A1 #satchat blogging allows students to be very expressive with their thoughts and ideas. Plus it's a great tool to share to parents what's happening in class.
A1 - One of the main reasons blogging is important for myself, as a teacher, is that it allows for reflection and dialogue...the same can be true for student blogging. #SatChat
A1: Blogging requires introspection and reflection, through blogging, Ss learn about themselves, their thoughts, feelings and opinions, and self expression shared with the world-Powerful! 😊 #satchat
A1: Blogging is a powerful tool because it is connecting students to the world. They are expressing their thoughts to their peers in a creative format of their choosing. #satchat
#satchat Good Morning from #DurhamCT, where I just returned from walking my dog on a rather brisk morning! #middleschool#ELA So pleased to join all of you for this chat!
A1- Blogging is a powerful tool to teach to students because it is a great tool for reflection. It is especially powerful for reluctant writers because using tech often motivates students who may be reluctant to write otherwise. #satchat
A1 Blogging enables students to reflect & share on their learning. It can serve as a portfolio of their growth & development throughout their school education. It empowers #stuvoice My Blogs page https://t.co/uP5y1JDhAX#satchat
A1: it travels with them as they age and move. Their audience can be the world. The majority of people get at least some of their daily nuggets of learning and reading online daily. #satchat
A1: Blogging (although I've never tried it) seems to be a less formal way for Ss to think about writing - it eases the access to an assignment by simply being approached in a different way. #satchat
A1 there's no pressure on students to follow grammar conventions (which I believe they should) and this helps them be expressive and reflective. #satchat
A1: Blogging is a format Ss can use independently and really make it their own. They can personalize it, use it as a platform to be heard and find their voice through writing! #satchat
New York State has taken steps to reduce testing by eliminating a day from each of the ELA and Math exams - but more changes are needed. Know your rights with NYSUT's #OptOut fact sheets for parents and educators. https://t.co/zfV4AhuzSw#NYOptOut@nysut#satchat
A1: Blogging is an authentic way for kids to have an audience. It gives them real purpose to share their ideas outside the school walls. It also instills digital citizenship early on--to use SM/digital tools for GOOD. #satchat
A1: Blogging and/or creating a digital portfolio connects students to an audience and opp to gain skills along the way. Also, not permanent - can be changed. #satchat
It's a form of expression which makes them more open to penning down their thoughts and opinions. It makes them free in the best possible way and confident enough to at least have an opinion about a variety of topics. #satchat

A1 Blogging makes you organize your thoughts around something that important to you. Although others may gain from your insight, I feel blogging is primarily helpful for the writer, which is why it’s an outstanding student activity. #satchat
A1 Bloggiong allows students to write to write. An opportunity express through the written word without some 5 paragraph construct (we hope) but to share, develop style, tone, voice. Writing to write not to fulfill a box in a list of standards. #satchat
A1: I have yet to introduce my fourth graders to blogging, but it’s been something I’ve been thinking about. It’s a great opportunity to allow students to have a voice & reflect on their learning...not just abt content, but also expressing their thoughts and sharing w/🌎 #satchat
A1. Blogging allows Ss the chance 2 write 2 a different audience & 4 their own, authentic purpose. Too often, Ss only see their teacher as their audience, and they think the purpose of writing is to get a grade. Ugh. #satchat
A1: So many great reasons to blog ... reflection, dialog, expression. But I love that it allows ALL students to have a voice, an opinion, and a way to participate. #satchat
A1: Love the multiplier effect. S's can share their words beyond the walls of their classrooms. Plus, by blogging both short and long term reflection can take place. #satchat
Hi! I started as an English teacher in 1995 but have skewed more to ed tech & ID over the years. Glad to be here! I live in Atlanta. Work at Emory. Reading fanatic. On a mission to transform ELA ever since my grad school research. #satchat
Good morning! Checking in from soggy east-central Illinois and just under today’s snowband. Like we say around here, if you don’t like the weather just wait 12 hours or drive 50 miles in any direction. 😃#satchat
A1 Blogging is real-world writing, and students can be published without waiting until they grow up or get permission. It’s also an opportunity to teach citizenship—how they want to treat themselves and others. #satchat
Hey Love. Please teach me how to do that graphic! Please. Will dm you and would also love to catch up on all of those great things you’re doing. You are SO inspiring!!! #satchat
A1 I am so curious about blogging! As a math teacher, I often have my students reflect, write a letter, or paraphrase through writing - but is there specific rules to “blogging?” #satchat
A1: They can use blogging as a means to connect with others, take a stand surrounding important issues and help provide a voice for those who may not be able to speak for themselves. #satchat
#satchat A1 When we provide #students with real-life connections to #writing, we remind them that it is an authentic process, not just a grade in our gradebook.
#satchat A1 Blogging is cathartic! It gives people the ability to express themselves without being interrupted. It allows the brain to roam freely, consider many thoughts—and yet bring them into expression.
A1: depends on how you use it! 1. it gives them the freedom to share their minds and put the thoughts, feelings, views to “paper”. 2. I also think it’s rewarding and a great way for them to validate their learning. #satchat

A1) I had the pleasure of visiting High Tech High last spring and heard everyone there talking about the importance of students having an "authentic audience." Blogging provides that for them. #satchat
A1 I’ve blogged for years personally but in education I use my blog to reflect share collaborate when Ss are creating in #MakerSpace without reflection learning is surface #satchat
A1 writing lets out one’s inner voice, it’s cathartic. Society in general has moved away from journals so blogging brings that back & embeds an audience w/ it. #satchat
A1: Blogging introduces new possibilities into the classroom for both T and S. It can open up new writing forms and genres, technology integration opportunities, authentic audiences, and authentic feedback. #satchat
A1 ~ Reflection & connection. Blogging provides Ss an opportunity to reflect on their lives, experiences, & dreams & share their ideas with others. Ppl are often more likely to share their authentic selves thru writing. Ss can connect w/ others thru shared experiences #satchat
A1: Blogging is powerful because it gives students an opportunity to write for a global audience. Writing for your teacher gets old after a while #Satchat
A1: As a tool, blogging exposes Ss to the concept of journaling within a community not immediately physically accessible. They can receive feedback from like-minded people that could be anywhere in the world #blogging#satchat
A1 Blogging is a great way to find your voice. Teachers should have their own blog in order to support students. A brilliant critical evaluation tool #satchat
A1 I like the ability to support ideas with pictures, videos, direct links to supporting evidence/references/sources and to create a conversation based on the blog itself or the topic/s raised. #satchat

