Welcome to #ATchat. Our topic tonight is Let’s Talk PD, both as a participant and providing it. Looking forward to this topic as it covers all aspects of what we do as educators!
The first half hour tonight will focus on PD experiences you have enjoyed this year. The last half hour will focus on PD you have delivered this year #ATchat
Hey Karen! Had a great time at #EdcampXSBoston this past weekend. So much learning and sharing happened. And it only took 5 hours to get home :) #Atchat
A1: I just went to a Lively Letters with a SPED teacher I work with. They had great videos that were very clear. They included some adults doing the tasks so you could really see the procedures clearly. #ATchat
I NEED YOUR HELP! I am preparing for an upcoming session on Building AT Capacity. Leave a @flipgrid video and tell us about your team: https://t.co/iyBVpoGPG8#ATchat
Going to PiAcademy in June, Scratch conference in July, hopefully if I raise the $ in my gofundme- Pathfinders Maker Collective in July and edcampCT in Aug #atchat
A 1 On 5/3 I went to #EdCampXSBoston, and that was awesome.
Also in my school, I helped teach a blended learning class that teachers really enjoyed. #atchat I am going to a Google level 2 Bootcamp in late July.
A1 I'm heading to #TCRWP in NYC in 2 weeks to attend the Digital Literacy Institute with @MisterMinor among others. It's an amazing opportunity to connect with great minds and learn how to improve and expand how we teach literacy. #atchat
A1: Kim, SLP from Norton MA late to the party! To narrow down my fave PDs this year has to be @masscue/@mascd Fall & Spring Conference, @DLDMedfield, SLP/SPEDSIG meetings and a variety of EdCamps! #ATchat
A1: I feel like I learn every day. So much out there. I also love Ted Talks, Freakonomics podcasts. But my FAVORITE learning is dialog with people doing amazing work in schools! #atchat
This was on using feedback to support student achievement and we were asked to share artifacts that showed how we provide feedback in a gallery walk. Great to see how everyone had been applying what was focused on all year. #atchat
A1: EdCamps are often my favorite& I haven’t gotten to any this year. Looking forward to #ISAAC18 in July! Great opportunities there to learn from people who use AAC. #ATchat

We have multiple sites throughout state AT specialists go to and then we do a statewide google hangout. Have a variety of presenters with breakout sessions for local teams #ATchat
A2: Our AT team is doing the AT Consideration training with Infinitec and it has helped to have our group do this together and create a plan together- increases dialogue and we will be doing different PD things next year #atchat
A2 I have really dived deep into Cultural Responsive Teaching this year and it has really helped me consider how it is a part of UDL-we can't use a one sized fits all approach to education. Also much more aware of not projecting my own cultural expectations on others. #atchat
A2: I have a more organized list of go-to apps & ext to try w/ Ss which makes trials much more focused & streamlined. @Flipgrid was a game changer & it has changed the way I become informed of what my Ss know, feel & think/wonder. It helps me meet them where the’re at. #ATchat
Sorry, I misread the question. We did a PD on safety trading and how to handle an intruder. It made me realize how vulnerable my kids are and that led to a great interactive unit on safety. Of course I used Storythat to help with comprehension. #Atchat

It’s in Australia! I like ISAAC most for the mix of research, practice & the strand where people who use AAC speak about their experiences & challenges, which is the particular thing it tends to do better than ATIA. #ATchat
A2: I watched Yapp Guru Univerity's AAC PDs in the fall. I learned about the Communication Sampling Analysis software. The visuals it provides has been a game changer for AAC evals. I feel like the graphs really help parents understand. #ATchat
CAST had a good webinar that touched on this about a month ago. I hadn’t thought of examining bias & other elements of CRT as UDL but it really does work just fine within the framework. #ATchat
Some is like what we did last year when I came out to KS. Now I am starting to work w/teams in MI. Full year, hybrid training w/ lots of coaching #Atchat
A2– By using Storythat and we also did a story with Pictello, my students were able to engage and participate in the lesson. I used actual photos of them and inserted into Pictello. Much more meaningful. #ATchat
They put together a number of great sessions in that. The one by Vicki Clarke & Jenna Coyer helped me think about better ways to teach my grad students about AAC evals. #ATchat
Absolutely. They love the visuals and they love interacting with their iPads and being able to demonstrate their work. Just wish we have AT PDs. #ATchat
A3 Most of mine are not AT- been working on the makerspace stuff and really believe what Beth @lloydcrew told me- kids lose their labels when they come into her space. Working to make mine be fun, educational and welcoming to all #atchat
A3Executive Functioning- Need to teach skills we did not realize need to be taught. There has been a reduction in units you can remember from 7 at a time to 3 for Ss. Impacts what we do #atchat
Absolutely. They love the visuals and they love interacting with their iPads and being able to demonstrate their work. Just wish we have AT PDs. #ATchat
A3 Our district his doing a lot of target based standards. Knowing what the kids are gonna be focusing on allows me to tailor assistive Tech to their needs. #ATchat
A3 I went to MassCUE Spring Conference, and I learned how to lead like a pirate. It taught me that there are a lot of other educators with the same risk-taking ideas that I have. This makes me more will to try new things. #atchat

