Hi, #ohedchat! I'll be in and out, due to capstone projects that cry out for some feedback before going live in front of a professional audience. I can't wait to see my Ss share their elevator pitches & designed solutions!
Sarah Schraml Kindergarten teacher and aspiring administrator from MO. Will be jumping between two chats happy to be here to talk about building culture! #ohedchat
Struggling with tiered supports? Our intervention library is loaded with the best options from @khanacademy and other fabulous resources. We make sure you know the right move to help kiddos who need a little extra! #principallife#ohedchat

A1: Offer a voice & choice to Ts, Ss & community. Modeling for others influences culture - its sets the tone for what is expected. Leaders need to model innovation & creativity if they want to see it from others. #ohedchat
A1: No matter your role, never pass up the opportunity to engage someone in a positive convo. You never know what struggles others are facing & your kind words just may save their day. #ohedchat
A1 I started secret pals among the staff. I am also finishing my first staff Energy Bus twitter chat tonight. Encouraging others to think and act positively. Build relationships and always communicate! #OhEdchat
It doesn't even have to be a long convo to make someone's day- a hello, smile, and chat let's people know that you care and that they matter! #ohedchat
A1: No matter your role, never pass up the opportunity to engage someone in a positive convo. You never know what struggles others are facing & your kind words just may save their day. #ohedchat
A1: show the culture you want on a small scale! Live the culture you want to see! It'll be infectious and lead others to follow! Don't be afraid of what others will say! #OhEdChat
A1 Every single person in the school influences culture. Perhaps in the words you say or the actions you take. Especially with the words you DON'T say and actions you DON'T take. School culture can't be successful unless the negativity is opposed. #ohedchat
A1: make relatiinship building a priority. Stand outside your door. Meet folks from other departments. Positivity and a willingness to help others.
#ohedchat
This article by @HollyClarkEdu is straight 🔥🔥🔥. My favorite part is the proverb that she found in a @BreneBrown book: "Knowledge is only a rumor until it lives in the muscle."
- "Disrupting A Culture of One Right Answer" #ohedchathttps://t.co/0k9LmmD9xJ
#ohedchat Culture is influenced by modeling, & building relationships with everyone to ensure that people know they are valued. Investment in people, should be your daily goal
#ohedchat principal from Northern NY. A1- simply welcome people everywhere you go. Never let an S or T pass you without greeting with a warm hello and a smile.
Yes! And build that culture with your peers. This isn’t a competition or rivalry. This is collaborative effort to build positive relationships to create safe, happy places of learning (even though learning is messy and a struggle). #ohedchat
I loved reading the #EnergyBus by @JonGordon11 this summer & just sent an email asking who would like to learn how to participate in a twitter chat and I had only about 7 staff respond. We have been getting together on Wed nights &I engage them in reflective questions. #ohedchat
This is how we create a welcoming school. I say hello to everyone in the halls/classrooms. Make sure those that were away that they know I see them and am happy they are back. #ohedchat
#ohedchat principal from Northern NY. A1- simply welcome people everywhere you go. Never let an S or T pass you without greeting with a warm hello and a smile.
A1 Initiate recognizing the great work of your colleagues! You don't have to wait for something official from the top. Build people up by acknowledging their effort and talents. #ohedchat
A2: I stood outside a high school teacher's classroom waiting to meet w/ her & as her students left she gave each one a high-five & called them by name. #ohedchat
A2: Student Council & other organizations and clubs taking leadership roles in schools. Students having a voice doing great things like creating apps, raising money for cancer & collecting food/clothing for the needy create culture #ohedchat