A1: I have yet to introduce my fourth graders to blogging, but it’s been something I’ve been thinking about. It’s a great opportunity to allow students to have a voice & reflect on their learning...not just abt content, but also expressing their thoughts and sharing w/🌎 #satchat
A1. Blogging empowers my students, amplifies their voice within the classroom & outside our 4 walls #globally
Blogging is great tool for reflection & also empowers that shy student who may want to express opinion so much but fears speaking in front of group. #satchat
A1: Blogging provides an opportunity for students to write & publish for an authentic audience. At my previous school rock star art teacher @jaimeetaborda used student blogging as a means of incorporating writing, reflection & documenting student growth! #satchat
A1 Blogging requires students to think. It’s as simple as that. Creativity and individuality are naturally brought out by the brave who embrace it. #satchat
A1. Seems to me that blogging is a step up from keeping a journal or a diary. The difference? Blogging is all out there. Kids should not put private thoughts into blogs.#satchat
A1: The paradox of the internet and blogging is that it is both permanent and also ever changing and fluid. A broad public audience for their work can be inspiring for kids, and they can get started micro-blogging with platforms like twitter #satchat
A1: When a teacher provides an outlet for kids to share with a global audience...imagine how empowering that feels...how valued they feel...they begin to see their thoughts matter. #satchat
A1 Blogging is real-world writing, and students can be published without waiting until they grow up or get permission. It’s also an opportunity to teach citizenship—how they want to treat themselves and others. #satchat
A2: Blogging reaches different learning styles because students can add whatever media or creative element that they wish to their blogs. They design it in a manner that suits them, not you. #satchat
#satchat A1 Blogging is cathartic! It gives people the ability to express themselves without being interrupted. It allows the brain to roam freely, consider many thoughts—and yet bring them into expression.
Blogging is just a platform. Use it in whatever way it will benefit your Ss. If they are writing reflections about their learning, it would be a great way for them to have a digital record they could review throughout the year to see how much they have grown and learned. #satchat
A1: Also love the immediate gratification and feedback from your #PLN, and kids (and adults) can get up to speed superfast. It's not rocket science #satchat
A3: Students learn to connect themselves with their peers, their learning and their world-We must model and facilitate responsible, thoughtful, meaningful contributions & self-expression! #satchat
A1: Students need to understand how and why the mechanics of blogging are different from, and an extension to, ‘traditional writing’. https://t.co/xziI2ns6bG#satchat
Yes. Aside from content, it’s a great opportunity for teaching about citations, copyright, and the tech skills necessary for setting up a good looking post. #satchat
A1: Sometimes writing (including blogging) can give voice to students who feel ‘voiceless’...it can be an empowering experience for some...working through thoughts, feelings, experiences. #satchat
Well...are we talking VAK? If so, preferred learning styles don't exist...loads of evidence shows they make no difference with learning:
https://t.co/6zkGq5cZxo#satchat
So, this omnibus bill only lasts until September, which means Congress will have to pass another spending bill for 2019. This comes right before the November elections.
And, on top of that, Trump said he won't sign another bill like this one. Strap in, folks.
#SaturdayMorning
A1 Andrea from CT here - Ed PR & former teacher. I love student blogging! Such a powerful way to give voice to the student experience. Not long ago, I worked with students from Kenya who were blogging about their daily lives. Very powerful. #satchathttps://t.co/2EwnTsxFba
Right! Because what good does it do when it just sits on our desks?! Put it out there in the world and connect with other people! That is what our world is about! #satchat
A2 students can come up with photo essays, integrate media they created, they can write poetry and do a whole lot of stuff. The possibilities are endless and limitless.
#satchat
A2 Blogging can allow students to explore their voice. It can be formal or chatty. The great thing about it as there is no right or wrong way to do it. Learn from others by ready other blogs too helps #satchat
#satchat A1 I guess my question is: is there resources to use? What do teachers use to “blog”? Google classroom? A website? Flipgrid? Regular old paper and pencil?
A2 I assume you’re asking how blogging supports different kinds of learning, since the myth of learning styles has been debunked for decades: https://t.co/Q2mUe9XWng#satchat
A2.2 Blogging helps students generate and explore their ideas, make observations, interview and survey others, use and cite secondary sources, organize their thinking (using tags), and develop curiosity & empathy for each other (if they respond to each other’s posts). #satchat
A1: It pauses Ss to not only reflect on their learning, but I also think it gives it a sense of importance. Just like Dig Portfolios, Ss can return at any point to see where they were in the process of their learning (as well as others) #satchat
A2: Jumping in Doug from DE - It is writing, writing allows for all sorts of ideas and thoughts. It is an open platform, only limited by words, apply tone, intent, it is boundless. #satchat
A2 students can play to their strengths. They can find a platform that gives them the versatility to express themselves in whatever way they can and you'd be surprised by the products they make. #satchat
A2: Integrating various elements (video, audio, images, gadgets, etc) into the blog allows students with different learning styles different avenues of expression. They don’t have to just be consumers of content, but rather they are CREATORS of content. #satchat
A1: blogging is “crucial” to the writing platform because of the digital component, ownership, sharing And the personalization of the content. #satchat
A2 for students who struggle the technology is there now for great voice to text, finally their thoughts can come out as fast as they have them instead of getting jammed up in the process. Blogging levels the playing field, can be multi-media, authentic #satchat
A2: Blogging appeals to the visual learner because pictures and video can be inserted to represent and enhance their thoughts. Here is an example of a 4th grade student who wrote for my school's blog: https://t.co/a1bIyHqDky#satchat
A2- I'm not sure if learning styles- but I have noticed that less vocal student can more easily share their thoughts and ideas when we blog. It's created relationships and understanding of the " quiet and reserved" student that I never had #satchat
A2: Blogging doesn’t have just one “template.” The writer has the power to determine what shape their blog will take. I would think #sketchnotes could be incorporated for those visual learners...possibly even @Flipgrid? #satchat
A2: Blogging/Digital portfolios invite Ss to share WHO they are so natural appeal to dift learning styles. Voice developmement doesn’t discrimate based on learning style . #satchat
A2: I think it depends how teachers choose to use it. If every student is expected to post in the same way, it’s not much different than a worksheet. #satchat
A1: A blog is a versatile space. It can be as private or public as the student needs it to be. Always ask, How do students own this space? How can they take this work with them? Avoid platforms that keep posts stuck inside a service. #satchat

