Hello ! glad to be returning to this chat !
A1: a report card, in theory, should represent a grade in which the Ss are achieving the mandated standards. https://t.co/y7VK79LiXG
Hey there!! Another brave soul joining in! Great to have you join us!
Ok...good thought! tell me more ! https://t.co/KVYgE0Kc4w
A1: Report cards are meant to communicate to Fams how students are doing in class as well as to make Ss aware of their grades
so glad to have you participating in this chat!
Ok...so Report Cards represent grades for standards. Tell me more! ;)
Glad to join this informative chat about topics important to new teachers learning and teaching experiences

My Grading, Progress Reports and Report Cards page https://t.co/s53I4hr6Bo Parents must be kept in the loop about child's progress.
A1: Is the report card an accurate measure of the child's success in school so far? or at a given time? Or ?
I hope: grades Ts give represent a curriculum based around standards & that RCs show Ss and Ps where Ss r at https://t.co/xRrvmwhAEX
Ok...so Report Cards represent grades for standards. Tell me more! ;)
yes!! Good point! Love it! https://t.co/R9nBzZHkXP
A1 contd Of course letter grades are not always indicative of student understanding, many fams place heavy emphasis on grades
Ok...I love that reflection so much more! Well said. :)
Thanks for asking more on my answer! Being challenged to reflect is the best way to learn in these chats! https://t.co/87i9ad2N3i
Ok...I love that reflection so much more! Well said. :)
A1 most report cards I know are comprehensive - listing grades for all marking periods at once.
A bit late, but here! are you able to join this week?
Yes! parent/family partnerships are a vital part of the teaching and learning process - sharing knowedge
A1: Report cards do not always accurately show how much a student knows bc success can be measured in other ways
A1: I'd say it's an accurate reporting of 1 dimension of their ability to perform in a certain way.
YES! That's the idea. Let's challenge our thinking a little bit, right? In bigger chats its too hard to do. :)
exactly and I agree! Loev that ou shared that!! https://t.co/1njgMw46Fl
A1: Report cards do not always accurately show how much a student knows bc success can be measured in other ways
...and is often BETTER measured in ways that aren't letter grades. https://t.co/Q19Hlnphi5

How do we reflect progress in other skills essential to cognitive skills, such as social emotional develop? https://t.co/TiLANehFfS
A1 most report cards I know are comprehensive - listing grades for all marking periods at once.
So then do we seek ways to measure other dimensions?
Ohhhh...so wise and love that!! Welcome https://t.co/T6gM02cBpC

Q2: Who do you think benefits most from the report card? (parents? students? future schools?) Please share! https://t.co/jIzkI14kuV
One of my frustrations so far is that some students just don't do their outside work, thus leading to poor grade
Social devt is best gauged by making notes on a student file, speaking with parents, sharing stories, etc. notice it
I believe parents and students benefit most, and this varies at age/grade level. https://t.co/Mzb5Z3US1V
Q2: Who do you think benefits most from the report card? (parents? students? future schools?) Please share! https://t.co/jIzkI14kuV
trying to tap in and follow along
Entire staff collaborated and rewrote ours last year. Included levels of accommodation per subject, etc.
A2: I feel like future schools benefit most. Yes, students see grades, but they don't see specific improvement areas with them.
A2 imo it's better for the parents. students can't explain how much they know outside of the classroom but they can feel it inside 1
A3 No one-they are very vague and do not provide actionable data for anyone. https://t.co/qk9Fug0hHS
Q2: Who do you think benefits most from the report card? (parents? students? future schools?) Please share! https://t.co/jIzkI14kuV
A2: Parents benefit, Ss are rated, future schools use them as a warning system. Not fond of it all but...
Yes! I recently Tried for the first time with my HIS sophomores. Def. challenged them in new ways
Do you all still do report cards at Tolton? We send home diocesan ones quarterly but w/ internet grades are always online
Wonderful way to set the tone for collaboration with families
Welcome Father! How awesome to have you join us! :)
I see them somewhat to minimally engaged in class, but then not doing any work, means I can't even grade it...
You are spot on I think! :) https://t.co/YdTRVVcbxI
A2: Parents benefit, Ss are rated, future schools use them as a warning system. Not fond of it all but...
Grades are viewable online 24/7. Each quarter they're finalized but no paper copy sent.
Yes. It is so important to have muliple ways to assess students learning to build capacities
Q2: Transparency with the parents is a big bonus.
A2: The kids that do well.. or are invested... Literally no one else does... for a variety of reasons https://t.co/wyH9ieNHnF
Q2: Who do you think benefits most from the report card? (parents? students? future schools?) Please share! https://t.co/jIzkI14kuV
Sometimes I have Ss engage in class, do fine on tests, but never turn in any work- they end up doing poorly
How are teachers intentionally engaging student and supporting transfer/ ownership of learning & knowledge ? https://t.co/gZ00So0Yks

