#waledchat
#waledchat Jerry Toups HS math tr from the Houston, TX area. I have been teaching my Ss to #AlwaysBelieve since 1990. 28th year and I still wake up and want to go to work. #BlessedCareer
Katie, 6th grade teacher, IN. I’d love to see anyone from @askdaveeveland ‘s class jump in (or lurk just beyond the spotlight if they’re shy 😉) #waledchat
A1: I finally made an inroad yesterday with a difficult S. We were talking and she mentioned how she loved creating projects using @WeVideo. I asked her to help me design our next assignment. Relationships for the win. #waledchat
A1 My biggest win for the past month was being named a @flipgrid Rockstar and being able to arrange a visit to Flipgrid Headquarters for Flipgrid Live this summer. So honored. #waledchat
A1: I’ll be honest...some days it was just showing up! Q3 is rough. Lousy weather, tired colleagues, snippy parents, stressed out kids. My big win was making it through Q3 with more GOOD days, than not-so-good ones!!! #waledchat
A1: Tessellation project in Geometry. Most of the projects are not quite finished but very impressed with the creativity and artistic ability of these kids! #waledchat
A1: Writing a ton. Always had a dislike of the process and a fear that nobody would want to hear what I had to say. Spent much of break getting thoughts down on paper. Very cathartic and surprisingly enjoyable. #waledchat
A1: I feel like I made a lot of strides with relationships with students this month. There is one student who I have been having a hard time connecting with, but I feel like I have finally developed that relationship with him! #waledchat
A1: Biggest win was last night's #122edchat, even though I can't take credit - it was all the folks from #rowvastrong! Also, forming some really amazing bonds with my students as they begin their last 30+ days before graduation. #waledchat
A1: My biggest win in the past month was getting three conference proposals approved for co-presenting with 3 awesome CCPS techers! Including #TheLengend@MrPStrunk.
#waledchat
A1 The Newton's Law "thing" that I have been planning for weeks seems to be at least mostly a success. I will know for sure when Ss give me feedback and do the assessment on Monday. #waledchat
#waledchat A1 Yesterday, participating in a cultural conversation with a class from Buenos Aires, Argentina 🇦🇷 about gender inequality. Great opportunity for our students to interact and learn from their peers in Argentina.
A1: My biggest win in the past month was getting three conference proposals approved for co-presenting with 3 awesome CCPS techers! Including #TheLegend@MrPStrunk.
#waledchat
A1 Biggest win this month was when I went into @AllysonConrad10 first grade class today and the students remembered me from when I covered their class. They called out my name and rushed me for a big group hug! #waledchat
A1: My biggest win in the past month was getting three conference proposals approved for co-presenting with 3 awesome CCPS teachers! Including #TheLegend@MrPStrunk.
#waledchat
A1 Angela from NC, jumping in! My biggest win was becoming an @edpuzzle Coach and being asked to be a part of an EDpuzzle curriculum development team #waledchat
A1: My biggest win from the last month has been figuring out a new way to collect data. Not very exciting, but it has made reviewing and analyzing all of my data much easier and less time consuming! #waledchat
A1: We’ve had some heavy things going on in the lives of some students. But being a part of the response of staff in our school is amazing and humbling. This stuff goes way beyond any teaching contract but really is the stuff that matters. It’s an honor. #waledchat
A1: Our teachers have been on fire. @jamie_elliott06@Summ_xoxo and @3rdRiverdale put on an amazing Donut Shop production that was phenomenal. Real world experiences that the kids and parents will remember for a long time to come!! #waledchat
A1 I have been on medical leave for the past 6 weeks. So the biggest win before I had surgery was a S was beginning to make strides towards better self-reg. We have a great relationship and the S was beginning to turn a corner #waledchat
#waledchat A1: Today I introduced a concept in Algebra that we weren't going to finish for a week. After some number-based examples, I put the abstract on the board with 10 min left. Ss ATTACKED it. 2 girls stayed 10 min into lunch to finish. This is the "low level" class. BOOM
A1 Happened today: the kid who, all year, hasn’t liked a book, complains, “I just hate reading!”, TODAY I hand him Dear Martin by @getnicced, & he reads so hard that he tugs his hair. He comes up for air, I catch him whispering to his friend, “Dude, this book is LIT!” #waledchat
A1:
Mine isn’ta classroom win, but it’s related. I hosted a successful theatre festival with 16 schools and 250 students in attendance. I was asked to host for 2 more years! #waledchat
