I do worry about enforcement from on high--under a previous Superintendent, we had to formalize this, and wheelbarrows of paper were rolled across the street to the admin building as "evidence" that RWAC was happening.

I think it is best accomplished by cross curricular connections and integration, e.g. students read in ELA about what they are learning in science, collaboration among diff. subject teachers is key #satchat

100% in agreement with the importance of writing across curriculum. But that means all Ts need to know how to teach it. As an LA T I hated being given a stack of research papers & being asked to grade it "for the writing" while the Science or SS T graded for content.

A3: We gave struggling 4th gr readers & writers their own blog. Then, scheduled @SkypeClassroom calls w/ scientists & other inspiring people. Ss read @Newsela articles related to calls. Then they blogged & got feedback. Writing quality went up 2 grade levels in 6 months. #satchat
