Join the Collaborative Professional Development movement! Every month, Jennifer Williams and Participate invite you to share how you are incorporating blended learning tools and ideas derived from other educators into your instruction and professional development. This chat is great if you are new to Twitter, or a seasoned social media maven. Ultimately, it’s about empowerment and self-discovery through the expansion of personal learning networks, and the ability to blend in voices, concepts and tools from all over the world.
Q1: How do you intentionally prepare for conferences, such as #ISTE18, to ensure you maximize your opportunities for professional growth? #CollaborativePD
Hi, I'm Suzanne from Kansas. I haven't been to ISTE since it was NECC, so this will be a treat. I got to present with @AmandaBuethe and say hey to @torreytrust#collaborativepd
A1 by not preparing for presentations because I am a wing it person. Making sure my suitcase is only half full for swag. Work on my best dance moves #CollaborativePD

Q1: How do you intentionally prepare for conferences, such as #ISTE18, to ensure you maximize your opportunities for professional growth? #CollaborativePD
A1: I review and re-review the program to "curate" the most beneficial schedule that will meet my needs. Oh, and then I add the @participate party to the schedule! #CollaborativePD
Wish I was going to #ISTE18, Kimm! Unfortunately, I am not able to attend unless I win the lottery tonight! Thanks for the shoutout, my #EduHero! #CollaborativePD#notatiste

I like to review the agenda, mark down my sessions, take some personal time for sightseeing, and reach out to friends that are going while also trying to line up a few people from my #PLN that I have never met before. #CollaborativePD
Q1: How do you intentionally prepare for conferences, such as #ISTE18, to ensure you maximize your opportunities for professional growth? #CollaborativePD
A1 - My first @iste was last year and here is what I learned:
Have snacks, gum and water in your bag
Wear a backpack or a rolly bag
Wear comfy shoes
Be ok with taking a break
Learn where the bathrooms are
Download the Uber App
Plan your evenings
#collaborativepd#iste18
A1. Review the schedule, try to go outside of my comfort zone, and follow soc. media closely. Don’t want to miss any lively events. #CollaborativePD#ISTE18

Getting out of our comfort zones is so important to personal growth! How can we learn and grow without the willingness to try something new?! #CollaborativePD

A1: I put in my “have-tos” (sessions I’m facilitating) then my “want-tos” (sessions that look really good) all in a Google Calendar. And then I just spend my time wandering around the Expo Hall, Playgrounds, and Posters 😂 #CollaborativePD
A2 #CollaborativePD Conferences are all about the hallways. Shared hashtags, sponsored meetups are good ways to connect with others. Share on @Twitter to create a larger group. #ISTE18
A2 - I made my "business cards" today and it was waaaaay out of my comfortable zone but I have a little spot that says "we connected..." and I plan to write where or how we met before I hand them over... we will see how that goes over! #collaborativepd

A1: For me, going to conferences, particularly #ISTE2018 is about the people and the learning experiences we create together. So many special relationships developed there, and look forward to seeing old friends like @julener@mr_isaacs, @audreyoclair and more! #CollaborativePD
A2: I have been chatting with some PLN on social media, will def hit some social events, and then the big reflection time for many days after. #CollaborativePD#ISTE18

#collaborativePD A2 #Realities360 is next week in San Jose, CA.. I connect with presenters whose sessions I’ll participate in. I asked for permission to stream to my #arvrinedu#PLN.
A2 we usually use @googledrive and create a doc where we all add info as the conference goes. Once the conference is done, we reflect on our writing and decide the most important aspects to keep in mind #CollaborativePD
Q1: How do you intentionally prepare for conferences, such as #ISTE18, to ensure you maximize your opportunities for professional growth? #CollaborativePD
A3: Take lots of photos. I saw a great idea this week where someone takes notes on Google Slides, then adds pics to document their whole conference. Might try that. #CollaborativePD#ISTE18
A2: I prefer video follow-up conversations before and/or after meeting in person. In those settings, there is enough eye contact and body language displayed that will help you understand better how collaborations can transpire. #CollaborativePD
#collaborativePD A1 I draft speaking proposals to PD like #Realities360 and #DevLearn. That’s really where it begins. This year one got selected for the former but not the latter. I tweet to the hashtag stuff that resonates others might find useful.
A3 - I use Google Keep. I use the notes annnnd the voice dictation function. It is uber useful. Cause I can also easily drop pictures in my notes. I try and be specific about what I put in.. only what makes me go WOW! #iste18#collaborativepd
A2: Before: Voxer & Google Hangout chats, and other social media. @edu_match is a great way to connect! During: Business cards, selfies or pics of badges, a quick Twitter add. After: Voxer & Google Hangout chats, and other social media. #CollaborativePD
At every conference, unconference, or education event where you have a nametag--Just make it your twitter handle. It saves time during introductions & establishes long-term connections to keep the relationships, learning, and growing going after the F2F experience. #EdcampWake
My team and I have a Team Drive with resources from each session we attend. We host links, notes and ideas in a Google doc or sheet to share with one another. #CollaborativePD

