-
Hi! Melissa from Stamford - 3rd grade teacher
-
As we go through tonight's chat please let us know if you have any topics you'd like covered & share~
-
Make sure to use the A1, A2 format when answering questions and don't forget
-
Hi Everyone! I am Kathy from East Granby grade 3
-
Hi Kathy!! How are you? On vacation this week? Or did you already have yours?
-
This week! What about you?
-
Ours was last week...tough getting back in the swing of things this week, but glad to see the kiddos!
-
We still need to connect our classes - I'm sorry I have been crazy - no more student teacher so I can do anything!
-
Q1: What are you doing to keep yourself motivated for the rest of the school year?
-
Helloooo everyone Sean Hutchinson 4th grade teacher from Stamford.
-
-
A1: I'm trying to new ideas with the kids, playing around with certain rituals and routines that I can maybe implement next year
-
Oops! Tha'ts my response for the NEXT question!
-
For me -- leaving work at 4:00 vs. 5:00, leaving work at work more days than not...reading more and spending more time outside!
-
I got a grant and ordered a ton of new books. We are going to design our own May Madness
-
A1: I just changed up my math routine. I am not sure if centers is the best for kids.
-
Hey hey! Paul from Stamford - 4th grade ELA/SS
-
For me - keep working out; try to get outside more. Leave at a decent time.
-
OH WOW!! That is an AMAZING idea!! I am going to borrow this!!
-
what kind of books did you order?
-
-
I am letting kids decide how they want it ran.
-
Paul good to see you this evening? How are you doing?
-
You know...I have recently discovered the same thing and I used to LOVE centers
-
a lot of 2015/16 nonfiction; picture books and some middle grade (that may not be totally appropriate)
-
A1: Setting goals. What MUST be accomplished over the next ~50 days
-
Oh cool....I will def try to talk to them about it -- I think they will LOVE it I will too I was bummed I missed MMad
-
you too my man! Everything is good over jere, how about you?
-
Ss also said they want to read outside; that may be our Friday reading block
-
kind of stressful to think of that way! How are you going to manage that?
-
-
I got some awesome books! They are currently evaluating
-
That is an awesome idea!! I'd love to do that too -- SO I'm borrowing this one too!
-
How do they evaluate them?
-
-
Name of book, star rating and notes, nothing fancy. We will then decide how to bracket them.
-
vaguely as of right now haha - SBAC these next two weeks and an author study, after that we have one unit left
-
I am finding that my students are winding down during math
-
Q2: What are you doing to keep your students motivated for the rest of the school year?
-
Oh this is SO fun -- now to get it started...brain is SPINNING!
-
A2: Now I am trying all the ideas from ! Outdoor reading, may madness, maybe even some
-
really motivated them to read. They LOVE new books
-
wait what did I miss here?
-
spring fever in full effect! Build in those movement breaks and take class outside when you can.
-
My kids do too! I gave two girls 2 books I read over break that I KNEW they would like - they are hooked - SO fun!
-
We had to learn about China history. I told them to figure it out and present!
-
I'd love to do this with all the picture books we've read this year -- to find our favorite
-
A2: We made TBR lists last week! One way to motivate reading.
-
Our last unit is going to be immigration -- going to find a hands on way for kids to study it - they need to be their own detectives
-
yessir! and I are pretty big kookoo kangaroo fans 😂😂😂
-
My students are creating a play about the Erie Canal. They are so siked about it.
-
-
Umm...Yes!! LOVE !! We nearly went to their concert last year!
-
My FAV is the new Milkshake - I can't help but get a HUGE smile on my face

-
Q3: How do you strengthen student engagement post SBAC classroom!?
-
HO How long are these activities!
-
A3 our SBAC is first week in June
-
We don't have much patience for the Yoga - even tho I DO like..lost his name
-
-
Anywhere from 1min - 15 min Check it out!
-
Really!? Wow...that seems so late!
-
Wait did you say June?????????
-
Yup..we are last in our district
-
Yup. We have MAPS testing first.
-
A3: Ours is the 1st two weeks of May we'll have field day and I'm thinking student projects to finish...that will hopefully motivate
-
-
Wow....how do you feel about that? When is your last day of school?
-
June 17th? Idk, never gave to 3rd graders. We'll see. don't like MAPs is so early as is used for eval
-
Wow...Never heard of MAPs...we don't have those...that's crazy...
-
A3: I am shaking up the classroom and asking the Ss to participate in the change. It is re-engaging them.
-
A3: We are building a little free library these next two weeks - hands on engagement after long periods of sitting!
-
NWEA - standardized testing..used for our IAGD
-
Wow...I find it fascinating to hear how different each district uses their evaluations...ours are fluff
-
I will be doing more brain breaks with and more mindfulness breaks
-
A colleague of mine did that. It took off. They created a whole system for checking out books
-
Oh, ours are not. They are a lot of work
-
What are mindfulness breaks?
-
awesome! I will be posting as our project comes along
-
We practice breathing through mindfulness (meditation). Ss love it. Usually after a brain break. Calms the mind.
-
Personally, I wish there was a bit more too them...is that crazy to say?
-
No. You work hard and want it to show. . We have 3 IAGDs
-
we are departmentalized, Im reading writing and SS this year!
-
I think we now have two? One standardized one non-standardized
-
-
Some days it's SO frustrating, but whateves...I can only control me so I choose to do my BEST!
-
Departmentalization is the besting ever
-
