Q1 -Why is timely legislative approval of academic standards important for teachers and students?
Loving the new blood. ;-) This is promising.
A1) standards have been an anchor to educators for to long excited that the process may end ASAP
A1 - to make sure Ts are prepared for any major shifts for Ss.
A1: To get it out of the way. We've changed standards 11teen times in the past 5 years - PICK it & GO! https://t.co/G79PFDl7kw
Q1 -Why is timely legislative approval of academic standards important for teachers and students?
A1: It enables us to have time to understand them and prepare for next year
Tammy West, Putnam City School Board
A1: Legislators need to approve the standards tomorrow so they can get to problems & Ts can get to work on creating quality lessons
A1: Admin & Ts will need as much time as possible to prepare curriculum that teaches the standards
great article, Melonie!! Way to get the truth out.
A1: It always helps to know what is expected of us... https://t.co/ez3cfSxpA9
Q1 -Why is timely legislative approval of academic standards important for teachers and students?
David Wall PAR Teacher Leader from Moore. checking in for chat after yesterday.

Valarie Farrow, AP Tulsa Thx to all who attended yesterday! Appreciate
hosting a Q/A session!
A1. It's time to get back to the business of teaching what we do best.
A1: Excellence requires preparation & we are professionals, not magicians. Even comedians prepare for a set.
A1 It sends a clear and definitive message that is important enough to get to on day 1. May help soothe the budget sting just a bit.
A1) preparation for the next school year
A1) Implementation phase is pending legislative approval. Let's get on with it!
A1: Perhaps b/c we've never experience it before and we're excited for change?
A1 The more time we have to prepare for the new standards, the better! https://t.co/GSayEpEISQ
Q1 -Why is timely legislative approval of academic standards important for teachers and students?
Doubtful. The no good ones don't even care to lurk.
A1) the changes required by the new standards need review and PD developed for implementation
A1 so we have time to get ready to use them for next year
A1) Lots of work to do after approval of standards - ready to get started.
A1 -- We need to stop spinning our wheels in . Kids need to learn; Ts need to teach. https://t.co/E2eo8kWJvW
Q1 -Why is timely legislative approval of academic standards important for teachers and students?
A1: To allow for us to plan and prepare for our Ss.
A1: The quicker we approve them, the quicker I can ignore them and keep teaching what I think best anyway.
Well said - needs time to teach these standards well! https://t.co/k6tJhPCV6L
A1: Excellence requires preparation & we are professionals, not magicians. Even comedians prepare for a set.
A1: So many distractions keeping us from teaching. Isn't that our job? Just decide!
A1) Timely approval is critical for unity within our districts and between grade levels. We need this so EOI reform can be next.
a1: It's really difficult to teach with a moving target. My teachers are ready to have a plan.
Q1: Standards provide targets for learning. A guide for building local curriculum.
A1. teachers need as much time as possible to research and plan lessons for full implementation of in 2016-2017.
A1: So we can get ready for next year, maybe enough to time to eliminate the EOIs this session
How many different standards “mountains” have we had to climb and descend?
https://t.co/3mikFWyeHr
A1: To get it out of the way. We've changed standards 11teen times in the past 5 years - PICK it & GO! https://t.co/G79PFDl7kw
Q1 -Why is timely legislative approval of academic standards important for teachers and students?
A1: Ts, Ps, As, Ss need to have time to understand the new standards so they can be taught/learned to fidelity.
A1: Will help feel like a priority...as it should be!!!
A1: failure to plan...plan to fail. Standards can facilitate planning and prep. Give Ts time.
A1) so we can have some stability, which has been in short supply for several years.
A1) legislative session starting out in a positive manner for Teachers could give us some hope
A1b) Lets be honest, POLs need to approve the standards because they approve of the writing process - not because they know better
A1: So we can get back to doing what we do best.
A1 We need to get on track for implementing changes in the curriculum next August (while losing PD funds) https://t.co/hUzt8e7i5J
Q1 -Why is timely legislative approval of academic standards important for teachers and students?
The sooner we know what to teach, the sooner we can start making a game plan on how best to reach our kiddos! https://t.co/gAqTBxhIJc
Q1 -Why is timely legislative approval of academic standards important for teachers and students?
We all need to move together...forward, with a plan. https://t.co/xNQesaBsLx
A1) so we can have some stability, which has been in short supply for several years.
there not. We can have the most rigorous standards in the nation but the most important factor is the teacher
A1: So Ts can adjust LPs to new standards. And to practice for when they change again in 5 years... https://t.co/o5scBCYtap
Q1 -Why is timely legislative approval of academic standards important for teachers and students?
A1: The sooner they approve them, the sooner they can deside they're destroying the future and demand they be repealed!
Thank you! Trying to clearly say what kids are losing.
I'm kidding on that last one. Mostly. Sort of. I hope.
Hey …um…. a little discretion here…
https://t.co/NmAkMOZm0K
A1: The quicker we approve them, the quicker I can ignore them and keep teaching what I think best anyway.
A1: Ts need to create, innovate new ideas for the standards and work on curriculum alignment for next year. It has to start asap.
A1) We need to be secure in that area so that our agents can focus on other important matters. Its best for the ss to move forward
Q1a. What other immediate legislative action would have a positive impact on
Mickey Gregory principal at Mooreland Elementary.
A1) So that we can move on to the next bureaucratic portion of getting education back to where it should be.

Q1a. What other immediate legislative action would have a positive impact on
Need both. To win Indy 500, gotta have a good driver... and a good car.
A1 needs some semblance of routine & stability. Our teachers & students need to be on a bull that doesn't buck them every other year

Q1a. What other immediate legislative action would have a positive impact on

Q1a. What other immediate legislative action would have a positive impact on
seriously! How to kids ever learn before we became standard obsessed?
Jen Doty, Chinese teacher
A1a - let go and give local control to our districts. Our districts know what is best for their Ts and Ss.
A1a addressing T shortage & pay would be nice
just to name a few chats going now. If lurking then there is a chat for u.
A1) It'd be great to deflate that political football, also. I'm feistical this evening (feisty+cyncical)

A1a: DON'T push consolidation, DON'T repeal the Blaine Amendment, DON'T push vouchers, etc. https://t.co/XzKeURMMO5
Q1a. What other immediate legislative action would have a positive impact on
A1a. Working on the issues creating the teacher shortage. The funding crisis needs to be a priority.

