I still using seating charts but I don't actually like to make them, would love to have more spaces for Ss to move around
Seating charts really aren't needed in a student centered/innovative environment. Teach students about variety of spaces.
Student voice need to be added to redesigning learning spaces!
"Adults are solving students' problems that they don't even have." Let students have a voice! This is great!
So important to teach students the procedures to various learning spaces - hallways, classroom, etc..
Flexibility, everything mobile, light and easy to reconfigure
"Remind students that there is a time for choice and a time there is no choice. If you promise them a choice, let them have it"

What type of spaces do you see something innovative? Look around your school. Do you see it when desks are in rows?
How about looking at classroom library? Ts can have Ss help organize.
If I were in the classroom today I would not spend countless hrs in summer "decorating my classroom." We'd do together as class.

Ts should be taking those tool to their curriculum. I have worked with a lot of schools this spring to do this.
YES - take down the stuff! Less is more. I was SO GUILTY of this and it wasn't what made a difference.

There is so much research on soft environments rather than bright colors in the classroom. Make it homey.

Cost. Fire Marshal. Principal. are often excuses. We are IOWA. Build it and they will come! Where there is a will there is a way.
