A1 While studying poetry Ss were given guidelines of what to find but they could deliver the info any way they chose
A1: I try to offer options/projects w/ assignments. Nx yr would like 2 try some sort of menu 2 give Ss more choice
A1: I think STEM activities help students be creative along with engaging critical thinking!
Do you have luck with websites? We don't get a lot of hits. has been amazing for this though! https://t.co/3wflrNDoaP
A1 we are trying to get all of our Ts a class website started so they can share student work & more comm w/ parents

A1: I'm very interested in this; feel like this is an area I want to work on
A1: I love doing projects. SS kinds of lends itself to that. I had my computer class play with Google Drawings this year.
Love this! https://t.co/DGGLnsXwi2
A1: We do squiggle writing. Ss have a squiggle and must create a picture and story along with it! They love it!
A1: One STEM activity we did was creating marshmallow shooters and measuring how far they went. The kids loved this!
Hi everyone. Jumping in late. Matt, Elementary Asst. Principal, from Kansas City
Courtney from Kansas, 6th grade.
Jumping it late, or for those who know me I am on time :) Sam from Buhler 9-10 ELA teacher.
A1: When I assign projects, I include student choice. Some get really creative! Next year I want to push Ss to step it up more.
A1: plan to use seesaw as a way for Ss to relay what they've learned...written, drawn, spoken, etc
A1: We try to integrate art, music, and multimedia in many projects.
A1: Next year, I definitely want my SS class to use Google Drawings for at least one project I normally would have them draw.
A1: Makerspace and letting go of cookie cutter projects, allowed more creativity in my room this year!
A1: projects had a lot of wiggle room, and my kiddos became very brave at stepping outside the box to show me what they learned.
Love! Balloon on cup? https://t.co/W1xmkuxSUu
A1: One STEM activity we did was creating marshmallow shooters and measuring how far they went. The kids loved this!
Tracy Rampy Pittsburg State College of Ed. Good Evening!

A1: In my classroom my students have a variety of projects. To display their work as a pic or video my students use Seesaw.
A1: I teach at a STEM school - we use our design briefs to set parameters, other than that, Ss get to create how they want
Grt tool for Ts. Communication and parent-stu-school engagement huge part of a positive learning culture https://t.co/KlZ014jZsI
A1 we are trying to get all of our Ts a class website started so they can share student work & more comm w/ parents