@teresagross625, @TheBradCurrie, @ScottRRocco, @wkrakower
A2: Blogging can appeal to different learning styles because of the freedom of form & expression that it allows. It can incorporate pictures, writing, video, etc. #satchat
A2. Blogging can be a way to put out content for learners who'd want to take a look at what was taught at school and how it was taught, once again. It can also be a way to strengthen concepts learnt in school by writing them down in a presentable manner. #satchat
In reply to
@teresagross625, @TheBradCurrie, @ScottRRocco, @wkrakower
A2 If the goal is to get students writing, to develp their voice, a blog can really focus on their interests and be personal. Less stuffy, less structure and more opportunity. That wide space to explore can be very motivating for reluctant writers. #satchat
A2: Blogging can be both social and solitary as you are writing the initial post yourself, but expect to have others read and respond to your thoughts. Posts can incorporate visual and audio elements as well. #satchat
A2- Blogging appeals to all learning styles because you can integrate. Add music for auditory learners, graphics and images for visual learners. You can really hit on all areas-make it a multi-sensory reading and writing experience for students with special needs.#satchat
I agree with @mariglatter and thanks for sharing! This is a perspective I never thought of before. Viewing writing from an author’s perspective enforces authenticity, relevancy, & personalized creativity. #satchat
In reply to
@mariglatter, @ChrisMartin_P, @mariglatter
A2: Blogging is appealing to various learners because it offers the ability to speak freely from the head, heart and mind of all students, it builds literacy skills while offering creativity, voice and choice! #satchat
A2: Visual learners can adorn their writing with pix, vids, gifs, and memes which is both engaging and demonstrates (if used appropriately) deeper understanding of topics. Sarcasm and humor are actually very complex, higher level thinking skills #satchat
A2: Blogging would allow Ss to be CREATIVE - written words, added images, formatting, sharing, perhaps even a vlog for Ss who struggle to write but want to share their voice. #satchat
A2: Blogging has so many outlets and ways to be viewed. One can post top lists, essays, poems, videos, drawing, recipes, how-to, inforgraphs, etc. Blogging changes the way Ss view "non-fiction". #satchat
A2: Ss can be creative in setting up their blogs with various fonts, colors, headers, profile pictures, titles, topics, adding pictures, adding links, choosing topics, etc. #satchat
A2 - Ss become engaged in the learning processes by making choices. They can use various apps in the blog, text, sounds, songs, images, graphics, and more.... all for a purpose! #satchat
A1) A blog is a reflection of the blogger: the topic can be personalized, humor can be infused, etc. In other words, personality can really come through. #satchat
A2 Blogging makes Ss active and allows them to mix research and opinion. This is an effective way to help them learn communication skills and can promote teamwork. #satchat
My students are doing that right now. They helped me create their rubric and I set them loose to be creative. So happy to hear that! Your kids will love it. #satchat
Tearing up Paul and SO honored. TY. We desperately need the support. Want the event to be a success And ALL teachers benefit from #Newark and all the amazing things happening there. I’m Juli-Anne @JuliB224 Founder. So blessed to know you! #satchat
A2) If Ss know they will have an opportunity to blog about their learning, they may be more attentive and engaged in the lesson/activity. Let them take photos along the way to help them tell their story. #satchat
A2.2 Blogging helps students generate and explore their ideas, make observations, interview and survey others, use and cite secondary sources, organize their thinking (using tags), and develop curiosity & empathy for each other (if they respond to each other’s posts). #satchat
A2: Blogs can include writing, images, videos, charts, audio, and formatted in so many unique ways. Great for students to be creative and amplify their voice #Satchat
I luv @NewsinLevels 4 older #ELLs bc it requires no log in & it has adapted text. No log in means our transient Ss can continue learning without me.
Here is the link to this Google doc we use 4 choice in nonfiction reading response: https://t.co/w6JNyAxm1b#ellchat#esl#esol
A1 and @MonticelloHigh kids are moving from writing to podcasting - creates a context that student voice matters, agency is ownership, and influence can occur beyond classroom walls #satchat
A2: Because blogging can incorporate multiple medias, it is a great avenue for student expression. Beyond the actual blog, is the tool which can incorporate speech to text features which can be useful for Ss who have writing difficulties. #satchat

Just been doing that very thing this morning on my latest blog post. Have added links, pictures and for the first time a video. Learning what works as I go along #satchat
A2 a blog can be whatever you want it to be - it goes to what is importantly each learner - not about the tool about what comes out of Ss mind! #satchat
A2 Love this question. The amazing @elemitrt in Roanoke, VA, had students with different learning styles blogging about #3dprinting and global collab and the results were tremendous. #satchat
A2: Ss can find their voice through their writing whether it be a more formal or informal tone. They can write long or short. They can play with language and different craft moves. #satchat
A2. 1/2 Blogging can be the written format or @flipgrid is a video blog- just like a written but with a twist -
Video components there so we can see them speaking their blog instead of typing. Blogging can be diary format or assessessment
#satchat
A2 I wish I taught a blogging unit this year. Would have loved to see how students can collaborate and create wonderful writing pieces, especially if you group the writers and the artsy students together #satchat
A2) A blog is a reflection of the blogger: the topic can be personalized, humor can be infused, etc. In other words, personality can really come through. #satchat
A2: Blogging is a great learning tool for teachers too...and when it is shared with kids...WOW! Here is an example of an @CentralCabotpK4 teacher who made a big change in her classroom, and shared her learning with everyone. https://t.co/wCqZo3WFVd#satchat#CEunited
A2: Blogging gives our more boisterous Ss an avenue for outlet & determining what is meaningful out of all that they want to convey, while it gives more secluded Ss an avenue to express themselves as they might not during class time otherwise #satchat
A2: for my #ELLs it’ll help those who are shy to speak up and share what they know! For those whose strengths is writing its simple a window of opportunity
The way tech is now, Ss can just speak their text as a scaffolding too
#satchat
A2: Blogging is appealing to various learners because it offers the ability to speak freely from the head, heart and mind of all students, it builds literacy skills while offering creativity, voice and choice! #satchat
A2: Some kids (and adults) live their lives with a soundtrack of pop music lyrics running in their heads. Finding just the right song to intro a vlog or podcast can be a powerful appointment to the written or spoken word #satchat
I must admit, student blogging is something I only know about through colleagues. I have not (yet) engaged with students in blogging. We have learned about tweeting (maybe micro-blogging) in our K class. #satchat
My students are doing that right now. They helped me create their rubric and I set them loose to be creative. So happy to hear that! Your kids will love it. #satchat
A2 I do believe Social Media is a form of Blogging. @instagram@facebook Schools, Teachers, students share their stories through words and visuals #satchat
As a former math teacher, I found it very rewarding when students shared their thoughts through written word. It helped bridge and integrate other subjects. #satchat
A2 blogging builds from learners’ interests, offers opportunity to integrate constructed media, extends personal voice, leads to using other forms of expresssion #satchat
A3: Sometimes teens think that nobody is listening to them or that what they say doesn't matter, but it does. When they blog and get a reaction from someone else, they see that yes, their opinions make a difference. They are important in this world; their voice matters. #satchat
I think blogging is great ... being able to present thoughts in a written form and share them. We all have those kids that can do a phenomenal job and we shine the light on them, but what about those who struggle? #satchat
WOW! Loving the responses to questions 1 and 2 so far! Makes me so happy......this is SUCH a passion of mine! Love your energy and enthusiasm! #satchat
A2: The digital format gives access to writing tools like Read&Write, audio & video recordings, drawing, translation etc. for a wide range of learning styles & needs #satchat
A2 I do believe Social Media is a form of Blogging. @instagram@facebook Schools, Teachers, students share their stories through words and visuals #satchat
If you think of a blog as a space for only writing it may limit the ideas our students can share there. Maybe we should think more about a "domain of one's own" and consider how we can truly help learners develop agency in online spaces. https://t.co/IRK8aHatL8#satchat

