Hello everyone. Luis from RI. I'm an ELL teacher, tech coach and director. My edtech resolution is to try some new tools and stretch my learning. #masterychat
A1 - I think the simplest definition of a hyperdoc is an interactive document using live web or external links to provide a deeper experience for S's learning. #masterychat
A1 I like simple definitions! A HyperDoc at its most basic is simply a document with links. That's it!
Now, the magic of HyperDocs is all about how you USE them. Embedding links that students access as part of their individualized learning path? Next level HyperDocs! #MasteryChat
Hello, #MasteryChat family!
Teresa Engler Dynamic Learning Project tech coach from PA
Happy to join in the chat
News Year's tech resolution?
Get a new cell phone! Mine is 5 years old and has been dropped a 100 times Oh, and it is out of storage I think it's time LOL
Hey, hey #masterychat colleagues! Alicia from Arkansas here. Ed tech resolution? Keep learning and growing for students' benefits as well as adult learning benefits.
Hi, Tyler hs AP from Cincinnati, ohio.
Tech goal is to have it become a tool that supports learners who might miss school but come in the next day like they haven't missed a beat.
#MasteryChat
Brad, K-5 Music, from Kansas. One of my goals is to harness/master the technology opportunities that already exist in my classroom setting for the betterment of my students. #MasteryChat
Hello again, friends! Alex Valencic, 21st Century Teaching and Learning Coordinator in Freeport, IL, looking forward to learning about HyperDocs with all y'all! My #EdTech goal for the year is to get more of my @FSD145 pretzel fam on one of these chats!#MasteryChat
A1: I consider a hyperdoc a way to house and curate content and learning. It is not a purely multiple choice/rote learning activity; students can create and innovate as part of their learning! #masterychat
A1/ Hyperdocs are fabulous docs that link to a world of wonder .I love when people share their templates and we get #bettertogether and help students 💕#MasteryChat
Welcome to #masterychat! Sounds like you have a busy year ahead of you. If you ever want someone to geek out about tech with, let me know. :) I always love to chat and brainstorm together. #Masterychat
A1. #MasteryChat HyperDocs are not just documents loaded with hyperlinks - although I'm here tonight bc I'm not quite sure how to create one that isn't just that. #hyperdocs
A1. Most think a Hyperdoc is an interactive document. Its more than that. Its a way to full engage the students. A great way to differentiate your instruction.
#masterychat
A1: a HyperDoc is the hub for a unit of study. It is designed so students can work at their own pace, see and explore different areas of study, and have built in remediation if needed. A HyperDoc is NOT (imo) a substitute for HQ instruction. #masterychat
Salutations from KC, MO (#LetsRoll)! I’m Nathan Perry and I teach 8th grade Us History. This year I want to learn how to implement code in SS. #MasteryChat
A1: I’ve dabbled with them in a bit. Current definition? Interactive, living doc with links...a #hyperdoc is NOT a ditto typed into Google :) #MasteryChat
A1: HyperDocs, a transformative, interactive Google Doc replacing the worksheet method of delivering instruction, is the ultimate change agent in the blended learning classroom. Need more info.
#MasteryChat
The best way to start is to base it on good lesson design- Explore/Explain/Apply...making decisions about how to package those parts of a lesson to meet all your Ss needs is important. #MasteryChat
My professor sends out weekly Hyperdocs, so based on those, a Hyperdoc is a list of assignments with multiple resources/links (i.e., readings, podcasts, blogposts) that help us to complete each assignment. These include individual & group work! #MasteryChat
A1: Hyperdocs aren't just hyperlinks to info, they house, inspire and initiate further inquiry and learning. When the magic happens, they build 21C habits like collaboration and communication. #masterychat
A1: document that as links to other docs and online resources. Others have access to, can edit and access at time. Non linear. Not hyperdoc- one that sits in your folder, untitled and unshared... 😂😂😂 #MasteryChat
A1: A hyperdoc is basically a modernized webquest which help guide students through lessons via weblinks. It is not a hyperdoc when it is just a glorified worksheet. #masterychat
I LOVE this goal, Vic! Tech integration is never the goal- it is the tool we use to support learning on a global, transformational, and insanely effective level. I'd love to chat sometime about what you are working on in your school! Tech integration is my jam. :) #MasteryChat
My professor sends out weekly Hyperdocs, so based on those, a Hyperdoc is a list of assignments with multiple resources/links (i.e., readings, podcasts, blogposts) that help us to complete each assignment. These include individual & group work! #MasteryChat
A1)A Hyperdoc is a learning opportunity that allows the users the opportunity to explore and leave their own Spi in what is being learned. It is NOT a document full of hyperlinks akin to a point and click worksheet. #masterychat