Shared experiences help build community. Whether it’s a shared learning experience or a shared community service project, working together towards a common goal in the best interest of kids builds culture! #ohedchat
A2: donut Fridays, happy hours, spirit days, contests, pep rallies, memes, slogans, anything that builds unity! Having a little bit of fun instead of being serious 24/7! #ohedchat
A2 One of our teachers initiated a fantastic Veteran's Day program this year. Patriotic and involved the whole community--build school culture/pride! #ohedchat
A2: Every interaction influences culture, it can positively influence it or negatively influence it. A smile, a listening ear, a celebration about learning....or #carpool karaoke https://t.co/83uDCv0cnO#ohedchat
A2 Time. Time to talk, collaborate, think, explore, and joke together.
That and the commitment of all to call each other out on the toxicity that can creep in. #ohedchat
Shared experiences help build community. Whether it’s a shared learning experience or a shared community service project, working together towards a common goal in the best interest of kids builds culture! #ohedchat
#ohedchat Your reaction to situations goes far in determining the culture, must be able to maintain that same mentality when things are good and difficult
A1: I always appreciate how @gcouros distinguishes between being a school teacher vs a classroom teacher. Our support and love has no bounds. We serve them ALL. Students and Staff! #OhEdChat
#ohedchat Everything we do comes back to relationships. How we make people feel during interactions, that more than anything impacts our school culture. When people feel valued and supported so many great things are possible.
A2 School activities that can cull stakeholders from different demographics in a building help a school's culture. At my school, theater is robust. Almost 25 percent of the school was involved in last weekend's production.
#ohedchat
A2: making time to attend your Ss events...get Ps involved in activities. Make the entire school a learning environment and not just your classroom. Culture needs to immerse the school! #OHedchat
A2: a blue print which is posted. This means others have given their feedback and opinion. Everyone holding each other to the same high expectations. Constantly highlighting those living the culture emphasizing its importance to others.
#ohedchat
#ohedchat A2: When you grow the S/Learner....you influence culture. Focus on metacognition. It goes beyond your classroom. The content is not the endgame! It's the student, the young person who will walk out your door!
Want to build culture? Have conversations & regular check ins with faculty, students & families about culture! What is the climate of your community? What do people need to feel supported & valued? Those questions influence culture! #ohedchat
#ohedchat I teach HS, so this may be handled slightly different in our arena, but I've seen what well-executed morning meetings do for kids & school culture in elementary schools.
A2: making time to attend your Ss events...get Ps involved in activities. Make the entire school a learning environment and not just your classroom. Culture needs to immerse the school! #OHedchat
A2 #ohedchat I want to build their capacity to contribute to our culture so that it isnt all admin directed...luck to have rockstars like @clarkswolves & @DewawnW to help!!
A2: As leaders, we can provide opportunities where everyone can be a leader in some way. This can be clubs, contests, professional development, meetings, arts, etc. #ohedchat
A2: Opportunites that help us learn from each other and work together. The diversity of experiences, thinking & backgrounds makes us wonderfully unique and a powerful team! #ohedchat
Oh that second part can be tough, can't it? We want students to stand up to one another when not doing the right thing, but this can be hard for the adults too #OhEdChat
A2: within the classroom, weekly classroom meetings built on our lifelong guidelines common language. Ss compliment each other on the LLG they witness. #ohedchat
Want to build culture? Have conversations & regular check ins with faculty, students & families about culture! What is the climate of your community? What do people need to feel supported & valued? Those questions influence culture! #ohedchat

