This is a great bunch of people!
My admin is encouraging in Ts taking risks and allowing us to be creative
It felt different coming back on Monday! https://t.co/V2L5nnbr1o
Good morning friends. Back from spring break & trying ti=o get back into the flow. How r we today?
I like a principal who also supports me in my vision (financially if possible) as well.
Good morning! A little bummed that 1st day back at school wore me out so much that I fell asleep until just after the winning shot.
Good morning christina from MD.
Morning Greg! I'm in MD too. Tech Coach on the Eastern Shore. Welcome!
I love having an admin that encourages and trusts teachers to take risks
Morning friends! Connie from very cold & snowy NY. Thought April brought rain showers not snow showers! UGH!
Quality that I admire most is that she takes time for people- Although incredibly busy, you would never know bc doesn't watch clock
I really like a principal that treats us like the professionals we are!
Good morning friends! Windy and a bit icy here in MA. Where is spring?
I appreciated honesty the most in an administrator.
An open door policy is a must with me. I need to feel comfortable enough to discuss issues with my admin.
Welcome 1 of the best PLCs around!
My father in law calls late snow poor man's fertilizer! We will all have green lawns!
Welcome! It's a great way to start your day! The positive effects often last throughout the day.
Good morning all. Wishing you a Terrific Tuesday. Cheryl smiling 2U from the state of NY
Good morning from Massachusetts. Yesterday, we had a surprise 6+ inches of snow.
Brian, HS princiopal
agree, can't be an ivory tower. Admin needs to be a part ogf the team https://t.co/LHYoapl1eQ
An open door policy is a must with me. I need to feel comfortable enough to discuss issues with my admin.
Love the fact that Ts can have wiggle room bc things might/probably will flop but doesn't mean T is bad T :)
So many admirable qualities to praise about my admins, and there are several admins in my case
Admin allows me to experiment with and doesn't worry about the failures.
Good morning . Stacey from NJ. Up and ready to help my Ss kick butt!!!
Transparency all around between teachers and administration is important to benefit student growth
Qualities that I admire in an admin are being transparent and supportive. Open to new ideas. I admire admins that take action.
I'm in MD too, Howard County.
We r at 36 here in VA. This is NOT the weather we enjoyed in Key West!!!
School Admin: Need to be "real" vulnerable, funny, visible in halls/classes, approachable, risk taker, has my back if needed...
Good cold morning from Virginia Beach!
Wow! That is incredible!! Snow day?
The quality I admire best in an administrator is one who is open to & allows new ideas. My Admin. page https://t.co/IEbsoxfXyu
I like a principal to streamline initiatives. We can only do a few new things each year.
humility-knowing that leading doesn't mean "above" or "superior"
A1- Consistent, collaborative, constructive, present, supportive, open-minded, Ss-centered, committed.
I like when my principal supports all the staff and is willing to discuss concerns with parents!
Good morning friends. Steve from nj here. What's today's topic?
I also need clarity. I have worked under leaders who are poor communicators and it never works.
yes crucial to have Admin who understand you can't judge from one lesson or observation https://t.co/bNWm4sPNAh
Love the fact that Ts can have wiggle room bc things might/probably will flop but doesn't mean T is bad T :)
Yes, we did! Sooo pretty this morning, but Mother Nature is certainly confused https://t.co/XNtou4zkb3
Good morning from Massachusetts. Yesterday, we had a surprise 6+ inches of snow.
Brian, HS princiopal
My lawn was so "puffy" and in need of a mow before the snow came. Will be ugly when it all melts!
And...admins that are updated on the new ideas Ts want to try- go for it mindset!
I want my supervisor to recognize my strengths and decision making abilities. Essentially, B allowed to do the job I was hired for.
Here you go Steve What quality do you value most in your school administration? -
https://t.co/ngeM0VFGLb
Good morning friends. Steve from nj here. What's today's topic?
Good morning Brian! 6 inches, wow! I will not complain about our cold gusty wind then.
I hear you! Cold here too. We are opening our pool today... maybe we can go ice skating on it😱 https://t.co/lOSE9T59FR
Morning friends! Connie from very cold & snowy NY. Thought April brought rain showers not snow showers! UGH!
as a teacher im not sure I could.
Think positive - at least you got to enjoy the sun & warmth for a bit. Some of us stayed cold all break!
