#elemchat Archive

Inspired by the brilliantly successful, powerful learning and collaboration opportunity that is the weekly #edchat, #elemchat was created to provide elementary (or primary) school educators with a venue for discussing issues and strategies that are specific to teaching in their context.

I also use Scholar Dollars. I give them out liberally for the reasons you mentioned. I have fines too for forgetting to put a name on an assignment, or forgetting to charge their chrome books. #elemchat

Praise when appropriate and building rapport with students will go a long way, regardless of the lessons. The grade level and ability of the students is also important to consider. I work at a transition center for adults and we work on independent living skills mainly. #elemchat

I always remind my students that choices have consequences - good or bad. I encourage them to make choices that will give them the best consequence. Then I follow up with a consequence based on their positive or negative choices #elemchat

Thanks Jacqueline and Matt! Quick question, I've heard of systems like this before and worry about the extrinsic rewards aspect of it. Any thoughts on this? Would love to hear your thoughts and how you handle it! Thank you! #elemchat