A1: Hi-sorry I’m late. Biggest win this month finally getting the student Collaboration Center together and now time to get the kids in there. #waledchat
A1: Big win was the number of students who turned in amazing projects for a recent assignment. It wasn’t about the grade, I could tell how engaged and motivated they were. #eduwin#waledchat
A1 My biggest win this past month was getting a call from a former Ss I taught 5 years ago who is halfway through his first year of college. He is the first to go to college in his family and he is doing very well! Couldn’t be more proud of him! #waledchat
A2 I celebrated by letting my students know that I received the honor because of their hard work and willingness to try new things. I also made travel plans. #waledchat
A1 Definitely travelling to Florida to surprise the kids and teachers I have been collaborating with all year. Epic experience. Amazing surprise. Life changing moment. A must to experience. More to come I am sure. #waledchat
A1: broke down a barrier with a challenging S over Pythagorean theorem! Started with him being removed from class for disruption, but we worked together and now he is achieving more consistently. #waledchat
A2: I saw the student and his mom at Starbucks, I made sure that I told his mom how awesome he has been for me. Loved seeing the smiles from her and him! #waledchat
A2: I love that my colleagues are friends - family, even! There’s something so special abt working w people I admire, respect, & genuinely enjoy! I celebrate wins with them every day by simply talking & laughing! #waledchat
A1 Biggest win this past month was being able to take our 5th grade Ss to Washington, DC! This was a great experience for our Ts, Ss, and Ps! #waledchat
A1: We started our book project for @studentreasures! We are writing a book about sea creatures from A to Z. My students are working so hard! #waledchat
A1: #waledchat Graduates continue to come back & visit. They want to reconnect, seek advice, & need help accessing resources. This speaks to our #alted approach, meet Ss needs, not just academically. A grad from 2 years ago came the week before Spring Break for support.
A2 Making lifelong friends was the celebration for me. Being able to reconnect regularly with Ts and Ss from that school is a celebration. Receiving and sending surprises in the mail, makes me smile. #waledchat
A1. #waledchat 1. Finishing the school budget without really causing too much pain. 2. finding out that 62 of 77 members of my 8th grade band are going to be in the HS band next year.
A2: Haven't celebrated yet, but I think we will come up with something. I hope my belief in the greatness of our Ts is well known, that would be a celebration for me.
#waledchat
A2) I celebrated by feeling humbled, sharing what I learned in the process, and agreeing to do 2 more. Saying Yes more than No changes your life for the better. #waledchat
A2: does almost crying count? Felt like a Steel Magnolias moment. 💜 I celebrate the win every time I see him by nurturing the relationship through positive interaction and rapport. #waledchat
#waledchat A2: High fives for the Ss involved, showing off their work to the next class who came in, saw it on the board and went "WHOA!", and sharing it here!
#waledchat Last month work has begun on the editiding and publishing of my book which is due out this Fall! #DreamComeTrue The Story of Always Believe!
A2: I presented to our staff to get them pumped about using Twitter. However, it is a really busy and stressful time. May have to do some slow prodding with our Ts. #waledchat
A2: Haven’t quite celebrated yet, but will hopefully have more time for some relaxation and hopefully won’t have to take it all home to work on progress notes over the weekend #waledchat
A2. #waledchat Dont know how I will celebrate. Will be taking the 8th grade to a theme park in May to show them that they are appreciated. Im sure there will be more
A1. Watching a Ss make progress succeeding. We all have our strengths and weaknesses, Where the child is hurting with written work, he can verbally express those ideas! #waledchat
A2 We celebrated our trip through reflection. I’m fortunate to work in a district that supported our efforts to take our Ss on an overnight field trip. #waledchat
I would like to see one PD with all the Ts in my school on a chat together or in teems...or something to get the sense o why it is so valuable. #waledchat
#waledchat A2 My wife and I use any "reason" to celebrate by going out to eat at Houston's MANY amazing restaurants! We had steak at Salt Grass. #Blessed
A3: I missed an opportunity to extend learning on a topic. I should have stopped and gone with it. I didn't I wanted to move on and I did. I will go back and revisit this again on Monday. #waledchat. (kind of counts as A4 as well.)