Definitely parents & athletes themselves. Not all maximize the opportunity outside the actual sport as much is possible. Don’t wait to be asked to be a leader especially beyond the season. Peers are watching! #OhEdChat
A2: to build a strong culture you have to maintain a positive outlook. Leadership needs to put energy into leading, strong communication and cultivating ideas to improve CIA #ohedchat
Q3 - #ohedchat - How does your campus encourage the use of your time & effort to go the extra mile, push harder, spend more time, and do whatever is necessary to get the job done?
Definitely parents & athletes themselves. Not all maximize the opportunity outside the actual sport as much is possible. Don’t wait to be asked to be a leader especially beyond the season. Peers are watching! #OhEdChat
A2 a school culture is born through relationships. Experiences & activities are only meaningful & relevant if ss & ts feel safe & brave enough to be vulnerable. Without relationships exp. & activities are rather meaningless. #ohedchat
A2: it’s the expectation, walking the walk & talking the talk. Actions need to match words and creating/cultivating relationships will always grow the culture. #OhEdChat
Q3: How does your campus encourage the use of your time & effort to go the extra mile, push harder, spend more time, and do whatever is necessary to get the job done? #ohedchat
A2: Love seeing teachers make time to have 1:1 conferences with their students to build relationships, understand their needs and get to know them. #ohedchat
#ohedchat Must be willing to be ingrained in the fabric of what your organization does, which means staff, students, & parents. They need to know your investment in them
Q3: How does your campus encourage the use of your time & effort to go the extra mile, push harder, spend more time, and do whatever is necessary to get the job done? #ohedchat
Me too! Any excuse to bring in treats for my staff.....sadly, with some dietary restrictions, this week I left a mini-poinsettia on their desks in their classrooms. Food coming next Friday! #ohedchat (great to reconnect, Amber. Been too long)
A3: 🤔not quite sure yet. At a new school. Definitely seeing those who are jazzed about it though by their efforts. Perhaps I need to join their forces! #ohedchat
Q3 - #ohedchat - How does your campus encourage the use of your time & effort to go the extra mile, push harder, spend more time, and do whatever is necessary to get the job done?
A3: By having high expectations for our Ts, Ss, & Admins. Our community expects a diversity of classes offered and opportunities for our Ss (clubs, athletics, internships). It makes all of us go the extra mile each day #ohedchat
A2: Listening, treating all with kindness, learning names of as many students as possible, Morning bus duty karaoke, celebrating successes through weekly notes #ItAllMatters#ohedchat
A3 Think if staff embraces a Vision for "learning / kids first' --- that's the main thing -- then it flows from there --- I want to gine more/ do more / give more time #ohedchat
A2: Every time we are in front of a group of S's or T's, it's an opportunity to build a community. Therefore, take time to allow them to get to know one another through interactive Q's & fun activities. #OHedchat
A3 We're all on the same page in the same book. There are high expectations for everyone! Everyone wants to do and become better every day- staff, teachers, students, community. It's just what we do! @JSDBlackridgeRavens#ohedchat
A3 Acknowledge and celebrate buy-in. Make note of strengths and actions beyond the call of duty.
When you give thanks to the extraordinary, the average educator may turn the heat up a little.
#ohedchat
Q3: How does your campus encourage the use of your time & effort to go the extra mile, push harder, spend more time, and do whatever is necessary to get the job done? #ohedchat
A3: We expect so much from ourselves every day. Want to be exactly what every Ss needs to do best learning. Want to be what every P needs. Want to be what colleagues need. I have to encourage staff to find balance. #ohedchat
A3 Acknowledge and celebrate buy-in. Make note of strengths and actions beyond the call of duty.
When you give thanks to the extraordinary, the average educator may turn the heat up a little.
#ohedchat
A3: I've been given access to our social media accounts. I encourage Ts to help me promote our great stories and find ways to connect to Ps and the community! #ohedchat
#ohedchat Everything we do comes back to relationships. How we make people feel during interactions, that more than anything impacts our school culture. When people feel valued and supported so many great things are possible.
A3: I've always believed that if you give your S's & staff ample time, resources & support they will embrace change in a + way. If we're going 2 ask people 2 do more, then take something away. #OHedchat
A3: Our department chairs & @jessicaslocum3 utilize effective, efficient meetings. We focus on creating a culture of quality student work & utilize tools to make meetings time well served. #ohedchat
A3: we host many after school student opportunities that do not require teachers attend, but rather they make the choice to serve our students and families! #OhEdChat
A3: we dont spend time but invest time. When you invest your time you value what you put in. Time is of value because we only get so much. Our mind set is to embrace the grind in any endeavor we approach.
#ohedchat
A1: Robin-TA-IL, Any staff member can 1. Build relationships with Ss, 2. #RandomActsOfKindness never go out of style 3. I greet Ss as they enter the building, knowing Ss names, I play music! #ohedchat
#ohedchat A3: Recommendation for Admins here. Demand less. Ts WANT to do more. They want to go as far and as hard as it takes. Don't demand of it them in micro-managed time-sucking ways that kill the spirit. Let their joy and creativity show YOU what they are willing to do!
Q3: How does your campus encourage the use of your time & effort to go the extra mile, push harder, spend more time, and do whatever is necessary to get the job done? #ohedchat
Yes! And, really listen to our ppl. REALLY listen to understand concerns and suggestions. If we start from common ground, we can move forward together. #ohedchat
Having just (finally) read DITCZH THAT TEXTBOOK by @jmattmiller, here's my biggest takeaway:
I'm done with average.
I want everyone to be awesome and fabulous. Period.

