In college I worked in a comic book store. I think about that alot when planning lessons.
Teaching is my second career. Managing a family business gave me unique insight into what skills were lacking in the work force.
Community service activities definitely helped my experience in classrooms around the world-realizing we are more in common than not

It's one thing to find generic curriculum connections from a textbook. It's quite another to have lived them!

I hate to exercise, so that experience helps me understand some of the challenges my kids have--feeling apathy and a lack of will.

Lessons plans are very narrative. they have to appeal to multiple senses. they are often connected to other narratives.

Amen. I figure good things should spring from attention to & intention re: balance - though not necessarily balance, itself.
In 6th grade I filled in a scantron w/ patterns, led to wrong math class placement & an understanding of how "low" kids are treated