A1 Blogging teaches Ss the power of words to influence, the reason why your opinion is only ever as good as another unless you can back what you’re saying with solid research. In the same vein, it teaches them to critically evaluate what they find on the internet.
#satchat
A2. Blogging turns writing in2 more of a social activity & reduces the isolation many students feel w/ composing. And because different media can be included in a blog, it opens up the multimodal possibilities of writing! #satchat
A2: We can use social media as a type of "micro" blogging! Allowing #kidtweets, Instagram captions of photos, and contributions on FB pages is a way to model digital citizenship and prep kids for longer pieces. #satchat
A2) In my day a student found an audience by writing on their desk or book cover (remember those? Cut out of grocery bags?). Now kids can find an audience through a blog, and make connections with kids with similar interests. #satchat
A2: blogging or vlogging can give choices. Make it a journal, a diary, or even free write. Allow for drawing, pictures, or gifs to add personalization and connection. It can appeal to anyone. #satchat
In reply to
@teresagross625, @TheBradCurrie, @ScottRRocco, @wkrakower
@BTopink@LaurenPorosoff Yes, agree! Just shared our #studentvoice blog on gun violence (https://t.co/1FjVUYV4v3). We made posts short so there would be lots of diverse perspectives--also, short is sometimes more powerful. Let us know #satchat if your Ss want to contribute!
A1 Blogging is real-world writing, and students can be published without waiting until they grow up or get permission. It’s also an opportunity to teach citizenship—how they want to treat themselves and others. #satchat
A3 because student voice is very important. They're thoughts represent what their generation is going through. They're ideas can also be transformative and move others to action #satchat
A2: We can use social media as a type of "micro" blogging! Allowing #kidtweets, Instagram captions of photos, and contributions on FB pages is a way to model digital citizenship and prep kids for longer pieces. #satchat
A3: Students learn to connect themselves with their peers, their learning and their world through blogging-We must model and facilitate responsible, thoughtful, meaningful contributions & self-expression! #satchat
YES!!! My school teaches safety and virtual citizenship. Its hard for me to relate to Ss who have always had social media at their finger tips. I remember waiting for AOL to load to play games. Ss are living in new world and we have to teach them how to navigate it. #satchat
These kids understand power of voice to influence in the cybersphere - using Micromedia, blogs, and mainstream as a mix of paths - and the learners become teachers #satchat
A3: Sometimes they think they are not able to make a difference, especially on a global level. Empowering them to believe they can is critical. They DO have the ability to make an impact. #satchat
Co-constructed rubrics is a great way to establish clear success criteria with students having a voice in the process and doesn’t have to take any longer than reviewing an already created rubric! Love the idea 💡! #satchat
My students are doing that right now. They helped me create their rubric and I set them loose to be creative. So happy to hear that! Your kids will love it. #satchat
A3 This is all about digital citizenship. Understanding what you are saying may upset or provoke negative comment. Can you make it useful with suggestions rather than just comment. Blogging is a great learning tool! #satchat
Love this! We can start blogging with our students at young ages. Maybe making it private at first to really encourage trust and to keep our kids safe. #satchat
A3 With blogging reaching a world wide audience, students need to realize that their writing will impact others in ways they might not realize. #satchat
A2: Hands-on learners can caption pictures of their completed projects or write directions. Non-fiction writing is a great entry point for Ss who have challenges with abstract thinking or episodic memory when asked to write personal narratives #satchat#AutismAwareness
A1 For me blogging is self-reflection and assessment. Blogging for S can be the same. A way for them to reflect on their learning & their lives. A truly authentic self-assessment. #satchat
A3: It is important that Ss understand their words/pictures/videos/actions can reach around the globe & that the written word is permanent. They need to hold themselves responsible & accountable for the ways they conduct themselves #digitalcitizenship#satchat
A3 A broader audience means more opportunity to connect with people who see the world their way. It can be reaffirming and empowering to find an audience #tribe throiugh writing. It also promotes digital citizenship. Empathy for others who see things differently. #satchat
A3: Ss need to understand the impact they have when they say things online, not just on their own social media, but when they comment on others. Online etiquette is an important social skill . #beinternetawesome is a great site for Ss to learn these skills. #satchat
A2) Kids have also taken to micro-blogging - look at how Twitter has been utilized by the #parkland kids in amazing ways. They use it to connect, to inform, to grow their movement, etc. It is an amazing thing to see. In this way it is healing. #satchat
A3: We want students to understand how to share their learning beyond the walls of their classroom. Blogging can open them up to the world and let them share their voice, their cause, their ideas and let them understand the power of self expression. #satchat
A3 when it goes worldwide they need to remember a few extra considerations including safety and citizenship. Things that go online are forever. #satchat
A3 it's also important for students to know that they also have to be careful with what they post online. Blogging isn't just a place for you to put all your word vomits but also to promote critical thought and expression. #satchat
A3: Our ultimate goal is for our Ss to thrive in the real 🌎 long after they leave us. That doesn’t mean they have their first interaction w the 🌎 when they graduate. We should be showing them they can make a difference where they are NOW. Blogging gives them that voice #satchat
A2 There is some debate as to whether there is such a thing as learning styles. That said, it allows the more introverted Ss, the quiet ones we just assume are doing ok, a voice and a chance to be heard.
#satchat
A3 If blogs are public on the web, students need to understand how & why to protect their privacy, and how & why they want to participate in a worldwide conversation. What values do they want to bring to their work? #satchat
A3 S’s need to know the authenticity of their writing, it can and will change the world. Their voice is being heard all over the world today #neveragainmovement#NeverAgainMSD and blogging can do that for them. The world need them that’s why! #satchat
A3 World wide audiences, unfortunately, also include people trolling to find children at their weakest moments and then take advantage of the weaknesses. We need to remember there are those in the world who want to do harm to children. #satchat
It's important for students to understand that blogging can reach a worldwide audience to understand their connection with others, their thoughts, their humanity. #satchat
A3- out classrooms don't have walls anymore - we can interact and share with the world around us! The "stats" feature on most blogging platform is a great tool to show Ss just where posts have been read and reflect on that. #satchat
A3 From both sides of the coin, it allows them to share their beliefs with an audience from around the world. It also allows them to learn from people from all around the world that will have differences that they may not be aware of. Diversity is a key component. #satchat
A3: Kids need to understand the power of their influence...not only on those around them, but on the world. We tell kids all the time that they can make a difference, but we must also show them how. #satchat
What happened when you allowed for more voice & choice for your students? You should tell the story for the Stories in EDU Book Contest. Submit here https://t.co/UcV0UXckaW#leadupchat#satchat#satchatwc Please share this w/ your colleagues. They've got great stories too!
A3: Start with something like a class twitter page to show them the power of how social media can connect us. THEN it doesn't seem so out of reach! #satchat
I think ids want to have a global audience ... they get that, unfortunately writing a blog is more time consuming than posing for a picture ... pictures get more likes than a blog ... what does that say? #satchat
A3 Students can realize that they can be viewed as having an interesting perspective to bring to a topic or concept. Their writing can encourage or inspire other students. Others can learn from them. #satchat
Absolutely! Design is important but content must be present. That can take place in so many forms. Best part is it challenges them to design and create all throughout the process. #satchat
A3: Students can start to ask themselves, How is what I'm learning important in the context of today's world? How can I share ideas that influence others? What impact can I make with the things I create and learn and do? #satchat