A3: we offer PD before, after, during school. We will do whatever it takes - and we crave teachers who want to lead the charge! We just started Edcamping our staff meetings #ohedchat
A3: it’s also recognizing how hard our staff goes to meet student needs and when we can, we give time back to the Ts so they can handle theirs. Thankfully I can reminders to help me with this. #OhEdChat
A3: Encourage extra time and outside student support through "paw print challenge" - attending so many events etc = super duper nice staff shirt. Encourage each other through weekly twitter chats, through collaboration, #observe me and others #OhEdChat
A3-In order to encourage the use of time and effort we must celebrate and recognize those who go above and beyond #ohedchat Celebrate what we want to see more of.
Celebrating small and big accomplishments is so important and it doesn't have to be for all to see and hear. It can be a handwritten note, email or face to face. Appreciation goes a long way! #ohedchat
A3: I'm VERY THANKFUL to have a dept. chair who recognized the value of meeting time to collaborate and grow together vs. read a laundry list of CYA bullet-points that could be sent in an email. #ohedchat
Legend of the Evergreen is a fun, #holiday story to share with your class AND take your Ss to a deeper level of #criticalthinking. Use this lesson to push Ss to go deeper as they go through the steps of making and evaluating difficult decisions!- https://t.co/FnZxx5ke5Q#ohedchat
#Ohedchat A2 warmly welcoming students to their spaces, adding brain breaks and quick bursts of physical activities (i.e INPACT) to classes, developing/scaffolding skills around group work and constructive criticism, embedding SEL with intent.
A3: Encourage extra time and outside student support through "paw print challenge" - attending so many events etc = super duper nice staff shirt. Encourage each other through weekly twitter chats, through collaboration, #observe me and others #OhEdChat
Q4 - #ohedchat - @justintarte says, “Give a kid a grade & the learning stops. Give feedback & extending questions & learning goes deeper.” How do you build that culture in your classroom/building?
Q4: @justintarte says, “Give a kid a grade & the learning stops. Give feedback & extending questions and learning goes deeper.”
How do you build a culture of meaningful teacher feedback in your classroom/building?
#OhEdChat
A3: We keep the focus on #WB4K and like @donald_gately said, in doing that, it flows from there. People genuinely want to be amazing for kids so they push themselves and each other and have high expectations. #ohedchat
A2: Part 1-Our district needs to make budget cuts...this difficult issue has brought the staff, my TA team members, parents even Ss together to solve this issue. #ohedchat
Q4: @justintarte says, “Give a kid a grade & the learning stops. Give feedback & extending questions and learning goes deeper.”
How do you build a culture of meaningful teacher feedback in your classroom/building?
#OhEdChat
A3: I try to model genuine gratitude and joy for all that they do every day. Say it often! Write a note. If I could, I’d do interpretive dance! #ohedchat
A3: I try to model genuine gratitude and joy for all that they do every day. Say it often! Write a note. If I could, I’d do interpretive dance! #ohedchat
A4-As Ts we must build our understanding of the power of feedback, learn how to give meaningful feedback and set the conditions for students to provide feedback to one another-as admin and leaders we much focus on feedback as we look at data points #ohedchat
A4: Celebrate thorough, effective feedback by Ts. Recognize Ts who make revisions a regular part of the learning experience. Model showing Ss quality Ss examples from previous classes #ohedchat
#ohedchat. METACOGNTION. Or, in my class, "Math-acognition." Weekly reflections on process, emotion, and self-image.
Also, SBG. Utilize re-assessment, reward learning at ANY speed....not just the quick ones.
Q4: @justintarte says, “Give a kid a grade & the learning stops. Give feedback & extending questions and learning goes deeper.”
How do you build a culture of meaningful teacher feedback in your classroom/building?
#OhEdChat
A4: Great quote from #PowerofMoments “Action leads to insight more often than insight leads to action” Build a culture where the action lends instead to great conversations. Kids have to “do”...create that environment. #ohedchat
A4: feedback has to be a two-way street. Not only should we give feedback to kids and their work, we should solicit feedback about the work we do as teachers. #ohedchat
A4: we just started k-4 standards based grading. It is starting by having conversations with Ss. It’s been harder for kids who are used to letter grades! #OhEdChat
A3: I try to model genuine gratitude and joy for all that they do every day. Say it often! Write a note. If I could, I’d do interpretive dance! #ohedchat
A4 I’m working on more ss 2 ss feedback. It has been powerful when I have ss lead conversation and talk to each other. I tell them not to talk to me because then everyone is an observer not participant. I will coach ss @ feedback but I want them to lead it. #ohedchat
#ohedchat
A3: develop a genuine relationship and foster an attitude w/Ss of always wanting to be better with each day. It's not about what you did wrong but helping them reach their true potential.
A3: I try to model genuine gratitude and joy for all that they do every day. Say it often! Write a note. If I could, I’d do interpretive dance! #ohedchat
Q4 is a great question.
Wish I had a great response other than it looks like (another) growth are for me.
Are we too preoccupied with summatives? #ohedchat