A1: Student voice through choice.
Hello Tracy!! So glad you're here. :)
A1: This year we used PicCollage a little, want to use that more to check for understanding and creativity!
I really need 2 look N2 this! Heard great things! Also need 2 brush up on my skills & have Ss use it more!
Putting pic collage on my list. Just used for fun stuff not academic! https://t.co/lw4Qluwa3e
A1: This year we used PicCollage a little, want to use that more to check for understanding and creativity!
Yes! And when that's added with the product created for an authentic audience the quality of work produced is amazing!
Hey checking in late! Oops!!! We're already on summer schedule even though I have 2 day to go:/ What's the topic.
A1 I always have Ss a "menu" of choices for their project. They loved the freedom
Awesome!! https://t.co/mpGYYo70IF
A1: At the end of the yr Ss are tired of wksts. Instead of a wkstt, we created shape mosaics and wrote about the shapes used
LOVE! All Ts a must! #1 big goal for me this year was more Ss problem solving, greater voice and
I found class websites useful if they had regular updates, pictures, and vibrant/stu & T content.
Love all of your creative ideas!
want 2 do this next yr, any great resources u recommend to get started, or just create your own?
Took a play from Readers Theatre over LA Purchase this yr and had Ss recreate it using any app they wanted. Awesome learning!
Q2: Do Ss reflect on learning and collab through blogs? Do Ss use portfolios to show progress? https://t.co/Zv2xSbTL4A
they could always find something "they were good at doing"
A1: Favorite project this year was our Bridge Project,Ss had to create a company, love Ss creativity https://t.co/vVmEDlTLCG
Haha If it was a full week it would be different. Hi Monica!
Do all of you this type of creativity is seen in all classrooms?
A1: This is definitely something I feel weak in, but I do try to plan activities that allow Ss to break the mold and move around.
My sped Ss at times are scared to try something different. https://t.co/Z7N8t9pSrI
A1cont'd: I still get a lot of Slides presentations when they could do something different! I want them to explore more.
are u headed to an or also is great resource!
A1: I tell Ss what I want and allow them to complete it how ever they like.
A2: Not an answer, but I welcome any ideas for student blogging. Trying to use it more effectively.
A2 my own grade daughter had a reflection pg in her portfolio. Was very powerful to hear her share her reflections of learing w me
is all about for digital portfolios, K-12! 14,000+ student creations preserved & shared!
Love this. It's truly their choice. Not new tech or even tech at all that we want, but what Ss want. https://t.co/nZgEVfWy4t
A1: I teach at a STEM school - we use our design briefs to set parameters, other than that, Ss get to create how they want
A1: Eric from Frontenac One way we let creativity out is creating a poster out of life quotes https://t.co/BxLjVBLpKW
A2: Ss don't blog in my room (lack of time), but I share w/ them my blogs about their work and how much it has been shared/viewed
Ben from Hesston, A1: really impressed with how our teachers are focused on creative, engaging projects...on display everyday
A2: is great 4 a portfolio! We use a lot 2 share, reflect, & comment on other Ss work
Yes! https://t.co/KVqhf7UMdx
A2: This is something I could improve on! Goal setting and seeing progress is so important! Would like to use for this
A2: We do have a creativity blog at BHS that some Ss have really taken too. I am also using blogs for summer reading response.
A3: Introducing a class blog next year. Grading consultations have been so important to show growth. Time consuming, but needed.
A2: Ss currently reflect on their work in their journals. Would love ideas for online portfolios of some sort.
A2: I have never used blogs so I am interested in what others have to say. What grade levels would be appropriate for this?
I did the same...started using it again this yr. I enjoy creativity compared to IG's Layout app & other collage apps
Yeah, I think a lot of us are creatures of habit. I know I am! But I want Ss to know "uncomfortable" can be okay
A3: Introducing a class blog next year. Writing consultations have been so important to show growth. Time consuming, but needed.
Don't you find the Ss comments are powerful? Important to continue to let Ss learn from and with their peers
A2: I have not had students do blogging or keep an electronic portfolio. It's on my list for next year. Recommendations?
A2: I have my students reflect, but not on blogs. I have in the past...just got away from it. Considering bringing it back.
A1: also provide opportunity for Ss to collaborate & bounce ideas off each other. I'll admit I don't always know latest trends!
I start out the yr by teaching Ss different apps, then later in the yr Ss are more willing to try new things
A2: I've never used blogs in my classroom with my students. Sounds interesting though!
A2: Tried blogging...epic fail! Will try again next year. We used , but can't wait to learn more about it this summer!
A2 we started using a bit this year and plan to use it more next year!
yes! & when Ss from other classes in other buildings comment?! Whoa! Ss engagement went WAY up!