A3: My smartphone will live in Twitter and Office Lens as I scan and tweet presentation screens, vendor sheets (no, I don't want a paper copy, thanks anyway) and poster sessions #CollaborativePD
#collaborativePD A3a I mentioned I draft proposals for conferences the @eLearningGuild produces.. they’re based on what I learn applying what I learn at other events like #CUE & #EdCamps or from my #PLN.. +
I like to make a point of using 2 new ideas from a conference. I make sure I do something with them in the first week after the conference. This helps me not forget it! #collaborativepd
Anyone heading to #ISTE18 I would love to connect during some of my sessions. At the ICE Showcase which is right next to the Keynote Hall we have epic hands-on sessions like a life-sized Candyland, Abe Lincoln, And the Real 4Cs of the Classroom! #collaborativepd Let's connect!
I have also started adding to my digital tote. If I know I can't attend but would like to, I am at least grabbing notes from digital tote. #ISTE18#CollaborativePD
A3: shared #googledoc#bunceeboard or #OneNote to gather all resources during the conference and then sharing sessions with departments or all faculty during the year with follow ups for people who need more #CollaborativePD
A3 I record notes in Voxer, blog about, talk with PLN, read Twitter, check out the conference website and resources, including recordings #CollaborativePD

A3: In 2004 I started a blog while attending NECC. I've neglected it lately. Guess I should return to writing. #collaborativepd Here's my first naive post https://t.co/PalAIJjkbO
Q4: Let’s do an #ISTE18 3x3! What are your:
Top three must-see PLN members?
Top three must-attend sessions?
Top three companies or events?

A3: This indeed is the critical question to ask/discuss as a group. It's no secret that we all learn an immense amount while together at conferences. (Biggest self serving question in the history of earth) How can we collaborate continuously in the days between? #CollaborativePD
A3 usually @nathan_stevens is a top see because he will say anything on stage.
Most people are must see.
I am too famous to attend sessions. #jk#collaborativePD

A3: Hope people will share with the #NotatISTE18 community on Google + - such a GREAT community. Love the #ISTE18 sharing that happens there! Plus, prizes and freebies. Who doesn’t love that! #CollaborativePD
Packing for #iste18... really I am! It does look like s children’s party or some crazy bachelorette weekend but trust me it is for ISTE. And thank gawd it is ok Chicago... last year airport security did not find me funny.
@msofficelens is great to store your materials #CollaborativePD#ISTE18. I can not join this conference but used Lens to keep file on 3rd VietTESOL 2017.

Since it has been 12 years since my last ISTE, I'm really looking forward to seeing how it has changed, grown, and adapted. And the vendors - what's new that I haven't seen. Twitter was barely a thing then, now I have a great PLN to be on the look out for! #collaborativepd
A1: I prepare by looking at the schedule and choosing my top 2 sessions for each time slot. I try to make it to the first but go with choice 2 if anything happens. #collaborativepd
And over time, perhaps, we will be presented with more collaborative opportunities that emerge within these spaces. Look forward to continuing this conversation in Chicago! #CollaborativePD
It's going to be a really special time. We have already learned so much together. The vibe and gatherings in Chicago will be really fun to experience with you. Safe travels in... #CollaborativePD
Very cool afternoon working with teachers in #MinecraftEdu, set a pixel art activity...create a symbol showing what teaching means to you...#CollaborativePD#utbPD love it!