Q1a. What other immediate legislative action would have a positive impact on
A1a Repealing the Achieving Classroom Excellence Act and ending the testing contract for the EOIs https://t.co/1CB2SOkYgs
Q1a. What other immediate legislative action would have a positive impact on
A1a) I believe a reform of the EOIs is something that can have a positive impact.
A1) Professional educators need legislators 2 support them. Give them the tools they need to be successful. Approve 4
A1a Killing ESAs/Vouchers on arrival.
Professionals are open to change for growth. Change for change's sake seems to have made people cynical. Here's hoping these work!
A1a: Serious measure of investment in the future generations of OK. Not band-aids, sleigh of hand, or Hail Mary...real purpose
A1a.meeting the April 1 legislative budget deadline would provide with time to make informed budget decision for 2016-2017
A1. We always need time to process & prepare!
Martin Brown, current OU Student and Science Education Major. Grade 7-12 ish.
The faster they r approver the faster the T's can move forward & not feel like they are just floundering around. T's need guidelines.
A1a: Quick action to toss out EOI
A1b: how about Senator Treatt change his mind about his bill which will horribly affect PreK in out state?
thank you!! We need to share that as often as possible!!
a1a) i would like to see long term planning.. mid year cuts and doomsday speculation without data is a hard way to run a state.
A1a) Only test fed requirements. That would ease their pain.
Hi and ! Looking forward to these chats tonight! We are edbacker and are based in dc!
Student Oklahoma Education Association
A1a: SB887 - Any $$ reduction matched by reduction in red tape and other requirements
A1a: I haven't poured over the bills yet, but nixing the quantitative portion of TLE is much needed.
A1a: I left a higher paying job within my district for the one I have now so a significant pay raise. Doubt it will happen.
Taking a program where is a national leader, and destroy it! https://t.co/43rSXXH83z
A1b: how about Senator Treatt change his mind about his bill which will horribly affect PreK in out state?
A1) I believe it's great to get it settled so the text book companies have time to change their book logos!
A1a) Legislative leadership working for solutions to mitigate budget crisis.
Both of these actions would help the funding crisis and be positive moves for student learning. https://t.co/nMF3BeBXx7
A1a Repealing the Achieving Classroom Excellence Act and ending the testing contract for the EOIs https://t.co/1CB2SOkYgs
Q1a. What other immediate legislative action would have a positive impact on
Finding ways to fix budget issues(aka repealing some of the ridiculous tax breaks) so that Admins and Ts won't have that looming.
A 1a: Repeal the tax cuts, yes you can do this. you write the rules so change them. https://t.co/RNDmSO2LZ9
Q1a. What other immediate legislative action would have a positive impact on

Could you imagine what could do without the worry of unknown? I spent the week calculating age of coworkers & predicting retirements
A1a: Repeal tax cuts that lg corps do not need! Apply to services that benefit ALL Oklahomans &
Meaning we all deserve a significant raise. We clearly aren't in this for the summer vacations. https://t.co/aB5vR7UDiR
A1a: I left a higher paying job within my district for the one I have now so a significant pay raise. Doubt it will happen.
Q2: There are many legislative plans offered to consolidate – should the legislature preempt local control of this issue?
A2). All ESA and other bills that create inequity and funnel $ away from public Ed need to be killed asap.
They need to print their stickers! https://t.co/6e6YQJyUH0
A1) I believe it's great to get it settled so the text book companies have time to change their book logos!
A1a -- would LOVE to see the bills die quickly.
And the driver won't go far without the car.
A2. Consolidating schools does not save the state any money. money follows the student.
Q1a) Let' repeal A-F, TLE Quantitative measures, and EOIs.
He is my senator…
https://t.co/lRosO5y6NT
Taking a program where is a national leader, and destroy it! https://t.co/43rSXXH83z
A1b: how about Senator Treatt change his mind about his bill which will horribly affect PreK in out state?
LOL! Great minds. I just said the same thing...kinda! https://t.co/t7V5dpcrLF
A2). All ESA and other bills that create inequity and funnel $ away from public Ed need to be killed asap.
A1b: Get rid of the bills that talk about consolidation. It will only cause new problems and not fix the ones we have now.
Districts deal w/ unknown EVERY year - have to hire months before state $$ set. Ridiculous. https://t.co/4fZrV6DYXT
Could you imagine what could do without the worry of unknown? I spent the week calculating age of coworkers & predicting retirements
A2) way to many topics on the board to add forced consolidation in 2016
A2: I think we still to need make sure we are thinking about the ... what is going to be best for them
besides we have common core in MA. Standards are only as effective as the teacher implementing them
A2: The mantra of the legis has been keep gov out, let locals take care of it. Leave it as is. https://t.co/mY6S2tiIPH
Q2: There are many legislative plans offered to consolidate – should the legislature preempt local control of this issue?
that was 1a) - not 2). Sorry!
This isn't a good time for metaphors. We're cutting those too. Let's just value our teachers.
A2. academic excellence is not related to the size of the school. Excellence comes from teachers and students!
A2 Short answer: No. Long asnwer: Nooo.
A2: Forced consolidation is a terrible idea-why would POLs want to arbitrarily decide the size of a school -
We all have our burdens to bear...MY former state Rep didn't believe in research
let me in on the details here - I’m done summer 2017…
A1- OK legislature took too long approving Science standards, it hindered our adoption of textbook choices,
A2: If this is a good idea, perhaps someone could persuade us instead of merely top-downing on us. https://t.co/b9Rhasplxi
Q2: There are many legislative plans offered to consolidate – should the legislature preempt local control of this issue?
A2 - Hell no! The legis don’t know better than local districts what is best 4local Ss. Let districts decide 2consolidate or not.
A1a) Immediate suspension of income tax reductions.
Some right here. Its a TOTAL dollar issue and in that we are high 40's at best. https://t.co/HHHVwIFoQq
A2. Consolidating schools does not save the state any money. money follows the student.
A2 I don't think there are much $ to be saved here. Show me the hard data!
A2: No, but I won't be surprised if they do it anyway. Either by law or by cutting our $$ more.