A3: because we’re all unique and the world needs to know and read our stories!
We need to encourage our students to create connections outside the classroom, city, country...connecting with the 🌎 is today’s necessity
#satchat
Sorry 4 the confusion! Real world=authentic, genuine, self-chosen reasons and ways 4 writing. Versus not as real=teacher-chosen, prompted, formulaic writing, to a limited audience (student or teacher only). #satchat
A3: Rule no 1-All communication is broadcast communication. Don't write (or say) anything online that you wouldn't say to EVERYONE. At some point, everyone (literally everyone) may read it. #satchat
A3 Ss must learn and understand ideas and thoughts put on internet have no bounds. This is a great way to teach them how their word travels. This opens up great discussion on communicating effectively. #satchat
A2. 2/2 My kids have used @KidblogDotOrg to create own assessments like drawing part of water cycle and posting for others to see and respond to-
They then become the teacher and tell if if they are correct and why;) #satchat
I never start blogs with the intention of sharing with the world, I start with the class, school, parents... the Ss world it’s more authentic to them #satchat
A3. They need to know that reaching a world wide audience would also mean that others can add to their ideas and thoughts as well. Which would only result in intellectual growth and finding friends who appreciate each other's views. #satchat

A3: Blogging naturally opens up the conversations around digital citizenship. It encourages students to consider what may happen when their content is posted for consumption. Interesting how a blog post vs a tweet/snap/insta encourages them to be more thoughtful. #satchat
Hey #satchat--I have to leave for today's poetry workshops. Such a wonderful discussion today @teresagross625 !! I can't wait to come back to the chat and see all of the wonderful ideas posted!
Sometimes, it's a good idea to have them "blog" in a Google Doc, before they know they will be putting it on a blog where they can make it pretty. Then, they already have the content ready and have more time to create their blog personality. #satchat
A3: Children and adults must understand that blogging can drive positive change on a world wide scale. The more you share insight about a topic the more of a chance someone out there will be impacted in a positive way #Satchat
I think blogging is great ... being able to present thoughts in a written form and share them. We all have those kids that can do a phenomenal job and we shine the light on them, but what about those who struggle? #satchat
A3 my MA professor once said, "words have meaning" and everything our students put out there has meaning and significance. From a historical standpoint, these are firsthand accounts of students living and breathing changes in society. #satchat
A3: Because our kids’ refrigerator door has grown. No longer do they use a magnet to hang up their creations or best work; they publish it worldwide. School has to evolve to incorporate this shift if we are to remain relevant. #satchat
A3: Counterquestion: How do you balance the need to have Ss share their work with an authentic audience (ie. Public blogging) with the need for internet safety? #satchat
Great point! They can have their voice heard! We need to teach them how to do this with empathy and understanding. To fully understand the subject before they just jump in without real consideration leads to problems. Teach them to think before they post. #satchat
A3: Start with something like a class twitter page to show them the power of how social media can connect us. THEN it doesn't seem so out of reach! #satchat
HS Art T in MA joining #satchat late, but excited to talk about blogging. Started blogging in my art classes last year and it is so powerful to see students growth over time. #TABchat
A3: The power of student writing can be so impactful...with a worldwide audience, students can be connecting with others who may really ‘need’ to read their message, as it can be timely, thought-provoking, and transformative. #satchat
A3: I think for students knowing there is an audience can either bring out their honesty and creativity or hold it back. I think as a teacher, you need to be ready for both. #satchat
A3- out classrooms don't have walls anymore - we can interact and share with the world around us! The "stats" feature on most blogging platform is a great tool to show Ss just where posts have been read and reflect on that. #satchat

A3 A simple blog post can be the catalyst to start a movement—for examples the #neveragain to the Arab Spring. Blogs encourages an individual to voice & express their thoughts, listens to & engages with others and continually refine their position through feedback. #satchat
A1 Aside from being a motivating and authentic means to write, blogging builds an audience. It makes the stakes higher than just doing an assignment for you- now there’s a greater purpose #satchat#WO2World
A3 not only can Ss share their voice and experience but they can seek out other voices and experiences as well, building on their understanding of various things #satchat

A3: Sharing globally doesn't mean perfection, as some kids (and adults) feel is the case. Thoughts and opinions in blogs don't have to be scientifically research based! Sharing from the heart can make a bigger impact than anything. #satchat
That is true. Yet I noticed, at least with my students, students have been respectful. If you don't have a respectful environment, nothing will be comfortable. That's why meaningful and powerful relationships in the classroom are needed before any other skill or content #satchat
A3: With any technology, at some point, students realize that they are digital citizens and are acquiring a digital footprint. The authentic audience is important for them to realize that it is real and that they have an opportunity to impact that audience. #satchat
Develop empathy, consider other perspectives, add information to what they already know, connect to people who share similar experiences, amazing! #satchat
YES!!!! I remember writing on dollar bills or looking up to see where George has been. It was little bits of magical messages inside library books from other Ss past and present. #satchat
Transgender troops have been serving openly for more than a year with no disruptions to unit cohesion, no morale problems, NO impact on readiness. Even with “some latitude” granted in implementation, this policy sends a terrible message about who/what our military stands for.
A3: @DCarlisto has a great story of tweeting a character photo at an author drawn by a struggling writer in his class. The author, engaged on twitter, responded to the delight of the student. "He saw my picture?!?!?" #satchat
A2. 2/2 My kids have used @KidblogDotOrg to create own assessments like drawing part of water cycle and posting for others to see and respond to-
They then become the teacher and tell if if they are correct and why;) #satchat
A2 blogging is great for different learners bc of the different choices. Ss can write traditional blog & include pics. Or record for podcast or vlog. #satchat
A2- Blogging can give voice to students with different learning styles by offering choices in how to present. I have had students use video instead of written word to express their process. #Choice matters. #satchat
A4: My team has students watch "The Danger of a Single Story" and create a presentation about a group that they believe has a single story told about them. We are talking about ways to extend the project to a passion project where students could blog for change. #satchat
Hey #satchat folks, join us for #HackingLeadership chat in 30 minutes! Keep the learning going & join us to honor & celebrate kids - it is going to be EPIC!
A2 teens handcraft a “how to “video to share with elem kids - intrinsic motivation to write and communicate comes when something is real and matters even lemonade stand advice #satchat
A3: one of the things kids get frustrated about is not being heard or having a voice. Showing them blogging is a responsible way (that’s key) to give them their voice. #satchat#stuvoice
#satchat#truth Kids got the word out on their thoughts about recent shootings through social media. I believe social media is a digital blog that is ongoing and reaches so many people. Aren’t we leaving our thoughts right here?
#satchat A3 It’s important to KNOW the power of social media. That can be a hard lesson for students. Blogging teaches them to respect it. It also builds grit. Not everything they write will resonate with others.
Isn't that the truth ! My students are always asking if my " Australian teacher friend on twitter " @GruntledChalkie has any #otd stories abt Australia !! #satchat
A3: Even though they are young with the capabilities of today’s technology they have an opportunity to reach thousands. They have input & a voice— & that is beautiful! So students & teachers shouldn’t take that for granted. #satchat
A3: Ss face a unique juxtaposition of expectation to be globally savvy, responsible digital citizens in the future, but often working in the confines of a classroom through formal edu - Need to begin understanding the global perspective at young age! #satchat
This reference to two sides is so good! Finding both people who agree with you, and those who disagree with you, provides for fantastic learning opportunities! #satchat

