Welcome to #flipclass introduce yourself, subject, level, yrs flipping? What do you plan to read this summer? Tonight’s focus is favorite class time tools (digital or not) for #flipclass#flipclasschat
Hi #flipclass. Katie from Allen, TX. 1st semester of flipped college physics almost done( writing the final now). I'll read lots, not sure what yet. #flipclasschat
I would love to be thinking summer reads...
But I'm deep in the weeds....
Of planning for class...
And covering my...
curriculum
;) #flipclass#flipclasschat#flipoetry
We'll be using Q1/A1 format to keep the conversation going. We're always looking for bonus questions, so please ask when things come to mind. #flipclass
My reading will suffer as I am prepping for an awesome #ILfabCon June 21 & 22 then headed to NJ for #fliptechec the next week. Also doing a local training in June and Aug here in Central IL and local conference in Aug #flipclass all summer
Joy McCourt joining #flipclasschat late from Toronto - been flipping some HS sci and math since 2013. Think I’m reading Middlemarch this summer as part of a reading challenge. #flipclass
A1 The past month, I have dabbled with GoogleForms for MC and mostly open-response assessments. Edpuzzle and similar apps sound nice, but some of those companies have suddenly vanished recently so I'm scared.
#GoogleIs4Ever#flipclass#flipclasschat
A1. Hi, little late. I use google forms for flipped video assignments. I have paper and digital activities for many topics but sometimes getting the Ss moving with exploration labs without tech is fun. #flipclass#flipclasschat
“Favorite” just don’t look right to these Canadi-eh-n eyes!!! I was grateful when iPhones stopped autocorrecting everything to US spelling (sorry-not-sorry :) ) #flipclass#flipclasschat
#flipclass#flipclasschat Hi Everyone. This is Casey from Thunder Bay, Ontario. First time doing a chat, and learning about flipclasses. This is part of my Master's program. I look forward to learning from you!
A1 I asked my Ss how they wanted to prove they were prepped. They like uploading copy of notes and quick warm up Qs when they get to class. :) #flipclass
#flipclass I just graduated last June and currently working on the supply list. Any suggestions for readings and tools that a supply teacher could use? Since I don't have a class of my own.
A2 If it's a digital tool, I try to make a student account so I can test it from their POV as much as possible.
Anticipate problems.
Expect problems.
Lower the stakes for 1st and 2nd encounters.
Be prepared to walk away if it ain't working.
#flipclass#flipclasschat
A1 you know what else I really like to assess? What kinds of questions the students ask me about the material...and #flipclass gives us more time in class for those questions! #flipclasschat
A2 I just explained this to my Ss. I have a variety of tech, class activities, methods, etc so that when they tire of one type or start
"jobbing" my system I can switch it up. good for learning and accountability #flipclass#flipclasschat
A1 I'll add on to this.: I really get a lot of information listening to the discussions at the start of class. Good seed questions, hopefully from Ss, are wonderful for checking understanding. #flipclass#flipclasschat

A2 talk to other Ts about what they do - don't get stuck in a rut - modify to fit my class. Teaching German changed the way I assess in science classes too - is that weird? #flipclass#flipclasschat
I did something like this on Friday, after a rough video lesson & class discussion of slavery.
Got some really cute/heartfelt Qs like
"Did any owners treat their slaves nicely?"
"Why would anyone even do this?"

Giving Ss time to discuss something while I roam helps me get a snapshot of what they know and what needs clarified - can't happen in a silent classroom! #flipclass#flipclasschat

I am a math teacher with three semesters of Greek in college and learning a language taught me tons about english and affected my math studies positively. learning and organizing systems transcends topic #flipclass#flipclasschat

Yes! Me too! So glad I'm not the only one.
I feel no personal loyalty for any digital product.
It works until it doesn't work for me & my students anymore.
Heresy:
I feel the same about #flipclass
If I find a better method for my students, then I'm totally outta here!
A2 ease of use for students and teacher alike. I’m supposed to consider privacy/account issues, too. Usefulness of data generated for me by the tool. Customizability (there’s probably a better word for that). #flipclass#flipclasschat
1) I can't make them learn it faster (Deutsch or chem), 2) work for fluency, not get it right only one time 3) conversations flow naturally, don't need a script #flipclass#flipclasschat

YES! Usefulness of data is critical for me too - if I can't break out each learning target and all I get is an overall percent score, it's not that helpful to me. #flipclass#flipclasschat
Not heresy!!! That is the attitude of finding the best for students that brought you to #flipclass in the first place. Also the "flip as framework" mentality means that Flip is the stem on which other great methods can be grown #flipclasschat

Don’t forget to search out whether a good Kahoot already exists you can use as-is or by hitting “Duplicate” & modifying — saves you time & work :) #flipclass#flipclasschat
Careful though - my students have found a website to give them quick answers to quiz questions and love to cheat at Kahoot with it. They are the ones losing out #flipclass#flipclasschat
When it comes to tracking, old fashion charting and graphing (something about the skill in creating a graph just appeals to me). As a district we currently use goguardian to monitor. #flipclasschat#flipclass
A3 so far...basically a clipboard. Class list & I check off what stage they’re at. *shrug* am I doing this chat wrong by being so low-tech :D? #flipclass#flipclasschat
#flipclass#flipclasschat I'm following along with the Q/A's being asked, but I have a quick question of my own: I am new to flipping, can anyone share reading sources, examples, information on classroom flipping?
A3 I thought @ClassDojo might be too babyish for my 8th and 9th graders, but I'm actually really liking it a lot for mgmt: timer, kidpicker, group maker, etc. #flipclass#flipclasschat

Ok good thing I’ve only used Kahoot so far as a fun in-class challenge and not for marks! Oh wait I did give some bonus marks once to the winners of one...but I was watching them the whole time... #flipclass#flipclasschat

Bonus answer part 2- another book flipping 2.0 by @jbretzmann also check out edcamps in your area and subject conferences. #flipclass is a common topic and you might find a friend near you to collaborate with.
A4 our math dept has been fighting the "photomath" battle and we are looking into using Kuta and Deltamath for practice sets that focus more on mastery than grind. have to work out the details this summer #flipclass#flipclasschat
Q4 (anyone? anyone? Do you have a tool you’d love to try but don’t know where it fits in your lesson (someone might have an idea)? #flipclass#flipclasschat
Yes, another shout-out for the blog of @crystalkirch - was very helpful for me at the start, and when I emailed her to ask a question, she told me about this #flipclass chat :)! #flipclasschat
Since my answer keys are already posted for students to check their answers or get a hint, "photochem" would not really be that helpful cuz I don't grade assignments #flipclass#flipclasschat
We'll have moderators with a plan 1st and 3rd Monday, feel free to show up and chat other Mondays. Starting today through August. #flipclass#flipclasschat. Let @matthew_t_moore know if you'd like to moderate.
