A1: Hello, I'm Erin from Frisco, TX. I've been using @Seesaw for a little over a year now. I learned about it from my Kindergartner's class. I teach 6th and 8th grade Gifted and Talented kiddos. #Seesawchat
It's time for #seesawchat! The first question will be coming your way soon. Be sure to start a new tweet and answer with A1, A2, and so on, and be sure to use the hashtag! Follow @nimesys and @mrserinjewell who are our special guests today.
Hello everyone at #SeesawChat! I'm Sarah and I teach 3rd grade LA in OH. So happy to help moderate the chat about reflection and goal- setting with @mrseinjewell tonight!
A2: My students use @Seesaw at the end of each unit major-grade assignment and at the end of the unit. It's so much easier for kids to see their growth at the end of the unit because they have the "mementos" from the unit.
#seesawchat
A1: Hi #seesawchat friends! I’m Kara, a current #math7 and #math7plus teacher, and former 3rd-5th gr teacher from NC. Excited to learn from everyone today!
A1: Hello, Tracey from Phoenix. I teach tech/design thinking for K-4 and I am school admin for Seesaw PK-8th. This is 3rd year using Seesaw, 2nd year using Seesaw for Schools #seesawchat
Hey guys, I got stuck in a meeting and had set up a couple tweets before I left school just in case it happened. I was a little early on question two. ;)
#seesawchat@Seesaw
This year was AMAZING setting it up, because all of my 6th graders came in with a profile and knew how to use the app. I love using @seesaw in middle school. #seesawchat
A2: My students use @Seesaw at the end of each unit major-grade assignment and at the end of the unit. It's so much easier for kids to see their growth at the end of the unit because they have the "mementos" from the unit.
#seesawchat
A2: Ps, Ss and I comment on posts to help kids grow in their thinking. weekly kids take the time to view their inbox and respond to comments. New posts are made to clarify misconceptions, show new understanding and answer questions posed in comments from P, T or S. #seesawchat
A2: This is the first year that my teachers are using Seesaw school wide! I can’t wait to see how students are able to look back from year to year and see how they’ve grown! #seesawchat
A2 I often make comments and ask my sts questions about their posts. Many times they reply back with corrections to answers or higher level thinking strategies. #seesawchat
A2: I love when students record themselves reading a piece of their writing, then go back and read old ones to see how their skills have grown. #seesawchat
A2 looking back and listening to old reading fluency posts, taking time weekly to respond to comments and repost items to show new understandings #seesawchat
It’s happening!🎉I’m excited that my #math7plus Ss are adding their 1st items to their @DDMSBuzz Digital Portfolios. They created & curated in @Seesaw & embedded code directly from Seesaw OR saved to their Google Drive &uploaded to their site! #choice#voice#drivefwd#wonderwake
A2: To be honest, most of the teachers I work with have ventured into this yet with their students. I’m interested to see what others we doing! #seesawchat
Students have to be given the opportunity to look at the work they have done, reflect on it, and improve it. I always recommend looking at the work students have done and having them search for warm and cool feedback from their peers. #seesawchat
Q2: Students can use this activity to share a weekly reflection. Looking back at the week's posts can help jog their memories. #seesawchathttps://t.co/voAgmX6BMC
A2: our 1G-4G use @Seesaw to store work they are proud of and work they need to show growth early in the year. Usually in private folder until SLC time- then moved and reflection is recorded or written with growth ##seesawchat
Aww. Thanks! 😊 Our entire school is doing digital portfolios. I’m the only one using @Seesaw right now but hopeful to get others on board! We use @Seesaw weekly so “finding” what to put in them is no problem! #SeesawChat
In reply to
@amyattinger, @GoogleForEdu, @Seesaw, @Seesaw, @Seesaw
A2: I have Seesaw setting so that all students can see everyone's work. Students often go into Seesaw to look and sometimes listen to other student's work. #seesawchat
A3: Honestly, I like to go in and just make comments on their posts. It's simple, but it makes a huge impact. It's also a nice way to have dialogue with parents, too, about their kid's goals. #seesawchat
A3b When kids are excited about reading, I tell them to makes a Seesaw post about it! They love to share their learning because I am sure to to say, "That's awesome! Put it on your Seesaw journal!" #SeesawChat
A2: our 6th-8th don’t use @Seesaw for reflections as much- maybe if a private teacher/student folder is created (with no parent access). Until then- google classroom and slides is where older kids prep for slcs and do reflections #seesawchat
A3 I have sts take pictures or videos of work they are proud of. They love to show mom/dad! Sometimes I take a pic of them w/ their work. Big smiles say it all! #SeesawChat
A2: Sometimes the assignment might be hard for them, they can look at the work that was done and learn from it. They can redo their work. That shows growth and reflection. #seesawchat
A2: we use our previous posts, and use the Copy & Edit feature to make changes to our posts as we learn. We use Seesaw to post math explanations a lot, and I see TREMENDOUS growth in their math talk throughout the year! #SeesawChat
A1- Rebekah Sandlin, Harlingen High School South, deep in South Texas! I’m an English Teacher currently pursuing my masters in Library Science. #SeesawChat
A3: Regular comments on student entries help celebrate day-day accomplishments. But, this year (@seesaw year 4!!) I’ve stepped up my game...and have had fabulous feedback!🎉🎉 https://t.co/H2v74nsPuc#seesawchat
🎉#Bravo! 2 Ss from each #math7 & #math7plus class got a special message from me sent to families through @Seesaw’s messages complimenting them on something they excelled in this week. Puts a😊on my face to share. {#families appreciate it, too!~even in #middleschool} #drivefwd
Yes! The parents AND kids are so happy to see work that they should be proud of. Kids LOVE to see parents liking their posts and even leaving comments. #seesawchat
A3: Parents make comments on it. I make comment on it. Students in the class make comments on it. It makes them proud to be able to produce work that other students like. #seesawchat