Are either of you going to MEEC or Common Ground this month?
Agreed! I'm lucky to have admin like this
Good morning from Ontario! Not snowing this morning! :)
Haven't heard of either. I will check them out today.
Good morning Busy times have lept me from stopping by lately. Good to see you guys!
I appreciate integrity, honesty, fairness and being supportive of all staff in admin.
This is more subjective but I need to believe that our values are aligned. Otherwise, it wont work.
there's so much to being a good admin! feel there's much on their plates too https://t.co/rHX6z5mZKd
I also need clarity. I have worked under leaders who are poor communicators and it never works.
I value admin that trusts staff and truly embrace innovation and risk taking. I have been fortunate to receive great support
Need admin. who has a love for kids and is passionate about making a difference
I want an that values the art of learning and mistake-making in US, the same as we are do with out Ss.
I love having a principal who allows us to take risks and supports collaboration through time on the clock.
I think that is number one for me. Admin have to be in it for the kids. Then the rest falls into place.
I've gone to Common Ground in the past. Not sure about this year. Great experience, though.
An open door, a willingness to listen & provide support, solutions or resources.
Also need admin to share vision w/ entire staff so all can be working toward the same purpose. TEAM approach!
My building admin is responsive to feedback. They host regular site council meetings to listen to/resolve issues
really loving all the great qualities of admins being both asked for and describing actual admins. Lots to soak in
I love an administrator that puts family first. (and just not in words)
Good morning from Cincinnati!
I had a Principal who put up a list of dreams and programs and asked us to work on one and then grab another when that was done
Wish I could say the same....
Good morning Ryan! https://t.co/A8mAKvGofI
Good morning Busy times have lept me from stopping by lately. Good to see you guys!
I need to know that the admin cares about teachers. I suppose that all do but I need to see that in action.
I think it is very important for admin to acknowledge and celebrate accomplishments of staff and students
Good morning Greg! Welcome. https://t.co/IhugHXudVj
Good morning all! Greg- 2nd grade, MD. First timer to the breakfast club. Not usually up this early. Hope all are well.
Good day from warm Emerald, Victoria.
last day before teh cold sets in
Transparency is crucial. We may not agree on everything, but if i know the "why" I feel better
I need administrators who are accessible and supportive
I appreciate the visibility of our Admin here. Always out & about & door is always open if you need them
Treating me like a professional goes a long way. I will do extra work for a principal that does.
Morning Craig! How are you
Welcome back! know the feeling, I've been missing too...
Trust has to be the foundation of our work. Trust Ts to push Ss to think critically. Trust admin to lead school community
I try to keep as much as I can off my Ts plate, but it gets difficult
Couldn't agree more with this statement - - what does the hashtag stands for? Thx https://t.co/NbAjF0JCPL
I think it is very important for admin to acknowledge and celebrate accomplishments of staff and students
District-wide, I admire admin most for mindfulness initiative for Ss and Ts, and for beginning to let Ts lead PD sessions
Trust in our skills and judgment as professionals
and of course the Ss !! https://t.co/JdBPVDSqJ4
I need to know that the admin cares about teachers. I suppose that all do but I need to see that in action.
Recognizing accomplishments adds to a positive climate where all want to be and learn...makes a difference!
I want to hear one word from an : YES.
Yes, try it.
Yes, You can make a mistake.
Yes, we can help.
Yes, you got this.
LOL can do without that fertilizer. :) Happy day to you both
I realized this year that supporting and pushing Ts to take risks is paramount. Haven't had that feeling in a while.
My autocorrect no longer sees teh as a spelling mistake.
Driving me crazy
Love being surrounded by like-minded people. Everything you all are saying is ideal. I add that they trust me as a professional.
Was just going to mention collaboration- structured so that Ts can work across disciplines in diff ways https://t.co/3ElY9EINXG
I love having a principal who allows us to take risks and supports collaboration through time on the clock.
That's pretty cool Carl! Did staff respond favorably?
Ive started to keep a little notebook of things to remember when i am an admin.
Yes ! https://t.co/tf8FK7jBNI
I want to hear one word from an : YES.
Yes, try it.
Yes, You can make a mistake.
Yes, we can help.
Yes, you got this.
You and me both. Currently my driveway has snow because we refuse to shovel.