A1: A hyperdoc is not a worksheet, if we are not careful, it can become a glorified worksheet. A hyperdoc is a fusion of a doc or ladies that gives students choice and allows for Ss to be self paced! #MasteryChat
A1: What hyperdocs aren’t: docs with hyperlinks throughout. What they are, are docs where students can interact with peers and/or adults. Along with my resolution in my intro, I also want to get into the implementation of hyperdocs #MasteryChat
A2 Transformation in Ed is about not fitting a square peg into a circular hole. Traditional Ed is the square peg- the circular hole is the direction that Ed needs to go. The same tools won't work in the new world we live in- HyperDocs are one way to bridge that gap! #MasteryChat
I like how you said "inspire and initiate further inquiry and learning." What educator, or school leader, wouldn't want that for their students? #masterychat
A2 - Transformation can take many forms as educators #teachbetter everyday. Hyperdocs truly changed the efficiency and engagement of my students by removing barriers, centralizing content, and increasing engagement #masterychat
A1: I think transformation is going from teaching our kids in an industrial age and into a 21st century. I haven't used many in my classroom, but I'm all ears! #masterychat
Wow- I am late again. Playing monster with the babies was to much fun to pass up! I’m an elementary principal from MO and excited to join in. #masterychat
I started making these slides presentations with activities and links for my students to explore. I had no idea I was making #hyperdocs until one of my Instructional tech classes #masterychat
A2: HyperDocs have worked well w/ my Ss BC I have such a wide variety of learners. My Ss crave tech song is is a way for me give them what they want (student voice and choice) and HQ content. #masterychat
A2 #hyperdocs have helped me create flipped classroom scenarios & allowed Ss to work at their own pace. Problem I've run into is Ss going straight to answers w/o looking at the resources provided on the doc! #MasteryChat
A1: Hyperdocs ARE interactive online documents that require educators to be intentional with pedagogy.
Hyperdocs ARE NOT worksheets transferred to an online document. #Masterychat
#masterychat A2 Just from what I've read, when you create links in a document it can be considered a hyperdoc. This allows to add more than text in a document. In a way, my book "The Story of Always Believe" is a hyperdoc. There are links in it that brings up multimedia.
Hi fellow super teachers! I’m Kristy a HS math teacher in NJ. My goal for this year is incorporating more technology into stations and increasing student collaboration and discourse with technology #MasteryChat
A2)I think that it transforms education into a conversation. As learners explore, they can leave additional interesting links, ideas, etc. in essence linking all its learners in a continuous conversation. #masterychat
A #hyperdoc is not just a doc of instructions with links and it’s not a digital worksheet. It contains inquiry, exploration, opportunities to collaborate, give and receive feedback, and personalization. It’s high-impact in a small package. #hypeitlikeitshot#masterychat
Hello! I’m Jen Manly and I’m a CS teacher in Maryland. My EdTech New Year resolution is to only use EdTech in ways that enhance learning - never just to check the “using technology” box. #masterychat#hyperdocs
A2: When we look into modern classrooms the shift is from a teacher in the front, neat rows, and give and get to collaboration, choice, and teachers observing and supporting! Ss are explorers! #MasteryChat
We need to help Ss understand that as Ts we WANT those conversations to happen & that we don't just want to stand in front of a room & drone on!
#MasteryChat
Sara here from the great state of Texas. It's going to be 70 tomorrow with a low of 19 Saturday night! Brrrrr. I teach 6th-8th grade GT ELA, and I have a professional goal of integrating more tech in my classes this semester! #masterychat
A1: HyperDocs are documents that contain lessons with interactive and innovative qualities that allow students to self pace. They get allow for creation and application of knowledge. A Hyperdoc isn’t a digital substitution, a Webquest, or a mere worksheet. #MasteryChat
A2: Learning is more personal. Ss choose what they want to learn, how they learn it, when and how assessed. Hyperdocs can be used to house all of these messy parts. Ss can use to discover on own and communicate learning/ thinking. #MasteryChat
A2 HyperDocs/Slides have the possibility of engaging students in:
🤩Inquiry
🤩Exploration
🤩Creation
🤩Innovation
🤩Collaboration
🤩Discussion
🤩Transformation
🤩Participation
#masterychat
A1: I think transformation is going from teaching our kids in an industrial age and into a 21st century. I haven't used many in my classroom, but I'm all ears! #masterychat
A1: hyper docs sound just like our echo system thru #newtech. Teachers can put activities that allow groups of students to work through the problems even if they are not in class.