Sen. Treatt sent his son to Putnam City for PreK! HYPOCRISY
A2: No https://t.co/3ofXcHmHDD
Q2: There are many legislative plans offered to consolidate – should the legislature preempt local control of this issue?
No one is saying to cut out the teachers. But standards are important too. Need both.
A2: Legislature should consolidate schools all they want--- unless they want to be re-elected
EXACTLY! Jolley said would fund T raises.
A2 Consolidation saves little, but increases problems for students. It's a distraction from real problems. https://t.co/4ujRt0u1Yf
Q2: There are many legislative plans offered to consolidate – should the legislature preempt local control of this issue?
A1- so current teachers and education students can learn the new standards and have time to plan lessons to improve education.
A1a: Well, stop the tax cuts. End the EOIs. Not eliminate PreK. Leave science to scientists and its Ts. https://t.co/8kPscGycnU
Q1a. What other immediate legislative action would have a positive impact on
A2) Local Control is vital to ensure communities have a common link, but funding needs to be fair when Ss go elsewhere to finish.
A2: We're not all incoherently resistant to all change. If consolidation makes sense - SELL ME, don't just TELL ME.
A2: If consolidation meant the new school could get more $$, sure. But NO now because it would mean even larger class sizes!
Martin Brown Current Student at OU striving for a Science Education Degree. Current Parent of Junior and 6th graders.
It's not either/or. can develop world-class standards AND develop great teachers.
It's not either/or. can develop world-class standards AND develop great teachers.
A2) School consolidation is a topic that should not be taken lightly and they should take time and be informed.
Ending HST for our 3rd graders! https://t.co/tqu4DDK8S1
Q1a. What other immediate legislative action would have a positive impact on
A1a: as quickly as possible https://t.co/7jigId3kFo
Q1a. What other immediate legislative action would have a positive impact on
A2 -- I always found it ironic how law makers are all for local control, until they aren't.
Personally I hope all the consolidation bills are not designed to "Divide and Conquer"
I know. Rigor, blah blah blah. I need good people who know how to teach. Standards can come and go.
A2: Wonders if anyone is considering the students and how they would feel about the consolidation talk?! that is all I think about.
A2: This is the sleigh of hand trick - how does this change the fact that funding is dipping (again)? Fix $ & then talk
so we NEED standards for kids to learn?
should remind their Legislator consolidating to just 1 statewide district would not move us 1 ranking in money spent on education
A2: Wait... I thought the party of "local control" was in charge of the state legislature. That's ODD. https://t.co/WxaPYrtvbM
Q2: There are many legislative plans offered to consolidate – should the legislature preempt local control of this issue?
A2) Consolidation assumes admin cost is the problem with the budget crisis. Not true - won't solve the problem.
A2: No. Consolidation is not a quick fix like so many think.
A2. No. Emphasis should be on local control. Dealt w/consolidation my senior year of high school. Traded one problem for another.
A2: Small schools are the heart of the towns; the towns are the heart of the schools. Take away schools, destroy the towns.
But u do have standards. You're not moving forward without them.
A2) Not sure that consolidation will provide all of the money we are lacking…if any. What about scrutinizing legis numbers?
The $ savings from any amt of consolidation would not b enough to move the needle in re: per pupil spending https://t.co/gdyl2SayDf
Q2: There are many legislative plans offered to consolidate – should the legislature preempt local control of this issue?
A2)Before one school is eliminated all schools created since 2000 should be gone. Charters and virtual for profit should end first
A2) Preempt, not necessarily. There's going to have to be an incredible amount cooperation if this is deemed the way.
A1: because you have worked patiently with a lot hanging in the air- we owe it to you to vet and approve https://t.co/kRWYrlqsAw
Q1 -Why is timely legislative approval of academic standards important for teachers and students?
A2: not a big fan of consolidation
. can't be a real politician. He just gave a clear, direct answer to a clear, direct question.
Make sure to add the on your tweets. that is the miss.. I do it all the time.
A2 Consolidation should never be an arbitrary #. Plenty of 250 Ss schools are producing better educl settings than 2K Ss schools.
A2 Local control is a professed party platform for most of them. Makes no sense to vote to take it away.
No, they're the party of "limited government," no matter how many bills they file!
Don't forget to add the hashtag
The question is, "What is best for students in each district?"
A2: it’s happening on its own little by little. Better to let it take its course at the will of the people.
Of course. We all acknowledge that.
In the long run consolidation cost more $$$. But inthe short run it cost so much more.. Wisdom needed here! https://t.co/IkpQaA32TG
Q2: There are many legislative plans offered to consolidate – should the legislature preempt local control of this issue?
A2) If it will force them to realize that it isn't the real problem, then don't mind thoughtful cons. of Admin. responsibilities.
Q3. In 2015 the legislature decided not to change testing until approval of new standards. How would you change state testing?
I taught in a consolidated district in IA -- and we still just graduated 50 kids a year. Great experience.
this is good - dialogue or something - give communities agency here.
To teach what? From a State standpoint, this is important for equity.
your intro is right btw.. Just make sure to type in the corner search and keep hitting live.. (not top tweets)
A3: Eliminate it until someone can persuade us it has any positive purpose at all. https://t.co/fJrDQ3y3FW
Q3. In 2015 the legislature decided not to change testing until approval of new standards. How would you change state testing?
ACT ACT ACT ACT ACT ACT ACT
A2 Consolidate schools often robs the community of one of its largest employers. Never a decision to be mandated from above.
A3: wouldn't shed a tear if all state-mandated tests disappeared tomorrow.
A3 - Tests that have meaning, are fewer, and make sense. Bring on the ACT.
Would take away their big stick, wouldn't it? https://t.co/tHTXngCyGx
A2) If it will force them to realize that it isn't the real problem, then don't mind thoughtful cons. of Admin. responsibilities.
A3. Eliminate all non-federally mandated tests and use the ACT and ACT Aspire for
Amen! https://t.co/Vd85BqDwkX
A3: Eliminate it until someone can persuade us it has any positive purpose at all. https://t.co/fJrDQ3y3FW
Q3. In 2015 the legislature decided not to change testing until approval of new standards. How would you change state testing?
A3. Eliminate EOIs and utilize the ACT.