A4: Help Ss use their passion for what matters to them-encourage them to express relevant important ideas to support their causes! Help them identify themsleves as digital contributors to their world! #satchat
A3: Even the smallest of students can have a global voice with a little help! Here is an example of a post from a prek student and his mom! https://t.co/JJyoAgFDva#satchat
Blogging is by far the most powerful tool in my classroom. I could ditch most other forms of tech in my classroom and feel very little impact... but giving my kids the power to share their voice with the world through Kidblog? Transformational. https://t.co/q5iO4YE6gr#satchat
A3: There are many reasons its important that our Ss understand blogging can reach a worldwide audience. Some include:
1. Helps underscore the power of sharing/spread of ideas & information.
2. They must understand that once it’s posted it’s forever! So post wisely! #satchat
A3 ~ As with all social media, it is impt for Ss to understand that their posts will reach more than their “intended” audience. Although we want their posts to be authentic, they also need to be appropriate and wouldn’t embarrass them in 6 mos, a year, 5 years #satchat
A3: bc Blogging is the medium in which the 🌎writes today! Blogging helps make this 🌎a little smaller for our students. The 🌎audience makes their writing authentic! #satchat
A3 A simple blog post can be the catalyst to start a movement-(ie the #neveragain March for our Lives to the Arab Spring). Blogs encourages an individual to voice & express their thoughts, listen & engage with others & continually refine their position through feedback. #satchat
Ooooh good question! Our district is wrestling w/ that very conundrum! Where 2 blog: anywhere or in a district-supported intranet? Anyone have any feedback on that? #satchat
A3: Counterquestion: How do you balance the need to have Ss share their work with an authentic audience (ie. Public blogging) with the need for internet safety? #satchat
Good point! Speech to text can be used to scaffold the blogging experience. I was also thinking about getting my Ss photo-blogging using photos they take and mark up with simple words and phrases (for early STEP 1 newcomers). #satchat#wrdsbesl
A3: Children and adults must understand that blogging can drive positive change on a world wide scale. The more you share insight about a topic the more of a chance someone out there will be impacted in a positive way #Satchat
A4: Blogs dont have the popularity of social media today but still part of makeup of www. Blogging for change and providing voice can still reach broader worldwide audience #satchat
#A3. Empower, Empower, Empower
School has changed so much since I was in school -sure I was valued but never knew anyone outside the 4 elementary walls nor could I express myself other than pencil/paper-even those tools my classmates didn’t see- NOW-The walls are GONE #satchat
A3- I always tell my students that artists today need to have a website or a blog to get their work out there for others to see. Presenting their work is also one of the National Core Art Standards... blogging helps achieve this goal and learn about audience. #satchat#TABchat
A4: First we need to ensure they’re being exposed to different perspectives and allowing them to see opportunities for change. Then we can show them the power of blogging and the use of social media to make changes locally and worldwide by sharing our voice #satchat
A4 it's important for students to always know who they're writing for and what they're writing about. We must teach them the skills to acknowledge facts and filter out varying opinions. Provide students avenues for them to talk about issues #satchat
A4: Introduce them to blogs created for that purpose. Find an issue they are passionate about and get them started on a #LAUNCH type research-based project. Remind them it's not just their thoughts, but the evidence/data they have to back up their opinions. #satchat
They LOVE that stuff! @burgessdave did a GHO and mentioned them. @PaulONeill1972 thanked them for doing a video for him. They get SO excited! HUGE smiles! These are 8th graders! LOL #satchat

A3: I assigned my students a “What if...” scenario that prompted them to imagine a world where Anne Frank had the ability to blog. They instantly see the inherent worth of reaching a global audience and begin to see blogging as far more serious. #satchat
Work within places you can choose to keep locked down as a class to start with. Share it with other classes in schools or share with another school. Authentic audience does not always mean always public #satchat
Is there a more inherent motivation knowing it can be read by more than your teacher or parent or a journal? I think creating a "link" can motivate some and maybe do the opposite for others? #satchat
A4- what student doesn't want to change the school's homework policy ? My students blogged abt it this year- sharing not only research, but powerful & critical examples of how hw effects them. Now the entire staff can read it when considering the change (which they are!) #satchat
I am at a school of the arts and quite honestly, I am shocked at how many are quick to criticize another's talent. #satchat In many cases it is a strangely competitive nature which leads to lashing out.
#satchat A3. I teach Elementary and Safety and Digital Citizenship need to be taught prior..I'd love to see District Blog for kids...In the younger grades, under a Class Page.
A4 by introducing S’s to #GlobalEd issues they can use #empathy to drive their writing, the world 🌍 is full of challenges & problems they can fix. Look what they are doing today #marchforourlives#satchat
A4: Students, and teacher too, need to see themselves as writers. Sadly many of them do not. They need to know that their ideas/worries/kindness deserve a place in the world. Just because they are children does not negate their power. #satchat
A4: By inspiring them to "be social detectives" like @Dleonard413 always says. His students aren't just problem solvers they are problem finders as well. #satchat
Yes, many “quiet” introverts hate speaking aloud in front of a class during a discussion, but have very rich inner dialogue that, when released in text form, can add so much to the discussion. #satchat

A4: Many kids have struggles that we cannot fathom...sometimes we have to be their voice for a while, until they can find theirs. Check this post out, from an @CentralCabotpK4 mom of a son with autism....https://t.co/dhbJ4pwjJQ#satchat
A4 there was this PYP exhibition I attended about the Boko Haram kidnappings. Students shared their experiences from the reports and resources they gathered. Since their story was online, people in the community helped to donate #satchat
A4: I really think it's unfair to ask students to blog or share ideas with a larger audience if we, as teachers, do not do the same. We have to model the importance of this. And context has to be considered with everything shared. Share with purpose. Create for meaning. #satchat

A4 Be the coach in this situation. Guide them to the topics, allow them to choose, read, respond. So many opportunities here to engage and promote empathy, freedom of speech, servant leadership.... Writing for others is a BIG next step. #satchat
A4- All year I teach my students about the power of words. That words can uplift or tear down. Teach students to use words to inspire, uplift and empower. Have them constantly reflect on the power of their words through Social Emotional Learning, #satchat
A3. Students discover that their voice can have an impact & reach beyond their local community. The more they blog, the more their self-efficacy and agency grow. They feel empowered and engaged on the global stage! #satchat
A4: Provide Ss with real-world problems that they are passionate about and ask them to not only reflect on these problems, but analyze and create ways to solve them. Empower Ss to apply their solutions and act. Ss need to know that voice and action go hand and hand. #satchat
A4. 1. Interact with people to understand what they struggle with.
2. Form an opinion based on the problems. That would motivate them more to put it out there!
3. Give them examples of how they can be of help. #satchat