#MasteryChat
A2: A hyperdoc allows students to be the driver of their learning and to take their learning into a new direction that maybe even the teacher didn't think about #masterychat
Its more than that. Its about intentionally designing a lesson to meet the needs of all students- way more than a playlist! Here is a math one- https://t.co/1GuOxSWMjg#MasteryChat
a2: transformative learning is voice and choice. #hyperdocs give students guided control of their learning. They can choose different ways to access information and choice on how to demonstrate learning. At least in my class #MasteryChat
A1: Like a hyper child that bounces around, you can bounce around a #hyperdoc created. Ss use 21st century skills accessing information, links, tasks, etc... Ss can collaborate w/other Ss & T on it using an electronic platform. #MasteryChat
A2: Transformation looks like the students taking more control of their learning and less teacher driven. Hyperdocs can assist in this transformation because collaboration doesn’t necessarily end up being oral but instead via tech #MasteryChat
We have to build the capacity in them to help build hyperdocs. Tell them we want these conversations across time and space. Participate as part of the learning community and not just as the leader or the facilitator. Let the Ss take the lead. #masterychat
A2 Transformstion to me takes innovation. Figuring out new ways to make things more efficient and better. Hyoerdocs is brings your lesson into one central hub and helps with efficiency and engagement. #masterychat
Yes! You have just hit the nail on the head with one of my biggest education pet peeves. Tech for tech's sake is pretty useless. It can do so much more than that &, when we just use it as an add-on, we can actually negatively impact learning! #MasteryChathttps://t.co/JQfCGSZsnp
A1 HyperDocs are filled with links to other documents, images, websites, text video...They are not boring, fill in the blank worksheets
They are meaningful, interactive, and engaging
#MasteryChat
#masterychat - A2 - Transformation is taking yourself out from the front of the room and no longer being the gatekeeper of learning. It looks like moving from T to S -centered learning.
Check out my @eschoolnews column - Blending My Practice - for more:
https://t.co/nmQBKplmrZ
A2: I feel like classrooms are now transforming from “student-centered” to “student-led.” While student centered classrooms are awesome, true ownership of learning happens when Ss are leading the experience, with their T as facilitator. #masterychat
A2 I have not used hyperdocs...YET. I'm excited to put them into play for the 3rd nine weeks! They will transform learning in my class because my students will have more choice and ownership in their learning. #masterychat
A2: In my professor's hyperdocs, there are 6 sections: Engage, Explore, Explain, Apply, Share, and Reflect! In each is a different type of assignment, I feel like it's more about what I takeaway from the resources rather than getting something right or wrong. #MasteryChat
A2: T's no longer are the keepers of all the knowledge. Students now have choices about what they learn and when. Teachers are now support and guides to assist Ss in their learning experience. #masterychat
A2 Transformation is not substitution! Whereas we might have resources limited by page numbers and brick and mortar walls, hyperdocs create limitless spaces and endless possibilities #MasteryChat
Its not a HyperDoc unless it guides a student through a lesson- first Exploring content (what you shared is a part of a HD), then the explanation, the Applying knowledge- it is the complete lesson, not just consuming of tech. #MasteryChat
I feel like we have to teach parents/guardians about what Ts are looking for from Ss in the classroom these days to. Some feel confused bc school doesn't look like they remember it! #masterychat
A2 Added to that it transforms learning by providing students choice in content, process, pace & product-it could truly be transformative if students voice was valued and amplified in the design of the HyperDoc and they had input into content, process, pace & product #MasteryChat
What I love most is that strategically planned #hyperdocs can reach every single kid through tiered pathways. One of the greatest ways to differentiate and provide engaging remediation. I could go on and on and on here. #hypeitlikeitahot#masterychat
@VNixon1988 and I were just talking about this. #EdTech for tech's sake is not only ineffective, it can actually be a detriment to learning! Using it well, however, can really rock the socks off of "traditional" lessons. #MasteryChat
A2: HyperDocs have changed the way I deliver content, meet my specific student's needs and how kids experience learning. Longer story than 240 char!! #MasteryChat
It’s the exploring my Ss struggle with. They are new to #hyperdocs and keep jumping to the end without the steps. Then they say mrs S I don’t get this question! Bcz they are on reflect 5 minutes In #masterychat
My impression so far is that a hyperdoc is very similar to the Workspace that @hapara_team made, except that the hyper doc is literally an interactive doc instead of a webpage. #masterychat
A2) hyperdocs can help students self pace with teacher as facilitator rather than teacher disseminating information. The teacher as mentor/facilitator can be #transformative#MasteryChat
So, can anyone clarify how hyperdocs are similar to and different from LiveBinders? I used to use LiveBinders all of the time, but we don't see them as much anymore. (Trying to wrap my head around this all! Thanks for sharing.) #masterychat
#MasteryChat A2 - Hyper docs have helped transform my classroom so that my students can more easily make connections between each lesson - They also allow for blended learning so that more can be accomplished through PBL during class time
I LOVE this explanation! Using #edtech in education doesn't mean students are isolated, staring at a screen. Using it well means that we get so many more opportunities to know and interact with each student on an individual level and help them grow! #MasteryChat
A2)I think that it transforms education into a conversation. As learners explore, they can leave additional interesting links, ideas, etc. in essence linking all its learners in a continuous conversation. #masterychat
Oh yes...I tend to slow them down and do more blended style...on tech for the Explore, off tech for the Explain and then back on for the Apply! #MasteryChat I leave links off until Im ready too!