Move away from pointless EOI tests and use the ACT and WorkKeys for https://t.co/AlluXZXNsv
Q3. In 2015 the legislature decided not to change testing until approval of new standards. How would you change state testing?
Angela Little | Edmond Parent | Sr Data Mgmt Analyst @ Devon Energy | Public Ed Advocate | sorry lost track of time!
A2 OK preaches how proud we are of being rural America. Forced consolidation would kill small town identities.
A3: Put testing back in the hands of EDUCATORS! Pols need to trust us. https://t.co/kVWPhDD4pl
Q3. In 2015 the legislature decided not to change testing until approval of new standards. How would you change state testing?
OK has so many variables within the make up of each district. One-size fits all legislative control isn't the answer on this issue.
A3 no EOI that does not benefit the S getting accepted to college, career or moving forward in life.
A2: Pencil to paper consolidation saves little or no $. Local communities need their schools. Relationships matter more.
A3) Lord where do I start?
A3) If wants to claim it's a college & career readiness state, then we should use a college & career readiness test - ACT & Workkeys
A2 It is a disrespect to communities to just take control through passing laws or just man handle with $ cuts.
A2) Stop spending and legislating towards the administrators and instead worry about the schools/teachers/students
A3: Eliminate it all together. Stop putting price tags on my Ss heads. Testing is all about money.
A3 (1/2) Eliminate the writing test. Making it useful would at least double the cost. We can't afford that. https://t.co/mU9n32FRPq
Q3. In 2015 the legislature decided not to change testing until approval of new standards. How would you change state testing?
A3: Point out to me 3 students who've benefitted in any way as a result of EOIs in the past decade. Any 3.
A3 ACT suite of tests. 3-eoi.
Yes! Then maybe we can get something useful done.
Q3: Easy answer, eliminate EOIs and move to ACT testing only.
A3) EOI elimination and a push to align standards with the ACT family of testing as that is what colleges are looking at.
https://t.co/b2UMS2FaXV
I know. Rigor, blah blah blah. I need good people who know how to teach. Standards can come and go.
Look at screen - in search on right and Live button clicked in the middle. Keep clicking live. https://t.co/SW7qc7AhDB
A3: I would first change the emphasis Ts and schools put on it - don't stress: teach well and let test sort themselves out.
Just take a drive down here in Southwest Ok, and you'll see what I'm talking about with consolidation.
A3: Make state testing the same as the national mandates for testing only
A3 Kick EOI/OCCT to the curb and adopt ACT. Save millions. Streamline our process. Win the day.
A3) Suspend HST now. Implement the new standards. Develop meaningful, informative assessments.
A3 -- Put testing back in its place...as one piece of assessment info. NO high stakes. Misuse of tests when they're .
A3 (2/2) I'd get rid of the EOIs and give each HS student a ticket for an ACT on any national test date - no in-school sessions.
We fight everything else the feds impose - why not tell them to hell with their testing as well? https://t.co/8WMFYNBk07
A3: Make state testing the same as the national mandates for testing only
Eliminate all EOI's and go with ACT with no cut score for graduation. Eliminate all HST for all students.
A3) Eliminate high stakes. Tests may be used as an indicator for professional educators to assess more about S's ability.
Exactly. is abuse of kids and tests. https://t.co/xUDwh6fkQc
A3) Suspend HST now. Implement the new standards. Develop meaningful, informative assessments.
A3: I would eliminate the writing test..there is NO WAY it can be scored fairly or equitably.
Absolutely. No one says we don't need to assess...but can we say https://t.co/Xy1IaSVKgx
A3 -- Put testing back in its place...as one piece of assessment info. NO high stakes. Misuse of tests when they're .
A3) if we have to test, at least make it paper and pencil. We could get testing day in a few days rather than a few weeks.
a3: reduce in scope and value them 4 what they r. Just tests. They r nowhere near a complete pic of our S's https://t.co/CljN9Wtskq
Q3. In 2015 the legislature decided not to change testing until approval of new standards. How would you change state testing?
A3) allow alternatives such as portfolios and projects for all students, not just IEP kids.
A3) Start by only requiring what's required federally. Then revamp ACE requirements.
A3) Use the ACT battery of tests.
A2 Schls r the hub of every community lg or sm adm has to b a part of that to truly b connected U can't lead from miles away
A3) ACT suite. Aspire. It's comprehensive and research based and leads somewhere. College maybe? Hmm.
Exactly! I don't hear of a lot of colleges that say I need to see your EOI score before admittance. https://t.co/yRXpBeGWoN
A3: Point out to me 3 students who've benefitted in any way as a result of EOIs in the past decade. Any 3.
I would never want to lose local control but don't like the "cut em til they close" approach! https://t.co/TqBpIPZDRv
Q2: There are many legislative plans offered to consolidate – should the legislature preempt local control of this issue?
A3: Wait until we have Ts lined up competing for jobs here - THEN we'll figure out a system for ranking and judging their abilities.
A3) Stop allowing textbook companies to dictate test material.
A3. Use ACT. We need targets that mean something.
A3) drop all testing not federally mandated. all not federally mandated. save those $$$ for teachers!
love it! Testing does take too much time - crazy and kills computer classes unless they do it like ClintonPS.
A3 I just cannot stand what HST does to my 3rd grade Ss & Ps
Test only Federal mandates w/ an instrument that assesses student growth from year to year. Assess LEARNING. https://t.co/4W41jG6OqE
Q3. In 2015 the legislature decided not to change testing until approval of new standards. How would you change state testing?
A3 If university level doesn't look at EOIs Ss pass, why is it a requirement. At least ACT has relevance for college bound Ss
A3: Get rid of it. And use the time and $ we save to actually teach real things to kids.
A3) Make testing ONE of the meausures of Ss success not THE measure of Ss success.
A1) end of instruction reform... The EOI is not equivalent to the national standard that is the ACT
Q4. What are your thoughts on providing public money for private or home schooling via an Education Savings Account (ESA)?
A3) Portfolio based assessments over time rather than a series of standardized exams. Let Ts & admin verify results and report.
Just curious anyone against ACT and if so why?
A2) I can never understand consolidation and creating new charters. Makes NO Sense.
A3) EOIs are a waste of money and time. Tried and true standard has been through ACT testing. Why continue a failed practice?
