Using tonight, so drop in resources. We can send them out
a1: HW that is meaningful and needed for Ss.
Each questions has one of those unique teenager response.
A1: Upper elementary. Not before 3rd grade.
A1: I think kids need to be kids a little longer. No homework in elementary schools.
at any age, the type of work that is hands-on and real-world is appropriate for outside of school.
A1: Type: interactive activities or experiments that can be done at home. Reading. Work not finished in class
Please use the Q1, A1 format, thanks
a1: As far as age, it depends on what the child needs. HW can be given at any age, just should be purposeful and meaningful
Yes. I believe Ss should be reading every night, but they need time to experience the world as well.
I love my Edumatch people
Any work that reinforces meaningful connections between home and school is appropriate. Real-world application is necessary.
Q1: HW should be all about real world application...take your child with you to Publix and have them measure, calculate, wtc
A1: Any relevant, connective outside work is appropriate at all ages
Q1: Relevant homework activities that require students to explore real-life examples
A1: I'm starting to think not at all beyond reading & long term projects. My 4ye-old has hw...so stressful 4 everyone involved
Racquel Plummer 2nd Grade CPES
Q1. Interactive, real-world work that allows the possibility of connections
if you're teaching fractions, kids should go home and cook. If the moon, tell them to look at the night sky.
A1: All HW should be forms of practice. Graded HW shouldn't start til grade 3 or 4
A1: Any work that reinforces meaningful connections b/t home and school is appropriate. Real-world application is necessary.
Q2 is coming soon, but will slow down the questions. You all are doing great!!!
No age is too young if the work is purposeful and engaging; however, students should not be penalized for the lack of it
I agree to an extent. Sometimes, I feel it shouldn't because it depends on what I am trying to see wh… https://t.co/c6ct5rWNua
A1: Type: interactive activities or experiments that can be done at home. Reading. Work not finished in class
Alexandria from Liberty Point ES! I'm at Rev in spirit. It's no turning around after you crossover I-20.
A 1. I'm thinking at the secondary level especially in mathematics who will assist students with the work outside of school.
A1: Quality over quantity!
exactly. It's all supposed to preparer them for the real world right?
I have a student doing his research in getting rid of hw...he's very convincing!
A2: If you use resources like to expand the walls of the classroom are kids really going it alone? ?
Do we change the word: homework to something relevant?
A1: I believe that it all depends on the students. Homework should be interactive and engaging. It's great practice.
A2: HW should be something Ss can do themselves, parents shouldn't be needed to complete. Teach Ss responsibility & ownership.
I am for hw being skill based as long as it is not over kill and it is something the students needs! Also provide support!
A2: Be there to support the student by giving feedback on their work. So many of our Ss are going at it alone.
A2: We find ways to support them in school in order to ensure that motivation doesn't go for naught
A2: Kids have access to everything they need digitally to complete anything I give them- it's always started in class.
I love working with my kids. I get to hear how they learn
A2: Students should be taught the habits of mind to ensure that they develop the habits of a life long learner
A2 this is where technology can be a blessing: assign HW partners to support each other...
A2: Leverage to engage in flipped classroom models
That idea of no hw...naw. We cant toss the baby out w the bathwater. Lifelong learning means u learn everywhere
A2 cont...even kindergarteners nowadays know how to skype and video chat!
My son says he doesn't like homework partners. He doesn't trust them.
Q2. Provide engaging, fun tasks that aligns w/curriculum, they can incorporate prior knowledge & have success
A2: That's a big struggle in many demographics...If we make it something we've already taught, they can be successful
Q3 in 4 minutes. Keep the wisdom coming!
Utilize pre-recorded lessons with apps explain everything and YouTube as supports. Q2.
Anyone doing anything creative in their classrooms with HW???
My son commented on the Rev crowd sitting together but not talking to each other.
I'm anti-HW, but I can get down with opportunities for practice
I have a 2nd grader. I don't want her learning responsibility through homework packets. More effective ways.
agree; however, the culture has 2 b built &that is a culture that is hard to establish in some places.… https://t.co/7otT22bxr1
Depends on hw... 2much or no relevance kills the intrinsic desire 2learn. If you foster that-kids make up their own… https://t.co/vWEk7XGzLM
I'm trying... letting kids decide what they need/want. I assign "going outside" to read, journal, etc.
