Most of the new ideas in my school are born out of need and/or introduction to new information/ideas from research.
NOW Topic: Where do the new ideas come from in the school in which you work? How can that innovation be supported?
What's the topic this Tuesday?
Looking forward to this. We'll be be presenting a workshop: 'Optimising Spaces for Acoustics and Inclusion' https://t.co/3Go0ozQSZ6
I put together this blog and created the middle school ELA assignment. Let me know what you think!
blog https://t.co/Gxf5uuWtg2
It depends on what you mean by new ideas Mark
A new field trip this year was born out of a child's request and comments last year--we try to let our Ss lead us.
Innovation usually is through instructional problems that exist as well as new and emerging tech trends. $$ - grants.
THANK YOU FOR JOINING Topic: Where do the new ideas come from in the school in which you work? How can that innovation be supported?
There is so much power in networking!
Hi ! I’m a lifelong educator, literacy champion and researcher for .
Yes it does Claire... so what does 'new ideas' mean to you?
Where do new ideas for school come from? How do you give them life?
I put together this blog + created the middle school ELA assignment. Let me know what you think!
https://t.co/oKpkxKIAIx
What do you mean by "new ideas" Miss Sig?
Okay... how's that working for you? Students? For field of education?
In my exp. new ideas come from teachers who are willing to be vulnerable, willing to be uncomfortable and willing to experiment.
New to me means things that I can use in my classroom that my students want to use, hence engagement
Good evening Cheryl -> Welcome to
Absolutely, Christian. I read about "living systems" last night and networking/connectivity a big part of that.
LET’S GET SERIOUS…better tests, standards, or technologies are not shake education to its core innovations…just refinements.
catalysts, lead teachers, collaboration just to name a few
Good evening -> Welcome to
So true--also new discoveries outside of ed can lead innovation inside of ed.
Putting on their thinking caps!
IMO, Ts innovation is best supported w/ real-time coaching, space to make mistakes & opps to share learnings w/ colleagues.
I want to read, David, since we're headed in that direction.

Deighan, what's a new idea in your school that you're excited about?
Indeed, often the case... so how's that working for the field of education? Your school? You? Welcome to
Hi! It is Sheryl. Will be in and out of this conversation but looking forward to the co-construction of knowledge!
I'm really excited about the potential our work with cultural proficient teaching holds for better communities.
IN PROGRESS NOW Topic: Where do the new ideas come from in the school in which you work? How can that innovation be supported?
How are you "Dealing w/ the Marginal Employee" - Join Us tonight as we
Maria, Student Teacher from PA! PLCs are a great way for Ts to collaborate on new things and step out of their comfort zones
I like that and concur--that gets all of us excited about learning.
New ideas come from people who remain relevant. Every school should have a method for firlding new ideas from staff!
New thing our district did was met with a few local elem schools for PD. Various Ts from different schools shared. Very beneficial!
Hi Jess hope you are having a terrific Tuesday! I love the title "literacy champion"
https://t.co/iSIW9m16aZ
Hi ! I’m a lifelong educator, literacy champion and researcher for .
Great article I was reading that earlier myself!
new ideas come from collaboration & research. make a difference. This group for instance.
Hey All, Jeremey from W Michigan, HS Env Sci and Biology. Rested from SB and ready to finish strong w SS https://t.co/2awwG81qiZ
New ideas spring from being part of these rock concerts. Thanks !! https://t.co/RjGZ0RUgJ3
IN PROGRESS NOW Topic: Where do the new ideas come from in the school in which you work? How can that innovation be supported?
Yes, innovation takes time and support. I want to better relay teaching about brain science/mindset.
Innovation often comes from Ts dealing with most needy Ss populations. But any innovator needs TIME to explore. PD tied to ideas!
there's a lot of individual work that goes on at my school. Not a lot of sharing. Pretty sad. Very low morale.
