Laurie from Austin, TX! Something good this week... my kiddos helping each other with their homework. Love how they learn and support one another! #EDpiper
A1: Ss have a tool that empowers them to take accountability for their own learning. Technology helps to bring concepts and skills to life, make real world connections, and initiate student discourse. #EDpiper#LearnPromethean
Hi. I’m @DrJohnsonEDU Principal and co-moderator of #edpiper. Today was a great day. I feel blessed to have superb teacher leaders. They do amazing works for our school!!!

We started one last year called Knights of the Round Table (Principal's Student Council). We just announced our group last Friday. We will attend @TEPSAtalk Leadership Academy this Friday. Let me know if you have some ideas to share. #EDpiper
A1: Moving technology from only-teacher-can-touch to “technology in hands of students” is a game changer. The one who does the work does the learning! #edpiper
I'm Ariel Schantz from Cedarville University! I'm a junior Early Childhood Education (+4/5) major, and I'd like to effectively incorporate technology into my future classroom! #futureteacher#EDpiper
A2: It's interesting to see how "collaboration boards" are taking off for business use. It's time for the classroom to learn to use them as #collaboration tools and not just drawing surfaces.
#EDpiper
A1- Technology in kids hands means student centered learning that can be personalized for students needs. It really can open up the world of learning to them. #EDpiper
A1: Technology in the hands of students means allowing students to pursue their interests through technology. Students should feel the freedom to share these interests and their technology with the class. #EDpiper
A2: Ss facilitating and teaching the lessons for the class, collaborating in small groups, and working in stations to demonstrate their thinking and learning. #EDpiper#LearnPromethean
A2: I prefer them on carts so that #interactive tools are front and center, teacher led. If it's on wheels, it can be anywhere and the spaces can be transformed.
#EDpiper
I’ve enjoyed seeing how teachers are using their interactive boards to display 4 or more student device screens for class discussion & interaction. Also sending from board to devices & vice versa. #edpiper
A2: I may be heading in the wrong direction with my answer but we have used the discussion board in Schoology as reading responses. It’s so fun to see the questions they develop for each other about their reading. #EDpiper
A2: The best way I have seen schools use interactive technology is by engaging students in their learning. From interactive morning check-ins to collaborative writing / editing... Ss connect with one another with a tool while leveraging the 4 C’s is awesome! #EDpiper
I love Kahoot! We use it all the time in my college classes, and the students in my field experience class love it too! You can't go wrong with Kahoot :) #edpiper
A2 Ours are really outdated. We use for things like Kahoot but my challenge with them is how to keep more kids engaged at once with the interactive boards. #EDpiper
Barbara Page, teacher in Waco, TX. Something that good happened today: MY SON'S TOYS HAVE FINALLY BEEN ORGANIZED (I wasn't sure his room had a floor anymore). #edpiper#TXed#EDUchat

A2 I’ve seen teachers/students using device camera to hover over a doc, projector, or experiment & mirror on interactive panel for teaching & learning. #edpiper
A1: Technology in the hands of students means that we are able to provide a SUPPLEMENT to our curriculum to meet Ss where they are at, in a way that is engaging and informative! #edpiper#TXed#EDUchat#edleadership
A2: Ss facilitating and teaching the lessons for the class, collaborating in small groups, and working in stations to demonstrate their thinking and learning. #EDpiper#LearnPromethean

A2: When I taught in Corpus Christi, the PK & K collab classes would use interactive boards for letter recognition activities. It was so neat to see these little tiny bodies knowing how to use these huge boards! #edpiper#TXed#EDUchat#edleadership

A3: I’m not sure if I think it’s the best way or it just saves my sanity. We utilize their iPads for stations where I airdrop them a Keynote, which has a slide with a video showing how to do each station. They get started easier and I can start meeting groups faster. #EDpiper
A3: I'm taking an e-Learning for Educators course and have heard about students using Minecraft for education on iPads. I've never seen it before, but it sounds really cool! What a fun way to learn! #EDpiper
I've seen so many ways Ss have successfully used their iPad devices. From stations to presentations of their work... I have been so impressed by how they are able to personalize their learning or display their creativity on their device. #EDpiper
Great point. It’s important to build in technology adoption lifecycles to avoid wasting time & space on outdated technology. Hopefully you’ll get an update soon. #edpiper
A3: I've seen Ss reach mastery of understanding by creating lessons on their ipads, for their peers to follow. All by using different apple products, like book creator, keynote, & using their voice recordings to do so. #EDpiper#TXed#EDUchat#edleadership
I've seen Ss playing @PlayCraftLearn in the halls on big screen tvs. I don't know much about it either but the Ss were crowded around watching and discussing it. @Chris_Chappotin#EDpiper