A3) pay our own higher ed professionals to write the tests instead of hiring out of state corporations
Deborah from joining late!
A3) Students need to know that the test they take have meaning and that they are recognized national. ACT would solve that.
Just let me teach kids, not high stakes test takers. Let me teach kids how to think and problem solve. https://t.co/jj5yrb1GSW
Q3. In 2015 the legislature decided not to change testing until approval of new standards. How would you change state testing?
But don't you understand? The ACT is just a back door for the Common Core!! *hears black helicopters* https://t.co/GXm2zrtei9
A3. Eliminate all non-federally mandated tests and use the ACT and ACT Aspire for
"Assess learning!" What a lovely concept. I remember... https://t.co/ShplH48plX
Test only Federal mandates w/ an instrument that assesses student growth from year to year. Assess LEARNING. https://t.co/4W41jG6OqE
Q3. In 2015 the legislature decided not to change testing until approval of new standards. How would you change state testing?
I've never heard a HS student say "That EOI sure did prepare me for college."
We developed the standards. The same group can develop the tests! Local (state) testing. https://t.co/jrbXUo8Ndd
Q3. In 2015 the legislature decided not to change testing until approval of new standards. How would you change state testing?
A3: 'OBAMA AND HILLARY CAN'T MAKE OUR KIDS TAKE THEIR COMMIE ISIS-SUPPORTING TESTS!'
A3: do away with EOI - replace with ACT - ran it my frosh year... Hopefully we act swiftly this year https://t.co/yUp3RHxeVT
Q3. In 2015 the legislature decided not to change testing until approval of new standards. How would you change state testing?
A4: Public $ means Public Accountability - Even Private Hospitals must follow Federal Title 9 legislation
I'm fine w/ ACT but as someone who privately tutors for these tests...equity is still a major issue in my opinion
A4. Public funds for public schools. Don’t gut the system.
Q4: If you think HST and EOIs get me mad...bring on the ESAs/vouchers. I'll show you mad. You want private ed, private pay for it.
A4) ESA in 2016 makes about as much sense as another tax cut
good idea. I wasn't sure how widespread it was.
And to do this, the State needs to lower the stakes associated with these tests
I'm unsure because it doesn't show anything other than English, Math, and Science understanding. But not against exactly...
it's tough. We have 281 students with around 90 laptops (no computer lab). And we only have Wi-Fi in a few rooms.
A4 I categorically oppose vouchers and giving public funds to private schools with no accountability. https://t.co/L7JS0zxeFu
Q4. What are your thoughts on providing public money for private or home schooling via an Education Savings Account (ESA)?
I get very frustrated about this topic. I am an advocate for my Ss and my daughter. I am so thankful my daughter is a senior.
A4: Public money-->public education. Parents DO have a choice. My kids don't attend their home school. My choice/My responsibility!
A4 With no accountability I think ESAs are a ridiculous idea. With the same accountability? I've said it before, lets play ball.
A4: It's disingenuous. I'm not against home-schoolers or pvt school, but don't trust the plans on table. https://t.co/5Dh3zIpIGr
Q4. What are your thoughts on providing public money for private or home schooling via an Education Savings Account (ESA)?
I am against ACT if cut scores will be used for a diploma. https://t.co/sAECIfrxZb
Just curious anyone against ACT and if so why?
A4) ESAs bad idea. Faulty to think that these help those in poverty. That's just a smoke screen.
A3) Is this a trick question??? Everyone knows the answer is......I cant!
A3: Colleges use the ACT to place Ss in Comp I or remedial classes. Use the tests to help Ss before they go to college.
A4: I'm fine with it, as long as those schools follow EVERY mandate that apply to public schools. Every one. https://t.co/AWA5xVbJ5N
Q4. What are your thoughts on providing public money for private or home schooling via an Education Savings Account (ESA)?
A4 How do we organize to fight ESA?
Should we do ACT for career bound students? Career certifications should count for something too.
ACT is to enter college w/ scholarship $$, not to exit high school. I, too, worry about equity issues. https://t.co/8q1qslm2UZ
I'm fine w/ ACT but as someone who privately tutors for these tests...equity is still a major issue in my opinion
By educators, do you mean not have state tests? Or have educators design state tests?
- ESA's would take more public $ out of an already depleted public education system
A4) Taking money away from public schools is a bad thing, period!
A4) ESA makes about as much sense as consolidation.
A4: No, no, no, no. That will effectively kill public Ed.
A4) Very much against! Public money should go to public ed not private. Sadly it's what is being done with prison system right now.
A4) I spent 3 years teaching at a private school. Trust me. They have more money than you can imagine.
Hayley Jones, former teacher, current attorney with --a little late to the chat but ready to learn!
A4) Absolutely unfair. Private schools can raise their own funds in charging tuition.
A4 using public money to fund private schools is unconstitutional at best and classist at worst.
I agree. In order to enter college a student has to take the ACT/SAT, so why take another standardized test as well?
A4) Public schools for those who want public and private for those who want private. I'm sorry afford what you can.
A4). Esa/vouchers erode funds and create unfair rules. Public $$ - public rules!!
A4: If we did better job supporting other typs of ed, we'd have more cred on this issue. Maybe we can fix. https://t.co/5Dh3zIpIGr
Q4. What are your thoughts on providing public money for private or home schooling via an Education Savings Account (ESA)?
A3, A4: The emporer is NAKED. Quit saying HST and ESA are about what's best for kids. Seriously, dudes!
A4 You want your kid in private school? Use your private bank account to pay it yourself.
A4) if those entities are held to the same accountability that public schools are held to.
or months. I just finished CogAT, then SRI, then 5th gr writing test and next week is ACCESS
A3) Testing should be meaningful and purposeful for our Ss
My caucus supports eliminating EOI's and using the ACT. Hopefully we can get there this year. https://t.co/HCr3hfYLqc
Q3. In 2015 the legislature decided not to change testing until approval of new standards. How would you change state testing?
A4) ESA are going to become more popular the longer OK sits at 48 or lower. House is on fire & legislators are shopping for candles
A4 - if they accept the $ they should be tied to the same standards
A4: No go! The taxpayers should pay for the best automatically! Don't split it up so everyone w/o $$$ fails.
will u b willing 2 take into acct. the increased no of ACT tests taken will lower overall school ACT avgs?