New ideas often come from everyone. Can be supported by offering places to provide innovations, such as social media.
never underestimate the power of talking to others about what you're doing. Discussion generates ideas.
Kevin a Teaching Principal in a small rural Irish Primary school
INNOVATION \ˌi-nə-ˈvā-shən\ a new idea, device, or method, the act or process of introducing new ideas, devices, or methods
Love the idea of rock concert--agree I get so many ideas through this chat and others.
Love the idea of rock concert--agree I get so many ideas through this chat and others.
Agree Melissa-- book, Mathematical Mindsets, has been a rich resource of new ideas for me this year.
WHAT IS EDUCATIONAL INNOVATION? Teachers try different pedagogical approaches? I’m holding out hope for more than that…you?
He's the lead singer and frontman --> for rock band.
Great idea--creates nice sharing, invigorates.
New Ideas come from engaged educators! Things we read, shared stories, connections beyond the CR!
New ideas ... can come from any where ... teachers just need to be brave enough to share ... sharing is NOT bragging.
Connecting & sharing has greatly increased exposure to (& willingness to embrace) new ideas in our bldng. https://t.co/OFNKNtxVU4
new ideas come from collaboration & research. make a difference. This group for instance.
sometimes you just have to have a go & see what happens. Take a risk.
GETTING FROM WHERE WE ARE to where we want to be either requires more of the same or something new…which one?
I'm a big fan of idea systems--have learned about it, very powerful.
innovative ideas come from vertically motivated individuals whom struggle to find reason or room in the public sector
Good evening Kevin welcome to ALL STARS of Have you met ->

sometimes you just have to have a go & see what happens. Take a risk.
I find that to be true, Maria. At our PLC we really make positive change and growth.
Fantastic outlook. Could apply to all walks of life. https://t.co/Or4ZgArrv1
In my exp. new ideas come from teachers who are willing to be vulnerable, willing to be uncomfortable and willing to experiment.
I am not chasing the innovation bandwagon ... I just look for what my kids will be engaged by ... inspired
Innovation may include various credentialing methods. More ways to gauge learning than simply a GPA.
MUST IMPACT BE MEASURED before a practice, approach, and so on is declared to be an innovation?
So true Jordan, our struggles and yearning birth new ideas
Well said. You can't have engaged students unless educators are engaged as well.
¨Those who have a visión of what teaching should be have a responsibility to bring out the best in every individual¨E. Roosevelt
SIMPLE TRUTH: Good things result from teachers talking with teachers abiyt teaching.
New ideas also need champions! Leaders willing to leap. Not blindly, but boldly!
For some, having engaged student IS an innovation.
it has been amazing to watch Ts open to sharing and growing as a team! ALL Ss are OUR Ss
Could be both. Could be the same w/ a twist that makes it new, but also better.
Cool... how's that working for you?
And throughout the nation, our State is embracing so many ideas/constructs we've been discussing & using on social media
New ideas come from people who remain relevant. Every school should have a method for finding new ideas from staff!
Great words. We have to make more time to share our vision.
Great words. We have to make more time to share our vision.
Innovation for the sake of innovation not best way to go. Innovation must address a need or provide solution. Must fit the culture.
CURIOUS…how much innovation has resulted from all the money that’s been spent on innovation grants? I doubt very much. Why not?
IF TEACHERS BARELY HAVE TIME TO GO TO THE BATHROOM where will the time come from for them to innovate education?
By my way of thinking A SHIFT IN THINKING IS NOT AN INNOVATION. Innovation is a shift in doing. Agree?
What are some of the best ways to integrate technology in the middle grades Science classroom?
and that Dennis sad to say, in this day and age, is innovative.
And leaders willing to LEAD. Instructional leadership is key to innovation.
Amen. The power of professional conversation is immense. https://t.co/qj4Zx3ShfT
SIMPLE TRUTH: Good things result from teachers talking with teachers abiyt teaching.