Love this. Used to have Ss go 2 G-Draw 1st of the YR & challenged to find & share as many tools as they could!
Yes, that is so true. We are 1:1, and it is allowing more options. Ss need that conversation about their writing.
A2-Started Ss blogging this year. Used for reflection towards the end. Will start w/more next year. Would like to do portfolios
Ahhh! I'm late! April Linn Elementary, Dodge City!
Keep at it. The first time Ss fail when reading, we don't let them give up - don't give up on the blogging.
A2: I have used interactive notebooks in the past which become a portfolio, went away from it this year, will do next yr though
I am not an artsy person; this has always been a struggle of mine. But I try to keep kids on the edge with new ideas.
Awesome. is on my list of websites to play around with this summer and use next year. https://t.co/ywlJZQ57Of
Yes, use for authentic audience/authentic feedback (whether you use the blogging feature or not!)
A2: Really want to do a better job of putting more of their work on a electronic portfolio, used seesaw this year some
S/ti I'd do this, Jill! I'd purposefully not talk. Kids wd perk up, had to fig out how to interact w/me while collab'ing
A2: We use portfolios to show progress in two of the six classes. My goal is to get all to portfolios. https://t.co/1xUnCWaQrX
Q2: Do Ss reflect on learning and collab through blogs? Do Ss use portfolios to show progress? https://t.co/Zv2xSbTL4A
A2: I started using this year! I can't wait I have a full year next year. Great for blogging and portfolio!
Went back to paper pencil reflection journals this year. Great experience!
I see Ts in our school doing great things, they're hesitant to share, thinking its not good enough. They're wrong.
A2: I use blogging for reflection & some yrs it's really successful and some yrs it's not! This yr vlogs were very popular.
Check out by Keri Smith. I adapted parts of this into my Sci/SS; encour kids to think big & bold
A2: just thinking, I used class story thru dojo, & had kids write, could do more/reflections
Q3: What guests were invited to ur room? How did u promote online safety and digital citizenship? https://t.co/FGwhEihlxE
A2: would like to try more vlogs with Ss. Many have their own YouTube channel & enjoy making video reactions to things...
A2: Love portfolios to demonstrate growth over time. So important for Ss to select, reflect and justify
Really hoping to talk her into a session on it for my teachers coming that want to know more! https://t.co/XbDpMyjMYT
A2: We use for daily blogging/commenting. I gave them their topic. I would like to move to more pick your own topic
Grading became hard to keep up as I added more writing in my class. I have repurposed the idea to require less
A3 We did through and we also invited I guests to talk about careers Ss were interested in.
I see the same, Jill Weber. Ask Ts if they're leaders or if they believe their voice worthy-they say no
A3: wking on this! Nx yr inviting 2 read 2 our class!
This brings up another idea we are examining, or I am anyway, regarding grading EVERYTHING.
A3: Different community members come help/present with our design briefs the kids are working on. Real world connection.
A3: invited other classrooms and "experts". We go over digital citizenship weekly, sometimes daily much like CharacterED
A3: Didn't really do that this year! Can't think of a good way yet to do it with 12 classes. Love the idea tho & working on it!
A3. We use to blog and invite guests to comment. We also Skype a lot!!
that makes me sad to hear, even though I know it's true😞
Imagine if Individual Student Plans serve as portfolios as well, the ISP's will be a major tool/gift for Ss, Ts, Ps.
A3: Next year would like to collaborate weekly with another school and practice math problems through google hangout
Next yr notebooks will be called HITs, Historians in Training & be an investigative notebook into primary sources
A3: Jr & Sr classes I have industry and college come in to speak. We also go out to industry to tour their graphics line
Q3: One of the KTOY Teams visited our school/my room, stopped by to see the Clothing Closet for Ss & learn about Citizenship Day.
A3: We did mysteryskype; projects like Virtual Valentine and GRA that connected us. Want to connect more with experts for a unit.
My Ss use for reflection & . Struggled in 1st Yr, but will be more prepared for next year.
A3: I've said this before but trying to get all Jr & Srs in my vocational classes to get a monthly mentor
It's true. Up to us to adopt a leadership language....blast it, use it daily. With both Ss and Ts.
A3-For opinion piece on cursive writing Superintendent & district leaders shared their opinions as Ss interviewed on green screen
I have definitely shifted what & how much I grade. Focus on grading application & assessment items
A3. I like to discuss digital citizenship in a casual way so it doesn't seem like I'm forcing it down their throats.
A3:only did 1 mystery number hangout this yr would like 2 skype w/ authors frm our nx yr! Brainpopjr has vids on safety
A3: we have real conversations about how important it is to be aware of what Ss are sharing on social media