I feel like we have to teach parents/guardians about what Ts are looking for from Ss in the classroom these days to. Some feel confused bc school doesn't look like they remember it! #masterychat
A3: Some students watching videos, some students designing, some students recording, some students writing, some students reading, some students moving rapidly, some students moving slowly, etc. #masterychat
A3 I want to hear from admin on this! I got burned in an observation because my Ss were on the reflection stage of a #hyperdoc and admin didn’t “get” the lesson #masterychat
A3: I would see Ss glued to their screens, but if I walked in to the cyber world. I would see Ss collaborating and learning from each other. I would differentiated instruction and endless possibilities! Ss playing games or watching videos. #masterychat
A3: Student exploration, and Ss filled with excitement while also having discussions focused on the information they found compared with other classmates. #masterychat
A3. A well designed lesson would result in a high level of student engagement—highlighted by students interacting and serving as resources for one another. A vibrant and authentic learning environment. #MasteryChat
Love those goals! Any thoughts on how you will work towards the collaboration goal? There are a lot of options- so omany it can be overwhelming to figure out where to start. #MasteryChat
A3: My expectation will be that teachers are engaged with guiding student learning rather than just explaining and re-explaining directions ad nauseum. The hyperdoc had all of the directions and explanations right there for students. #masterychat
A3: You would see Ss working on multiple parts of the doc. Teacher circulating and helping small pods of Ss. Ss exploring, creating, and working together when appropriate. #MasteryChat
#masterychat - A3 - It would look like students working through self-paced activities (individual and collaborative) while the teacher provides intentional instruction in small groups.
A3: everybody’s screen looks diff. Everyone on a diff step, learning using a diff resource. One tab is the main hyperdoc. All other tabs are completely diff. #MasteryChat
#masterychat A3 Student driven learning where the teacher is facilitating and not leading the instruction. The students are learning from the digital content.
A2
Students actively engaged in obtaining knowledge and skills using critical thinking and communication skills
The teacher is the facilitator
The students take ownership of their learning Hyperdocs let students take the wheel
#MasteryChat
Absolutely! I think the key is knowing where tech would enhance the lesson and then choosing the best tool, rather than getting so excited about a tool that you “just have to” use it on any lesson. #masterychat
#Preach! An online worksheet isn't much differnt than a paper worksheet. I LOVE the emphasis on being intentional with pedagogy, @n8than_thomas!
#MasteryChat
A1: Hyperdocs ARE interactive online documents that require educators to be intentional with pedagogy.
Hyperdocs ARE NOT worksheets transferred to an online document. #Masterychat
A3: Ss in all different parts of the room working on different things. Some Ss watching videos, some Ss playing games, some Ss creating a poster but all Ss talking. Collaboration is key! #MasteryChat
A3: From what I am gathering, I think I would see students working in diverse learning groups or solo. They clearly are engaged in exploring resources provided by the teacher. One question I have: Is Hyperdocs predominantly for one-to-one device classrooms? #masterychat
We just did a webinar for parents too! You can share this with them- Kelly and I both speak about learning with HyperDocs- https://t.co/AajCVcROlk#MasteryChat
A3: Students learning all at different levels and stages. Some would be in the engagement, some in reflection, some in analysis. Hyperdocs put the students in control of their own learning. #MasteryChat
A3 I would expect to see Ss reflecting on their learning and engaged in a process that allows the S to apply their learning. Collaboration with other Ss and the T would also happen! #masterychat
That's 1 reason why, when I am using #TheGridMethod w/Hyperdocs, I always have an additional formative check before Ss move on to further learning opportunities. Often, this is just a verbal confirmation that they understand through a 1-2 min conversation with them. #Masterychat
I am about to create something similar to this that links students to my tutorial videos to help them study for the Algebra I STAAR Test given this spring. #masterychat
That is a key part there Bill. Ts circulating and supporting Ss. Imagine the deep conversations, and learning moments, that a teacher could have with students during this time! #masterychat
A3: Some Ss rapidly working while some motion to others to collaborate more closely, others at their own pace, different screens, and no one sitting in boredom! #MasteryChat
A3 SMILES! A love of learning, exploration, discovery, reflection, collaboration happening on a larger scale, students asking good questions, discussions, body language that shows students are excited about what they are learning. #MasteryChat