A3: I partic’d in/co-lead online/TwitterChat Book Study on Dr. Ross Greene’s book: Lost At School. It’s about Collab Problem Solving model 4 working w Ss w/ challenging behavior. Focuses on id’ing lagging skills & explicit building skills as w other develop challenges. #ATchat
A3: I went to an interesting conference session on relationship building w/clients & helping support change. There was a lot about coaching models that AT thinks a lot about but most SLPs don’t think about in the same way. #ATchat
A3: I would highly recommend The Massachusetts Conference for Women in Boston in December. Focus on women in business, but lots of great sessions geared towards that ellusive work/life balance ! @MassWomen#atchat
A3 most of the PD I attended this year was not AT focused. Lots on cultural proficiency and on feedback. Also on how to be an Assistant Principal But it all applied to supporting students! #winwin#newAP#atchat
Sorry - but what is CRT? I am sooo bad at acronyms. I sat thru a presentation from lawyer on OCR wondering why she was talking about scanning- office of civil rights did not cross my mind. #atchat

I’m always trying to find new ways to get out information regarding AT. I haven’t presented, but I worked with a teacher and was able to help with apps, Google and computer software #ATchat
I do an AT Consideration training where we do a mock SETT and then break the group up into teams to do their own mock SETT. Goes very well every time and people love practicing a new skill #atchat
A4: Hands on learning (everybody gets to practice with the devices, 1:1 when possible) and reinforcement (candy, nail polish parties to practice AAC, whatever works). #ATchat
A4 Audience participation--get them actively learning, and facilitate discussion between participants. Good instruction for students is usually good instruction for adults #guideontheside vs #sageonthestage#atchat
For sure! Plus I have been adding in some time for personal / small group reflection. Give people time to figure out how to make this part of their practice #ATchat
A4: Meaningful & relevant PD is the only PD. PD opportunities with lots of choice, hands on playground experiences and inclusive of student voice is essential. #ATchat
I do a lot of integration. It is about what I will get others to try. It is more about branding the ideas that you already have. This year I have starting using Sphero, OverDrive and green screens. #atchat

A4- At the conclusion, give people the opportunity to share what one strategy, idea, tool, etc they will implement during the next week. Helps to hold participants accountable. #ATchat
A4: New one I've started. I record video of any demo. I play the video during my presentation. I can stop the video, rewind it, add emphasis. Been working great so far. #atchat
My upcoming ISAAC presentation is all about hands on ideas for teaching AAC. I’ve been collecting & have tried out a bunch, both high & low/no tech. Modeling seems to need hands on for people to understand. #ATchat
For some trainings-it is part of the training so I get most to do it. I will provide shared Google foldder for all projects. That way everyone can benefit from all of them #ATchat
A4: New one I've started. I record video of any demo. I play the video during my presentation. I can stop the video, rewind it, add emphasis. Been working great so far. #atchat
A5: I have started to include fillable hand outs that they can take away simple ideas personalized to their student(s) from the presentation and use them later. #ATchat
I have a couple videos I use this same way. I was surprised at how effective it was. Started out because I forgot my iPad-so I showed vid of app! #ATchat
I do. I'll set up a tripod for filming hardware or do a screen cap for software & then just do the demo. I'll stop it and ask questions, point things out, rewind & show the magic again. Whatever it takes. #atchat
A5: Like any authentic learning experience, the teacher and the learner share the talking and the listening. Less lecture, more tangible examples, more hands on, interactive, playful, creative, problem solving activities to make the learning & transfer post PD seamless! #ATchat
It's kinda like running a telestrader for your own demo! Also helps make sure I don't have tech issues during the demo. . . unless the video fails. #atchat
I’ve started using Google folders for class projects & a bunch of my grad students have told me they appreciate the access to each other’s projects. Great way to build capacity with materials. Not everyone has to recreate that adapted book. #ATchat
It also helps me remember to be extra descriptive with the video for those who may be visually impaired or just not sure what the heck is going on. #atchat
We just did this in my Masters class. Everyone had to create a low tech AT tool. They had to create a "Commercial" and post it to the Google Folder. Now they all have access to them #ATchat
A5 I am more passionate when I talk! I understand that explaining WHY people should use technology is always important. No matter what you are teaching it is always about how it will affect people. #atchat
Yep, they have the LMS Access while they’re enrolled in the class, but the Google folders live on & give them start up materials when they get their first jobs. Students asked for access to each other’s projects & it was easy enough. #ATchat
A5: I've embraced getting away from the podium. I try to be more engaging. Moving out to the audience & being less of a talking head. Influences? @larrywilmore from The Nightly Show, @altonbrown, & @TheRock#atchat
A6: I find it so valuable to have all the presentation materials on a Google Site that is available after the training ends. Gives them a place to gather and share info #ATchat
A6: We did a UDL training and created a OneNote to contain all presentations, resources, etc. Had a idea share section where OT/PT/SLPs put photos of themselves using UDL with students #ATchat
A6: Don't cover "The World." Find a few clear learning objectives, state them, call them back as you hit them, ask the audience if you're hitting the points, and show them how you're hitting the points.
#atchat
A6: I have paid more attention to the WHY- why this information is important & why they should learn it. That book on Stickiness helped me see that WHY is just as important as WHAT. #ATchat
Especially if you have people in the room who are just trying to get their hours or were told to be there, being clear about the why can get them involved earlier. #ATchat