If we want to see feedback be defined as a positive, constructive opportunity for growth for our students then we must define & see feedback in the same way. I think feedback often carries a negative connotation! #OhEdChat
A4: Make sure teachers know that there is NO PLACE I'D RATHER BE than in their classrooms or doing feedback meetings. Most important part of my job.
https://t.co/RMP2sjO0v4#ohedchat
Well said @Joe_Sanfelippo - we need to expect more from our Ss than we do. They will surprise you. Let them lead the action & watch them grow #OhEdChat
A4: Great quote from #PowerofMoments “Action leads to insight more often than insight leads to action” Build a culture where the action lends instead to great conversations. Kids have to “do”...create that environment. #ohedchat

A3: i try to make sure i define my HARD expectations so they know tht everything else is soft...not a micro manager, just want to get #allthethings done!! #ohedchat
A4: i ask for it. I cry over it. I over anlyze it. I dwell on it. Feedback is HARD...it's why i try to CELEBRATE my people. They're harder on themselves than I am... #ohedchat
A2: Part 2-Food always brings people together! Monday, Our certified staff provided breakfast for all the TAs in our bldg & took our A.M. duties! #lovemyjob#fc308rocks#ohedchat
We are also working on getting teachers to video their own lessons. Self reflection! @Mr_O_AHS has a few volunteers. #ohedchat Love @Flipgrid for this.
A4: I always ask Ts for anonymous feedback. Always want to be sure that if something didn't work, I have an opportunity to change and make it better. By doing so, I'm modeling what I hope to see them doing with their own Ss. #ohedchat
A4 I love the idea of having teachers observe each other and see each other teach. It does have to be done carefully (and casually) so teachers do not feel like they are being graded/evaluated. I am a big fan of the #observeme movement! #ohedchat
When giving feedback we must be mindful & clear about the intent & then be ready to understand how it impacted the person on the other end. Intent vs. Impact- keep them both in mind! #OhEdChat
A4: Celebrate thorough, effective feedback by Ts. Recognize Ts who make revisions a regular part of the learning experience. Model showing Ss quality Ss examples from previous classes #ohedchat
A4: Leaders need to coach Ts on how to provide Ss w/ effective feedback. Provide Ts w/ ways to allow for revisions & provide learning opportunities for Ss from their feedback. "Great Job!", check marks, & stickers should be outlawed. #ohedchat
A4: Great pts in this thread by Ts and Admin. Imagine if T evaluation was simply a "grade" and a resulting salary. Instead of a conversation, a plan for growth, and an investment in your development. Ss want the same thing.....they're people, too! #ohedchat
A4: share the success stories. Build on the positives. Recognize the great work that Ts and Ss are putting in. A little support goes a long way. #ohedchat
A4: Virtual coaching opportunities for teachers. Encourages reflection and an ongoing dialogue about their instructional strategies & practices. #ohedchat
A4: We need to provide honest and specific feedback to Ts and Ss. E+R=O Our response has a direct impact on the outcome of the situation. It's important to be mindful of the needs of everyone involved. #ohedchat