A2. Transformation in today’s classroom focuses on developing Ss who can problem solve & create new things through collaboration. They are not passive learners regurgitating facts & figures. There are many solutions to a problem. Creativity is key. #masteryChat
We love to do staff HyperDocs and admin lessons, to model how it feels to learn in this way! Helps to explain...I do them with parents too! #MasteryChat
A3: I would see children working on different tasks, maybe alone or maybe collaborating. I'd also see the teacher checking on her students or altering assignments where she sees necessary. Hyperdocs give room for personalization & kids can work at a comfortable pace. #masterychat
A2: Gary, a trainer for character, utilizing hyperdocs for on-going support & PD with Ts. The docs allow Ts to personalize PD with links to short presentations, video clips, activities to do in class & assessment. Even includes a conversation log #MasteryChat

Thank you for sharing your article, Lisa. I am excited to read it. Just this week heard I numerous parent complaints (via colleagues) abt parents having no idea what kids are even learning. In part, I think it's the mix of tech that the parents didn't have in school. #masterychat

It is a great way to build community with a staff too! I always tell Admin, the teachers are your students! Here is an example of one- https://t.co/Rtxdk3HRRQ#MasteryChat
In reply to
@DayRene15, @ADDEnglishTeach, @mamawolfeto2
#MasteryChat A3 - You might expect to see kids solely engaged with a computer screen - but that should not be the case - collaboration / conversation / communication should be evident / students walking around Sharing their learning with one another
A3: Agentic engagement is highest form! Students drivingtneir own learning by contributing by their own volition during lesson...not for a grade or compliance. #MasteryChat
A4: The biggest benefit for me is speed. I teach MS math and my Ss get concepts at different speeds and using a Hyperdoc allows my faster Ss to move on and my slower Ss to keep working. It is completely self-paced #MasteryChat
I know I can do more to communicate with parents. I have some very motivated guardians out there who would love to help their kids learn Spanish - Now I need to take the steps to show them how to teach a bit at home. #masterychat
A4 - A hyperdoc requires action on the part of the student as opposed to a more passive experience like lecture or traditional worksheets. #masterychat
A4 A hyperdoc is more interactive. It also allows for a student to back up and review the skill before moving on to a new level. It also takes students, that may be ready, to knew levels while the teacher can reteach or give more support to others. #masterychat
A4: As a SPED teacher, the greatest benefit is that Ss can work at their own pace and no one feels the pressure to be on the same “page” as others! My Ss always worry about not being able to “keep up” so self-pacing is GREAT!! #MasteryChat
A4: We need to get teachers off the stage and out of our students' way. We need more guiding and less blabbing. I hope that using hyperdocs can help get to that point. #masterychat
A4: benefits let me see..... EVERYTHING!!!!!
1. Differentiated Instruction.
2. Self - pacing
3. Collaboration
4. Enrichment
5. Engagement
6. Less behavior issues
7. Intervention time
So much more.... #masterychat
A4: Hyperdocs are meant to be intentional in learning while allowing students the opportunity to learn at their own pace and in various ways. Trad learning is: read a document, answer Qs, etc.
#Hyperdocs use video, pictures, sounds, various interactive sites, etc. #MasteryChat
A4: My favorite part of kids learning on a HyperDoc is that I get away from the front of the room and am able to connect with my students, to help meet their needs, emotional or educational! #MasteryChat AND they are working on meaningful work, not busy work!
A4)Worksheets are static. As our understanding of the world changes, the information with which we teach our kids needs to be updated. Using hyperdocs allows this information to be updated easily. #masterychat
Another huge benefit is differentiation. I have a handful of students with different curriculum standards. They can get the same/similar material without being singled out #masterychat
#masterychat A4 Hyperdocs create a more student centered learning environment where the teacher facilitates the learning. Students will learn at their own pace. ( In theory ).
A4. There are no inherent benefits to hyperlinks or any other technology. What there are instead is potential. Potential to differentiate, scaffold, facilitate student interaction and/or promote student choice. It’s not the tool; it’s how we dig. #MasteryChat
A4: My favorite part of kids learning on a HyperDoc is that I get away from the front of the room and am able to connect with my students, to help meet their needs, emotional or educational! #MasteryChat AND they are working on meaningful work, not busy work!