A2:
Celebrated my nephew’s 21st bday w mojitos. The next day I sent out an email thanking the coaches with a survey for honest feedback attached. Shared success at a faculty meeting. #waledchat
A3: There was a differentiation menu I did that a lot of students had a lot fun with. However, there were some tasks on it that just were not as fun and engaging as I hoped. #waledchat
A3: I have one class that I still have yet to figure out. Some days an activity will work perfectly and other days, the same type of activity is a disaster. I am sure it is due to external factors but still frustrating #waledchat
A3: A busy schedule this week has cost me time with our kids. I was complaining about that last night to my wife. I feel bad for missing the opportunity to hang out with my son to build Legos or play board games with our girls. #waledchat
A3: One loss that I continually experience is the lack of support I sometimes I feel that I give to my colleagues. I need to be better at building others up and telling them how proud and encouraged I am by what they're doing. #waledchat
A3: Dropping the ball on something (someONE, actually!). I was juggling WAY too much, thought I had it & simply missed it. I felt so badly about it. #waledchat
A2: #waledchat When we have positive interactions it only fuels my passion and drive to be of service to every student & family. It motivates me to help eliminate the pervasive misnomer surrounding continuation high schools. #alted
A2: my celebration came naturally. There’s an extra skip in my step at school; I’m happier. I feel valued and heard here and don’t feel so alone in my piracy project based, making every kid matter mentality. It was a rough fall for me and Twitter was my answer. #waledchat
A3: I’m not satisfied with the way I assessed a geometry unit. I’m excited about the statistics unit kickoff, but there are loose geometry ends I still need to figure out. #waledchat
A3: we lost 3 days of our Spring Break due to snow days! Haha in all serious though, I spent a lot of time creating a lesson on ambiguous case and the kids did NOT get it. Back to the drawing board I went! #waledchat
Sorry for not joining in. I have papers to grade and am trying to work on my EdTPA. I applied for two positions yesterday, so I am excited to see what my future holds. #waledchat
A3 I have been out, but families have reached out to me through @Seesaw with their concerns. Some of the community that we worked hard to build has fallen apart. I will have to start fresh when I get back (I can’t wait to be cleared to return) #waledchat
A3 Losing the balance in my work/life. Falling ill has literally thrown me off my usual schedule. Finding the right support to keep going has not been easy, so it has been a very reflective time. Sometimes we have to dig deep to find our inner essence and recharge. #waledchat
A3: a loss - I feel like I'm rushing students through a choice board of projects on the War of 1812 - I hate doing this, but I'm doing this because I'm trying new things and I'm far behind with 8 weeks of school left. #waledchat
A3: A loss from this past month has definitely been my level of motivation. It was a tough month, where I didn’t necessarily feel at my best. It bummed me out that I didn’t feel as excited as I had a little earlier in the year. #waledchat
A3: I tried out a scripted curr. and ss revolted. Lost my motivation for the actual teaching part. But I found a happy medium recently and it’s been working!!! #waledchat
A1: my win this month was working with a student on how to safely simulate a bathtub full of blood for a psychological thriller she's shooting for class. So much fun! #waledchat
A3: My MS @VEXRobotics team making it all the way to the state competition, only to break down under the stress once getting there. They don't see how hard they've worked as Middle schoolers competing against HSers. #waledchat
#waledchat My cousin will become my 1st relative that I played with as a kid to pass away. He is home now under hospice care. Won't make it too much longer. LOTS OF REFLECTION! In the end we are just memories. CREATE THE MAGICAL MEMORIES THAT CREATE A LEGACY! #StartNow
I had to tell a student that there was@no way that she could pass my class. It was her first online class and she could not keep up. I felt bad because I don’t like it when my students fail. #waledchat
#waledchat A3: Just had a S drop AP Stats. A junior. Has been overwhelmed since the beginning. No matter the circumstances or reasoning, he was in my class and wasn't feeling successful. Mirror time: What did I miss?
A3: Loss of time and interruption of energy due to the standardized testing. Our admins do a terrific job trying to minimize the impact on our Ss, but the inevitable restlessness and ennui is a trial in itself #waledchat
A3:
I allowed my frustration to break through and snapped at 2 students (different classes) that probably derailed our relationships. It’s understandable that I did based on context, but that lack of control/professionalism really bites. #waledchat
A3 Things have been very stressful for the past few weeks, and I stopped making good choices in meals. and snacks I need to get back on track, but not till I am mentally ready. #waledchat
A3: A loss - a S moved away. I have also been having issues with my computer and a program I use for IEP's which makes doing my job a bit harder. #waledchat
Couldn’t agree more! So thankful for my colleagues that have become close friends, and family. It makes coming into work that much better, and makes it a fantastic place to be! #waledchat
A4: I have started to ask my students about ideas that THEY have to express their knowledge. I plan on incorporating them into future tasks! #waledchat
A4: It has forced me to re-think how I teach. One size certainly does not fit all so I am continuing to search for new ways to deliver and assess content. It has also forced me to make sure that content is tightly aligned to the standards. #waledchat
A4: I need to be intentional about spending time with my kids while they are still kids. This weekend our oldest and I are going to a @Chicago_Wolves game. Our youngest daughter is playing in a soccer tournament this weekend. Plenty of time to have 1:1 time ahead. #waledchat
A3 I’m not proud of his, but this past month I lost my patience with folks outside the edspace trying to impose their opinions on the edspace without seeking to understand its unique complexities #waledchat
I taught a scripted curriculum a couple years and found ways to bring ME into it and wound up loving it. Hope you continue to have that opportunity too. #waledchat
A3. My loss was being sick and missing a lot of events because of it and the weather. I really do hate missing class. I REALLY hate missing out on my PLN's. I need you guys for my growth. #selfish#waledchat
A4: Spring break helped greatly to right the scales with the entire break was spent with family with work barely making an appearance. It was rejuvenating and reading for pleasure was great as well.
