#TeacherFriends Q1: How do you integrate the "A" (for ARTS) into #STEM? What are your favorite ways? {Grade level & specifics} What are the advantages of a #STEAM approach? What are the challenges?
#TeacherFriends I easily see connections/integration of the visual arts with math. I shared this 'Post-it-Note' project for creating art/quilt squares in terms of both geometric shapes and design.

A1: This past year I put together STEM bin for the kids to use during choice centers. They love getting build and just explore making things. #teacherfriends
#TeacherFriends A1: When making paper towers, kazoos to test vibration and sound, etc., we use different materials that are colorful and allow for plenty of self expression!
@musicwithmar I ❤️to use your music in our class! The #KinderKids LOVE “Dark Dark House” and “Spider on the Floor!” Also we use puppets to act out “Wide Mouth Bullfrog” We have your CDS as background music during work times! #TeacherFriends

A1b: We also use @GoNoodle in all of our classes. The Principal has challenged our Ts to see which grade level uses it the most. Integrating meaningful movement for a musical brain boost is critical to our academic and #SEL success. #teacherfriends
#TeacherFriends A2: Students can make pattern necklaces for the balance scale, compare whose is the same, heavier or lighter. Patterning can teach symmetry as well. Self expression/art component is in choice of buttons.

You can create musical patterns, like in my song "Finish the Pattern". Sing a pattern - la la lee, la la lo, la la lee, la la ---- Have them fill in what should be next #TeacherFriends
It's in our Leadership space, basically my office, separate from music class. Students can choose it as a Social Station in my counseling classes or as a therapeutic resource if they're stuck and need a break. #teacherfriends
#TeacherFriends Q2: What are some methods you use to incorporate movement/music into your science, math, tech, engineering lessons? How do they enhance your plans? What other Arts/media do you use for integration?
#TeacherFriends I LUV hearing from Ts that how they are plugging in a specific song of mine to their Science & Math lessons.
Pairing a brain break such as "Jumping Jiminy" with states of matter.... gets Ss up & moving, thinking of freezing/thawing from a kinesthetic perspective
A2: I think about when we learn the directions (north, south, east, west) we stand up and sing a song and point to correct walls in the classroom #teacherfriends
#TeacherFriends A2: I teach the old Schoolhouse Rock Preamble song every year to kinders! Many of them remember it for years. Music is integral in creating memory!
A2: In counseling class when Ss rotate through Social Stations, I'll play Gary Lamb music b/c it complements our biorhythm beats, so it's calming and soothing. We also use music to "seal the deal" with songs after our leadership lessons. #teacherfriends
I love this quote from @neiltyson Kids are never the problem. They are born scientists. The problem is always the adults. They beat the curiosity out of kids. They outnumber kids. They vote. They wield resources. That’s why my public focus is primarily adults. #TeacherFriends
#TeacherFriends I wrote a song several years ago called The Teddy Bear Shuffle. We still use it to practice rhyming word families. I started with music on day one teaching K 25 years ago. Teaching littles is inspiring if you are a songwriter ;) Love many artists' music.