Not always, I like the way Boaler's book discusses the role of intuition and how that can be very powerful.
That's key Dennis--don't do innovation for innovation sake--do what's best for your Ss.
had the best video, great for Ts. One of his quotes "A high average is still average." fits
Why is it so difficult for the field of education to innovate? MIGHT WE BE THE PROBLEM THAT MUST BE SOLVED?
Would love to include digital portfolios when placing Ss into college. More than an entrance exam. https://t.co/7gJIXg40qv
Cool... how's that working for you?
TED_ED: Wrapping up Q3, on to Q4

We find that our students engage more if they take an active role in their learning.
Yes, which leads to the question how can we better use time in school to effect positive, engaging culture.
In so many schools, T's don't have the chance to simply share best practices and thus foster innovation.
READY 1...2…3 INNOVATE. Nah, it doesn’t happen that way, does it?
couch in my classroom not revolutionary ... having kids create as they learn not innovative (that's old school)
All living things are designed to change; if something stops changing, it's probably dead.
In education, a TS is hired in one place and stays...In business, innovation is the key to movement and advancement.
I think it really takes a team effort where everyone has voice, everyone works w/children.
Hi Mark. It's Deb Aubin here. I agree innovation is a shift in doing.Sometimes this shift is done best in baby steps.
Collecting, analyzing, presenting data is one way.
YES it is!!! It takes time and dedication though and therein lies the problem!
It's difficult to innovate b/c our education system still follows the factory model...
Innovation may emerge from quality instruction. Something "innovative" may simply be novel rather than effective. Ts can be tricked.
Sometimes grants meet bureaucracy--that can stifle the grant's intention.
I'm starting to think that innovation is more about small tweaks than it is about overhauling
🚨Excellent resource alert!🚨
https://t.co/vX37WbBpCu
folks at are doing great work; check 'em out for their resources!
WANT EDUCATIONAL INNOVATION? Spend time in classrooms not boardrooms or central offices. Look at how things are, ask why not…
Think about this: TEACHERS WHO BARELY HAVE TIME TO GO TO THE BATHROOM do not have time innovate education.
Also time and support is sometimes lacking for grants.
what do you think is the best way to promote innovation in your classroom?
I think is critical for innovation. Ts need this mindset as much as Ss.
Antoni Verger lays out ed privatization's explosive growth globally. Panel is being videotaped https://t.co/yBzb1gEdOw
need to think about what is the desirable outcome. What should Ss be able to do/understand?
Agree David. Context plays a very important role in education.
Ken insight here... Thanks David ->
Are we sure about that? Innovation in education has so many barriers...dedicated Ts? Plenty of those
Virtual reading logs: Google Forms as an iPad bookmark? What do you use?
Thank you to for another gr8 day of . There is almost nothing has not thought of or can't do
And I think also remembering that growth doesn't happen all at once. A reminder for me to be more patient!
We can use time better in schools--this will make a BIG difference.
Our thoughts on innovation in schools are often too wrapped-up in tech.
Innovation gains traction when admins are at the forefront or at least within the group that's exploring innovative approaches.
engagement starts with interest ... thirst for knowledge ... How did Socrates do it without tech?
Those small tweaks can be so rewarding, but sometimes we need to remove boulders too.
Swings? Those pendulum ball toys?
School leaders set the tone for innovation. If leader models & willingness to try new things, T's tend to be empowered.
I think you have to try an innovation then listen to your Ss to tweak it and make it work
I definitely agree. What steps can we take to start doing this?
Agree Catherine, patience is important and so is trusting oneself.
Positive, strong leaders definitely make all the difference! https://t.co/MFVJ4rqy27
School leaders set the tone for innovation. If leader models & willingness to try new things, T's tend to be empowered.