#waledchat
A4: I have started to work on educating others on MRSA and the possible signs of infection in the hopes they don't have to go through what I did. #waledchat
A4 Having to take a closer look at the budget as a team gave us the opportunity to really think about our needs and more importantly the needs of our students. I think we are in a good place. Fingers crossed. #waledchat
A3: Time, always time. My fiance lost two family members this year and it was a reminder of how precious time is. I need to make more time available for all the people I love. My Ss and my family and friends. #waledchat
A4 I just have to get to April Break right now. We are all tired right now, and I can see the kiddos losing it. Still have more than 2 weeks to go, and ELA testing is next week. #waledchat
A3 Routines aren't being followed & Ss are falling back to old habits: asking me for help rather than trying to find As on own, not using hand signals, etc. I'm part of problem, too bc I'm enabling them to do that but don't want to put up stink when we're close to end #waledchat
A3. Planned 2 experiments today before soring break, the Ss wanted to make slime again, so we made magnetic slime. We didn't have time for the second project. But, it will give them something to look forward to when they come back! #waledchat
A4: This lack of satisfaction in any lackluster teaching on my part drives me to be better and better. I don’t know what the win from this will be yet, but I know I’ll keep working on it! #waledchat
A4: I'm trying to think of ways to cover important material - I need to figure out what is important, what's not important and go from there. I was thinking about asking the Ss what topics they want to explore the rest of the school year. #waledchat
A4: I’m definitely feeling more refreshed after break, but am working every day to and doing new things to find the excitement that I was feeling at the beginning of the year. #waledchat
#waledchat A4: It's a reminder to me that no matter how far I feel like I've come in the "relationships" part of teaching, I may never perfect and always need to be vigilant and receptive/responsive.
A4: I've already devoted time to chatting with co workers and researching how to better assess PBL projects. Not there yet, but I'm on the path! #waledchat
I am right there with you! I feel so behind, but I also want my students to have authentic opportunities to learn over a sit-and-get only environment. #waledchat
A4 I spent this week, Spring Break, self-reflecting. I can't say it won't happen again, because I'm a work in progress, but I am working on it. #WaledChat
A4: Own my part in it! Acknowledge what went wrong & commit to making it right. None of us is perfect. I have to practice what I preach! Failing forward & moving upward & onward. #waledchat
A2: I just sat back and reflected on what we did. I think my students thought I was crazy when I told them what we were going to do at the end of January. To see them pull it off was the reward. #waledchat
A1: Buggest win from this month is having a Donors Choose project for Lego WeDo 2.0 robot kits funded by Ripple! They arrived yesterday and are already being used by kids in multiple classes- they LOVE them! #waledchat
Q4: I will 1-2 days after school a week just for me. I know this is what is best for me and my students. It is such a small goal- but it is a hard one! #waledchat
A3/4. It took me way too long to grade and return their last writing assignment. But in the process I discovered some shortcuts that I can use next time to provide comments. #waledchat
#waledchat A4: I will turn it into a win by having a yet another bag of Saltines and another bottle of Guinness. Same as A3. JK, JK, JK....hold the tomatoes!
A4: National Poetry Month Madness head to head brackets (provided by our outstanding dept key ldr,@CRushLevine ) judicious use of read-aloud, debate prep, and Dr. Who #waledchat
A5: I am running 6 miles tomorrow and will run 3-4 on Sunday. Switching it up with snow in the forecast. Wine or Beer will also make an appearance as well. #waledchat.