A3 It is important for Ss to understand the power of the word to contribute towards our global knowledge of things, to understand the power of Synergy and more importantly the digital footprint they leave.
#satchat
Blogging is a way for Ss to share their personality with the world. Shouldn't everyone get to experience the personalities of Ss you get to experience every day? Don't be stingy, share your students! #satchat

Idiotic Lying Trump, a Russian asset, betrays Nation, Constitution & God by manipulating the ignorant & uneducated with warped Christian & patriotic values and Fox News Propaganda. Cowardly Congress refuses to follow the rule of law and honor their oath.
A4 First, we have to tap into what they are paasionate about and get them to examine any local, national, or global issues attached to it. Then, we can use that as a catalyst to what they write about. Their voice can speak life to that issue for others. #satchat

Google sites is a good, but not ideal, starting place to develop this understanding with a limited audience. Can limit audience to specific students or domain and build from there. #satchat
Exactly. The key to any communications: Who is the audience? What is the goal? The answers should be: The audience is my teacher and the goal is a good grade. #satchat
Absolutely. There are always the negative in the world. Can we really protect our children from speaking their truth? Look at social media. It’s out there. #satchat
A4: Students, and teacher too, need to see themselves as writers. Sadly many of them do not. They need to know that their ideas/worries/kindness deserve a place in the world. Just because they are children does not negate their power. #satchat
A4 blogging should always have a purpose. #satchat When students have found that purpose, get them to share what they know, enable others to support causes that are important to them.
A4 #satchat My big dream is students sharing and comparing HOW they negotiate meaning. Engaged, collaborative reading. Practice with literacy not just content. I’ve been working on a tool for it since grad school. Totally free https://t.co/f8VCNBMiB9
A4: Sometimes we just need to brag on a kid with an amazing story. Blogging is a great way to do that, and can instill confidence in a child to begin telling their own story! Example: https://t.co/5yKTOzraJJ#satchat
A3 1st Ss need to be aware that what they say can reach a global audience. We must teach Ss to be good digital citizens but also make them aware that not everyone is always going to agree w/them. & prepare them to think critically about how others respond. #satchat
A4 to engage kids in more systemic blogging means taking other ELA assignments off the plate - and exploring how blogging become purposeful as a tool for communication along w other media formats #satchat
Pro Tip: Do you still have kids who “hate writing” even after giving them access to their own blog? Teach them how to add gifs to their post. Total game changer for some of my boys! #satchat
Couldn’t agree more. The point isn’t to overshare or center ourselves, but we also shouldn’t ask our students to do things we ourselves are unwilling to do. That said, we can also model and discuss when/why/how to maintain privacy. #satchat

A4: by showing them that their words, their creations, their voice, and their choices matter! #satchat Encouraging then to reach out to understand more cultures, ethnicities that differ from theirs!
A4. Helping students understand they have a voice through blogging is to make sure they are they are doing properly. Good research about what is being said is essential. Help them understand how to argue a case well. Don't just let them rant! #satchat
A1 Blogging enables students to reflect & share on their learning. It can serve as a portfolio of their growth & development throughout their school education. It empowers #stuvoice My Blogs page https://t.co/uP5y1JDhAX#satchat
I love this! I also think its important for them to know that at any point they can change their view point and mind. Their thoughts are not fixed just because they published one idea. Everyone has the right to change their view point and position on any topic. #satchat
A4 For Ss to see the power of the word, it works well if it is connected to some need. In my last school, each year group had an assigned Catholic Charity that they would fundraise for during the year. That was always a good place to start.
#satchat
A4:Providing a voice for others can be powerful. Teaching empathy, citizenship, collaboration, creativity, respect models the skills we want students to have When students share their experiences or those of others they give themselves a platform for change. #satchat
A5 This is an option for any lesson so that students can share their ideas with one another, respond to other's ideas, and to bring writing to all content areas. #SatChat
A4) If anyone ever questions the power and influence of youth voice remember that @Emma4Change surpassed @NRA with Twitter followers in a matter of days and has become a national leader using spoken and written words. #satchat
A5 Make it a daily routine as part of the reflection process. Then, scaffold it to other areas to expand the voice. Give students the opportunity to write in the same way we want to give them the opportunity to read! #satchat
A5 by constantly modeling it and sharing it in class. At the start of the day, I have this morning meeting with my students, where I show them my latest post on my personal blog about the places I went to or ate in over the weekend. I always ask them to share something #satchat
A4) That question guided a project in class - students needed to think of their talents and passions then create a blog to share their wisdom with the world. It gave them so much pride & confidence to make a real contribution to society! I learned a ton about my Ss too! #satchat

all of these kids say the right thing in front of the teacher ... be congratulatory ... it is when the teacher is not around that stuff happens. #satchat
A5: Have them blog throughout the research process for a project. Provide topic ideas they can use throughout the process so they are not limited each post to the topic, but have the opportunity to present and discuss their process/questions/learning. #satchat
A5: Create a classroom blog for Ss to learn to use blogging as communication and self-expression, encourage a #growthmindset, give them the tools and move over! #satchat
Visuals attract the visual learner of course. Some blogs have features where sound and clips may be inserted. Auditory learners are hooked in that way. The reading and writing aspect appeals to those with learning style. Blogging is a form of hands on as well in the modern sense.

A5 We can allow them to post pictures of their work on platforms such as seesaw so Ss and parents can see what their child is sharing with their peers #satchat
A4: I really think it's unfair to ask students to blog or share ideas with a larger audience if we, as teachers, do not do the same. We have to model the importance of this. And context has to be considered with everything shared. Share with purpose. Create for meaning. #satchat

A5. Students can be assigned a project to discuss their favorite topics through a blog. They could then be asked to share the blog among peers and all of them can collaborate to write for each other. #satchat

A5) Start a class blog and next time you ask kids to write an essay, have them write a blog entry. Just start. So doable and accessible to all, with many great tools out there to support. Also, find a teacher friend doing it for support. #satchat
A5 Introdice students to blogging by allowing them to write about their own interests first. The incorporate it into the classroom activities. And please, avoid grading! Allow them to express thoughts without a score. #satchat
A4 one of my fav writing educators Ken Macrorie orginated the ISearch to put voice back into college students’ writing from a 1st vs 3rd person POV - blogging encourages personal writing that comes from inside vs outside of the learner #satchat
A5 use social media as an advantage. Have them share something new, interesting, or exciting in their feed. Steer them towards the direction that social media can be for learning. #satchat
A5: I love to work in classrooms, which is why I do not have an official 'office' at school. Many posts are inspired by what I see/hear w/ kids/teachers. Sometimes I even blog in real time & share it with kids so they see how they inspire me. Ex: https://t.co/67toyWVKXF#satchat
A5 at my early elem level I use my blog to show them how important writing can be, I then tweet their writing to famous people or in general, I use it to teach statistics, geography, etc. #satchathttps://t.co/NQWWsgUh4I
A5 Creating a class blog, available within the school community, creates an immediate audience and an opportunity to teach the etiquette of blogging with mistakes staying within the school community. This is a possible avenue to teach about Cyber-Bullying also.
#satchat
A5 In chapter 2 of EMPOWER Your Students, we have an activity where Ss identify what makes a class meaningful. They could blog each week about what in class was most meaningful, or what they did to make class meaningful. https://t.co/gJkpGucobu#satchat
A5) The #20TimeProject is perfect for this task! Students get 20% of class time to pursue their interests & create something to share with society! They loved learning how to use @Wix to build websites & blogs as a platform for their passion! #Satchat
In reply to

