To try to impose some kind of structure, Science Week could impact on assemblies, classrooms STEM clubs and visits (alphabetic order) so lets tackle issues in that sequence #ASEChat
For me science week is about raising awareness of science and STEM related activities across school. Assemblies are a good start- but it’s all about getting students and staff involved where you can #ASEChat
Science subject leaders in all phases are trying to put their subject on a pedestal. Science Week gives you a tailor made opportunity #ASEChat the thing is you don’t have to do it during actual science week!

Students get excited simply being able to participate in an assembly, so allowing them to plan a STEM assembly of sorts is a great way to incorporate organizing and planning their own hands-on learning, not to mention the leadership aspect of peers teaching each other! #ASEChat
Science Week assemblies could be a good opportunity to consider women and minority groups in STEM. See websites like WISE for example https://t.co/A8IeZbLKmW#ASEChat
Was going to be my next tweet! taking up the chance to get involved with @CRESTAwards is another way to put science on a pedestal in your school #ASEChat
Great idea, more opportunity to raise the profile of science (and /or STEM) I like that you’ve suggested in regular curriculum time, (and not just once in a blue moon) #ASEChat
The week itself is a great starting point to branch from. Either for your school's own week, as you mentioned, or perhaps even beginning a "Science Thursday" ritual with planned activities throughout the school, themed days, etc.
So Science Week is a great opportunity to encourage children to speak to an audience by participating in an assembly, science busking etc. Or perhaps ask one of their parents to give an assembly about their job, and the role of STEM? #ASEChat
The theme this year is journeys... but very tentative links to the theme in some cases... our Ditch the Dirt water filtering is in the primary (I think!) pack... journey of water through a filter? 😂#ASEChat
#ASEChat I love getting children involved in all of those- I’m a huge fan of getting the children to busk during lunch time and then discussing the how and why of their tricks 😍😬😍
If your school is doing @CRESTAwards the first time check out Discovery awards... perfect for a day’s science activity ( or a few sessions over a week) and suitable for upper primary and secondary #ASEChat. #BSW19@ScienceWeekUK

or the journey of the water being carried from a water source (I made students at my last school carry a bucket of water for 1/2 mile around the perimeter of school to see how hard this was!) #ASEchat
I never worried about the theme - just about engagement!
Moving on to classroom activities - people have already mentioned the Science Week activity packs (EYFS, primary, secondary) available from #BSW19#ASEChat
There is lots of supporting material available. This from Siemens on Girls in STEM looks promising - (do not get put off by ‘Scheme of Work’) #ASEChathttps://t.co/AHP2m3LC9v
LOVE the "My Skills My Life" section of the site. This organization an inspiration to work towards organizing something in my own school at a smaller level. Girls in STEM club could put together an assembly and lead the students in being engaged in a Science Week, how powerful!

For classroom activities, I really enjoyed the Activity Packs, especially "Recreate a Face" activity found in the secondary resource pack!
I liked how the students created their own DNA code and had another group decipher and draw the phenotypes!

#asechat STEM clubs open up the opportunity for child led enquiry. Or could even get the children to ask their own qs and investigate. Then go on to share at @GreatSciShare#PrimaryScience

Would you like to win £150 worth of education supplies from @Rapid_Edu? To be in with a chance of winning, simply share a photo or video of your STEM Club using the hashtag #STEMClubsWeek. We'll randomly select two winners every day this week. Good luck!
That's the great thing about teaching students in this subject - what intrigues most kiddos as magic at first, turns them into science loving students! This is such a key to getting them into the STEM fields. #ASEChat

I run lunchtime clubs that allow the older students to do this regularly. Persuading parents to come and talk about their jobs would be great but we’re in Italy 🇮🇹 so the language can be difficult #asechat
The Plastic Tide was the theme of last year’s science week. Resources still available for this topic which is something many children are concerned about #ASEChat
One reading that I can think of is https://t.co/PTgRjgFuqG?
Potentially connect it to the immune system and/or a dream unit? Currently placed in a classroom as a student teacher and my cooperating teacher is working on a dream unit (with dream journals, REM sleep etc)! #ASEChat
I’m going to do some simple stem activities that we don’t normally have time for. I want to do a class activity but haven’t decided what it will be yet... #asechat
We have a STEM Fortnight and are focusing on Technology and Engineering this year. Lots of visitors and activities for classes. Towards the end we have a big STEM Showcase for families to come along to #ASEChat
Thanks, I’ve not seen these before, but looks like lots of potential to get students looking at real science research, (links to reading and literacy too) and evaluating the quality #ASEChat making science applicable to their lives

If you teach primary, are based in the West of England (like me!) and would like your class to have a conversation with a STEM Ambassador in Science Week, then you want to check out Talk STEM on Skype!!! https://t.co/dLAc7pjqms#ASEChat
You could also get students kick started in a project during @ScienceWeekUK then enter projects into one of the regional @BigBangFair events , every year there are more and now there are Big Bang Schools events too. #https://nearme.thebigbangfair.co.uk/ #ASEChat

We’re an IB school so the sixth form have to do CAS, my lower sixth students use the stem clubs as their CAS. Fridays we organise the activity and Monday they run it, I’m always there to oversee it but they do most of the work. It’s small but the students love it
Start planning early, especially when contacting visitors to come in to school. It's best to have a broad theme if you can. Provide some activities that teachers can deliver, gets everyone involved. Survey parents to find those with STEM related jobs who can come in #ASEChat
#asechat I always forget hashtags! Anyway, I’m trying to push for more stem in school as my last school did all day stem projects where students were almost off timetable, we did some amazing activities
We do visits to various places but not generally during Science Week - we will have between 20 and 30 visitors into the school though during the week #ASEChat
This is my goal for next year, it’s never been pushed before (not the best HoD up to now), so we’re starting small with Science week and seeing what works #asechat
Interested to read how some children respond when taken on trips to science centres. It appears that some children exhibit behaviours which prevent much learning taking place. #ASEChat
That's definitely the way to do it, start small and realistic and gradually grow from there. We're a big primary school so a fortnight suits us in terms of fitting everything in. #ASEChat

do schools run STEM poster competitions. I think the idea of scientific posters is beginning to develop into a virtual thing. No real need to print them Just publish on the web. #asechat
For anyone interested in reading the research into the response of girls on science visits, paper can be downloaded free https://t.co/FzpdJOoMQW#ASEChat (warning - may involve mobile phones)

Eeeek! My first Science Week in Primary so going to do a few things- definitely busking, possibly an assembly, a scientist hunt and various competitions- hope to expand it if this goes well 🤞🤞 #asechat
We’re an all through IB school, so the potential is huge. We have an enthusiastic HoD so we will be able to push for more if we can prove that it enthuses the students and our parents are really supportive #asechat
Have to give credit to HT and SLT for that - STEM is very prominent on our school improvement plan and in our curriculum. We do have more freedom in Scotland and obviously no SATs stress! #ASEChat
#STEMClubsWeek kicks off tomorrow. What activities has your STEM Club got planned for this week to celebrate? Tune into @STEMclubs for all sorts of fab resources. Exploring STEM subjects outside the curriculum #generationSTEMhttps://t.co/kE1tM1wyvp
Time to start wrapping things up. Thanks for all the brilliant ideas. I will try to get a listing of tonights tweets up here shortly - a lot of weblink to track down. #ASEChat