A4 I have been taking a lot of PD while I have been out. Reading and working on my level 1 Google Cert. I also have been reevaluating what routines we will keep when I get back. My Ss are so young, and they have missed so much. I have to assess where they are now #waledchat
Hello #waledchat 😁I am Heather, from upstate NY. I’m a pk-12 vocal and instrumental teacher (&pe too🤪), an EdD student, & I think @OldsJen & @hmccutcheon9 should join us!
Intros: Welcome to #waledchat! Introduce yourself, where you are from, your role in education, and tag someone who you'd like to see join you here tonight! #waledchat
A4 Education does take a village and we do need everyone in society to have a stake in it. I need to work to help inform folks and direct them to resources to be more literate on education issues #waledchat
We are all human and have our moments. Acknowledging your response and changing to restore the relationship is key. The S will forgive you, be kind to yourself and forgive yourself also. #waledchat
I am struggling with this, too, because we have limited time left before the end of grade tests, and only a few weeks before we have to turn in all computer carts for testing, too. I typically have a very flipped and blended classroom. #waledchat
Q4: I'll keep telling the team to look how far they came. Comparing themselves to HS teams is comparing apples and oranges. We will continue to learn and get better every competition! #waledchat#omgrobots
A4- Every lose is an opportunity to grow, to learn, to improve. We are all so flawed and make mistakes but if we can strive to be a little bit better a little bit kinder, a little bit more empathetic each day we are moving in the right direction. #waledchat
A5: End of the @NHL regular season. @MLB ballgames on all the time now. Plenty of time to watch games after the kids are in bed. Sorry @katie_abramczyk. #waledchat
A5: Looking forward to some quality time with my husband and son. Being on vacation last week together was nice, but felt rushed & stressful. Need a nice, easy couple days to relax. #waledchat
A4 I have taken the time to reflect a lot, to recenter myself, to refocus on priorities. I have to say, my continuous work and amazing energy from my virtual students in Florida always help me set my path straight. Sometimes have to go with gut, not always easy. #waledchat
A5: This weekend is a busy one but with luck, snow could miss us enabling a hike or a motorcycle ride. Either way time with family on Sat. to go to a Capitals game!
#waledchat
A2: I celebrated my win by enjoying my students! Kinder teacher came to my room after school today with 2 of her ss to show me the robot they had built this afternoon. Their smiles made my day! #waledchat
A5: Setting up my new @BEHRINGER Q802USB mixer and testing out my mix minus setup for podcast recordings and watching everything #WrestleMania starting Friday night. #waledchat
A5 There won’t be any resting this weekend. Confirmation for my son, preparations for our annual International Festival, and planning for my Spring break trip. Relaxing will happen the following week. #waledchat
A4 I think I need to bite the bullet & spend a few mins reviewing routines. Since I'll have most of these Ss these routines will still be applicable for the rest of this yr & next yr. #waledchat
A6 Read, walk on the beach, shopping, meditating, baking with my daughter, hiking. It's been a good week. Holding onto these final days of the break. #WaledChat
#waledchat After coaching pole vault at a track meet, coaching my sons 12u baseball, and practicing martial arts with my other son.....I'll go to dinner to celebrate my daughter's 16th birthday. Then prepare for next week. OH, did you say "rest and relax?" HA!!! That's funny.
A5- Spend time with my kids...celebrate Easter a week late with fam...go to dinner and a show with my boss and colleagues and hopefully have time for some reading! #waledchat
A5: Going to be logging some miles for a 10k I have coming up, and experimenting with some new recipes for lunch and dinner. Might have to bake something fun too! #waledchat
A5 Hmmm that is interesting. I have a hard time just relaxing. Sitting on the couch with my wife and watching some tv is a great way to just relax. Twitter chats relax. Reading. Having conversations with friends. Key is to take care of the heart. #waledchat
A5) My wife and I are Appraisers for Destination Imagination. California is hosting their State Finals. If you are not involved in this Enrichment, thinking outside the box program, look into it. #waledchat
A3: Loss from this month- spending weeks preparing for PARCC testing. Our first year doing it on chromebooks so it has been a real drain on my time. Time that I could have been using to plan awesome projects for my ss! 😩 #waledchat
A2: I’ve also been researching my family again on @Ancestry and have found and connected many missing links on both sides of my family. I spent time with my son and dad bowling today. Love seeing those two spend time together 💕 #waledchat
A5. Rest? Relax? Whats that? I am so behind on getting ready for baby #4. I guess I can try to put my feet up while I work on long term sub plans. #waledchat
Q5: #waledchat Another area I need to refine. This is my spring break & I am coming to the realization I need to find more activities I enjoy outside of education. I’m just so passionate I focus most of my energy on Ss & work. Taking note now to recommit myself to this endeavor.