Thx. Its good to be busy!
I like an admin who is willing to move from behind the desk and interact with the students and willing to build relationships.
What I admire most in my own discipline is that my supervisor works diligently on change that matters. It takes time and patience
Yes. I remember you wanted to get things done.
Great leadership https://t.co/B4n5lt4zqo
That's pretty cool Carl! Did staff respond favorably?
Yes, from my experience, there are few that actually do~
this is mostly true with me but im ok with hearing NO if i believe my admin has thought about it and talked with me.
A mic drop situation! https://t.co/FJuxGMJ1iO
I want to hear one word from an : YES.
Yes, try it.
Yes, You can make a mistake.
Yes, we can help.
Yes, you got this.
Just opened my eyes. Overslept. Hello people.
Me too. Ever notice the drop off in participation that happens with those that don't?
We need to get more people to spin those plates...think of Chinese plate spinning https://t.co/mELVroMV13
I try to keep as much as I can off my Ts plate, but it gets difficult
Unfortunately I agree.
:(
Yes! I think that is part of culture building. There is something to celebrate in each S and staff member!
I agree. So many times I have been told to do a 180 from previous w/out a why & it's frustrating.
phone/mobile device or computer?
Yes, actions speak louder than words. https://t.co/Ge5TDhOAq1
I need to know that the admin cares about teachers. I suppose that all do but I need to see that in action.
Intentional and connectional! https://t.co/2vwTXmJ62z
I like an admin who is willing to move from behind the desk and interact with the students and willing to build relationships.
Here is a Q, how do u handle disagreements w/admin? I have 125 staff & we rarely agree on something
This is a sidenote, I love when admin finds a way to teach. Its not always possible but very powerful.
Definitely good traits for an admin https://t.co/ebjX6o5VXy
A1- Consistent, collaborative, constructive, present, supportive, open-minded, Ss-centered, committed.
In the world of improv, "Yes, AND..." is also highly effective. Also "Yes, please." :-)
Love that intrinsic motivation!
I agree with you~ sometimes I wonder if all do
we wouldn't do it to our Ss, so ... https://t.co/NMMDCtDGnW
I agree. So many times I have been told to do a 180 from previous w/out a why & it's frustrating.
YES this! We're in this together. https://t.co/q2kOKVItQS
humility-knowing that leading doesn't mean "above" or "superior"
sister in law's boss who gave them hot cross buns. She would work overtime because it showed he cared https://t.co/BLSYYA30Pf
Treating me like a professional goes a long way. I will do extra work for a principal that does.
Most important for administrators, including central office, is to be present in classrooms, seeing the trenches in action
I also like a principal who doesn't pit staff against each other or have a competitive atmosphere.
hehe You could just storify this chat https://t.co/SXap4mf4qD
Ive started to keep a little notebook of things to remember when i am an admin.
MacBook. Only happens in Chrome
Conversely, it's hard to work for admin who pit staff against one another and play "gotcha." Kids don't benefit from paranoia.
Little things like coffee the morning after Back to School Night -- make a big difference!
Morning Michala. Hello to all at syour school
A willingness to let Ts follow their passions and innovate. Say yes more often than no to new ideas, problem solvers
Absolutely. I always work hard at teaching, but I will work harder for the community if I feel valued.
worked for 8 principals (same school) each vision was different but the final outcome was the same! Success!
With no disrespect to others, I would definitely say she was teh best principal I have worked under
. "Yes" must be in the service of working toward a vision / goal. But I want an who starts with a "YES" mindset.
Beautiful School climate is crucial for admin to keep pulse on. https://t.co/U3mgXMPxDO
Ive started to keep a little notebook of things to remember when i am an admin.

District-wide, I admire admin most for mindfulness initiative for Ss and Ts, and for beginning to let Ts lead PD sessions
I'm always floored at how ours knows every kid by name.
yes, I just tweeted that too! Very hard to work in that environment!
True! I'd like to see this quality in Ps, community, and political leaders too. A little trust goes a long way.
This would be a terrible situation/ toxic culture.
agreed. I know 1 principal who tells me his job is to find a way to say yes whenever possible.
I think that's such a clever idea. Think I will pass it along to my P!