We're a collaborative team, not just w/in depts, schools, or districts. All teachers! https://t.co/Q1COSVHsqD
it has been amazing to watch Ts open to sharing and growing as a team! ALL Ss are OUR Ss
Schools (as living, breathing ecosystems) might benefit more from the removal of an "invasive species" than from adding tech.
actively doing the learning is the best way ... is it just a search for answers?
Agreed! But I think we shouldn't be caught up in the idea that innovation means huge revolutions or changes
I usually introduce something to my kids by saying, "I saw the coolest thing online last night".
"We are all teachers, I learn from, you learn from me."
Listen to Ss. Watch Ss. Follow in to where they are stuck/curious/excited. Lather rinse repeat.
This is so important! Critical. Our school's service learning program is successful because of admin. support/leadership.
Feels that way,but there are teachers who spend their spare time to research, advocate &implement innovation https://t.co/ePH5B84n1T
Think about this: TEACHERS WHO BARELY HAVE TIME TO GO TO THE BATHROOM do not have time innovate education.
In education, THERE'S A VERY GOOD CHANCE that what we call innovation will not be innovative or impactful...
it comes down to having a go. Try it & see what happens. Ss trust their teachers. We need to give them more credit.
I'm thinking I may want to do this more in class. See where it takes my kids.
Agree. The best changes often begin small.
I teach & so innovation altered what & how I teach & my expectations w/ students-I've evolved analog to digital in class
WANT EDUCATIONAL INNOVATION? Provide teachers time to think, talk, share…
The move from isolation to team is so powerful, I LOVE what we can do as a team.
In order to be called an innovation must it reach some semblance of scale? Be durable? Have impact? Just asking...
Ss really appreciate when you bring big, wonderful ideas of the real world to class.
Innovation in schools is a trend, but it starts from the top. make a difference. Innovation needs support.
When Ts focus on instructional excellence & Ss deep learning, innovation is, at times, a natural byproduct. They don't have to try.
So true, yet sometimes there's space for old fashion learning too.
customizing for students is important ... starts with that relationship ... must KNOW them
Agreed Time for reflection, time for peer observation, time for thinking. https://t.co/mqsFmGJ04w
WANT EDUCATIONAL INNOVATION? Provide teachers time to think, talk, share…
Best ideas come from the students!
I like to mix it up--works well.
This seems preposterous. Research should provide insight! Why not researched based?
so might a small change not really be a change but simply a refinement?
Admin must get out of the and remove the locks so teachers can move freely.
Admins who model what's best about education = invaluable. https://t.co/YvxgETM9Wa
This is so important! Critical. Our school's service learning program is successful because of admin. support/leadership.
I guess the BIG important innovation for schools is to move from factory model to new models like Google.
Hi Everyone! Jumping in late! Kathy from CT grade 3
I absolutely agree that active learning doesn’t have to involve tech. Balance is key.
Dedication to should to Ss learning should be enough with an environment primed for innovation.
Maddie joining for the first time from Vermillion, South Dakota!
Autonomy, Mastery, and Purpose
In many instances, Ts need support of admin. They need admin to actually lead and teach and coach.
Helpful but Ts must also learn 2 take the bull by the horns & make that time happen. Can't afford 2b passive https://t.co/n1Fth6SGcC
WANT EDUCATIONAL INNOVATION? Provide teachers time to think, talk, share…
What is old fashioned learning? How does it look, sound, feel?
What matters is what keeps Ss engaged and excited about learning.
well then... what primes an environment for innovation?
So true Maddie. We have to give most of the voice time to Ss. Critical
Yes! Down w/ the factory model!
What role does FAILURE play in educational innovation?
Edison's D/C electrical network was new, but didn't penetrate, so just novel.
Welcome! Topic: Where do the new ideas come from in the sch in which you work? How can that innovation be supported?
I prefer teamwork to peer observation. If peer observation grows naturally out of teamwork, then I agree.
All of my new ideas come from the I follow on twitter! https://t.co/8NBe1JiUsl
JOIN NOW Topic: Where do the new ideas come from in the school in which you work? How can that innovation be supported?