I willingly pay taxes to support all public schools. Per-pupil tax $$ belong in public schools. https://t.co/sqAZizwfPA
Q4. What are your thoughts on providing public money for private or home schooling via an Education Savings Account (ESA)?
A4. Any school receiving taxpayer $$ should be held to the same high level of accountability. https://t.co/97G72UiRiw
so excited you could join
A4) This is a bad idea for education. It does not have safeguards to ensure Ss are learning or receiving vital services.
Educators=public school Ts should design the state tests. They know teaching/learning/content.
A3b: I would also eliminate the high-stakes testing of 9 year olds, but that's an entirely different ball of wax.
A3 I agree. In order to enter college a student has to take the ACT/SAT, so why take another standardized test as well?
should also remember we spend about $15 million per year on test designed to rank schools as failures
A4) Adequately fund Public before even considering funding new avenues for education.
Well said! Jeffery is a true advocate! https://t.co/EZjQZu6jn9
Q4: If you think HST and EOIs get me mad...bring on the ESAs/vouchers. I'll show you mad. You want private ed, private pay for it.
Agreed. Parents pay me to tutor a kid to increase his/her score...what a/b kiddos that can't pay?
Let me say, I support this plan, just don't want us "surprised" by something that cld be overlooked
A4 It is a horrible idea! No accountability with homeschool environments
ESAs / vouchers are public money. There should be public accountability as I have a right to know how private schools use my money!
But that's not the purpose of a summative assessment. It's meant to be diagnostic, not formative.
A4. It’s another entitlement program. Instead of fixing the house you trashed, you want to move to a new house at taxpayer expense.
A4) Politicians want all of this accountability - put it there. Those schools are unique for a reason, right?
A3 Fan of ACT for gr 9-12 just have set solid equitable cut scores might need t consider GPA as well. One time testing hurts some Ss
Our current leaders ran on a platform of local control but have happily violated it when it suits them. https://t.co/K1TyVqsnNL
Q2: There are many legislative plans offered to consolidate – should the legislature preempt local control of this issue?
A4 -it’s crazy in this underfunded season. If private schls R not expected 2follow public schl mandates&requirements, then no $ 4them.
diagnostic tests that are also moving targets
I go along with that. But they will need some guidance from psychometricians.
initially yes. The great news is that every state where they test 100% the scores increase after a couple of years
Sorry I'm late to the party. Brandi Williams- mom, student, science nerd
A2) Consolidation issues is a there are other fish to fry
A4 -- IF become law, demand all the accountability that lives with...all testing, ranking, grading. Must be accountable
A4: while I love and respect the legislators running these bills- major issues with both ESA vehicles https://t.co/hEZekRe3Yh
Q4. What are your thoughts on providing public money for private or home schooling via an Education Savings Account (ESA)?
I am 100% opposed to diverting any public money to fund private education. https://t.co/EM23yVmeqO
Q4. What are your thoughts on providing public money for private or home schooling via an Education Savings Account (ESA)?
I don't have a problem w/ that. At least prof would be designing tests for Ss
The "E" word should hit where it hurts. https://t.co/u8ZRH0NmLg
A4. It’s another entitlement program. Instead of fixing the house you trashed, you want to move to a new house at taxpayer expense.
THANK YOU! https://t.co/hiamwVRLPT
A4: while I love and respect the legislators running these bills- major issues with both ESA vehicles https://t.co/hEZekRe3Yh
Q4. What are your thoughts on providing public money for private or home schooling via an Education Savings Account (ESA)?
A4 this year needs to focus on the need of all Ss. Strive for providing what all Ss need before we start having options
A4) Govt. is so big on accountability of schools and Ts, ESAs totally fly in the face of that idea
A4) ESA's are costly to Pub Ed ss. They only take filling from the already depleted pie! Less pie filling less fulfilled ss.
If you privately do anything else, you have to fund it yourself. Why is education different?! https://t.co/Ub37Ew6SNf
Q4. What are your thoughts on providing public money for private or home schooling via an Education Savings Account (ESA)?
Haven't checked this year, but last year's bills were straight from . we don't need them in https://t.co/NyJLSoMLz6
A4: while I love and respect the legislators running these bills- major issues with both ESA vehicles https://t.co/hEZekRe3Yh
Q4. What are your thoughts on providing public money for private or home schooling via an Education Savings Account (ESA)?
A3) Assessment is a local control issue. Only federally required tests and use Act for EOIs at HS. No high stakes test.
You want to go to a private school? Pay for it with your private bank account. https://t.co/Aro1biLJx1
Q4. What are your thoughts on providing public money for private or home schooling via an Education Savings Account (ESA)?
I think this is the strongest argument for ACT.
Teacher Shortage 49th in per pupil spending and a $1BILLION shortfall and we will actually spend time discussing vouchers
so what happens to the kids in a district with failing schools?
A1
Most important aspect of the new standards was the level of participation.
It sends a message when gives feedback & collaborates.
👍🏼it's so much easier to do once we know it's been done. All of our S's can succeed, we just have to give them a chance.
make sure to stay in the topic too. interacting with others than me.
We talk a/b the ACT for HS Ss but we can't forget to build in the test prep skills...which we should start teaching in elem school
A4: I'm buying a hose and truck - can I have back MY tax $$ I'm wasting on the fire department?!?
a4) Public money is already stretched 2 thin. It's unreasonable to pull away public funds & then condemn public eds performance.
Getse Barrios, University of Oklahoma student, future Elementary Ed teacher...interesting convos going on
kas that's a homerun... So true!
Did we just say 'test prep skills' without being sarcastic? I'm not sure we can be friends anymore... https://t.co/pt5GFHv8Ek
We talk a/b the ACT for HS Ss but we can't forget to build in the test prep skills...which we should start teaching in elem school
Thanks . I usually lurk around the convo on Sundays. But this topic is too important to stay quiet. https://t.co/IvaTxsJPp8
so excited you could join
A4: Public $$$ to public schools. You want public $$ follow all requirements, allow ALL Ss! https://t.co/dPOKOCOSP6
Q4. What are your thoughts on providing public money for private or home schooling via an Education Savings Account (ESA)?
Q5. What state laws or regulations should be amended to reduce mandates on teachers and students?
