 👍🏼😁 #g2great
#G2Great A curiousity about our students dispositions allows us to draw on each students strength. I believe every class has idea givers, detail gatherers, let’s get it done types, and those who then perfect. Together they make a powerful team.
A4 When we are truly curious about our Ss, we take time to get to know them as individuals and uncover their strengths. We observe and listen with intention. #G2Great
Being an introvert, I can attest to this. Students need to know that their teachers understand who they are when creating lessons, classroom layouts, and classroom libraries. #g2great
Q4. I wonder if teachers understand that introverts become very drained by the constant interacting, small group work, noise, and discussion of classroom life. Can teachers build recharging time into the day for introverts (1/3 of your class!) ?? #g2great
A4: As a librarian, curiosity ab Ss is a must—my position could so easily exclude me from the T/S relationship. Curiosity saved that through book talks & inquiry conferences. I’ve been better able to tailor choice boards & portfolio assignments bac of this. #G2Great

A5 Avoid focusing on content that will be forgotten. Take expectations, let students ask the questions. Let them drive their own learning around it. Don't create a master lesson plan for all. Tailor learning to the needs of each learner. #g2great

#preach I was once the introverted student. That has changed over time. It could have changed much earlier if I had had a T encourage and nurture my strengths. #g2great
#g2great A5: My technique isn’t new. When we start a new unit in science or SS, I ask the kids what they know and what they wonder. We start there. We almost always hit all of the learning targets. And more… .way more.
A4- My curiosity about Ss guides my in finding out who they are, what motivates and inspires them. It helps me name their strengths and guides me in my next teaching moves. This is exciting and dynamic. I'm always in AWE of my Ss. #G2Great
Content based curriculum is often boxed. We need to start with the basics and all students to find their way to their curiosity. Let them make the map! #G2Great
A5: It's an interest of mine, but a requirement for my grad-level students. Ken Macrorie's I-Search. Each time. I go back to look at this again, I keep thinking, this is wonder with it's work clothes on. Inquiry to process to narrative to artifact. #g2great
Peter Johnston is amazing, isn't he? Our faculty has had several book studies on his work! His words certainly changed some of my beliefs abt the words I used with children. #G2great
Not calling it Genius Hour. That implies bells & whistles 2 me, but it’s the spirit of this time. Haven’t named it. Going 2 let Ss do that. These aren’t long projects, but short investigations. Still thinking this through. Ideas r welcome. Feel a blog post coming on. #G2Great
A5: (con't) Student learning should look like what readers and writers and learners REALLY do: book talks, research projects, shared discovery, field trips, photographs, writing plays, making movies, etc. There is room for choice & discovery #G2Great
A5: The power we have as teachers is in the choices we make in our classroom. We can determine how we spend our days with children. If we know that memorization does not = learning, we can find other means of exploring content that are more authentic and inquiry based. #G2Great
A5: Class discussions as per Teaching Talk by @pranikoff help to pique curiosity and deep learning. Thinking and questioning help ss dive deeper than memorization. #G2Great
I often have that realization as well. I leave these chats checking to be sure that the teachers I coach have voice and time and the space they need for their discoveries. We all join on Thursday to connect and communicate. #G2Great
And so do teachers. It is funny how through so many chats I always come away with the belief that we are not much different from our students. #g2great

Maybe the same approach to questions are good for teacher professionals AND students. Don't ask a question for which you already have an answer. You set me up and I might set you back. Give us both a chance to further along inquiry. . .and interest. #g2great

When I returned to the classroom last year after spending 4 years coaching, I was bound and determined to start with wonder. I love how it has changed the atmosphere for the kids. #g2great