I don't agree for younger kids. Their brains need a break. Some skills their Ps can't help them with either.
Q3: How are you making sure students have access to resources?
Sorry, ! I got a phone call I needed to take! I'm back! :)
I had a hiccup without you!
I would argue that it isn't a school's right to enforce responsibility in the home.
Do we get into overkill with pre-recorded lessons?
A3: Sometimes you gotta land air &sea access to your resources or in this case paper, internet, and picture
A3: Hyperlinks galore! I also have my room available before 7:40a..literal open door policy 😛
A3: Tech makes it easier to provide resources for Ss. OneNote is perfect for compiling online resources in one place.
the only reason I feel like things have to start b4 3rd grade is because 3rd Ts play catch up far too often
A3: You can drop all the resources in class notebook with differentiated activities 🙌
Q3: ... By providing multiple ways to get the job done. I may even provides the resources myself.
A3 Provide them with a variety of ways to a access content via tech, school media center, connect parent with parent liaison.
if HW is engaging... the school would not need to force students to complete hw. vanguard
Yeah, you can! :) https://t.co/KYonORIDP5
A3: You can drop all the resources in class notebook with differentiated activities 🙌
Great point! If it's meaningful, then kids will want to do it.
WEEBLY! Communicate with students and parents with a blog. You can post everything there.
My son likes the Q1, A1 format. Thanks!
A4: Ss should be given choices to show their skills. Helps with both Q3 & Q4
A4: Google (blank) interactives for a quick relevant, rigorous technological experience
but you set norms for some Ss and contribute to neg feelings about school/HW when Ss are just starting school
I believe you have to provide students with a range of resources.
A4: Find something going on in the world or an article and tie that to PBL or Investigation
Can we talk for a minute about how has included references for her images? Love her for that!
A3:I love the public library system! It gives access to tons of resources. Let's have a PTA night at the library nearest us!
A4: Simply remember how bored we were, and do the opposite😀Watch what they watch and connect it
A4 this happens naturally when you assign real-world experiences.
There's no control over that situation. Even if we gave online tutor info some would not do it.
find out what students are interested in and how they learn. Sidenote Microsoft Forms is a great tool… https://t.co/2C6ebbzIOi
Real world problems to solve make learning more fun. Keep it authentic.
I have an open "need" policy... if you need something printed, I got you.
A4: Quit sending mundane worksheet packets home every week. That would be a great start.
Q3.Parent/partner donate technology, teacher created games, grant funded items, household items students can use
A4: Make activities practical with a reference to real-world experiences. Use the mystery curriculum.
True. This is where I feel u have to understand the child as well as the Ps. We get Ps constantly wanting WS
I totally agree! I think that it tends to be mostly busy work, and that needs to stop
My son loves your responses!
Homework can provide students with time to independently practice and think. The real question is the why before assigning it.
that is a convo that should be had w their School and T. Again that why personalization is important https://t.co/MtFum2Bac3

A5: Try searching yourself. If you can find the answer easily, change the question.
Q4. Answer Get students involved in Twitter chats like what we are doing right now!
A5: Stop starting questions with Who what or where.
hope I don't seem really hated for this statement but every assignment is not going to interest Ss.
- Oh my gosh, YES! Those instantly stop the growth with questioning!
My son said that sounds like Jeopardy!
our work at every moment doesn't always interests us but sometimes we have to do what we are suppose to
A4: You strive to meet learners' needs in your classroom, you can do it for hw. Choice boards for varying learning styles!
A5 by now it should be clear I'm a PBL coach...assign real life probs that you have 2 have experience 2 solve.
Q5: Create questions based on the questions asked in class/other classes. This helps students clear up misconceptions.
A5: Mk assignments centered around problem solving and decision making. and ready to vanguard! https://t.co/ih3rjR1pnP
That's really, not everything interest adults.
Q5: Ask questions that lead Ss toward asking more questions. Inquiry.
but if the P doesn't know anything but worksheets that's a problem too. Status quo thinking, like we always do 😕
A5 Don't ask questions they already know the answer to - need assignments that provoke thought, not rote answers.
A5: Use an inquiry-based model..using password-protect feature on Ss retrieve the answer after showing their work
I mean their future evenings if hw doesn't get a facelift-My current 8th grade Ss:exhausted w/activiti… https://t.co/mNn5zMBbE0

I have a question coming up for this.