A5- It is important to show students what a blog looks like before asking them to start one. I also found creating sentence starters to be hugely beneficial for students who were struggling with knowing what to write. #satchat#TABchat
A4: Give them the license to research their passion/issues that interest them and have them study real-time mentor tech to see how their peers have been able to make change:ex like #1000BLACKGIRLBOOKS#March4OurLives@thelivbits#satchat
Yes! My favorite subject to have kids blog in is math. They answer the EQ with a narrative, informational, opinion, or even song/rap of their own! This girl was having fun with triangles: https://t.co/OZdX574R01#satchat
A great way to get a larger audience for Ss who are just getting started is by using #comments4kids. Help your Ss connect with Ss around the world. They can learn the stories of others and share their own. Plus it's pretty cool to connect with Ss from other countries! #satchat
A4 I think blogging holds us all (students & adults) accountable for what we write. I am saddened with the dark side of humanity that social media has exposed & enjoy thoughtful, insightful writing, especially from kids #satchat
A5: I would love for kids to blog about what they are doing in EVERY class, not just in math or ELA, so they can make connections among all content! #satchat
A5 in my previous school I had my students take pictures and create their own captions for the pictures. I used those captions for our school class blog. #satchat
A4 Encourage Ss by showing them we value what they have to say and telling them their voice is important! But also modeling for them. Sharing our voices and how we get ours out there! #satchat
A4: Helping students to understand the power of having a global voice, via blogging, can inspire them to become writers...sometimes an authentic audience and topics they are passionate about can lead students to believe they can make a difference! #satchat
#RockStar! When students are able to connect what they’re learning and apply it in an authentic real-world way their learning is deeper & more meaningful! #satchat
A3- I always tell my students that artists today need to have a website or a blog to get their work out there for others to see. Presenting their work is also one of the National Core Art Standards... blogging helps achieve this goal and learn about audience. #satchat#TABchat
Yes!! Every time I tell my students we’re using @writereaderapp they get SO excited because they know their work will be published for the world to see!! 🌟🙌🏼💕📖📚 💻 #satchat
Blogging provides those quiet students, the reluctant ones, an opportunity to share and receive feedback in a way that is safe and freeing at the same time #satchat
A5: Step 1, model best practice. Make it meaningful for you as a teacher (get a wordpress or edublog) and they will see the power of blogging, writing and sharing in their own learning. There are few mediums that have the same ability to reach a wide audience #satchat
A5: As an admin I could create a school blog and highlight students who want to share their voice about things they are learning, thoughts for the future, positive experiences, etc. Provides an inside look into how our school is a true community of learners. #satchat
A5. My kiddos just finished Workd Creative Writing Month which is a challenge that goes beyond our 4 walls! We were 1st place for 2nd grade and 18th overall out of 384 classes all over globe all differ. Grades! Kids even came in during our spring break to write!! #satchat
This is a good point and I think maybe inherent to writing vs some other subject. You may not do all the math problems with students, but if they see you as a writer, it may help motivate them to try. #satchat

Yes! This is how I have my students use their blog. I ask them to reflect on their artistic process and the Studio Habits of Mind. I love reading their responses. #learningmadevisible#satchat
A5 I currently teach kinder. But I think a good start for me would be to share the idea that I blog. I also lead a mentor group for 4/5th girls and could definitely get them started with blogging. #satchat

A1 I wrote this blog post about blogging for reflection not too long ago, and even though it's aimed at Ts, I feel the reasons are the same for Ss. Blogging gives ppl a reflective outlet to make headspace for other things. That's my fave reason.
https://t.co/NS7RxWOmQ6#satchat
A5: I also have Ss blog about important issues in the community (U of S Investigative Journalism Writing) and Book Reviews on their Independent Reading Books. #satchat
A4 also most tech devices today have built in speech to text and that gives ELL, kids who struggle to get words on screens, and young children the opportunity to dictate their words into blogs - scaffolds literacy in a variety of ways #satchat
Sedentary children bombarded with chaotic sensory stimulation (little play and violent video images) are coming to school with significant developmental delays which affect achieving basic literacy skills necessary for success! @ASCDconf#Satchat#Resilience#Empower18
As someone who has taught writing to college students, I have to tell them the goal is not to "vomit" emotions onto paper. Instead they need to write thoughtful, well-supported prose. They come not knowing the difference.#satchat

I think for the conversations and writing I see is just getting them to be able to accurately describe these thoughts and ideas with their voice. That is very hard. #satchat
A5 use social media as an advantage. Have them share something new, interesting, or exciting in their feed. Steer them towards the direction that social media can be for learning. #satchat

A5 blogging can be one of those ubiquitous tools that can be done for any subject. Start slow to then move fast. Start by studying some mentor blogs and explicitly teaching some of the moves bloggers make just as you would in writers wksp #satchat
#satchat I haven't used a lot of blogging, but I love the idea of letting them blog about current units of study. I realize that we are all here, because we want to have a voice about what is important for us. #Students deserve the same.

Grades are not important to me. Think of it this way, you don't expect anything less that 100% from your mechanic, why would we expect less from our Ss? Teach for learning and not a score. #satchat
A5: When blogging is integrated into a course in a way where Ss document their growth, learning &/or progress it provides them voice & choice while also requiring them to make sense of & reflect on their learning! Much more indicative of learning than multiple guess! #satchat
I think I am going to have my Honors students read Night and was thinking of having them do video blogs/reflections using @Flipgrid throughout the novel to assess understanding and get reactions to events. #satchat

There are lots of examples online of the idea-vomit variety of blogs. It’d be interesting to analyze these with students and discuss why they appeal to writers but don’t help readers. It’s a lesson in writing AND empathy. #satchat

I always chuckle (to myself) when educators say things like, “if I could get rid of social media I would” or “I don’t do social media” because it flies in the face of the importance of being a life-long learner & it’s a major part of the world our Ss live in! #satchat

A6: Sometimes a classroom blog is a good thing. Ss are contributing writers, T is editor and publisher. Shared work, shared ownership. Becomes academic journal and historical record of the year's work #satchat
Sometimes, I think Ts don't understand this themselves. Surprising how many think it's okay as long as it's in the name of "education". It's not! #satchat
The MOST important part of having a successful blog is the audience. Share your kids blogs with other teachers, students, and parents and encourage them to COMMENT! Here’s ours: https://t.co/q5iO4YE6gr (Comment on mine and we’ll comment on yours! 😉) #satchat
It certainly does. I agree it’s sad how some use Social Media for negative purposes. This is where Ss when they encounter the internet’s underbelly, learn to Critical Evaluate & ignore that which is worthless. It’s an opportunity to show Ss the power of the ‘Block Button’ #satchat
