Good evening #MakeItReal friends Blah blah blah . I'm Jay from NJ blah blah blah. Glad to see you @MathDenisNJ blah blah blah I just love the 280 characters blah blah blah blah blah blah Blah
Hi #MakeItReal! I'm Lila, a project-based STEAM curriculum designer, educational network associate @NametagChat, & traveling blues dancer making my way down the West Coast.
A1: Being able to learn more about my field in education from experienced teachers! Also being able to share what information I have to help improve the field of education. #MakeItReal
A1: 280 characters = more sharing. My @twitter#pln is by far my best resource for learning, so it can only be better. I'm so used to 140 though. Going to take a bit to adjust. #MakeItReal
A1: The main benefit would be better grammar and impeccable typing skill that we don't usually see. Also the chance to write complete sentences without hyphenating and shortening #MakeItReal
A1: More opportunities to grow by hearing (in more detail) about what others are doing in the classroom. It is also a great example of how you can express ideas and concepts with your students in short, concise ways and in more expressive ways! #makeitreal
A1 280 character on twitter allows me to tag more colleagues & not struggle so much with abbreviating ideas to the point that my meaning might not be clear #MakeItReal
A1 I'm longwinded, Twitter forced me to condense those thoughts. I'll focus on keeping my precision but being able to share bigger ideas and concepts without resorting to threaded tweets! #MakeItReal
A1: I can actually write a complete thought and not have to worry about numbers. It is aggravating when I have to go back and change letters to numbers. Sometimes I like to give more credit to others as well. #makeitreal
A1: Our principal @missliz31 has really encouraged us to #tellourstory on Twitter this year through sharing student activities and other information. Increased character limit allows me to be more specific/descriptive in this endeavor. #MakeItReal
A1.2 Much more useful for my school account I manage. Often times I find I had to leave out important info that wouldn't fit. 280 = better communication! #MakeItReal
I anticipate that and/or additional lists of hashtags for advertising sake. I promise to do my best to not be a 5 word plus 50 hashtag tweeter! #MakeItReal
A2: The creativity necessary by the constraint of the character limit was actually a good thing, and these longer answers take longer to read through... #MakeItReal
A2: Forced us to make our point quickly. Didn't have to read that much. Like email, more than three lines and I delete it. You have to be more thoughtful and hit key points. If I wanted facebook, I'd flip to that #MakeItReal
A1. The 280 character limit is better. Tagging more colleagues and providing more information or links is great! I am finding now I want 300!! #MakeItReal
#MakeItReal might be less applicable to me than I thought, so I'm jumping off. Gonna join the #WeirdEd chat in 15 min, though; enjoy the chat & see some of you there, I hope!
A1: As an Eng teacher, I now don't have to use numbers for words or have to code messages w/Ts and Ss or decipher the code of others. I don't have students use Twitter in class, since we use other mediums that aren't banned by the District. So really it appeases my grammar OCD.
A2:Helped me get straight to the point when expressing thoughts and ideas. It actually helped me in my admin role when dealing with staff and students. Make what you say concise and meaningful. Most people only hear the first few things you say anyway! #makeitreal
A2 Forcing the 140 meant every character counted (2x as much as now, in fact). Tweets HAD to be precise or they'd lose effectiveness. Who actually reads multi-tweet rants anyhow? #MakeItReal
A2 Less characters forced you to be direct and only include what was most important. As the reader, its easy to read main topic- like a headline catching your attention #MakeItReal
A2: There's something important about constraints for creativity, terseness, clarity, etc. --> https://t.co/aeCu4bcPBz Yes, the more-but-limited characters is still a constraint, but it feels different after having navigated lesser for so long #MakeItReal
A2: the limit not only helped me be concise, but helped me choose my messages wisely. Sometimes, when too long, I realized they were better off not said. #MakeItReal
Q3: In our classrooms, what are the benefits of giving students significantly more voice time, and of limiting their voice time to a smaller amount? #MakeItReal
A3: Empowers them. Makes them feel smarter and valuable. I have let a S teach a mini-lesson before because they figured out how to do something I could not. It made their day. We as educators can learn as well. #makeitreal
A3: More #stuvoice can never be wrong. Empowering our Ss to speak out is an essential part of our job as educators. With 280, using @twitter in class can be even more impactful. #MakeItReal
A3: Using @flipgrid and setting time limits on questions allows you to see how students think when limited to an amount of time. Find that they are able to express the same things just in different ways! #makeitreal
A3: More voice time for Ss allows you to get input from more students if not all of them in a class period. Limiting their voice time helps them focus on what is absolutely essential & refine their response. #MakeItReal
A3 As I work with Ts, I'm encouraging them to keep voice time to smaller increments so Ss can stay focused on the topic instead of digressing. Takes some practice, but works #MakeItReal
A3 Nice transition! They feel valued, they participate more, they grow more in ways that can and cannot be measured. The learn how to learn instead of how to take notes. #makeitreal
A3: Giving more voice time allows for beneficial, deep, and thoughtful class discussions. While limiting voice time also provides for discovery through other avenues than speech. #MakeItReal
A3 Depends how you set up your classroom and lesson. More voice time could mean more student engagement and ownership of learning by empowering students. #makeitreal
A3 Depends on the student! Some Ss benefit from more time to speak, processes, be acknowledged & valued etc. Others benefit from being forced to clarify and sharpen their thoughts. Know your Ss! #MakeItReal
Q3: Limiting Ss time helps them to learn to listen. Too often, Ss and Ts have a "mind full" and are not "mindful" enough to genuinely listen #MakeItReal
A3: Limiting Ss time helps them to learn to listen. Too often, Ss and Ts have a "mind full" and are not "mindful" enough to genuinely listen #MakeItReal
A3: More voice time allows students the time to think through their answers. Less voice time can allow for representation in other formats such as writing. #MakeItReal
thank you all for coming to #MAkeITReal tonight! I love your perspectives and know that in oyur hands, great education is happening across our country! See you next week!
Hey everyone, I'm not a fan of 280 bc I think sometimes we all get long-winded and I appreciated the conciseness of twitter #MakeItReal I loved chats where I could filter tweets quickly but now... I don't know how it will be
Yes! #edtech gives our Ss so much more reach and voice time! Have you used #flipgrid in your classroom? Great video extension for feedback! #MakeItReal
A3: ✅ 🗣= discussion of content is always a ➕and it also helps me gauge their understanding. Teaching others is right at the top of Bloom's 🔺. Limited student voice can help them get to the point and provide a quick check of basic recall. #MakeItReal
A2 Tweet chats- shorter answers made it more engaging. I did crave for larger space whn i had to write my answers n it wudn't fit, but ironically reading long answers isn't really exciting :( #280characters#makeitreal
What I've seen tonight is a tendency toward the shorter tweets, with the occasional longer with need for explanation. I can handle that. If they all get longer, we can set new limits. Half the blue circle only!! #MakeItReal
A3: @Flipgrid allows all voices to be heard (loud & quiet). When not utilizing tech for Ss reflecting/sharing takes a lot of instructional time out of the day #makeitreal
