Now : How do a majority of your colleagues stay relevant in their profession as educators? Who is responsible for making that happen?
I'm looking forward to it also
How are we defining "relevant"?
Join : How do a majority of your colleague stay relevant in their profession as educators? Who is responsible for making that happen?
Faculty Formation Director does a great job offering PD opportunities along with select programs throughout the school.
Just signed up for Very excited!
Louisiana Lawmaker Says Kids Shouldn’t Recite Declaration Of Independence Because It’s Racist https://t.co/XNBnMXeiAJ
I'd say the vast majority of teachers don't stay current (in ind. schools). Would people disagree or agree with that statement?
Staying relevant in Edu has become a personal responsibility for educators. Many districts lack relevance & can't provide proper PD
What is current? Such a wide range of topics, classroom management, technology, etc.
Ha, not so sure many of us have ever been 'current'
Is social media a problem in Marin? Students survey and record their time for our final of the year. https://t.co/swHP8YgMA9
I agree, relevant is a personal responsibility!
I would say the responsibility rests in two places: First - It rests with me a as a professional. Second - it rests with districts
Helped by admin but educators responsibility
I think some teachers can get comfortable in their ways and do not want to change and incorporate new tech.
As educators, engaging families is key to creating community. Learn how you can engage your community: https://t.co/KAisahX33K
It rests with districts and admin whose primary purpose is to improve the quality of teaching in the schools they lead
Want to stay relevant as a teacher? Then learn to adapt…
Being self-motivated is true for many.
If Ss don't see a reason to know your content, many won't retain it.Go the extra mile to show your content's life-connections.
. Too many districts lack relevance. They are becoming more dependent on their staff to independently keep up.
NOW IN PROGRESS : How do your colleagues stay relevant in their profession as educators? Who is responsible for making that happen?
I would agree. Learning new things is hard. That's where admin needs to make the time to make it easier
I'm reading The Teacher Wars by Donna Goldstein, which suggests 'current' isn't all that current.
£250 paid for school staff to answer 2 simple questions
Each has a personal responsibility to stay relevant. All of us a shared responsibility to keep profession relevant
Topic: How do a majority of colleagues stay relevant in their profession as educators? Who's responsible for making that happen?
It's like that book "Who Moved My Cheese" Don't be a Hem or Haw, be a Sniff or Scurry
Every level of the system has a responsibility to remain relevant...
RELEVANT TEACHERS empower students by using cultural referents to impart knowledge, skills, and attitudes
How ironic is this? For a teacher who advocates that students be life long learners to not be relevant.

Admin and districts should agree on time but it's not enough
Edcamps would certainly assist PD in our schools.
A supportive admin, a flexible teacher, and a culture of professionalism is a good foundation.
A TEACHER who is relevant has what it takes to empower students intellectually, socially, emotionally, politically, and so on…
good read? is current synonymous with relevant?
Supurb point! Be the change you want to see in your students!
GREAT POINT! Teachers should be life long learners as well
Observe a monkey selfie session & no music video on campus. Hmm. Will be an interesting TV Commercial https://t.co/uarJfw7af3
What do you mean by staying relevant?
Ts need to be responsible for their relevance in education. It's about their passions and developing it in their own way
Teaching high schoolers how to communicate in the workplace using is key to vocational success. https://t.co/1qV3Bht2YO
well... to put a fine point on it, the only things we ever learn are new things...

Can't individual Ts move more nimbly towards relevance than comparatively vast district systems?
THE BEST WAY FOR A TEACHER TO STAY RELEVANT is to be a student.
Great question! I would say yes - but then you have a bunch of teacher islands instead of a school.
The system has some responsibility in that they drive cutting edge education for learners
What is the most important factor of being "relevant" or "current"?
Each member of our group spends a day each week with a school tching & watching others - different school each week in a round robin
1 way they might be synonymouys: both like beauty, in eye of beholder? (I like yr use of adaptability.)
the real question is - how does one do that? I can learn new things in a variety of ways but how do I make them rel.
But the reality is, a system can only support a T in being relevant if the T wants to be relevant
In part, it is the individual teacher's professional responsibility and one must be aware globally.
I'd day the drive to do so! Teachers need to WANT to stay current in order to take the steps to do so
Turnkey things you learn to your fellow teachers
That's what I was thinking as I typed msg. School & district leaders' roles to coalesce islands into larger land mass?
The key is to remain teachable. That means embracing changes in technology and pedagogy.
Agreed, but is it the use of tech. in the classroom, is it the connection with the students?