I am such a huge fan of standards based grading! I feel like the biggest hurdle in the process is convincing community members and parents that it is valuable. Students, in my experience, adapt fairly quickly. #ohedchat
I bought 2 for my school and we're having fun with them. Definitely get multiple markers if you buy them. You can listen in on multiple conversation occurring in the classroom! #ohedchat
In reply to
@AllysonApsey, @theipodteacher, @Mr_O_AHS, @Flipgrid, @goswivl
Focus more on teaching & learning as a process and less as an event. School leaders who embrace this with teachers will have teachers who embrace this with kids. #ohedchat

Q5 - #ohedchat - “Teaching is something we do together not something we do by ourselves.” @HargreavesBC How do you promote a culture of collaboration in your classroom/building?
A4 If ss are empowered to infuse passions & interests & given time to think critically about how they connect in relevant ways to content. Then the feedback will be amazingly insightful. Feedback is weak when interest is lacking. #ohedchat
It starts with one. Getting something like this started really needs to be a slow diffusion kind of process. Admins telling teachers to do it will fail. One teacher starting it and repeatedly inviting colleagues in to hang out, chat, give feedback is the way to do it. #ohedchat
The other thing we have to understand is that if the only people learning in the building are ages 4 to 18 we’re doing it wrong. Adults need that opportunity to own the process as well. #ohedchat
A5: I’m always talking to teachers about collaboration, asking to help out and participate and pushing our district twitter chat #ACSedChat to share ideas. #ohedchat I also try to get them to join my #twima projects.
A5: Changing class schedules to make PLCs/TBTs/Common Planning Time the Number 1 priority in your school. The #WeGrowTogether culture will move a classroom/building from "Point A to Point B" before any strategy will #ohedchat
a5: year two in this school and am working the trust in teachers great ability that they all have something fab to share. Pineapple visits coming soon to PTS. 🍍 #OhEdChat

A5 Our outstanding video program - under the awesomeness of @mrtwhalen - draws from so many stakeholders who come together to create, innovate, and finally celebrate at our annual school film festival.
#ohedchat
A5 It starts with creating an environment of trust and remembering that we are better together. Knowing that we can learn from each other and providing time for deep conversations #ohedchat
Q4: @justintarte says, “Give a kid a grade & the learning stops. Give feedback & extending questions and learning goes deeper.”

A5: I give my Ss an outcome I want...I let them decide how to get there. They need to work together to the end. My team of Ts all are flexible and work with each other for the best of our Ss. #ohedchat
A4: I use faculty meetings to discuss the process of feedback and what it looks like in classrooms. Teachers share ideas and provide examples of effective feedback #ohedchat (Rich, MS Principal from NJ joining late!)
Q5. We need to be intentional about providing the opportunity for Ts to collaborate. We also need to teach the skills necessary for effective collaboration. Adults don't always know how to work together. #ohedchat
A3: Our department chairs & @jessicaslocum3 utilize effective, efficient meetings. We focus on creating a culture of quality student work & utilize tools to make meetings time well served. #ohedchat
A5: To have a culture of collaboration, failure must be okay. We have to be willing to be vulnerable with each other. We are all learners, we are all continuously improving. #ohedchat
It’s wrong that teachers often ask kids to learn new things but refuse to learn themselves. #ohedchat Don’t ask a kid to do something you aren’t willing to do yourself.
A5. We need to be intentional about providing the opportunity for Ts to collaborate. We also need to teach the skills necessary for effective collaboration. Adults don't always know how to work together. #ohedchat
A5 I share, share, share, share! Anytime I find something interesting or successful with my Ss, I make a few copies and stick them in mailboxes. I bring copies to team meetings. I sent emails that say "thought you might like this." Don't ask for anything in return! #ohedchat
Count me among the fan of the pineapple chart.
It's been a tough sell some weeks, though.
Must move Ts beyond modesty to want to celebrate the joy of their own classroom with each other.
#ohedchat
A5 Make time in staff meetings/PD for Ts to collab horizontal and vertical. Time is the one thing that will make it happen or keep it from happening. #ohedchat