And recognize when innovations are taking place, and provide mechanisms for sharing/replicating https://t.co/tYkgEueXTg
I value admin that trusts staff and truly embrace innovation and risk taking. I have been fortunate to receive great support
You mean, this isn't The Hunger Games? https://t.co/gHzeAWdZNn
I also like a principal who doesn't pit staff against each other or have a competitive atmosphere.
Just the effort to do so -- and to collaborate and problem solve ways to do so -- is great
Love that! "Change that Matters" not just the newest bandwagon
I think sometimes we do that to ourselves.
hahahahahahahahah I almost spit out my coffee! https://t.co/fJzthXyy5U
You mean, this isn't The Hunger Games? https://t.co/gHzeAWdZNn

Have to remember that we are people and we don't have to be doing this
It gives us something in return
Couldn't agree more :) , gud 2 know U, I am EFL teacher from Croatia, hope 2 join U in future chats
does it correct other errors?
Agreed! That is not a healthy culture! https://t.co/8YqSvhf9PZ
I also like a principal who doesn't pit staff against each other or have a competitive atmosphere.
Building real relationships and connections :)
Morning Supportive, solution driven, collaborator, listener, enthusiastic, follows thru, great w/Ss Ts Ps Community. Tough role!
Visibility is the first step to good management, but is visibility approachability?
And when you are never valued...😭 https://t.co/ezPpIghcpg
Absolutely. I always work hard at teaching, but I will work harder for the community if I feel valued.
ok. I gotta run. Be well.
Have a great day all! GTG!
Have an awesome day ya'll!

Welcome to Marijana! This is a great community. :-)
Then a follow up of....have you thought about....what about if we.....so the guidance and support are there. https://t.co/DkQhtzLH3X
this is mostly true with me but im ok with hearing NO if i believe my admin has thought about it and talked with me.
It happens at other US time zones too... in an hour, 2 hours, and 3 hours. https://t.co/NpTv8m2HbN
gladly, but not breakffast time in Croatia it's 11:45 at the moment, but good to know, maybe I join in some other day,
You guys remind me every day of how blessed I am to teach. Thank you my friends:)
I need admin who support literacy 100%
On a positive note, I will work so very hard for someone who values me and my experience. I will try new things!
Yes. I think it got added to the dictionary and I can't unadd it
Shout out & thank you to Exudes the qualities mentioned in previous tweet!
Starting w/a YES mindset doesn't mean you cant say "no". It means you give permission 4 Ts 2grow.
https://t.co/MHXmeMDQ2l
agreed. I know 1 principal who tells me his job is to find a way to say yes whenever possible.
Have a great day everyone! Stay warm!!!
Have a great day on purpose! Inspire and be inspired by today and every day!

Always love the memes and video snips that make me giggle!
Welcome Greg! Sometimes, I hoot with the owls, and others I soar with the eagles! This morning: eagle camp!
Have a fabulous day my friends!
The ability to listen, understand why you are talking about this and the gift of guidance are key
This is a great thread for all current/future administrators!
Hmmm...Check your settings. Somewhere in auto correct you can fix that.
I can't even imagine an admin who is not doing this?! https://t.co/JWUKJ44f4O
I like an admin who is willing to move from behind the desk and interact with the students and willing to build relationships.
Have a Tremendous Tuesday everyone!
Signing off friends. Have a great day!
Agree! Visibility so important. However, not everyone values this! Got to change the mindset.
Awww..... Want to move to Western NY? I'd love to have you work w/ us!!!
Thanks 4 a great start. Glad to b back!
Happy Tuesday, the Jan Brady of the week, as it gets so little respect. Thanks for the thoughtful beginning
so true kids are smart and can sense fear. Not a good feeling or atmosphere
Thanks, Connie! Hoping for the same thing.
I second this sentiment Kathy! https://t.co/EIZ3wGQ6Uc
On a positive note, I will work so very hard for someone who values me and my experience. I will try new things!
. I want to pet the unicorn! ha!
Def a tough role! Almost impossible 2B all these at the same time. But that's the goal.
I think that there has to be respect & trust on both sides for that kind of discussion. That's tough.
I bet mostly everyone would!
This spark chat runs at 5:30am in all 4 US time zones, so you can join later in your day too!

