Run by Des Moines Public School Instructional Technology Coordinators and moderated by them and educators from the district every Tuesday from 8-9pm CST during the school year. A2 This is my 1st chat. I am participating to gain the experience and learn.
A2. I love learning more and more!!! I hear so many perspectives and ideas on chats! Best part of chat: LEARNING
A2: Personally, I really enjoy hearing all the diff, innovative things ppl are doing in their classrooms!
Tweet deck is cool.... except for the ease of adding GIFs.
A2: I do chats for the connections to great educators It's the gift that never ends when it comes to new ideas in the classroom.
A2 I do chats to connect with teachers and learn from them, it's the fast way to see what Ts are doing! Plus, the gifs are great
A2: I love the collaboration & getting to see how others impact teaching & learning! I also get to share what I do in my class!
A2: quoting on this one ... 'innovation happen in isolation' & isolation is a choice
A2: I like chats/?'s that are relevant to me.
I like bldg a PLN and having some laughs.
A2 B I would tell them to do the "lurk" during one of the chats, see if they have an insertion point, s… https://t.co/BhmL2AljjF
just lurk and join when you think you have great stuff to add...use the and you are golden!
This is so spot on https://t.co/eacAXNmXbe
A2: I do chats for the connections to great educators It's the gift that never ends when it comes to new ideas in the classroom.
Q3: What do you find is most helpful in growing as a professional in Twitter chats?
my age is showing. Or in out of touch. "Lurk"? 😟
A2: quoting on this one ... 'innovation doesn't happen in isolation' & isolation is a choice
A2b: it's also a nice little recharge. It's always nice to know that the district is moving forward...
Where's the questions for the chat?! I'm missing Q2!
It's hard to not chime in sometimes!!!
started Twitter as sports guy 2 was a way 2 keep me in house during Cubs postseason 08, tonight is making me crazy!
A3 chats pushes me out of my comfort zone with tech, just like I push kids out of their math comfort zone
A3: the variety of experiences that everyone brings in invaluable
A3 all. The. Ideas! And encouragement like "oh hey, I must be doing something right" when you agree with others
sorry means just kinda step back and watch the twitter stream happen! I am loving you are trying something new!
A3: Providing meaningful feedback/comments and also encouraging others and being inspired by comments/feedback that I'm given!
I am posting them https://t.co/WXEFbogeyA
Q2. Why do you do chats or what ?’s do you like about them? What would you tell someone to convince them to be part of a chat?
A3: its good to see new ideas, and get confirmation on what we are doing.
Q3: I love gettin' them resources!!!😉 I also like to hear how the practice of ELL varies across the county
A3: The genuine support from others and the non-judgmental setting that allows for growth!
A3:everything..new ideas, new friends, refreshed to know many great things are happening when I'm just trying to stay at the top
A3: If the smartest person in the room is the room, then with Twitter we have one giant, world-sized room. How smart is that?
- you need to get in on these chats
Q4: What bothers you most about Twitter chats, or what makes it annoying or ineffective?
Have you found/done any ELL chats? Have a favorite list?
my favorite part too, just the support and ideas that are shared!
A4 sometimes the character limit BUT it forces me to get to the point
It's just a big community to be a part of and grow as an individual and as a professional!
great analogy! Loved hearing that at these past few days!
Joe Van Haecke at North. Not tweeting enough! Maybe once twice per week.
A4 chats bother me because I need time to think and type. Plan ahead and save responses ahead.
Q4 just in case you missed https://t.co/x3whP9zubf
Q4: What bothers you most about Twitter chats, or what makes it annoying or ineffective?
A4: I sometimes have trouble seeing the questions when using my phone. Laptop goes in the bag when I leave work and stays there!
A4 I wish there was a way to make the Qs tab out. Like an outline. all tweets/convo about a Q would bunder it.
Think I'm getting the hang of this. My students feel Twitter is old school. Having success with
scheduling is a great idea. I am still struggling with switching between tasks! https://t.co/0om4tnH42d
A4 Until discovered how 2 set up/use TweetDeck I was missing tweets, also scheduling some answers helps 2 interact… https://t.co/d94Wz34aPM
tweet deck may be your go to friend!
Opposite effect for me, I get wired and wound up RIGHT before bed.... Then I need to like chill... https://t.co/vuKQNWhfpn
Great advice! It's easy to think ahead when you have the questions and helps you focus during the chat!
A4 B also find it easier to use on laptop vs my phone, phone app seems more cumbersome to use
maybe look and see if you like that better...we are on it with
A4 It is easier on the laptop. Could be part of my issues!
Q5: Why might it be important to chat about professional learning?
A4: It is tough to start out; new language, new tech, new features, fear of doing it wrong.
Fears be gone & give it a shot.
A5 If we just do "sit and get" and then never talk about our prof. learning...what's the point? We've gotta share ideas!
Uh-oh - bedtime for boy. Squeeze some family time in. 'Night.
it has heled me 100% that is why I tweet out the questions early!
