Good evening. Amanda, Weatherford TX, third grade teacher!
-
A1: More collaborative learning, less whole group instruction
-
Great to see you, Thank you for comoderatin!
-
where are all your Dublin peeps?
-
Sorry I am late to the party! I've been doing a little work! Rachel from Dublin, OH - 8th grade ELA teacher!
-
In what ways have you incorporated colloborative learning?
-
Hopefully their getting their "innovation"on
-
-
A current trend in education is
-
A1: I also see a trend of using tech just to use it. Sometimes I like my old school methods!
-
Hopefully they're getting their "Innovation" on!
-
-
-
Amanda is great at flipped. How has this changed your teaching?
-
I see this all the time and it drives me crazy! There is a HUGE difference between tech use and tech integration!
-
YAY! Welcome Jaqueline! Thx for coming
-
I am not Flipping currently. However, my experience was great when I was. Running into tech issues now.
-
-
Yep! I will use Google Classroom all the time because it fits with instructional style & it is a great tool
-
Kids group themselves by interests and then work together on a joint research project that they are invested in.Authentic inquiry.
-
It's too bad when tech stands in the way of tech.
-
Other tools, not so much.
-
-
Learning the google classroom right now. Glad you love it!!
-
A1: A huge trend right now is genius hour/passion projects
-
-
A1 Current trend is makerspaces
-
-
Do you see Maker as useful? or do you think it will die?
-
I love seeing students working together as a team!! Real world good!!
-
I jumped on the bandwagon and it has made a hug difference in my students.
-
Just thinking of either online activities or students using their devices just to get them involved
-
-
-
Like all things, Maker done well is amazing. Maker as a craft station? Not so much.
-
If it fits into my classroom organically, I will use it, but I'm not going to force it.
-
-
-
I am loving our school's makerspace!
-
I love that you're not going to force it. Sometimes we think we have to stay a bad course!
-
-
I am learning that I can do what works for me :)
-
-
What great things have you seen as an outcome?
-
A2:
I like using in new and different ways.
-
A2: Lessons made better by student involvement. Teachers aren't the almighty keepers of knowledge anymore (thank goodness)
-
what is flexible seating?
-
A2: online, self-paced, competency based learning. It's a game changer.
-
As long as it works for the kiddos, too. Sometimes i like something they don't
-
No doubt, because Ss always better than me at coming up with things!
-
Please give us an example.
-
It gives kids a chance to experiment with different projects like 3D printing, textiles, circuits, & animation
-
A2: I am loving the google hangouts! Check out amazing way to connect experts with classrooms.
-
I agree, tech (like all things) should be used to better the learning process. Look @ the purpose!
-
I understand that. I hate when we are mandated to do something we don't fully buy
-
Oh yeah - nothing will work if they aren't feeling it!
-
A2: Innovation :: letting students have voice and pursue their passion while learning the standards and beyond.
-
Exactly. https://t.co/QDztpk4S6K
-
-
Like all things, Maker done well is amazing. Maker as a craft station? Not so much.
-
-
Yes, like standardized testing!
-
Schools here are providing acceleration through online courses, Compass Learning is one
-
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mic Drop https://t.co/nikFYkydXf
-
-
Yes, like standardized testing!
-
Do they provide a traditional learning environment or do they allow for blended?
-
My only issue with online learning programs is students just complete requirements and nothing beyond
-
LaShell here from Dublin...finishing dinner
-
Totally agree https://t.co/S1AQY44ukZ
-
-
I agree, tech (like all things) should be used to better the learning process. Look @ the purpose!
-
Thanks for joining LaShell. Texas has taken over
-
-
-
Both, actually. My district is moving to blended, but there are schools in our area that provide all online work.
-
...thanks....orch teacher in Dublin!
-
-
-
My tweets keep autocorrecting to and I'm not mad about it.
-
Has then proved successful? Are they able to attend clubs or extracurr?
-

A3: Innovation becaome a trend when everyone begins doing the innovative idea. That is okay though
-
A3: It seems to become a trend when everyone buys into it and starts doing it.
-
Yes! Many kids who are very involved in dance, sports...use the online options so they have more time to pursue
-
A3: Once the value of an innovation is realized, more people want to use it and the "trendiness" begins
-
I definitely agree! https://t.co/BfGPKWOwq8
-

Besides and , what's an emample? https://t.co/fJ7Xs9Sndq

-
A3: It seems to become a trend when everyone buys into it and starts doing it.
-
A3: When someone writes a book about it and goes on a presentation tour around the country. (Sheninger was our keynote this year.)
-
A3 if people are seeing the successful outcomes they want to try it too. That's why Twitter is awesome! Helps us grow!
-
-
Do you ever disagree with the new trend in edu? What's an example? https://t.co/DU3CllwSAv
-
-
A3 if people are seeing the successful outcomes they want to try it too. That's why Twitter is awesome! Helps us grow!
-
Agreed. Trendiness isn't necessarily a bad thing. https://t.co/F4FEgVcRlz