A4: I haven’t played with HyperDocs yet, but I think with every form of EdTech, we have to be careful to not just “techifying” a worksheet. A worksheet delivered in a web-based format is still a worksheet - just a bit fancier (this happens a lot in Google Classroom) #masterychat
#masterychat - A4 - With a hyperdoc, you can give a variety of instructions and have students access a variety of apps for practice and collaboration. Without a central interactive place to find all of the instructions, management and differentiation via pace would be impossible
Q4 I co-teach an ELA & SS class and my colleague and I have found hyperdocs are beneficial for interdisciplinary learning. While I add activities that focus on the lit and inform texts, he is able to add maps, videos, and activities that work with the novel. #masterychat
A4: Students seeing that they can work comfortably without the constant pressure to "keep up" is so awesome. I believe this will spark their interest for learning and build self-confidence. #MasteryChat
A4: The benefit for me is the flexibility it provides and opportunities for student collaboration. It’s also easier to create self paced lessons with almost much quicker feedback. #masteryChat
A4 Privacy is a huge benefit. If a Ss Doc has been customized for them, no one else needs to know. Maybe their text is a lower level this provides that safety and comfort for the S. Brings flexibility and less lectures as well .#masterychat
A4: I have many EAL Ss who struggle to get all the info from a lecture style presentation. Hyperdocs has allowed them to understand the material better and translate into their home language if needed. #MasteryChat
A2: Any time I hear transformation I think SAMR model. #hyperdocs are giving Ss a chance to interact so much more w/content. It’s differentiation at its best & allows for so many options for both Ts and Ss. #MasteryChat
A4 Benefits
Students are engaged and can't wait for learning when HyperDocs provide the possibilities for student led learning where they take responsibility for their own learning and contribute to the learning process on many different levels
#masterychat
I agree...I encourage Ts to use them only when they can solve an issue in their classrooms- supporting ELLs, UDL, building community, critical thinking skills- otherwise they are the same as a worksheet. #MasteryChat
A4. When the hyper doc is designed for student engagement, your Ss are in control of the info, not relying on you as the gatekeeper of info. They set to pick areas to focus on instead of the prescribed curriculum points. #MasteryChat
I liked this, "it's how we dig." Making learning more personally meaningful to our students should be the purpose for using all resources in the classroom. #masterychat
A4. There are no inherent benefits to hyperlinks or any other technology. What there are instead is potential. Potential to differentiate, scaffold, facilitate student interaction and/or promote student choice. It’s not the tool; it’s how we dig. #MasteryChat
A3: Students working at their own pace, collaboration, various levels of differentiation, extension activities to meet every learners’ needs. #hyperdocs#MasteryChat
I keep saying too that we could use some concrete solutions to what we are challenged to accomplish w Ss....this is just one possible solution! #MasteryChat
You ever go down a rabbit hole on Wikipedia? Clicking links upon links on a particular subject? Imagine that and all its infinite possibilities. #masterychat
A4: WOW! Being able to access another document, video, website, picture, graph, or any supporting resource is SOOOO much easier than a boring old work packet! #MasteryChat 📝🚫...🖥️🖱️😎
Transformation looks like the students engaging in a productive struggle with the content, with the teacher as a guide. The students do most of the work and a large amount of the talking as opposed to the teacher. #masterychat
A4: I also see Ss discovering many platforms to learn and share their learning! Through blogposts, articles, podcasts, video clips, and more! #MasteryChat
And like we said earlier, sometimes worse! Any form of tech takes more planning time (which is wasted if it’s not effective), might limit the amount of feedback a T gives, etc. Even when a tool is cool, we should still be critical of WHEN we use it. #masteryChat
Q3. I just want to hear Ss wanting to pull me over to their station and share with me all the ideas that resonated with them. That’s how students build learning g pathways. It sparks learning. #MasteryChat
Just like all tools in educationist think there is a time and a place for hyperdocs. They are a tool in teaching; they are not the teacher. #MasteryChat
A5 - Hyperdocs are a great way to differentiate! You can provide choices, options or various levels of reading in a single document and remove barriers to access content by centralizing your content in single place. #masterychat
A4 Benefits
I'm not if it's been said but HyperDocs provides opportunity for differentiation and enables access for all learners - through visual means & choices in a range of learning - Low Floor/High ceiling #masterychat
I agree...the rich formative assessment opportunities I design in my HyperDocs allows me to really 'study' my students and make decisions about meeting their needs WHILE they are in a project rather than when they turn the final product in. #MasteryChat
A4 Hyperdocs also works in an inclusion setting like special education/ENL. I am able to incorporate many visuals, videos, music, etc to support ALL learners. #MasteryChat
Yes you do! Are you familiar with it? There is a free course on how to structure your units for mastery learning with #thegridmethod at https://t.co/mBXu8hthAy
I'd also be glad to connect with you and talk through it if you are interested. :) #Masterychat
A5 Definitely helps with differentiation because we can offer choices, but it also allows a student to back as much as necessary to understand. They don't have to feel embarrassed to ask a question because the resource is at their fingertips. #masterychat
A5 I kind of answered this but you privately invidualize a students doc. Anytime we give them something where they can facilitate their learning engagement happens. It’s all how the T goes about the craft. #masterychat
#masterychat - A5 - With google classroom, you can easily assigned leveled docs to different groups of Ss. Also, differentiation via pace itself is a powerful way to increase student engagement because it puts the Ss back in control of their own learning.