I agree, but I think we need to prepare to shift instruction. not sure ACT measures are the same as OCCT
A4) RSA's, Road Savings Acounts? Take my taxes for roads and spend on a road of choice......hmmmm....this could work for manyareas
Hi -Getting ready for tomorrow's 9:30am Senate/House joint presentation of on 1st day of session. (Capitol Rm 535)
my problem is we say HST stress out kids but at some point, we need to start teaching kids how to deal with stress
But we must be ready. The ESA proponents will be better prepared than last year. We'll have to make our case more emphatically.
Sorry I'm l8 - looks like I missed a lot. ... Could a kind teacher point me to the Qs? :)
A5 - if it’s an Unfunded mandate, it should be gone.
A5: Make it mandatory to fund them! That would surely reduce them.
A4: The argument "we've failed District X as a state, so let's take away more so SOME can leave" is horrifying in so many ways.
A5: Tax cuts to lg corps, personal tax cuts that don't prov much $ to ind. Revise ACE testing requirements https://t.co/KP9ZFuKmR1
Q5. What state laws or regulations should be amended to reduce mandates on teachers and students?
I've never called the police or fire department once in my adult life. Where is my $$ back? I'm hiring a private firm from now on.
. Now is the time to let legislators know what mandates need to be eliminated.
if more money and fewer regs are good for charters, why not public ed? https://t.co/kYBTFUTA0x
a4) Public money is already stretched 2 thin. It's unreasonable to pull away public funds & then condemn public eds performance.
teaching kids to deal with stress is one thing. 3rd graders w/ulcers is another issue.
Oh gosh! I refuse to teach my Ss to be robots. How to properly fill in bubbles and process of elimination. https://t.co/CTj8ZAk62D
Did we just say 'test prep skills' without being sarcastic? I'm not sure we can be friends anymore... https://t.co/pt5GFHv8Ek
We talk a/b the ACT for HS Ss but we can't forget to build in the test prep skills...which we should start teaching in elem school
A5: We need to seriously look at Maintenance of Effort -its Federal, but it is almost impossible to meet during budget crisis
Hope you are able to keep up. chat is on turbo mode tonight!
Thank you for joining us this evening!
A5) Quantitative portion of TLE.
Me either! I want my (and YOUR) tax contributions back.
A3: A3: Students tell me they feel like they are working toward their future when taking the ACT.
A4 because we have so many examples of how well this works! NOT!
Thanks 4 representing w/ fidelity. We need your leadership skills even more now 2keep mandated consolidation off the table.
A5 I already said eliminate ACE. How about also eliminating quantitative measurement from teacher evaluation https://t.co/WHMwBLqgg6
Q5. What state laws or regulations should be amended to reduce mandates on teachers and students?
lack of accountability- no fiscal impact statement - the ability to deny any student they want to... Just a few
we have labs & schoolwide wifi. Still takes several weeks to finish all EOIs - for first time testers
A5: Back to SB887 - anything unfunded, cut it. ESAs? Cut them out entirely twice. https://t.co/EliDYnPGLz
Q5. What state laws or regulations should be amended to reduce mandates on teachers and students?
A5) Testing, teacher salary, per pupil spending.
My Mid-Del student has said that!
SOTS day - always an awesome one at the Capitol.
That was Rm 535 folks who can make it. ... :)
too true. Too much time. I think said to test off site for ACT. I like that.
No spec-ed, no ELL, ability to kick out anyone they want...why would we want money to go there?
Agreed. I don't like HST. But waiting until HS to talk a/b standardized tests isn't good either
I'd rather not give them kevlar when we could simply stop shooting at them. :-)
A5: Tweet away and tag me https://t.co/T10YCQU0kE
Q5. What state laws or regulations should be amended to reduce mandates on teachers and students?
A5) Lots of choices - ACE, RSA, TLE for starters.
I would let public schools follow the same rules as charter schools. Level playing field. https://t.co/L2HP0eU81z
Q5. What state laws or regulations should be amended to reduce mandates on teachers and students?
Maintenance of effort! https://t.co/k5zdWNpqze
Q5. What state laws or regulations should be amended to reduce mandates on teachers and students?
If it's not funded, it shouldn't be mandated. Then, ask the professionals what would help them best. https://t.co/kBJiiO8yDy
Q5. What state laws or regulations should be amended to reduce mandates on teachers and students?
If it would be ok to use Public dollars for a Private education I wonder if it would ok to use Public dollars for a Private car tag?
The stakes should be at least modest at school level. But no stakes at pupil level. IMO, of course.
A5) I’m not super knowledgable on taxes and such - but am guessing that it is antiquated…how about a complete update?
A5 ACE, doing accreditation every year, duplicative reports, the Federal Programs GMS hoops we have created, OCAS!, EOI/OCCT.
A5) Get rid of A-F grading scale for schools.
thank you for all you do for Oklahoma Education. Don't give up the fight. Future educators are counting on your leadership.
A4. ESAs are not about choice. More about not wanting to work through democratic arena for greater equity.
A-F is an invalid, useless, & irrelevant data point being ignored by at a cost of millions per year https://t.co/qJYjhxktVf
A5) Get rid of A-F grading scale for schools.
Anything unfunded. Exactly.
. Where do we get off evaluating Ts in ANY way, shape, or form, when we're hundreds of warm bodies short?
A5) Create a meaningful School Report Card that delivers a true measure of the learning and offerings of our schools.
if it works so well why not use it for all kids?
A5) The EOIs. How $ is wasted on the testing and by the schools making the technology is up to date for testing that crashes.
, here's a good start! https://t.co/T4N9tJWDzf
A5 ACE, doing accreditation every year, duplicative reports, the Federal Programs GMS hoops we have created, OCAS!, EOI/OCCT.
Agree on the concerns. ACT won't allow ELL test accommodations - major civil rights equity issue IMO.
A5) eliminate any state mandated testing since it provides 0 benefit to my child & is only used to eval schools and teachers.
When I say professionals, I'm speaking of all professional educators. You are professionals and should be treated and known as such.
skills I focus on w/ ACT tutoring are (in my opinion) life skills, preparation, critical reading, breathing, etc.