A3: As an Instruc. Tech. Specialist, I love going into Seesaw to see the different classes I work with and commenting on student work. I love making connections even though I’m not in their classroom everyday! #seesawchat
A2- My students just started using this app but I’m going to have them go back and read their previous reflections and writing pieces in their journals to see how their responses have improved. I love that everything is at their finger tips like a digital portfolio. #seesawchat
A3: Teachers providing modeling for comments with 2 glows and a grow plus the use of the use of the WOW folder!! As part of our digital portfolio initiative, we discuss reflection often. #SeesawChat
Always happy to share, Brenda! 😊😊Borrow away! Another teacher friend used note cards and I loved that...but with 98% of my middle school families connected, I wanted to use @Seesaw to deliver a written and short audio message to everyone! #seesawchat
A3: Anytime you have your S’s answers in a digital portfolio it makes it easy to celebrate their accomplishments. It gives you an avenue to share their work with their peers and show what they did to make them successful. Using student comments peers can celebrate too #seesawchat
🎉#Bravo! 2 Ss from each #math7 & #math7plus class got a special message from me sent to families through @Seesaw’s messages complimenting them on something they excelled in this week. Puts a😊on my face to share. {#families appreciate it, too!~even in #middleschool} #drivefwd
A4: Ss use Seesaw to show WOW work, work that shows they learn and understand our skills and strategies learned in class. We look back at Seesaw during conferences to show areas of strength and weakness #SeesawChat
Created this activity to use this year. Ps can see some reflection BEFORE conferences to help guide conversation in the short amount of time we have to chat. #seesawchathttps://t.co/KyP6v0zUUh
A4: It is easier for kids to talk about what they are doing in class when they can show ACTUAL products of what they've done and how it supports their learning. It's huge with middle-schoolers, even in more informal conferencing situations. #seesawchat@seesaw
A3: I like going in to post comments and give students praise. I show my classes what others have done in my classes to promote their work so students feel proud that I’m showing off their work. “Look what this student created! It’s awesome!” #seesawchat
a4: Using @Seesaw makes conferences so much easier. The learning is transparent and the conversation has already started before parents even arrive. #SeesawChat
@RebekahSandlin1 Reading Reflections before they start their independent reading and then after?? Or even before they start the book and then after. #seesawchat
I always love to show off @Seesaw to those hesitant parents that think it's just "one more thing" to keep up with... after conferences they become some of my most involved parents on the site! #SeesawChat
A4: Students can actually lead the parent teacher conference. If the students have access to their work they can use it to highlight the work they have done thus far in the year. They can also use this to show growth from the start of the year. #seesawchat
A4- Just started using this so I haven’t had a conference yet but I think having their work in an organized area is a great way to show parents and students how students have been successful in the class and have participated in TRUE learning. #seesawchat
A2 they go back and look at the writing they posted and can see how they achieved their goal. It’s great way to see how their effort gives results. #seesawchat
A4: Parents who are connected to their child’s account are able to come to conferences already knowing how their child is doing. The conference now can focus on the next steps to help in the growth of their child. #seesawchat
A3 I use it to celebrate their wow work and also their social emotional growth. I love to show parents that we concentrate on more than just academics. #seesawchat
A4: It is a little hard to use Seesaw as Student Led Conferences at the beginning of the year, but it is possible at the end of the year. I use it to show the parents of their child's work. #seesawchat
Absolutely!!! Most of my parents truly appreciate seeing how their child perform in my class and during PTC we talk more on how we can improve those skills #seesawchat
A4: I love that Seesaw provides the breaking down of barriers between home and the classroom. Parents are able to walk into conferences with prior knowledge of what their child is doing instead of being surprised by it 9 weeks into school. #seesawchat
A5: I use this weekly to plan my small groups and reading conferences. Based on the Ss goals, I tailor my week to their needs. #SeesawChathttps://t.co/3TzCGrW8hF
A4: In middle school we don’t have formal parent or Student Led conferences...but when formerly teaching 4th gr we used student selected @Seesaw entries as set future goals with their parents. https://t.co/GAgcRUd9bI#seesawchat
A5: I use this weekly to plan my small groups and reading conferences. Based on the Ss goals, I tailor my week to their needs. #SeesawChathttps://t.co/3TzCGrW8hF
A5- We did this today as a follow up on the reading. I got the template from the activity library. I think graphic organizers work well for goal setting/ reflection #seesawchat thank you to whoever created this template 🙌🏼
Absolutely! Seesaw has been very life chanhing for me as a teacher sadly that its hard to influence my colleagues despit my PD :( #seesawchat maybe there’s a gap with what im doing
A5: Having students share some of their goals through @Seesaw so that during the week their team (peers) can help them to reach those goals. The more people you have supporting you the easier your goals are to attain! #seesawchat
A4: Another idea: You can display the QR codes with their best work (that’s hidden in the “Sample Student” folder) and have parents scan it while they wait for their conference. #seesawchat
A5: I used goal setting with my 6th graders in conjunction with @khanacademy 's #learnstorm. It was a nice place to SAVE their goal and a way to reference it. I added a SMART aspect to make the goals more objective/obtainable. #seesawchat@seesaw
Joining #seesawchat a little late. My name is Lauren, I’m an instructional technology coach in San Diego and Seesaw is one of my favorite tools to share with teachers!