A5: Hyperdocs allow you to include various learning mediums. With the ability to insert video clips, links to podcasts, virtual museums, etc., differentiation is endless. It’s also provides Ts the ability to provide multiple engagement strategies. #MasteryChat
A5- You can have ss create a hyperdoc. You can also create different hyper docs that match students needs. Since ss are exploring you can have more teacher check ins with ss that need that.
#masterychat
A5: Classrooms are not one size fits all in terms of instruction. The high flyers get bored, those who struggle get behind, and both get frustrated. Hyperdocs allow for self-paced exploration and mastery of material. #MasteryChat
Tonight's #MasteryChat was fantastic!! We want to keep the conversation going - please join us this Sunday night 8pm EST for #edChatRI. We will be talking about those critical first few years for teachers, and finding strategies to keep awesome talent in our classrooms longer!
One way to get started- find a HyperDoc you like, just make a copy and edit to fit your needs...be sure to give the original author credit and add your name to the bottom too! #MasteryChat
Speaking and listening are such important skills that often get pushed to the side- isn't it cool when you see the positive effect of actually focusing on them? @SkypeClassroom is a good option for connecting beyond your classroom! #MasteryChat
In reply to
@kristybraschi, @Flipgrid, @gosynth, @SkypeClassroom
A5: I teach a supported class and the other day we did a whole group lesson. At the end one S said "When do we go back to the self-paced work that is much better?" It has been a game changer with differentiation for all Ss #MasteryChat
A5 Hyperdocs provides the possibility of teachers focussing on assessment for learning as they are engaged in student learning on a more personal level - this provides the opportunity to see where support & differentiation is required for every student #masterychat
A5
Hyperdocs are a natural fit for personaluzed learning & differentiation
Add choices for ss
Give them opportunities to add their own links as they investigate a topic
Allow for different time parameters for completion
Modify the information for various levels
#MasteryChat
A4: Being able to help students! In my class of 28, it is nearly impossible to get to every student in one period. This cuts down on their wait time because they are moving onto other things. #MasteryChat
A5. Off the bat as a NYC educator, information is so easily translatable. That is one huge barrier removed. No need to buy translated novels bc documentaries and documents are in native language. #MasteryChat
One way to get started- find a HyperDoc you like, just make a copy and edit to fit your needs...be sure to give the original author credit and add your name to the bottom too! #MasteryChat
A6 - I think good pedagogy and lesson design come before any component of tech design. Applying things like engaging content, differentiation, #udl, or formative assessment which would be in all quality instruction would also be present in a hyperdoc experience. #masterychat
Engagement through voice and choice embedded in the hyperdoc lesson. Hyperdoc Choiceboards are an excellent way to accomplish this. #hyperdocs@DocWLHPlatt#masterychat
#hyperdocs allow for students to contribute how larger topics relate to their understanding of the world and how they fit in it. Connects their thinking with others without forcing everyone to do the same thing. #masteryChat
We need alt questions for wannabe-HD users, haha :)
In reading over some introductory info, it seems like there’s a ton of opportunity to offer student choice. There’s also the ability to create different HDs for different students - with the same sharing links. #masterychat
A5 I like to create branching paths for students. Links in a HyperDoc lead students to one place, their progress on that learning opportunity leads them to another. So students follow the path THEY need to master the content. #masterychat
A5: I think trust between Ts and Ss is crucial, where Ts & Ss can have conversations about what works best and where Ss feel comfortable going to their T about what's working/what's not #MasteryChat
A6 - I think good pedagogy and lesson design come before any component of tech design. Applying things like engaging content, differentiation, #udl, or formative assessment which would be in all quality instruction would also be present in a hyperdoc experience. #masterychat
A6 I want the students to engage and explore the topic...explain their understanding and apply their learning - and I LOVE their reflections #masterychat
A3 I'd want to see Ss on-task-edly engaged with a variety of learning and practice exercises. At least 2 modalities being explored by different kids, depending on their choice. #masterychat
A6)I really think it depends on the Ss. Really the task is to make something relevant and meaningful to them so you have to tailor it to their needs. One size doesn’t fit all. #masterychat
A5- You can have ss create a hyperdoc. You can also create different hyper docs that match students needs. Since ss are exploring you can have more teacher check ins with ss that need that.
#masterychat
A5: Hyperdocs allows for student voice and student choice in their learning. You can modify the learning path for various levels, and provide students extra support while circulating. #masterychat
That's so true! I'm watching kids in my class right now so engaged they can't wait to extend their learning...and come up with new ideas, too! #masterychat
#masterychat - A6 - In math, it is important to have students work collaboratively on problem solving as well as have the opportunity for Ss to explore the conceptual understandings of the math beyond just the numbers.