-
...Google Classroom is a common one.
-
I don't love maker "space"...making and creating shouldn't be confined to a craft closet.
-
-
Do you think they miss the face to face classroom? Or does it just fit them?
-
I love using it though - as an LA teacher, it saves so much paper!
-
-
A3) innovation becomes a trend when it's packaged in a way that the masses understand its need
-
A3 when we espouse how well it is working. Other ts see the good and run with it. Tipping point is reached.
-
-
Does it always work for everyone? https://t.co/6NoHDHmnRg
-
-
A3 when we espouse how well it is working. Other ts see the good and run with it. Tipping point is reached.
-
It's definitely not for every kid. My 15yo theater daughter would die. My 13yo antisocial GT son would love it.
-
Like pet rocks! https://t.co/8qhJFOVpUT
-
-
A3) innovation becomes a trend when it's packaged in a way that the masses understand its need
-
I think it helps with differentiation. We keep trying to fit kids in a one sized all box. https://t.co/O01tegQ3gq
-
-
It's definitely not for every kid. My 15yo theater daughter would die. My 13yo antisocial GT son would love it.
-
That is such a great way to use it! How cool for you and for them! :)
-
Better late than never! Good to see ya
-
-
Q4: Why are trends considered flash in the pan? How does it change an innovation once it's a trend? https://t.co/7O6cWAdYpD
-
I totally bought them! My little pet rocks!
-
...Yes, it is great! Plus, it is a great way to get them to interact with each other more.
-
no cause some ideas stink! they are innovative but not pedagogically sound
-
-
Great point Can you think of one? https://t.co/BDmxAtXqI2
-
-
no cause some ideas stink! they are innovative but not pedagogically sound
-
A4: Buy-in and results. Also, implementation with fidelity. Sometimes Ts do trendy things but they miss the big picture
-
-
Yes!!! Can you elaborate?
-
A4: Sometimes ideas just need a little fine-tuning. I feel like I haven't been in the game long enough to see too much come & go
-
-
But what a great recognition and distinction! @JRose_Edu
-
Love that emample lol need autocor Thx for not calling it lol
-
nope i don't hear about the ones that don't make trend. they die out. u?
-
How long? and what did you do before? https://t.co/DdQJjnXtrT
-
-
A4: Sometimes ideas just need a little fine-tuning. I feel like I haven't been in the game long enough to see too much come & go
-
A4: I think we get over saturated with trends, which causes people lose interest.
-
I see trends as experiments in the making some succeed some don't but we learn from them all https://t.co/e8bsTPYcHF
-
Like when a teacher uses a tool like Padlet but uses it for super low-level, Post-it type work. https://t.co/RQeVNrELex
-
-
Yes!!! Can you elaborate?
-
Good point. But do you remember a time everyone was gung ho and then it died out? and maybe you knew all along
-
It's only my 3rd year teaching!
-
-
-
I don't hate padlet. It's there if a kids wants to use it.
-
A6: STATE MANDATED TESTING!!!!!!!!!!
-
A5:Trend seems more transitory...like it won't be around long. At what point does a trend become best practice?
-
-
A3.14159265359) it's not the innovation that matters does the tool fit the task that the students are being asked to do
-
-
-
-
-
-
For me, it just seems that those who make policy need to be more in touch with actual classroom activity.
-
-
COMPLETELY agree!!! One day in the life of a T or S!!!! https://t.co/PC5afsrxGF
-
-
For me, it just seems that those who make policy need to be more in touch with actual classroom activity.
-
Yeah, the program I'm going through in OH right now is not fun to renew my license (for a "new" teacher.
-
Agreed. Often, they're running on outdated information and experiences.
-
I didn't think started till 9 pm central ๐ช๐ท https://t.co/k7UaqIldZt
-
-
Innotrend? Is that a new word?? ๐ท ยฉj2k16
-
Oh yeah, experiences if probably what they're thinking of..."I went to school, so I know what teachers do..."
-
-
Unfortunately, it seems that teacher education programs are the last to innovate ๐ค๐๐ฟ https://t.co/F0kBPa8M0C
-
-
Yeah, the program I'm going through in OH right now is not fun to renew my license (for a "new" teacher.
-
-
-
-
A6: I would love to see tech innovation in the music classroom.
-
What can you do to help this happen? https://t.co/Wgohuol1VW
-
-
Unfortunately, it seems that teacher education programs are the last to innovate ๐ค๐๐ฟ https://t.co/F0kBPa8M0C
-
-
Yeah, the program I'm going through in OH right now is not fun to renew my license (for a "new" teacher.
-
In my experience, we lower the bar for teacher prep... Keep high standards & ppl will rise to it https://t.co/DgAzPjucwy
-
Why do you think that college teacher programs are so slow to change?
-
I bet could hook you up in this area. https://t.co/xH1CQyoLyr
-
-
A6: I would love to see tech innovation in the music classroom.
-
Signing in for the last eight minutes...
-
A6: I would also like to see an innovation in how we train college students to become teachers.
-
-
I just wrote in my dictionary so now a word
-
Why do you think Ts don't push more for change? We see the need.
-
-
What can we as Ts do to help with this need? Can we use Social Media to help? https://t.co/RiIoYjjM6E
-
-
A6: I would also like to see an innovation in how we train college students to become teachers.
-
One hundo. https://t.co/rPwEM5v4RS

Please share an innovation or trend that you are particularly fond of right now.
-
...I think as districts we need to more to reach out to the professors in order to get them into classrooms.
-
I learned the most from my coop teacher during ST - maybe helping with that and taking student teachers
-
I want to thank for helping me out tonight...Can't wait to read though the feed...
-
-
Student-led errrythang, y'all!! https://t.co/oFXWQwlcSO

-
Please share an innovation or trend that you are particularly fond of right now.
-
I love student choice and self directed learning. So scary for many teachers to let go of control, but so powerful for kids.
-
Great idea!!!! Maybe mentor them on social media like voxer/twitter? https://t.co/yrVVeZW9DC
-
-
...I think as districts we need to more to reach out to the professors in order to get them into classrooms.
-
..this is good, but the professors also need to see what is going on. They are out of touch
-
You and would be proud of me today. Stepped up the S Led game Y'all inspire me https://t.co/LTfG0u265C

I don't know much about this, so I am glad to learn that this is something to work on!
-
...along with side by side team-teaching to coach them through real life classroom scenarios
-
Maybe they should visit classrooms with Ss of T programs?
-