Wanted to share this with you guys. That's my girl & her photo from this project. The kids were so proud! https://t.co/sOu8aT4tsV
In the end, we must all, teacher and admin, care about the students~
Actually that might be better than worming (Ricki always brings up her four stomachs all over me)

It's not always fluffyness and bouncy babies
Good morning Lori from OH jumping in to say thanks for your thoughts. Even tho I didn't participate @ 530, the comments r valuable!
I value an admin that spends time walking the school, popping in classes to build rapport with Ss and Ts..
Open communication & transparency. Keep us in the loop - not good when Ts don't know what's happening. https://t.co/nuGSf8bIUN

Quality valued most in school admin...committed to be a co-learner in classrooms, with teacher colleagues.
Essential for leadership that allows organisation to grow Nikki https://t.co/uNuljJWzYl
Her openness with staff, Ss, and Ps. Shares her thoughts and asks for feedback from all parties. They feel included in decisions.
My administrator is fairly new however she is very transparent and seems to be fair. I love her attitude & she encouraging.
Admin which looks for the best in Ss & staff
I noted my Principal playing ball with kids. She wasn't very good but she was there and I admired that
Good morning, . Jumping in late. I'm Ku, Learning Coach, Argentina
Hi Ku. What do you admire in an administrator
Sorry I missed this morning. Will try to check in w/the Voxer group later. Have a everybody.
Admins willing to take time and simply talk w/ Ts - listing to ideas, offering advice, very informal but very informative & helpful
Oh yeah. You know that bit where it is obvious teh administrator is skimming the perks of the job. I admire those that don't do that
Good morning! How's your Tuesday evening?
Just trying to relax. In the 2nd week of school holidays so running around doing chores
How's the train?
Best admin I ever had was right there beside me. She had high EQ, learned with us, cheered us on, inspired us & made us a family.
I feel like many A-teams are in maintenance mode rather than leading.Time to shift to
Yes doers aren't always leaders. there is a fine line
I appreciate that my admin is open to ideas
The train is peaceful. Early but so worth it. Enjoy the 2nd week of break! We're coming back from ours today :)
Quality of admin:Loves Ss, Ts, and community and has an can-do mindset with high expectations for all. https://t.co/8LMyQf7tu7
Good to hear. I know of an admin that listens but then nothing happens (just saying for a friend)
How long is your train trip?
I wonder if I would acknowledge a fearless leader, or think they were crazy
I think I'd run with them.
I still have a lot of fire even though I too am jaded by some
It takes about 1.5 hours to get in. Have to mentally prep for 2 hrs out
Wow! I travel about 30min by car but most of it is country road (until last 1 km)
Oh yeah, and I drop teh kids at school on the way (but only until November then no more kids at school)
It's a long commute, but relaxing and productive. I just got a hotspot, and I LOVE IT! Thanks to admin :)
I value admin. who provide opportunities to grow teacher leaders and who also truly value teacher feedback. https://t.co/Co4AiCFXQg
I admit, I contact admin A LOT - and I do feel listened too and that's encouraging. If I didn't, then I wouldn't be as motivated

Instead of J-E-T-S: Jets!Jets!Jets!. It's W-O-R-K: Work!Work!Work! Thanks for the image & good morning :)
Leaving ego at the door. Ldrs have to understand how to leverage strengths over being smartest in the room. https://t.co/wSj8mCi6zq
In my experience, excellent school admin = superlative filters, sifting visionary gold for staff from other dirt.
Admin who know that teachers need autonomy, mastery, and purpose in their PD.
Working w/ this a.m. to show a Case family member the power of Twitter. Can some people in my PLN help welcome her?
Agree, agree. It builds culture one celebration at a time. https://t.co/KvqYLvqU82
I think it is very important for admin to acknowledge and celebrate accomplishments of staff and students
Am here for PT edition. Good morning!
I would want a school administrator to have the ability to articulate their vision & rally to motivate all involved to reach it.
For me: An admin that leads collectively is critical. Hires people to fill gaps. Admits doesn't know it all.
Yes, and aminstrator needs a strong team and to get that team on board they need to be collaborative and respectful.
RT : I love having a principal who allows us to take risks and supports collaboration through time on the clock.
I admit, I contact admin A LOT - and I do feel listened too and that's encouraging. If I didn't, then I wouldn't be as motivated
. As Thoreau said, enact when you are rich the schemes you devised when you were poor. So too w/ school authority