Q5: Resource rings and binders can be used!
Maybe a Literacy Night 2.0 at the library... Inside and outside the facility.
Use HOW and WHY always! That'll teach em! https://t.co/ZhHvjwSRUV
A5: Stop starting questions with Who what or where.
A5: Give students the answer & have them come up with the question that could generate that answer. Make them think differently
Hey, my son says his teacher do this!
A5: Assignments should involve problem solving, critical thinking and even collaboration skills. Even basic tech skills too
Find current events that students can problem solve and brainstorm solutions to.
Some say there is no time for tech skils.
Hmmm...that's a great question. What type of search are you referring to?
https://t.co/gOiUdc4cJ2
A5: moving parts. Even if the first ? is answerable by a search the follow up should stir students' mind.."Knowing this...how could you..."
My favorite nonGooglable HW question: What did you do last night? I take that answer and build my curriculum around IT.
And also want to keep working on at home- whether officially assigned as hw or not. https://t.co/1q3PPXaujp
A5 by now it should be clear I'm a PBL coach...assign real life probs that you have 2 have experience 2 solve.
One I can't find the answer to online when my child get stuck.
Q4. Collaborative, open ended, tasks that build & connects, exploration & explanations, dialogue & modeling
A.4
Quantity vs quality is a big issue with homework. Large amounts of homework given doesn't necessarily make it meaningful.
Let's do it! We can coordinate with the librarians
if there is time for completing a 10pg packet then there is time to show Ss how to log into Wi-Fi successfully
Q5: Create assignments where students have to inquire and ask questions .
Dj providing the soundtrack with the mad Mp3 skills
I used to do this with math alllllllllll the time. So. Much. Fun. https://t.co/mMrVR2Ftm6
A5: Give students the answer & have them come up with the question that could generate that answer. Make them think differently
A6: Make the assignment engaging and you don't have to worry about helping students focus.
A6: I can hardly stay focused sooooo...😉
Q6 My son wants specifics on how to make engaging. Can we take up this challenge??
A6: Give them something to do that relates to what they care about.
figure out what students love to learn about and incorporate that into everything.
Great conversation happening at Rev Up in College Park about HW and big takeaways including the resources!
A6: I would always ask myself If my principal asked me to do this assignment after I taught a full day, would I call out sick?
A6: Get Ss feedback on assignment creation. Attempt to personalize and make it authentic. Provide completion options
Post links to resources!!!
A6 Make the assignment relevant. No adult or child stays focused on ANYTHING that is not engaging or relevant to us.
Thanks for our meet up Happy Friday Eve all!
absolutely. Interest over fun! Fun is fleeting.
A6: Give prizes for the student that comes up with the most unique answer to the question. Starts a lot of conversations.
Create assignments that are relatively engaging and assignments that raises curiosity.
This was so much fun tonight!
A6Provide interim feedback&co-plan next steps. Ss level of focus is matched by our interest in them and the work they're doing.
Look for the transcript at the end of this chat auto generated by
A6. I agree. I think authentic audience makes the biggest impact!
Is the picture in Q7 relevant? Are we working towards laborers or inventors?
- In school, I was an AMAZING memorizer. And then it was gone. Wish I would've been trained to think instead.

Your comments and support are appreciated!!
A7: Making makes this possible. Trial & error, perseverance
Sometimes wonder where I'd be today if I had the experiences my kids have, rather than being praised for compliance.
- I think about that ALL the time. I always wonder what kind of difference it might've made!
Wow, thanks for the transparency. https://t.co/gmDajyrbBD
Sometimes wonder where I'd be today if I had the experiences my kids have, rather than being praised for compliance.
Q8: What is the balance? We as life-learners are spending time right now
working/growing, shouldn't we challenge students in that manner?
A8: That's a tough questions. I think the answer is different for each learner. You need to know your audience.
I know this was for your staff but thanks for your support!!
YES! All of participating now is a life-learner! I love this team! https://t.co/5CaWV30Wqf
Q8: What is the balance? We as life-learners are spending time right now
A8 We have to let students set their own goals - own the process of their own learning; just as we are right now.
- And teach them how to do that! That's why teachers are still so valuable to the process!