Let's work some daylight-saving-time sorcery and magically give all teachers a 25th hour in the day.
To be considered an innovation, there must be impact on the learning process -- sustainable outcomes that change the stasis.
The effort here is finding support, getting materials, rethinking spaces and time as deep instruction often requires this.
PERFECT. I want this as a poster in my classroom
Ts need to feel safe to try on new things. Need to have respect and trust of admin.
Mark my STEAM Room is the first in Ireland. The Department of Education is interested and concerned
Stripping away the antiquated expectations of teaching & focusing on authentic, personal & collaborative learning as how I innovate
everyone learns from mistakes! Ss & Ts need to know it is ok to fail - keep trying! Something will work
perhaps time and place and purpose for each...
Principals have to give T’s permission to NOT “make it through the book.” Innovation and curric breadth are in conflict
Admin needs to model what they want to see in the classroom ... can't expect Admin to show you everything.
innovators should have open classroom policies where Ts can wander in & out to have a look at what's happening
I proudly stand in the shadow of Stacie ->
Absolutely. Another argument for admins role in innovation. https://t.co/0oqpEoryId
The effort here is finding support, getting materials, rethinking spaces and time as deep instruction often requires this.
So many great, innovative programs in our district come from strong partnerships with local businesses and nonprofits.
Innovation is regularly celebrated and often rewarded. Top SS comp celebrated. TS?
I’ve attempted to create a culture of trust so tchrs know it’s OK to try new things.
To what are you referring?
You have the power as an educator to be an innovator for change & implement ideas...you must fight for it https://t.co/cvWd0DJoLM
tech opens doors/expands horizons, but is not required to inspire.
Failure is key. We learn from failure. Good Ts reflect on even the best lessons and determine how to improve it. Same w/ Innovation.
Hi Nancy! Missed you the last couple of weeks
That doesn't surprise me, Nancy.
There are little and big innovations. Big ones displace, destabilize, disrupt… shake things up. In educ a time and place for both.
ALL-STAR participants in to
As T's we keep our goals upfront, right the ship if a new idea isn't working.
Mostly Gen ed biology, 18 years with at risk ss. I find this pop more willing to try new things.
we ask Ss to take risks with their work; we should too.
Popping in very late! Hello.
This year our building principal fully supported our new shared model of teaching at 5th--it's awesome.
Shouldn't conflate innovation with merely the "new." Accepted, proven practices can be innovative when applied in certain settings.
Agree, but the extent to which they can model or learn beside Ts, it's important. Instructional leadership, baby.
I think implementing 1:1 technology integration worldwide would be such a great movement. It could aid groundbreaking barriers
start small if needed. Change something you do and see if there's an impact. From little things, big things grow.
Yes! I was trying to figure out how to say this. Well said. Totally agree.
Today Ss began watching film about Walt Disney-quote, "There's a lot of failure on the road to success."
and so we must be risk takers and celebrate risk taking
Please complete a short survey on your experience with for a dissertation study for the Univ of Alabama. https://t.co/8HvKmbON9Z
Agreed. Best innovators fail more times than not. Key is their resilience in the face of failure. https://t.co/f1WgowFTEe
Failure is key. We learn from failure. Good Ts reflect on even the best lessons and determine how to improve it. Same w/ Innovation.
It can start from one educator lighting a fire in others the approaching admin, our school does this https://t.co/Jhg5wiURM4
Innovation in schools is a trend, but it starts from the top. make a difference. Innovation needs support.
See how educators in under-resourced schools use tech in : watch/tweet
The Eight Year Project was probably the last true innovation in education. https://t.co/zcuidPYcFM
In education, THERE'S A VERY GOOD CHANCE that what we call innovation will not be innovative or impactful...
how would you define "innovative" then?