A6: Read, write, talk, chat, tweet, vox, and use facebook groups to pose a question, seek answers and learn more. EVERY day! Today’s learning was literally about fiber optic cameras - how do they work in so many different places? #g2great
A5: Teaching “research skills” without the curiousity component always flopped for me. Let Ss investigate their own curiosities, though, & they master those same inquiry skills on such a deeper level. #g2great
A5: Reiterating to students that school is about development more than diplomas. Growth more than grades. We need students to enjoy the process of learning, even when it's tough. #g2great
A5: Reinvent clsrms. My kids will have unheard-of jobs. I must tch them HOW to lrn, not what to lrn. If my tchg helps them pose ?s, brainstorm, test, research, write, think - then, they will live differently. Once I tch them how to lrn, they can lrn abt anything. #G2Great
A3: creating an environment where curiosity is not only acceptable, but encouraged, invites everyone to take healthy risks. Also, creates a positive association with learning in general. #G2Great
This was me as a child, @mindi_r No real reason other that I was born just really introverted... almost selectively mute. On behalf of her and her future, THANK YOU for this. You are changing her life trajectory. Ts did that for me as well. #G2Great
#g2great A4: For example, I have a student who started the school year refusing to talk to anyone but me, and then it was only a whisper. Now she’s making announcements on the intercom in the morning. She’s learning to use her voice because she knows I won’t silence her.
This is an add-on...just curious if anyone else is experiencing Ss who get overwhelmed when given choice? As opposed to T directed prompts, etc. Some of my Ss seem truly lost at how to proceed when not spoon-fed and it's January!!!! Help! #g2great
#preach I was once the introverted student. That has changed over time. It could have changed much earlier if I had had a T encourage and nurture my strengths. #g2great
A5:
We show what we value with where we spend our time and our money.
We show what we value with what we choose to measure.
We show what we value with what we celebrate.
Let's choose wisely. #G2Great

A5:construction good questions which require Ss to think deeply - not just yes/no. Questioning is the gateway to fostering curiosity. We love the words why and how in my room. #g2great
A6: How do I fuel my own curiosity? Wide reading and collaborating with my PLN through social media! A good lesson for letting my students do the same! #G2Great
A6: There is a bounty of things I have yet to discover. This is true for all of us. I learn through observation, conversation and reading. It's non-stop! I wonder...?What if....? How come....? I'll try ...? Let's ask...? I'll read...? I need more hours in each day! #G2Great

A6: My curiosity is fueled by the community around me and by creating a safe space for me to question and wonder. #G2Great is such a community. My only issue is how to get more of my school community to join this lit group!
A6 My professional curiosity is pushed through reading. Thanks to @burgessdave Inc for amazing books. Twitter chat have been addictive, collaborative, innovative & amazing learning. Simple virtual connections have allowed me to push my own learning. #g2great

#g2great Thank you. Though the hard work has really been hers. I just listen and encourage her. We smile a lot. I laugh at her jokes. She’s lovely, and I’m thrilled she is letting the world get a glimpse.
When we invest in programs and not in the authentic needs of our students we create a vacuum. Ts need to be empowered to make these decisions that give students their choices. #g2great
It is definitely possible to expand upon it. I have several of my teachers doing it and they have been very successful. Students who weren't necessary passionate about the content are now engaged in 21st century skills of research, critical thinking and collaboration. #g2great
#G2Great@suzrolander@pranikoff@hayhurst3 A 6 I love taking classes in things I enjoy: visual arts, writing, and I love tcrwp! In fact, that is where I met Jenn who introduced me to this chat! I am so lucky!
A6: Collaboration with colleagues is key to learning and discovery.
#G2Great promotes this learning. Sure I leave each chat with many new ideas, but also more to question and wonder about. #inspiredlearning