A3: we have Pam Martin from the Wetlands Center come quite a bit to our classroom or we go there.
Oh yes! My dissertation research was on portfolios all about using to demonstrate learning
Ahh, summer brain! I forgot about !
How do they authentically tie it to other topics? Believe it must have relevancy & use in all school work.
A3b-Spent a lot of time in beginning of year going over Internet safety & etiquette. Then, constantly reinforcing
A3: I have a broadcasting elective class & next year our first question will be "how do we get the community into our school?"
Our HS has had and both in and out of our building with talks on Digital Footprint/legacy, etc.
A3: I have to do more regarding digital citizenship. has laid the foundation w/ frosh I will get. It is vital learning.

A3:1 of our fav. Guests this yr in .Great message - following dreams, never giving up,working hard! https://t.co/6RT1rYRVbT
where Ss ask y or n ?'s 2 figure out other classes number. It was fun! would like to try more on Skype &/or GHO
Love! I have had Ss begin tweeting to class Twitter Ss have learned so much in a short time! https://t.co/b0ItqWt4d6
Q3: My frosh discussed different social media platform purposes, creating positive online identities, & learning about hashtags.
Agreed! No need to be a grading martyr. Trying to find a better balance next year, too.
A3: did a great job of educating T's first, then Ss on digital citizenship.
Q4: How do u model being a good digital citizen? Tips to connect f2f with others at a conferences? https://t.co/pVfNYuGnCf

I shared my timehop with my class one day. I wrote some ridiculous stuff about American Idol 7 years ago.

A4 best part of conferences is connecting face to face. So important to extend the digital conversations beyond hashtags in person
A3: We start the year talking about our digital footprint and trace our shoes. We hit it often and Our librarians are certified 2
A4: I share examples of what NOT to do, with real examples from my personal Facebook. I don't name names, but show what not to do
I almost see it as a digital tattoo. Footprints can disappear - much harder for a tattoo to disappear
Yes! This!! https://t.co/Fm5EspcSHG
A4 best part of conferences is connecting face to face. So important to extend the digital conversations beyond hashtags in person
A4: Another way is great. Ss know I have to approve all posts, classmates see posts, AND their parents see and comment!
A4: is one way I model good citizenship; promoting what we do in class and celebrating the learning of others.
Q4: I show my Twitter regularly 2 Ss & point out when I meet f2f. Ss thought it was so cool when I met ! (so did I!)
has some great little videos on digital footprints - and ready made lessons. https://t.co/t7HaHm5Pb9

Anyone going to here!! :) My first conference of the summer and would love to connect f2f!
Schedule lunch with your peeps b4 going to a conference. Scheduling b4 u get there helps set the ball in motion!
A4: My whole class is about ! we talk about digital footprints, cyberbullying, social media etiquette, and more
A4: I like to give examples I've encountered and actually dealt w/IRL. Connecting with others at conferences: I try, but I'm shy.
A4: I love how Twitter & Voxer help me to connect dots to great educators; when I see them at conf. I can put a name to the face.
A4 modeled dig cit w/ a toothpaste bottle.Had Ss squeeze out the toothpaste (online presence) & attempt to put it back in the tube
True. But my 2nds don't have Tattoos. We talk about how even though we outgrow our shoes they are still there.
A4: I have a class instagram that I have students follow, sets a good example for positive social media presence
A4: I think gives us a great opportunity to model and practice being good dig. citizens w/ our Ss.
A4-We often talk about not letting your future self be embarrassed by your current self.
Ha...that is true. Footprint is much more 2nd grade!
Good point. They might not have a tattoo but am sure they know someone who does. Trying to demonstrate permanence
You make me smile...at school and here on Twitter with your positive quotes and kind words.
A4: Connect ! Finally met TONS of great "twitter" people f2f! I could go on & on!
A4: I share e-mails whenever we send compliments to parents and we use SM to post events of our day.
Yes! I think everyone needs to wear a little nametag with their twitter pic on it b/c I never pay attention to names!
Me Me!! I'm thinking a lunch is in order!!
A4: have an Instagram for my cheerleaders, love the photos they post
A4 or people can creep on you at conferences. Am I right lol