Purposeful Parent Communication must also be culturally responsive, and T's have to be able to engage with P's through their lens
SEEKING TO INNOVATE?Workshops, exchanges, service, and outreach get you more of the same done better… So what to do?
Big innovations create chain reactions. Example car created need for gas stations, roads, parking meters, etc.
we'll never innovate unless we're willing to fail
students are sometimes somewhat reserved. what do you think is the most effective way to create this culture of trust?
Mark in my new STEAM Room teaching and learning is often pupil led
The more you try new ideas, the more resilient you become--it makes you so much stronger, more facile, open minded.
ok...good point please say more.
It’s ok to stop mid-project and reevaluate w/Ss. We did that on making movies.
I try a LOT of new ideas, paths--many die out, but some really make a difference. Getting better at this.
Something that changes the current stasis. The result is the innovation. Hope I'm making sense here! :-) https://t.co/NqWADLpwN4
how would you define "innovative" then?
True & the key is to keep your mission center--then even if you fail, your intent was well directed.
self evaluation & discussions with colleagues are incredibly useful
Sometimes innovation means stepping aside and letting Ss lead the learning.
WE WERE GIVEN Excellence in Ed, Ed Reform, 21st century skills, World Class Stds, Ed tech, and more. Were they innovations? No way
Yes -- another argument for innovative Ts modeling failure for Ss. :-) https://t.co/gm0voIZNNZ
The more you try new ideas, the more resilient you become--it makes you so much stronger, more facile, open minded.
So true. A balanced blend of tech use w/other inspiring methods works best. Not all or nothing.
So true. I often find myself thinking more about the result than the intention
Makes teachers better AND students.
My school still won't adopt MineCraft. I've been asking for YEARS
Innovating is using tech to connect Ss w/ scientists in the field IMHO
Notice a big diff w/my math students who play Minecraft vs. those that don't--access to learning issue.
STOP what you're doing these PEEPS
Love this idea! Innovation achieved through incremental changes. https://t.co/gavp9vMjM0
start small if needed. Change something you do and see if there's an impact. From little things, big things grow.
Do you think there should be a minimum age for this? I know I have kinders who play at home
Innovation happens bottom up, not top down. Supportive environment needed. Sorely missing.
Depends are we talking personal innovation, school wide, district, state etc Each can look a bit different https://t.co/T1iu4YR7RT
In order to be called an innovation must it reach some semblance of scale? Be durable? Have impact? Just asking...
Right on! Innovations are made from inspiration and risk, they are not given!
Fail fast and fall forward.
YOU ... be who you are and believe in the kids ... talk to the kids as people NOT just as students.
got it! So it's not "new?"
Agree--we can find answers to almost anything so quickly, this is amazing.
Build relationships & show you care. TALK to them. Respond consistently and fairly.
A few years ago we were begging to get tech, now that doesn't seem to be as much of an issue for many.
Using Technology to Engage Students With Learning Disabilities (Corwin Connected Educators Series) https://t.co/Gq33harXzT
The Ss are truly amazing, they can learn so much, understand a LOT.
Man wouldn't that rock if it did! Much more time consuming sadly...but WORTH it! edchat https://t.co/8xDjqXBvXM
READY 1...2…3 INNOVATE. Nah, it doesn’t happen that way, does it?
After teaching a sci unit, allow Ss to invent/brainstorm to solve an issue / problem
Support comes from colleagues and students with successful innovation.
very true. some of the greatest learning can happen through failure
This wk 3 1st graders got up, presented a super service learning project to 400 Ss in school.
Kids need practice with the thinking. Need to be taught how to brainstorm together.
devil's advocate here - I took part in an innovation that was technically top-down. Cannot discount
Anyone interested in moderating this evening at 7pm Central? Our moderator had a last minute conflict.
Should politics be discussed in the classroom?
New is not my big push, my push is teaching well, meeting expectations, serving the Ss best ways that I can.