No bells and whistles at our Genius Hour, just LEGOs, writing table, art table, science tools, and other supportive materials and they are off and running. #G2Great
Yes @AffinitoLit a question I have been grappling with is how we help connect students globally just as we are all connected. No one ever talks about ss' PLN! Just a thought. @KristinZiemke has amazing work around this...want to learn more. #G2Great
A6: How do I fuel my own curiosity? Wide reading and collaborating with my PLN through social media! A good lesson for letting my students do the same! #G2Great
A6 Professional curiosity is fueled by the wonderful colleagues we are surrounded with and by our inspiring PLN! People who encourage us to ask "What if we..." #g2great
A6 Participating in EdCamps, reading prof books, listening to podcasts, watching YouTubers and TEDTalks fuel my curiosity and passion for learning. #g2great
A6 Social media has opened possibilities we never previously envisioned. It has created a space where we are never professionally lonely because we can learn and explore in the company of dedicated others daily. #G2Great
A5: Maybe the answer doesn't have anything to do with making it fit or providing space but rather how do we provide for curiosity and creativity in abundance. Relevance of learning does not stem from content it stems from student interest. #G2Great
My prof curiosity is fueled by Twitter, prof communities, thinking/learning at conferences like @nErDcampMI , chatting with committed colleagues @LarsonMS A6 #G2Great
A6: @mrbgilson has me intrigued and starting to get hooked on twitterchats. lol. I read a lot too. and of course pillow talk with Brent. lol we are the biggest #teachernerds#G2Great
A6 I participate in Twitter chats like this one. I read. I write. I talk w/others who share similar interests and concerns. And that’s ultimately why I decided to pursue a doctorate. #G2great

#G2Great A5 When we reflect on past greats we notice that rarely were they the ones to accept & regurgitate information at face value, rather they asked questions, took risks, were innovative & looked at the same event with a different lens and we inspire Ss to be future greats

#G2Great. Teachers often think they aren’t teaching if they aren’t supplying content. When they understand that they HAVE an important role in INQUIRY they often drop the “give em the facts” teaching.
A6 Our learning is not a lonely proposition. Find other to engage in inspired and curious conversations. These conversations are a daily shot of professional B-12 that will keep you forever curious! #G2Great
A6: By staying in touch with my WHY. If our hearts stay engaged, our minds can stay motivated. Our kids deserve everything that is good in this world.
So, I read, read, read. I talk to people. I write. I read some more. Did I mention that I love to read? #G2Great

A6: Reading as many books as I can from the @burgessdave collection definitely peeks my curiosity! Growing with my PLN has also been a greaet way to grow for me. THanks for this #g2great chat tonight on the topic! Wheels are spinning!

Thank you. I had teachers who did this for me. I did not have an easy childhood, and those teachers were my life line. I learned it all from them. #g2great
A7: “Curious” is my #OLW so I will record something every day that I was curious about. I’m very curious about the themes that will emerge from my recordings. I will be checking in with my “slicing friends” frequently.

Hey all, heading out with the family to shovel during a lull. I'll continue to follow this chat later. Thank you all for lifting my thinking and inspiring my curiosity! #g2great
So true. I often question as to the 'why' or 'how' they did something so i can better understand what happened. Then this drives me to question more in order to learn & understand. Reading is a world in which we know so little. #g2great
Oh yes! You can tell who has lived an overprogramed life. Some poor kids just can't make decisions or choices because it is always done for them. So sad! #G2Great
A6 I find my inspiration from inspiring people. Inspiring students. Inspiring parents. Inspiring teachers. Collaboration with like minded people fuels my fire. #G2Great