A4: it is easier to follow with tweet deck, but still feel like I am missing some tweets.
A5 I am not the best. I have a lot to learn. I need to learn more. I want to be better.
A4: Doesn't really bother me, but makes me smile when I'm still answering the previous question.... I am too pensive😊!!!
A5: There is always some new idea or innovation to try out to keep things fresh!
A4: idk that anything bothers me? I LOVE THEM! I'm a millennial, we love typing abbreviated words at a quick pace! 😉💪🏻
fear yes, but keeping after it being resilient and D Ross just went deep tied! 1-1
I post on computer and follow on phone https://t.co/2X00jPymSU
A4 B also find it easier to use on laptop vs my phone, phone app seems more cumbersome to use
I'm the opposite! I post on phone and follow on tweetdeck on my laptop :)
A5 We all need to share our struggles and ideas so others can see what can be done.
A5: Teaching can be very lonely sometimes. Twitter connects you to other educators who has been where you are & are going.
good idea, I actually have tweetdeck open phone next to me and my acct open in another tab
Haha! I try to use shorthand or abbreviations but still working on that! Only when my character count runs low!!!
Q5: Smartest person in the room is the room...people helping people, it's powerful stuff #
Also think with district our size we get to see what/ everyone is being 'ive! https://t.co/S72kkuqi11
A5: Teaching can be very lonely sometimes. Twitter connects you to other educators who has been where you are & are going.
A5:To gain powerful strategies from others that will help with my growth as a T as well as my Ss growth!
personlizing learning in so many different ways!
Q6: What are your staff development needs for this school year and how could Twitter meet those needs?
A5: shared learning is so important. I love seeing the aha moments that others have, leads to new realization. its reflective.
Hey I am already loving they have all the chats there! There goes any bored time!
Haha! Yep, I would bet most of us are in jammie's!!!
Yep, and is boomers just plod along https://t.co/2QNjS6MnS6
A4: idk that anything bothers me? I LOVE THEM! I'm a millennial, we love typing abbreviated words at a quick pace! 😉💪🏻
Love that you include the Ss growth because after all, that's why we do what we do!!!
A6 meeting the need of each student: differentiation! Ts could learn so much, and try! If they are risk takers!!!
being risk takers from the comfort of your own space!
A6: To learn about things relevant to my work and those of the people I work with!
A6 We are doing differentiated staff PD, it's a learn as we go process, twitter can help us share our learning!
This is so true for me this very night. https://t.co/aIVDFcUq69
A5: Teaching can be very lonely sometimes. Twitter connects you to other educators who has been where you are & are going.
A5: I'm a believer in the idea that when you share out what you've learned/researched, you're learning it twice; but refined
welcome, thanks for stopping by, so glad you are here! and you are never alone on Twitter!
but also taking what you learn back to the children...
👍🏻👍🏻❤️ https://t.co/PmwzXrLY3s
A5: Teaching can be very lonely sometimes. Twitter connects you to other educators who has been where you are & are going.
A6 At this point IDK what I need from chats I am implementing classroom notebooks and blended learning
I heard that at to but for Ss being the Ts and they do learn it twice! Awesome!
A6: You have access to people who have already created the resources & traveled your path & who are willing to share knowledge.
Those are som topics that may be coming up in the following weeks!
A6: Our staff is doing a verstion of EdCamp with is a great way to differentiate PD. I'd love to see true EdCamp style for us
At least the pics and gods aren't counted against it anymore!!
A6:To learn how to help students use technology to synthesize and represent knowledge gained!
we are doing personalized collaboration too!
A6: we see how others are enacting elements (applying/innovating) in the building! We tweet all the cool stuff we do
Q7: What is one of your goals for this school year to grow professionally?
A6: I'm really needing authentic collaboration with teammates. Can't force it though.
Hey - Dave in Ankeny just getting here - and with my co-mod I see.
I'm late as always to the party - but made it! https://t.co/yhJZ0WwIKF
Hey - Dave in Ankeny just getting here - and with my co-mod I see.
A7 I am going to be good at grouping my students for productive group work!!! I am using many resources to get there!
That's what counts!!! Thanks for joining
A7: I want to see my students do more collaborative projects online. 2nd graders are capable if their tchr gives them a chance
A7 student reflection on SRG scales, better data collection, MOAR BLENDING
A1 Shannon Camodeca-TLC instructional coach DMPS...# of tweets depends on how inspired I am that day!
A7 My Marzano goal is examining reasoning, that is why I have implemented classroom notebooks.
If your second graders can do that, then my 7th graders can, right?! ;)
Tell me more about your classroom notebooks!
A7: Since we are 1:1 this year I am looking to transition many of my assessments to electronic
A7: To keep participating in Twitter chats like and
A7: Continue with the student-centered learning environment utilizing Keller's ARCS model for motivation
Angie Miller here....South Union! I'll be in and out
and by snapchat I mean Twitter... confusing those social media outlets...