Update your Seesaw app! Our latest update helps teachers get comfortable using Seesaw before introducing it to students. Now, teachers can use the Sample Student to try Seesaw without signing out of their Teacher Account. https://t.co/RTgmhesmFP#seesawchat
One thing that helped to get other teachers on board at my school was the parent feedback. I started it in my room last year and other Ps were asking their kids' teachers if they will use Seesaw too! #SeesawChat

A6: I'm trying to have my students do more of the work in @Seesaw than me. Last year I was big into downloading videos from other apps and putting them into @seesaw. If kids want that now, they need to be the ones doing the work. #Seesawchat@Seesaw
A6: Also, I'm trying to be more mindful of using @seesaw more often. In the past I've waited too long to do unit-reflections, and the answers are not as honest/helpful if kids are just looking at surface-level reflection. #seesawchat
A5: We use @Seesaw to reflect on Notice and Note reading strategies. I share short Pixar videos that highlight the strategy and students reflect and comment. This is one of my favorites. https://t.co/9HkZmulGeU#seesawchat
A5: There is real power in letting Ss choose their reflection tool. It may be @Seesaw media tools, a Book Snap, a @Buncee an iMovie they created, etc...with Seesaw being the place it is shared. Student Choice! #seesawchat
A5: I like the students to reflect on their reading. I do it toward the end of first grade when a lot of my students are reading. So, I have them listen to another student's reading and check for reading fluency. Did the student read with expression, etc.? #seesawchat
A6: Love the new sample student feature! Now I have two! I have always used a sample student to "test" out activities! Thanks for knowing teachers! #seesawchat!
#seesawchat A6: I am currently working on using Seesaw as a reflection tool in a STEAM pilot with TK/K teachers so I’m excited to see everything that was shared today!
A6b: Not all kids learn or want to share their learning in the same way. I love that Seesaw allows choice and a platform to show their understanding
#SeesawChat
A4: we use @seesaw in so many ways for SLCs in 1G-4G. Behavior reflection. Academic reflection. One for each content area. Kids sit with Seesaw w/ folder titled ‘SLCs’ and go through with parents. #studentownership But...cont A4.2 #SeesawChat
A6 As a HS Librarian I see my campus as my classroom. Goals: get teachers on board, Engage students, develop reading culture. We’ve started a small fire @RebekahSandlin1! Let’s continue it! #SeesawChat
That’s the new strategy km@looking into now.. i’ve got two who will be starting and i’ll be mentoring by Nov.. yey!!! Thanks for the encouragement #seesawchat
A5: My favorite goal setting activity is having the students take a picture of them self and then add their school goal and their personal goal. #seesawchat
Make sure to celebrate everything they are doing. And make sure that you are sharing everything they are doing and how it is successful. People need to see it working to change. #Seesawchat
@RebekahSandlin1 We can do this! So much more fun than Reading Logs! Then throw in some incentives from the library... @xtina0137 We need to start up @Seesaw again!! #seesawchat
A5: There is real power in letting Ss choose their reflection tool. It may be @Seesaw media tools, a Book Snap, a @Buncee an iMovie they created, etc...with Seesaw being the place it is shared. Student Choice! #seesawchat
A6- My goal is to make students more engaged in the readings of American Literature. I also want to use seesaw more to promote a reading culture in my classes and try to get other teachers to use this amazing app! #seesawchat@fgar12@Coach_Esquivel I’m coming for you 😈
A4.2 for student led conferences- so important for @Seesaw to create a ‘private teacher/student’ folder for Ts and Ss to share work back and forth or for reflections before SLCs. That would be a game changer for all Ss up through 8th grade #seesawchat