A7 What I’ve done for 4 ½ decades: keep the trajectory of my own learning moving upwards. Curiosity begins in ME so I must actively take steps to keep it alive and use my internal curiosity as a force of professional good. #G2Great
A7 To push collective curiosity this year, I will pursue & deepen my virtual collaborations. Keep learning with other classes and students. When back at my school, I will collaborate to create a culture of curiosity & kindness for the good of students. #g2great
A7: Commit to twitter chats to meet new educators that can widen my perspective & expand my thinking, step out of my reading comfort zone & challenge myself to read more & different genres & start a ‘sentence of the day’ journal to promote gratitude & creative thinking! #G2Great
Yes in fact for teachers who are not in schools that inspire and nurture curiosity, it’s a safe haven to grow in the company of others. No excuses any more! #G2Great
A6 Social media has opened possibilities we never previously envisioned. It has created a space where we are never professionally lonely because we can learn and explore in the company of dedicated others daily. #G2Great
A7: I would like to find ways to connect with other educators in different schools and teaching scenarios. In my dream world we'd all meet at a cafe with regularity. We'll have to do it digitally -- BYOHD (Bring your own hot drink!) until we are together at a conference. #G2Great
By hearing the thoughts, ideas, wisdom, perspective & truth of as many kids as I can every single week.
Kid perspective on the world > ours.
Every time. 💯

Me 2. Besides conferring w/Ss 2 explore ideas, I’ll sometimes offer a prompt. The funny thing is that they will usually make a choice at that point & it’s rarely one I provided. I think they just needed the assurance that they could fall back on something, if necessary. #G2Great
A7: In all sincerity, I need to spend more time on Twitter. It is an incredibly time efficient way for me to get my creative juices flowing. So #G2Great, plan to see me on Thursday nights in 2018!
#G2Great@DrMaryHoward@franmcveigh@hayhurst3@brennanamy A7 I want to thank all of you for inspiring me and I intend to continue with this wonderful chat. And a shift for me is to be less mindful of schedules and more mindful of the joy curiosity brings!

#G2great A6 My curiosity has been on fire since May w/ a massive heat wave happening at JoyFest this summer! Overcoming my fear of Twitter & joining a variety of chats has absolutely fueled my learning. Reading lots of books I've discovered or have been rec.keeps sparks flying.
A7: Instead of mining external resources for more content or methods, I will get to know students more and make sure their resource thirst grows.

A7: Going back in 2018. Back in thinking that pre-dates my time as an elementary, middle, and high school student. This means looking at a lot of 70s and 80s work in compositional theory. How did we see writers then? What's changed? What should we be bringing back now?#G2Great

A8 We are already thinking of conversations we can have in the coming year. It brings me such incredible joy that you will be having those conversations with us. Thank you for joyfully breathing new life into #G2Great each week!
Really, I have found the voices within #G2Great to not only be experts within their own practice, but to also be of great encouragement to me in mine. I'm grateful. My teacher heart is grateful. For this time. For each day that one G2G posts something in response or tags me in.
I taught middle school ELA for 18 years before coaching for 4. Now that I teach 3rd, I’m learning how to be a math teacher. It’s scary but fun! #g2great
We are so honored that Regie Routman will be our #G2great host next week as we celebrate her remarkable new book Literacy Essentials. Please join us friends! @regieroutman@stenhousepub#LitEssentials

A8:it's shown me the passion for providing experiences and opportunities children truly deserve in this world. Each Thursday keeps me hopeful that joy is the heart of learning. #g2great
A8 I am what J. Reynolds would call a "newbie" - to Twitter & to #G2great . You have provided a welcoming platform as a dress rehearsal for floating & validating my ideas & offered a treasure trove of wonderful educators to follow & emulate. Super curious about 2018 w/all of you!
I always know that I can count on following anyone that participates on #G2Great to another chat and I know-it's going to be great, All quality people here! #G2Great
A5: Maybe the answer doesn't have anything to do with making it fit or providing space but rather how do we provide for curiosity and creativity in abundance. Relevance of learning does not stem from content it stems from student interest. #G2Great
#G2Great A8 this group and its moderators have truly blessed me as an educator, no matter what the week brings as a Literacy Coach and agent of change I find a place to pause, reflect, and refresh. Thank you Mary and Fran!
Also ( I am a rambler) Thank you @DrMaryHoward for the opportunity to provide a question for tonight and collaborate with all the awesome. This has been a highlight and I look forward to so much more learning with these friends I have made. #G2Great