A7: incorporating more tasks that challenge my firsties 21st century skills
Ah I'm right there with you on the scales! https://t.co/xTyt4oOSr9
A7 student reflection on SRG scales, better data collection, MOAR BLENDING
I'd love to see this with other topics, too :)
Jumping to A6- our PD needs should be centered around innovative practices in Ss learning. For Ts twitter is innovative.
Hard to keep up these days!!!
A7: Planning to do some flipping 2nd semester - need to learn more about that first.
now I am going to have to look to see what that is! What is Keller's?
A6 continued- lead by doing. Ts should take risks to discover innovative practices.
Attention, Relevance, Confidence, and Satisfaction - for engagement and motivation
I just started my class notebook a couple of weeks ago. still working of making it good for S and me.
It's been a game-changer!
If you take some photos please share! I'd love to see what you're doing
I wish I could have 100% online notebooks, responses, assessments! Holy easier grading!!!
Love the risk-taking!!! Please do share!!!
Q8: What are some good tips on how to effectively manage your time on chats?
A7: To learn all I can about creating websites to help my Ss create theirs!! They are SO excited and inspire me!
I'm still doing some paper/pencil stuff, but have transitioned a lot.
we need a Trailblazer day!
A7 help teachers take risks, discover something about myself I didn't know, discover 1 new trick each mo to improve instruction
A8 Make ur responses short. And then try to reply to others (collaboration). Be open to ideas, time will go fast as u r learning
yes! I dabbled last year with Google Forms and my students did it! I loved it! Hoping to do more!
A8 using tweetdeck helps, also thinking about questions beforehand. Then I can focus more on responding to others
A8: Have a schedule that works and stick to it. Chats can become addicting and need to be taken in moderation.
Inspiration from learners is what drives !!! Keep those Ss engaged and learning!
A8 asking questions/commenting on others reflections, forces me to self reflect what I do, I get a lot of good ideas
As you need to block off some nights!
We did google forms UNTIL I'm tellin' ya, GAME. CHANGER.
textbooks, notes and assessments are great, not to mention research at the fingertips.
A8 Read/answer the questions advance copy/paste so I can concentrate on others rather than constructing my own answers.
A8: Know who is moderating to look for new questions. Read & connect with others (a hard one in fast chats) So Go your own pace.
A8: I love the off the cuff answers. I can usually manage pretty well.
A8: Don't worry about missing a question if you are responding to someone! Take the time to comment and learn! It'll be there!!!
A8: I used to lurke then joined the convo then started interacting with others and now helping out. Baby steps
I agree! When I am commenting on others I am forced to really evaluate what I do. Such good stuff!
A8 previewing the questions ahead of time and deciding how much time you can commit will help you manage ur time in chats.
I will see what I can do to share. May have to get some of the younger Ts to help me do that.
reflection is key! How do we expect to refine our practice w/o it!
This may be my biased pick Tweet of the night! https://t.co/nOBPB5uHiC
A8: I used to lurke then joined the convo then started interacting with others and now helping out. Baby steps
the preview questions is why I work so hard to get them out early every tues!
Great advice to the lurkers out there! https://t.co/8uerkZYjlE
A8: I used to lurke then joined the convo then started interacting with others and now helping out. Baby steps
You mean you're not planning the night before like and I do??? https://t.co/sF4nweEYJO
the preview questions is why I work so hard to get them out early every tues!
A7: I want to master ALL OF THE 365 APPS! inspired me😎 I also want to get all my diocesan Ts taking advantage of tech!
A8: Its easier when you have thought through the answers, but I also think that the best ideas come from unscripted moments
A9 my former teaching partner in 2nd grade Kasey Hoffman needs to join in!!!
It's the side convos that are sometimes the best! https://t.co/r6L3KLtVZG
A8: Its easier when you have thought through the answers, but I also think that the best ideas come from unscripted moments
I had a lot of time last night doing that! Cubs game til 2:00 AM and so sad!
Great goal! Google is awesome but is too!!!
I know hat was already prepping answers today at 🙃😉
A8:Just take the time to share your great ideas so others can see what you are doing in your classroom! Don't rush it!
A8: nimble fingers and a quick, witty mind 😝
A9 If you have someone direct tweet them right now include and their handle with @ symbol!
Since plans his chats early, I better get to work on for Thurs nite. Great to join in tonight!
if you wouldn't of invited me I wouldn't be here helping
A8: be honest -- admit faults -- showcase the cool stuff you're doing🤓🤓🤓
A9 ALSO I know made a twitter at this summer she should join the chats :)
Love that reflection piece Twitter brings to the table. Vital for growth. https://t.co/j4Ol4cRJae
A8: be honest -- admit faults -- showcase the cool stuff you're doing🤓🤓🤓
And...I'm out! Great chat and see you all next Tuesday!
A9: Oh no!!! I saw all of the questions until this one! Twitter is forcing me to drag the laptop out for and
not an easy thing, but if I stay in habit makes it easier! I also have collaboartion w/ and Ts now!
pretyping my responses gives me time for the side convos and other sharing
need to set up that time for those
that is awesome, great shirt too!