Want to stay relevant? Then 1) keep everything upgraded, 2) exercise body/mind, 3) spend time with Ss, 4) ask questions… what else?
Lifetime Learning should be the attitude of all in schools, including teachers. It's up to them personally
A retired general was tapped for leadership at Northwestern, but opponents derailed the appointment https://t.co/5dLnc2xXNm
. Up to date, current, modern, Well versed in a timely application.
Nail on the head. Sometimes a push is necessary from the administration.
We see it a little like group therapy -lol
Stay relevant: Read! Read! Read! Content specific and pedagogy. Then do it!

Indeed. Today's learners hv to be ready for the world stage. Hw prepared are we to make them ready for that? https://t.co/ZqaAPcSaan

I like your idea Mark of keeping everything upgraded...body..mind, not just Technology
. Yes they have that ability but that takes a commitment on the part of the educator. A need may not be an incentive.
There is definitely a collegial piece that seems to be disappearing from schools. We have to engage/share knowledge.
We live in the "distraction century." It doesn't mean / at all in most cases - it's simply the current reality.
But school leadership needs to enable it & some structure would help leaders assess progress
For some learners, reading digitally can be more engaging and fun thus more comprehension
Teachers need to study, visit, interact with the community, people, and spaces their students engage.
Teacher learning can be need based from admin?
What is the best way for the admin. to ensure educators stay relevant/ current?
Hey teachers - what items are on your Individualized Education Plan? Do they help you stay relevant? How?
Can need itself form powerfully intrinsic incentive? I wonder: What conditions made that happen for me? 1/2

Can you be relevant as a person if your teaching is irrelevant? I don’t think so… do you?
Are you suggesting schools/districts have roles to play in creating extrinsic incentives to jump-start T commitment? 2/2
Structure core development & support individual interests - focus on achieving an ambitious vision
It's Good Evening from us! 👍🏻
. For some the need is enough incentive. Others: Money, sense of professionalism, Dist requirement.
Absolutely. The need to know who their learners are at the core. https://t.co/iRZXiARkXp

This happened in our district We had to cut some non-tenured teachers. It's a shame!
I would add encouragement to your list as well.
Sounds like laying groundwork for potentially virtuous cycle.
Districts cannot say that they support new ideas if they put roadblocks up when teachers try to direct their professional learning.

OK I agree but as an ex leader of a 100+ school district sometime decisions had to be made that looked like roadblocks
Must districts then submit to entropy in prof learning?Alternatives to roadblocks to shape process? https://t.co/QZtNBgX4hD
Districts cannot say that they support new ideas if they put roadblocks up when teachers try to direct their professional learning.
I like the look of this classroom design!
Just joining in on - what a great topic. Staying curious is key. Reading, listening to podcasts, trying something a new way.
If a teacher wants to learn a new technique, how would a district impede that?
Fascinating chat but I have 2 leave to do s tutorial - thanks everyone - enjoyed it & hope u didn't mind a Limey popping in :-)

I really love this setup!
Twitter helps me stay current...we each are responsible by our dialogue, retweets, and posts https://t.co/LygMQwguid
Topic:How do a majority of our colleagues stay relevant in their profession as educators? Who is responsible for making that happen?
Technology drives relevant educators.
Teach. are responsible for doing it themselves but admin and districts should provide opportunities as well
I think majority of Ts rely on conferences or school provided PD.. Or common planning with colleagues
Districts can enhance with curriculum ops but educators must also
You are so right Jessica. Not many teachers I know use Twitter though Great chance for prof dev
What skills do we want students to take away from our classes?
Relevancy is tied to accountability. If districts are held accountable by community, schools will respond - including Ts.