Thanks you to everyone in who took the time to provide guidance in the standards & send letters of support! https://t.co/sFzw2RlNGO
A5) How about back to limiting the amount of administrators in each school district. Less hands in the :I NEED $$$ POT
A5: Some of the crazy IEP stuff online that hardly ever works: then our SPED Ts could focus on Ss, not paperwork.
$ follows the students. Charters don't get more $ for taking in students and same accountability applies
a5 - eliminate anything decided by leggies in which they haven't consulted with experts or have research to support. So everything?
and that's assuming there are no glitches or hiccups (which never happens).
A4: ESA's preposterous any time/separation of church & state/public 2b accountable...$2,000 won't help kids go 2 Heritage Hall
Did not know about this. Definitely a serious issue! https://t.co/5p4FJYUEFt
Agree on the concerns. ACT won't allow ELL test accommodations - major civil rights equity issue IMO.
A5: RSA! & TLE! that make me say lots of https://t.co/4aht0BERQO
Q5. What state laws or regulations should be amended to reduce mandates on teachers and students?
A5) End HST grad requirements. Reform TLE to only qualitative measures. Replace A-F based on test scores with meaningful reports.
Can you explain?? Using for teacher evaluation???
I respectfully disagree. Any parent who cares enough can walk in and visit for a day or a week... https://t.co/xV0tCOaJTw
A5) Create a meaningful School Report Card that delivers a true measure of the learning and offerings of our schools.
Q6. What state mandates could be eliminated to give Ts more time to focus on teaching and Ss more time for learning?
A5) Get rid of A-F. It's useless and can create a horriblely false narrative for a school.
A5: Whatever allows EOIs should be eliminated. ALL of my Ss and fellow Ts know they're worthless. . ACT. https://t.co/dpnRxdoLsj
A5: Tweet away and tag me https://t.co/T10YCQU0kE
Q5. What state laws or regulations should be amended to reduce mandates on teachers and students?
Research? We don't need no stinkin' research -- paraphrased from my former Leggie.
ESA's for k-12 will only widen the achievement gap! # oklaed
A5) Amen!! https://t.co/dvGf3Vm8ih
A5 ACE, doing accreditation every year, duplicative reports, the Federal Programs GMS hoops we have created, OCAS!, EOI/OCCT.
A5: VAM is in the same pool of wasted millions per year. Trying to get Test scores on TLE is much too costly https://t.co/cLZfbe8vtD
A-F is an invalid, useless, & irrelevant data point being ignored by at a cost of millions per year https://t.co/qJYjhxktVf
A5) Get rid of A-F grading scale for schools.
test prep skills? Yes, exactly what will turn our kids into successful adults
School report cards are as pointless as student report cards - everything you try, do, are in 5 letters. https://t.co/xV0tCOaJTw

Q6. What state mandates could be eliminated to give Ts more time to focus on teaching and Ss more time for learning?
A6: Every state-mandated test, regardless of stakes!
A5 Let's get rid of the flawed grading system for our buildings. A-F is a waste. Doesnt Congress want to cut waste?
A5. Please, please get rid of some of these accreditation requirements 🙏
A4: ....and...ask private schools....they don't want the state's $. They don't need it and don't want certain kids.
A6: Same as A5! Get rid of the excess, HST, and unfunded stuff, and everyone has more $$ and time!
Back on ESAs. If gets cut in funding, would the voucher get cut too? Sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen!
No, school evaluation. By the State. Teacher evaluation would be classroom level.
ESA's for k-12 will only widen the achievement gap!
ESA's for k-12 will only widen the achievement gap!

A6 Here's another one - eliminate the State Textbook Adoption Committee. Talk about antiquated and costly, right
A5 Check out the North Dakota surplus from taxing oil and gas companies. Big = $ for education including teacher pay and Pre-K
This is only possible if state will dial back required red tape and nonsense... https://t.co/OB5Lto3wci
A5) How about back to limiting the amount of administrators in each school district. Less hands in the :I NEED $$$ POT
you wouldn't need so many administrators if there weren't so many regs. https://t.co/15EIM6XI3V

top post of the night candidate right there! 4 letter words. Lol
One of the authors claims IF he can get vouchers, teachers could get raises with all that $$ kids 'leave' behind.

Yes, make it multi-faceted and in a way that ONLY meets requirements of federal law.
State legis MANDATE all sorts of crap, then complain we spend too many resources doing all sorts of crap. https://t.co/OB5Lto3wci
A5) How about back to limiting the amount of administrators in each school district. Less hands in the :I NEED $$$ POT
Especially in years where there's no $$ to actually adopt any anymore!
I'm not advocating for HST. I just think that to let kids walk in blind to their first ACT is wrong
Aren't they "test prepped" from the day they enter 1st grade?
A6) End RSA, ACE, State Mandated Testing, and qualitative portion of TLE.
Q6 - state testing. Focusing on stdrds, we wouldn’t have 2spend 2 or more wks w/test prep.We need pre/post tests 2 see S improvement.

My guess is no https://t.co/qHhGzJm0RY
Back on ESAs. If gets cut in funding, would the voucher get cut too? Sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen!
- for me, if you save your money, I am fine with a tax incentive for responsible choices. more are needed
A6) Again the EOIs, wasted time and energy on a set of tests that don't matter. Many veteran Ts about what the can't cover b/c of.
What if the State wants to evaluate its schools?

Remember: talks about "off the top" $, admin cnsldtn & magical teacher pay raises w/$1B less are diversions from real solutions.
Can we seriously look at CPR & Financial Literacy as unfunded mandates that should go away!
Only because I've seen 9 year olds cry & ask Santa to pass the reading test. & Ts should be treated better than VAMs!
Where to start? RSA, EOI's, A-F, Quant. portion of TLE, HST for any age, & all mandates that aren't funded! https://t.co/yjZaSMzIip
Q5. What state laws or regulations should be amended to reduce mandates on teachers and students?

skills I focus on w/ ACT tutoring are (in my opinion) life skills, preparation, critical reading, breathing, etc.
with a little research you will discover that many districts have fewer admins than they need.
I won't side on Financial literacy with you.. we could use it educate ss (future voters) on how money works.
I personally think English 4 (Brit Lit), Alg 2 for non college bound Ss, & other things should be looked at as well!
real solutions are not that easy!
We are wasting money on textbooks and testing! Stop the madness! Think outside the box!