Yes!! So important! https://t.co/ACytDbH56w

Does report card support intrinsic motivation or are children motivated 2 do well and it reflects in grade? https://t.co/IM0Sejs7zj

Q2: Who do you think benefits most from the report card? (parents? students? future schools?) Please share! https://t.co/jIzkI14kuV
Students are motivated to get good grades so they can get into college. often has nothing to do with understanding.
What are strategies to encourage students 2 turn in their work? Is content student driven to teacher driven? https://t.co/QBvw5y68Ns
Sometimes I have Ss engage in class, do fine on tests, but never turn in any work- they end up doing poorly
Leaving work now. Gotta drive. Maybe I'll be back.
Such a powerful statement! Love this.
Q3: How do you prepare for report cards? What does your "report card preparation process” look like? https://t.co/ywXbyWOCca
Reports cards that provide do not provide actionalbe data hinder student provress and teacher effectiveness https://t.co/w2iVNg6DwR
A3 No one-they are very vague and do not provide actionable data for anyone. https://t.co/qk9Fug0hHS
Q2: Who do you think benefits most from the report card? (parents? students? future schools?) Please share! https://t.co/jIzkI14kuV
A3: Used to consist of looking at data and working to make connections. I'd also often work with colleagues to compare ideas.
A2: I think parents benefit the most bc it helps them know how their kids are aligning w/ the standards
A3: A lot of scramble to make sure students' grades are up to date. Usually, I give them multiple chances to make up work.
A3: In making those connections I was looking for patterns. Also behavior and self esteem. What was the match and/or disconnect.
All late work due 1 wk b4 end of qrtr, spend last wk grading, entering last of grades. Add RC comments @ end of qrtr
As an early childhood educator, report cards look different. Ours is based on skills, & graded on a scale.
A2: Parents/future schools benefit most from report cards. Without grade explanation and tips for success, RCs can be feared by kids
A3 cont.: I usually spend time tracking down kids and seeing what we need to do to improve next quarter.
A struggle I have, I ask, am I just using grades to motivate? In this regard teaching HS is different than college
Awe...yes. So interesting to see the differences. https://t.co/FCHQZazlV8

Wow!! Huge prep there. ;) https://t.co/aroyAc1O1K
Oh & I take care of Ss service hours. So approve & manually enter hrs for all 300 HS Ss each quarter!
intrinsic motivation, desire to learn, curiosity are important aspects of capacity building 4 lifelong learning
A3 @ the end of marking period, ensure all work & revisions are turned in. allow for extra credit, maybe? warn parents to expect RCs
A3 cont.: I tend to look a lot at the trends in grade changes. It's 1 thing for them to fluctuate, another to drop 3 letters.
How involved are your students in the assessment process?
Yes. assessment of progress indicators 4 ECE should developmentally appropriate-build brains https://t.co/X0NoCNDOcg

==>>Last one! Q4: What evaluations used to document student learning are the most useful for you during report card preparation?
A3 I get data from small group, & pull outs. Also from our assessments & screeners. Again, so different in EC!
But how do we get kids who don't care to have intrinsic motivation to do wrk? & not just bc Ps are mad?
A4: While quick and seemingly easy, tests and quizzes with performance tasks included can help show if skills are at mastery.
A4: Point blank: Did the kid prove to me that they know the material? Yes or no... https://t.co/qdAtjDEfrd
==>>Last one! Q4: What evaluations used to document student learning are the most useful for you during report card preparation?
Yes...this is really interesting. Such a different process! What can K-12 learn from this? ;) https://t.co/1ck8pkewUj

A4 learning is better documented via formative assessment. exit tickets, anon surveys (what do/don't Ss get) also grade for accuracy
Well said!! https://t.co/zgwTeGkZAQ

A5: I'll make sure parents know of any concerns so there's no surprises. In person chats seem more accommodating than short comments
A3: um I'm so new to teaching HS, I've never had to yet. Training was for (and i also do) teach college. Why I need
Awe...how cool! Great that you made the time to join us. :)
our service hours are done by each teacher individually. Grateful I only have 13 in my class.
Yes! we can set tone 4 student driven learning through relevant content & student developed portfolios - https://t.co/yZhWSiK11H
As most grading posted online always, is a report card truly necessary?
I agree! Great to be able to take the time to REALLY talk with parents about report cards. :)
I feel like small group shouldn't stop after elementary. It's a great way to know where your Ss are! https://t.co/mmlfhV018o

Do you provide mutiple ways for students to show what they know and have mastered
