Facilitating the growth of others is essential to sustain a strong School Culture over time.
I wonder how many schools are still banning open use of the Internet.

I've visited many districts over the last five years, and all of them had some kind of restrictions.
I don't have a classroom and our school has 1:1, but I recommend BYOD for students without laptop https://t.co/drBoXKQKhW

Husson: talk about "the economic value" that a good teacher brings to a community
If school is preparing kids for life, shouldn't school reflect real life? That would include open access to the Internet to get info.
If we shift to an acceptance of "BYOD," our conversation must become one of equity and access.
often I see that they're trying to block inapp content or " time wasters". Usually they over do the filter.
Thanks Tom... makes sense to me.
If school is preparing kids for life, shouldn't school reflect real life? That would include open access to the Internet to get info.
At the same time, school has the responsibility to protect its Ss from any harms that may come from that.
Hi Barbara... welcome to we're talking mobile devices in school...
What’s wrong here: Schools have difficulty engaging Ps; Over 90% of Ps have smart phones… just saying
MOBILE LEARNING IS NOT NEW, has been around since the beginning. MOBILE DEVICES ARE A NEW DEVELOPMENT, need to connect both. How?
. It's kind of like regulating a watch! Ss are learning to regulate use. One wouldn't stare at watch during conv.
I can vividly remember using only 3-4 years ago and putting gag order on Ss so we wouldn't get in trouble
100% agree, schools are limiting Ss by not having open access. World knowledge is at our fingertips it should be embraced
. Teach how to judge sources (We include an Internet Research Primer in every program to help!)
Great point! We also do not Ban bike riding or driving. There are rules needed, but not denied access.
I think this discussion parallels the discussion on personal devices. We need to teach how best to manage personal habits
fair point but they shouldn't hide this, they need to be positioning Ss to avoid any harms
is it to cliche to say that all parties SHOULD?
IF BEING CONNECTED MATTERS THEN WHAT must teachers have when their students have mobile devices? Do they now have what they need?
Critical thinking skills are essential in this century.
10,000 student perspectives have now been shared on WorldVuze! Here's to every being heard! https://t.co/yAnFrdtdgp

IN CURRENT SYSTEM OF EDUCATION, mobile devices are an anomaly. For full potential of devices to be realized we need a new system.
Connecting mobile devices to learning involves trusting students. They have to be mature enough to use the device for what it's for
Sorry about being late to . I have a late pass though.
Mobile devices. are twofold problem 1) educ value of devices unestablished, 2) poor infrastructure and support
I agree with this! But I think there needs to be an introductory lesson, you explain expectations of using the phone
Getting the 21st century learners Digitally sensitive and cognizant of MD niceties
To not use devices/electronics in schools today is unfair and not teaching in a way that most students can relate to & learn from
We teach about "Stranger Danger". Education is the best defense for kids on the internet, not banning its use.
not cliche at all... should be the norm but isn't. Most often it's a tech decision not an educ decision.
Exactly, and you need open access both to show what is unacceptable, and for Ss to practice those skills
When people say (through action or words), "We're not ready for that kind of change," I think, "Is there a choice?"
Agreed. No driving at night, stay out of the deep end- we don't ban totally but do limit (til greater access is earned?)
I strive daily to bring more S voice to the table!
If we don't incorporate tools that stretch beyond our walls, what value are we providing?
I'm not for banning its use but I do see the need for some defense on the system. It's a difficult balance.
The tools true potential are underutilized or not shed PROPER light on. PD for Ps
PERHAPS, the problem is not mobile devices… but the system in which we’re trying to use the devices. What do you think?
BEING CONNECTED is now a necessity in most schools. Mobile devices help people connect.
A short term answer often becomes a long term problem... NEED SOME CLEAR THINKING ABOUT MD !!
Yes & there are times when even society requires devices to be turned off, but there should be reasons for that action

Innovative schools and teachers havre moved beyond banning personal devices. Very innovative schools provide them.
As more coursework is moved on-line… mobile devices will become more important. How are you preparing?
Ahem.. a paradigm shift is in order!
If Ts see the power & advantage of mobile devices & influence policy to allow them it will work. Show why it helps Ss
Value is the learning, means are the cost ->
How can we get students to share their work and reflect on their growth instead of doing it for them? https://t.co/Cqi8JZlMCW
Being connected expands learning options. All schools should aim towards 1:1.
I have seen the school of tomorrow. It is here today, in Finland.’ So what is Finland’s secret? https://t.co/Kd5fDLB8Lg
Yes --- shouldn't be this difficult. Why is it?
Decisions are best made intentionally and looking at unintended consequences.
Mobile devices are almost a fact of life, cultivate a culture were students use them for research, quizzes ect
Amazing! https://t.co/U7iruny8qH
Highlight of my day with Year 6:
'And that's it, you're halfway there...'
Entire class
'WOOOAHHHHHH, LIVIN ON A PRAYER' 😂
IMHO we make too many decisions for the convenience of the adults rather than the benefit of the Ss.
Mobile devices are not going away. Their use needs to be included in education's preparation for kids' learning for life.
Have a good evening! 👍🏻 We'll see you again tomorrow 📱
and in the case of mobile devices for the conveniences of the tech teams...
I've got students to make their own youtube type videos on topics then upload them to edmodo for the rest of the class to use

so... need responsibility be turned over? Or shared?
Has anyone tried to do Rube Goldberg projects in middle years?
definitely sharedbut some T are still reluctant to turning over ANY
Depends on the task. Ask "who does this most effect?"

Age old T complain is that we work too hard. Wouldn't devices make your job/life exponentially easier?
I honestly think the wave has passed in most places because mobile devices are ubiquitous. Policy needs to catch up.

Yes BUT saying all without defining specific roles/responsibilities can lead to no one doing it.
. I would agree, but I still meet up with teachers around the country who tell me that their schools still ban the internet.
IMO, , devices can make life easier, but it's harder when Ts have to constantly implement new pgms https://t.co/INhxpIEvnP
Age old T complain is that we work too hard. Wouldn't devices make your job/life exponentially easier?
Yep, sort of like schools of fish banning the use of water I think.
There are many people who have started to implement the use of BYOD programs in schools. They are very advantageous to kids
Ha! what a perfect analogy!
Schools need to give students agency and explicitly teach - they won't learn on their own
that's the reality of a none utopic society. What's frustrating even more is complaints with no suggestions
I agree about the complaints!