A3: I have seen some iPad content created by students through iBooks to help create and curate study guides or portfolios for various classes. #EDpiper
With so many tools, availability, and Ss “need” for instant information, how do you help them own their learning and take the time to learn in a digital format? (i.e. not skim through and really dig in to all that is out there) #EDpiper
A4: I use chromebooks almost daily. Gives students the ability to use technology daily. From writing short responses to creating lengthy projects in my classroom. #edpiper
They also have software for class roll “spinners” to allow you to spin for whose turn (from your class list), what groups you’re assigned to, which number to use in the equation, etc. #edpiper
This summer at kids kamp, we used iPads and iBooks for daily Bible lessons. It was so more engaging with videos, music, and digital content than traditional handouts. #MakeEverythingMixedMedia#EDpiper

A3- Our students use IPads a lot for making videos of their learning. I was in a 2nd grade in which students took pictures and or videos of their number line for evidence of their learning they had done dyeing independent time. #edpiper

R1: Tech in the hands of Ss means curating, creating, collaborating, critically thinking (4Cs) using a device provided by the school or through their own device. #EDpiper
I've witnessed students asking Google how to spell words instead of asking the teacher, sounding it out, or simply trying. How do you handle situations when students abuse technology privileges? #EDpiper
A4: In Ysleta ISD, every student had a chrome book. I LOVED having that, b/c with the google software, we used google classroom/forms for almost everything & they were able to constantly give/received feedback from peers. It really personalized their learning #EDpiper#EDUchat
R2: not a big interactive board user; however, creating @YouTube videos with @wevideo or @Flipgrid. Sharing their creation with anyone worldwide. #EDpiper

Exactly! I've never seen any of my mentor teachers address it. I don't want to be a teacher that pretends to be blind to an issue that is bound to show up in my classroom. #EDpiper
Great question! I think it’s all about the conversation. With older kids, Socratic seminar. With younger ones, portfolios, doing their own data talks, teaching the class, etc. Key is having a realistic need to be able to know the info, beyond the grade. #edpiper
With so many tools, availability, and Ss “need” for instant information, how do you help them own their learning and take the time to learn in a digital format? (i.e. not skim through and really dig in to all that is out there) #EDpiper
Q5: In a Blended Learning setting, students can be collaborating together on projects, watch instructional videos, create presentations, the sky is the limit! #EDpiper
By doing exactly what I would do for them! I had a student not here the day I airdropped the new station videos. Instead of interrupting my group another student airdropped it from her iPad. #EDpiper
R5: I tell kids to “google it” or go on @YouTube. When we have the two largest search engines at their fingertips, they should use them. If they are stuck after this, then find me and we will chat. #EDpiper
A5: I have seen Ss in self-directed challenge or using flipped scenarios to help them extend learning while a teacher is working with others. The best way I have seen this is the use of Classroom to load lessons and assignments and allowing Ss to work at their own pace. #edpiper
A5- I think the focus needs to be on what skills you want students to practice or improve on- design learning experiences around those goals. Then decide how technology can assist or if appropriate for task. Technology should support our learning goals. #edpiper
I agree. Tech is the only world they know. We have to realize they can and will get out of bounds at times, but we address those times. We also try to set limits and teach/model ethical behaviors using technology. #EDpiper
We are always learning and sharing @CastlemanCreek Please follow us for some great ideas from our community of learners. We will follow your school back to gain ideas and knowledge from you.

#edpiper Final Thoughts: I could not leave this chat without recognizing one of my 1st grade Ts who has embraced technology in her classroom this first 9 weeks! @chickymomma1129 A virtual field trip is just one of the many amazing ways she integrates tech!
That is so funny! I was just telling my kids how we had a whole book shelf of encyclopedias and dictionaries in my house as a kid... they looked at me like I was so strange! #edpiper

My dad paid out a set of encyclopedias because educated families wouldn’t be caught without a set! It was a very big deal! I loved those clear overlay pages, like the layers of the earth. #edpiper