Me Me!! I'm thinking a lunch is in order!!
A4b-I'm a shy person & f2f is difficult but I'm forcing myself to go up & introduce myself when I rec name/Twitter handle.
A4. My Ss get to see my Twitter feed and we talk about how I use social media. We have a class feed where we model good behavior.
Anyone attending in Wichita?
You might ask about the camp her district is hosting!
Learned on every event w/reg to ask for Twitter handle. TEHE-I LOVE calling ppl by their Twitter handles!
Pumped to do some f2f meet ups in Denver this summer at !
right there with you Deb. Went to ASCD conf & hung out with 7 friends through twitter & voxer but hadn't met in person
I hear ya! Way easier online! Forcing myself out of my little box is constant struggle, but so worth it! https://t.co/OljB8N1OLM
A4b-I'm a shy person & f2f is difficult but I'm forcing myself to go up & introduce myself when I rec name/Twitter handle.
A5: I start out by telling my Ss arch August that I teach the way I wanted to be taught. My personality shows I everything I do!
A5: I would want to be a S in my class because we, together, make learning fun!
A5 Through challenges and problem solving in math.
A5: Growth mindset = not doing something /c I have always done it. Throwing something out mid-unit until I find the #1 way for Ss.
Hey for great tips, and some ideas on Digital Citizenship, search when you get a chance!
Joining late to A5: Class Dojo had great growth mindset videos that led to great discussions!
Have you found excitement yet in mtg a Twitter friend f2f 1st time? Have you found u feel like you already know them?!
See. You. There, Andrea!! Who is going to , ?
A5: I also have lessons that suck. I don't hide behind it, I tell the kids that it sucked and ask them what would make it better!
A5: It is my goal for Ss to not look at the clock - to keep them engaged and moving. Ss often comment that class goes by quickly.
A5: I try to be flexible and revise on the fly. I steal ideas from everyone - Ts in the hall, Twitter, the kids.
A5:after 20 yrs in MS, added HS math to my courses, loved every minute of it!
A5: Stepped out of comfort zone and did Lego Robotics this year. Ss taught me a lot and we all loved it!
YES!! So happy to have met you!!
Yes! Love stealing ideas from you, Jason! Hallway talks are where it's at!
A5: I would LOVE to change the grading view that F = failed. I want something that means "not yet"
I know I have! I love meeting tweeps I interact with a lot!!
https://t.co/onvIqhAK9S
Q5: I used the word "persevere" countless this year! We talked about "the dip" and how it feels to get out of it! Powerful!!!
There will be NO NEXT WEEK! (Memorial Day)
Thank you!! Have a great week!
LOVE IT!!! Totally stealing that idea for next year! Thinking rewrite novel scenes w/ hashtags!
I do this too, but usually I cry. Lol. It is always interesting! Hate failure, but know it makes me better.
A5: Never stop learning w/ my Ss. Stay engaged w/Ss
A5: I believe I would like to be a Ss in because we have fun, learn new tech, and the students are pushed to excel.
Best part of the day- "That went fast, it's already time to go?" Engaged! https://t.co/O11WtKtv9n
A5: It is my goal for Ss to not look at the clock - to keep them engaged and moving. Ss often comment that class goes by quickly.
I can send you an example if you want to see it sometime.
A5: I REALLY stepped out of my comfort zone by learning guitar & playing/singing 4 my Ss! They knew this was a risk 4 me!
A5:I'm always looking/trying new ways to teach and learn.I believe Quality is much more than throwing a ball out!
Will use schl more next yr. School in Cali uses IG-Ss/Ps follow acct, school prints em, display in office
yes, just because they didn't get over 60% doesn't mean learning didn't occur
I know when it's been a super day when Ss moan and groan when I say "we'll pick it up here next time..."
thank you for encouraging me to join!
Amen! https://t.co/MONaQvbn0d
A5:I'm always looking/trying new ways to teach and learn.I believe Quality is much more than throwing a ball out!
I played many recorder solos for my kids...not sure if they loved it! :)
Well that and the dance/ rap parties that also happen in the hallway. Good times in the South Hall at BHS!
So glad u made it! Continue to build ur PLN! They will be life savers next year! https://t.co/kFkLXvCz9K