Interesting to see many "innovations" that have come and gone. What remains? Nothing trumps an engaged, passionate edu who cares!
and it is ok to like your students and for them to like you. teachers don't have to be jerks
Yes. Allow them to actively dive into a theory or principle rather than simply memorize and repeat it back to you.
Seems so simple, but not always easy, yet always most important priorities.
I proudly stand with Jacquelyn ->
Innovations are purposed experiences. Experience can be a great teacher!
True, we cannot create more hours in day PLUS be continually engaged w/ Ss
OMG, get outta my brain! So agree!
Only if the kids can't guess which side you are on ... unbiased
Did the innovation have staying power and growth? What was the project?
super cool! so great to see young students develop speaking skills i didnt develop until college
❤️ failure forces reflection & growth Failure is not a BAD thing it's a stepping stone fwd when done right https://t.co/CsbL7gIWrx
What role does FAILURE play in educational innovation?
And what's interesting is that many different kinds of teachers are successful--it's not one approach.
Yes! See! Vulnerability is massively important in all of this, whether you are a T or a P or a S.
Innovation requires that schools move from one-size-fits-all to individualization, embrace failure, & foster T creativity.
Sometimes I think I need to get Minecraft for myself...
It did! Our blended learning program grew to 1,000 Ss in about 3 years
At times, yes. Depends on age, issue, reason, but as 5th grade teacher I teach the info, but don't share my view.
I let Ss debate the issues respectfully--I stay neutral.
Agree 100% How else can you prepare independent thinkers? Besides, its professionalism!
we all bring different strengths & ideas to the classroom. Asking others what they're doing to teach the same stuff is invaluable
Celebrate the beginning of the Major League Baseball season with these baseball-themed lesson plans! https://t.co/nWYTSBu5Gx
Fascinating meeting today: a teacher walking us through a lesson, explaining rationale behind all instructional design decisions.
Impressive... what were 'indicators of success'? Number of students, or something more?
I should too Catherine. I've tried it a bit, but since I can't use it at school, I haven't been motivated as much.
Back to small changes. I teach differently than 20 ya. Have I been innovating? Probably. Caring? Defintely
When you are sitting with admin support implementing that idea with students making a positive impact 😉 https://t.co/jyDVYZ57w5
Yes they can... at what point does and idea become an innovation?
Vulnerability is essential to learning, growing--we need to be gentle w/one another because of this.
has some great exp. with use in classroom. One set w/him at had me hooked https://t.co/X6KFdenNiv
My school still won't adopt MineCraft. I've been asking for YEARS
Goog to hear. I've started a blended class for AP Env Sci. My scores improved!
Failure without reflection is FAILURE...failure with reflection and refinement is innovation...
So true! How about an innovation in the hands of a disengaged teacher? Recipe for disaster. https://t.co/e13PSwfSJs
Back to small changes. I teach differently than 20 ya. Have I been innovating? Probably. Caring? Defintely
lots more...we looked at qualitative and quantitative factors. Ex- Ss reported feeling less stressed
our Leading from the Classroom series-master teachers sharing theory and practice from the classroom
! https://t.co/M4jJiuJlMk
Failure without reflection is FAILURE...failure with reflection and refinement is innovation...
Yes, however we can't forget social dimension--Ss love to work w/each other, teach each other--many socially driven.
Looking for innovation? Talk to treading-water Ts, not only high-flyers. They're one step ahead of failure, where innovation lies.
Is innovation personal(ized)? What might seem innovative to 1 might not be to another.
Time for reflection… now that is a luxury!
Or perhaps, it's the innovation that inspires them :)
I am a student right now at USD studying ed and I could not agree more with this statement!
... time and place for top, up, in, out, over, under INNOVATIONS
I hear ya, mine sometimes come at 3 am but I do it...to important to not. https://t.co/PabtJTrFM6
Time for reflection… now that is a luxury!