A5: Start with building positive relationships based on trust and accountability. Encourage risk taking and accept failure as best practice. If you can't share ideas as a staff, try new strategies and then reflect how can we expect our kids to take risks and grow? #ohedchat

A5: I️ try to celebrate at least 2-3 great things I️ saw happen in our building each week in our weekly notes and encourage others to go see that person to learn more about it or to observe it. #ohedchat
A5 A schedule that allows for collab time. But, time alone does not create collaboration. Collaboration is much more than sharing future plans. Really have a collaborative culture when statements shift frm "We dont hve time to collab" to "We dont have time to NOT collab #ohedchat

A5: as a principal I have never said no to shadowing, co-teaching, off campus visits... I encourage collaboration and continuously share stories of visiting other schools and principals #ohedchat
I explain my failures all the time to them. I tell my stories. I show how growth happens from failing. It helps but points to them are more valuable... #ohedchat
If we really want to be innovative, we need radical candor instead of feel good feedback. One causes us to deepen our practice, the other only leads to a superficial comfort zone that can block the real creation we are all capable of achieving. @IBPBLJill
We've done a lot with videoing ourselves - listening to @jimknight99 talk about how this practice can change ourselves as educators certainly influenced me. We've also had Ts sit with another T of their choice to watch a 10 min clip of their choice and share feedback #OhEdChat

Ss immediately ask about credit for doing something...I explain how learning the process is a greater value, but they see it yet! It'll come along! #ohedchat
A6 . Each book I read changes something in me. More importantly, book stoke the fire within me to make my school better tomorrow.
Model lifelong reading.
Model growth mindset.
Thwart complacency at all cost.

A6 Books --- read books together --- commit to reading books ! #ohedchat Mindset , Gift of Failure , anything by @rickwormeli2 Non-educ. books too! Drive, Blink ... so many!!
A6: Get people together...on their terms, not yours. Provide time, resource, and opportunity to connect. Apps will change but the process of understanding that culture is built with every interaction should be part of the conversation. #ohedchat
A6: Radical Candor by Kim Scott is a great book that changed my school's culture and have watched/used it to bring leader and teacher teams together. #ohedchat
I was just able to visit @SouthwestAir for the Culture Connection tour and was able to bring back to great ideas for my staff. #ohedchat If you get the opportunity to visit-I highly recommend it
A6: we transformed the walls in our staff room for staff input and PD opportunities - one wall has questions of the month and one wall has PD from the questions from the previous month #ohedchat
I am not, but that sounds wonderful! I've been lucky to be able to attend a conference with him several years ago. Also , have done a fair amount of reading his works #OhEdChat

I️ don’t disagree, but it’s time to break down those walls! If my doctor isn’t sure about something, I️ want them collaborating with colleagues to be better...we should expect the same of those working with our future. Ignore the negativity and keep moving forward! #OHedchat
Count me among the fan of the pineapple chart.
It's been a tough sell some weeks, though.

Thanks for joining #ohedchat this evening. Special thanks to @8Amber8 for co-moderating and helping us dive deeper into building culture in our schools.
#ohedchat WHOA!! Fastest hr of my whole day...thanks so much for talking strategy friends!!! Check out @casas_jimmy book "Culturize" for all kinds of great ideas! I blog at https://t.co/2JfaBP0VhT too!!!
A6 Something I've been ecstatic about this year-we've done voluntary staff twitter book studies over books w/ a strong, positive message #KidsDeserveIt#TeacherMyth coming together weekly to discuss positivity is never going to hurt! We've averaged 25-30 staff per chat #OhEdChat
A6: Susan Kovalik and highly effective teaching is what introduced me to lifelong guidelines and life skills. Twitter chats always add to my PD #OHEdChat
A6: Love the FB group I am in with principals across the country sharing holiday ideas. Twitter, @voxer and FB connections make me want to be better every day, and give me GREAT ideas! @8Amber8#ohedchat
A5: Hi! Jumping in! Let other Ts know you are open & willing to collaborate. Also know that it may be a bit chaotic at first. This week alone my English 9&10 students worked in Google slides with 5th grade and used Hangouts to collab on projects w 7th grade. #OHEdChat