A math hyperdoc shouldn't just be a problem delivery system.
Q7 What is your BEST advice for getting started with using a HyperDoc or creating them? OR, if you don't use them yet, what are you still wondering about HyperDocs? #MasteryChat#hyperdocs
A6 motivation, learning targets, so students understand the expectation of the lesson, direct instruction/modeling, group activities/collaboration, formative assessments, reflection. #masterychat

Engagement for sure...gotta hook’em. Exploration is also up there, as well as reflective components to put the pieces together and provide closure. #hyperdocs#masterychat
A5) Hyperdocs presents a medium to include support Ts and Departments into differentiating...Special Ed, Bilingual, Counseling, etc can all add their piece to support any Ss learning needs #MasteryChat
Q7 What is your BEST advice for getting started with using a HyperDoc or creating them? OR, if you don't use them yet, what are you still wondering about HyperDocs? #MasteryChat#hyperdocs
A7 - JUST...DO IT! This is probably one of the easiest (if you already have the digital resources / access) to implement. Start small, but just go for it! #masterychat#teachbetter
A7: Start small. Create a hyperdoc for a lesson or two. Ask your Ss for input on what they liked and what they didn't like so you can alter for next time #MasteryChat

A7 Just DO it! Look around on @TsGiveTs , search #hyperdocs, and find one you like - #filemakeacopy, check the links and give it a try. You'll eventually jump in to make you own - you won't be able to help yourself! #masterychat
A7)The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Jump in with two feet. Don’t be afraid to let the Ss take the lead. Practice makes perfect. #masterychat
A6: Differentiation is king. If all students have the ability to access content, then collaboration, creation, and engagement naturally follow. When some Ss cannot access the content (ELLs, SPED, struggling learners), full class collaboration is not possible. #Masterychat
Q7 What is your BEST advice for getting started with using a HyperDoc or creating them? OR, if you don't use them yet, what are you still wondering about HyperDocs? #MasteryChat#hyperdocs
A6
They should be structured but visually interesting
There should be opportunities for ss to pause and check in with the teacher and reflect on the work they've completed at intermittent points
Ss need a check sheet to stay on task
They should be easy to navigate
#MasteryChat
My best advice- Start small- create one from a lesson you love or one that needs a makeover...do one a month! Then study the effects, slowly add them in WHEN they solve a learning goal #MasteryChat
A7: Based on all the wonderful responses, I'd say go for it but the key point is to keep your Ss in the loop, ask for their feedback (as a group & individually), and be ready to change #MasteryChat
A6 I think this depends on the focus of the learning:
Working scientifically
Working mathematically
Design thinking process
Inquiry learning process
Writing process
The arts process
Basically any process in the learning can by used as the elements for HyperDocs
#masterychat
Keep talking with others about this too! Our FB group is great for that- loads of support and talk around good learning. Reach out to me too! I love to share. #MasteryChat
A7: Check out @Blended_Math and everything he has to offer on his blog! (I don't know if he knows but he is the reason I started hyperdocs and self-paced learning)! So here is my THANK YOU! #MasteryChat

Just try it out at any capacity. There is no real wrong way. When creating #hyperdocs keep thinking in the back of your mind, what is this hyperdoc allowing my students to do that they could not do before. #masterychat

Also remember that your Ss will push back on this kind of learning- they may be used to passive vs active learning- lecture first- they say to me...oh just give the worksheet! They do get used to it and appreciate it, it's just more challenging thinking sometimes #MasteryChat
Going to ISTE19? We want to...will you vote for our HyperDoc session to be a part of it? https://t.co/rVLn8KUAMZ Sure would appreciate the support and hope to connect with you if you are there. #MasteryChat
A5: #MasteryChat being able to create & tailor a lesson/activity to specific Ss in content, process they follow on the #hyperdoc, and product they are asked to complete/submit are all ways to differentiate thru that platform!
A7 I made a copy of one that I really liked, with permission. Then I was able to use it with my students. I did tweak as needed. Model and make sure the directions are clear. #masterychat
A7 Dive in & have a go - you have nothing to lose by trying something out for the first time - there are plenty of resources online & find yourself a techie colleague who can support #masterychat
A7: there are tons of HyperDocs out there! Find one that applies and use it. Teachers love to share, take advantage of it. Get comfortable with them and then start creating your own! Don’t overwhelm yourself! Start small for sure. #MasteryChat
A7: Is there a source with a bunch of samples? In Googling, I’ve found a few examples, but they don’t seem to have as much choice (they’re very step by step). Would love to see a variety to see them in action across contents! #masterychat
A7: EXPERIMENT! My first two hyperdocs were a flop, but I have made three good ones after that. It’s okay to be honest with Ss that you are trying something new and would love their input! #masterychat