Agreed. Innovations should be replicated based on data IMHO
Sadly, this happens more often than not, especially in higher ed. https://t.co/RVjbJ1wkQZ
I am constantly changing how I teach. I cannot imagine teaching the same exact way for 20 years!
Innovation begins with well-planned instructional design models, charters and scopes.Identify risks and sustainability.
We've had about 60 ts at our HS experience this style of learning labs this year. Ts leading Ts.
interesting... I've noticed el-mid Ss like it a lot, but I've heard mixed reactions from teachers
We must tailor learning to Ss individual needs to achieve success on our end and theirs. https://t.co/NDZREAvXZw
Innovation requires that schools move from one-size-fits-all to individualization, embrace failure, & foster T creativity.
All done my first year in the faculty of education. Any suggested reads re: assessment or social justice in the classroom?
I think that I'm coming very late for . What is the topic?
My kids have been working in all year ... currently building Great Wall of China in their world
Powerful graphic novel about the Nat Turner rebellion and a must have for social studies classrooms. https://t.co/kC8w1j1f1T
Learning, by its very nature result from failure...
I've been reading about "living systems" Nancy--so interesting. Here's link: https://t.co/IiKjIe1NzV Your comment connects.
YES. Data-driven decisions indicate sustainability!
Or really any reads that a young teacher should explore.
Right! There's an innovation that would get good press -- a way to convert disengaged teachers. :-) https://t.co/lJMlypKvTS
Or perhaps, it's the innovation that inspires them :)
Agree that reflection is key, and mine also come at 3am sometimes. I bet we're not alone.
I proudly stand in the show of Edward ->
A great place for Bold leaders to empower innovation.
Yet depends on data--good data source, yes.
Focus, Choice Words, Readicide are three of my faves.

SEEKING TO INNOVATE?Workshops, exchanges, service, and outreach get you more of the same done better… So what to do?
Not individualization instead of collaboration. I mean that 1 way of doing anything doesn’t work for everyone.
Cool... be sure to send me url...
I bet you are right 😉 https://t.co/XJMrIA6vlq

Agreed, as long as we don't lose the souls of the Ss while interpreting the data. Ss more than numbers. https://t.co/FZ7HX2X93Z
YES. Data-driven decisions indicate sustainability!
True. Ed data is the pits! Time for Ed Research by Ts!
Join us in this campaign to teach till the rings! Stay tuned for ways U can get involved in May! https://t.co/wzTbEypDq0
We need to allow a safe environment for Ss to fail as well. Only way to grow.
Yes! It's fun to watch that reaction as well! https://t.co/bFY7ke6FLi
Big innovations create chain reactions. Example car created need for gas stations, roads, parking meters, etc.
so it's important for PD-leaders to build in time for reflection for Ts, as well as Ts for Ss
THANKS for participating in exploration of innovation in schools. Special shout out to co-mods: Next week!
So true--so much variety in what engages and educates students.
That's why I love, love, love ! It is my weekly PD!

Thanks to all the participants tonight -- such a lively chat. Lots of good ideas, questions.
I agree. True innovation that creates impact takes a lot of nurturing & leadership doesn't happen overnight https://t.co/QfQhgjf7js
In education, THERE'S A VERY GOOD CHANCE that what we call innovation will not be innovative or impactful...
Must be pedagogically responsible when implementing innovative approaches. Ss more than our guinea pigs.
We should ALL be careful consumers of data. 100% agree with field-led research
Sorry I missed what seemed like a great chat on one of my favorite topics education innovation at

Get your twitter chat playlists ready! is in 5 minutes
Probably depends how it is used.
I teach three math classes--I find the same.
Agree Mason--we have an assembly every week and lots of Ss get up and speak.
Would love to hear about schools running development programs for the emerging leaders on their staff
I think it's all about balance and knowing the Ss. A diff answer for all.
I've been 3D printing skeleton pieces, wonder if I could use "innovation" and assemble it?!
