A1. Magic looks like mystery. Wanting to know the secrets & trying to emulate. Practice makes perfect. https://t.co/bpeIuhTiG6
A1 will always produce magic in the class.
A1Magic is when a S let's their defenses down and gets to be a kid. The emotional baggage of poverty is left at home & they feel joy
A1) Magic is community: tears, laughter, failures, success, and growth in an individual and collective manner

A1. Students & teacher equally engaged.
A1 The magic is in the relationships with the teacher & among the students as well as quality & depth of the learning.
A1) Surprising the kids - whether with a lesson or your actions. Doing things to keep them excited about being there.
A1)Magic looks like H. Wong used to describe it.Kids producing so much they were wore out by the end of the day, teachers energized
A1: My 4th Gr teacher reading to us after recess. We traveled through the Wardrobe and more. We hated when we had to stop.
right here
https://t.co/3H6zNLW4l7

Done! Current temp here is -9!
A1: Magic happens when the connections are made. When they connect the dots. When you can see the learning happening.
a1: the magic is learning - real learning - not just giving memorized facts back to teacher.
Engaged learning between students and teacher with no pressure of learning material for the state test. https://t.co/9zDNf3mVYl
A1) Magic in the classroom looks seamless - a sightless vision of respect between students and educators.
ugh - we were in Iowa yesterday and it was a balmy 9 degrees…
A1: Magic is when I just walk around & listen to all the discussions Ss have about the content, student-led rather than teacher-led.
A1) I can probably post those magic pics all night
A1) a teacher building relationships with students.
A1b: A classroom experience kids talk about for years!
A1 When a kid doesn't even know he's learning bc he is so enthralled in the topic or activity. That is always my favorite.
A1) projects, weekend emails from excited kids and parents
Lori Wathen, parent and education advocate
A1 Magic is students developing a topic and creating the best essay they've ever written.
A1: mr frank v. Cooper's leadership class state TOY finalist in 2014! Unreal at building teamwork
a2) Engagement is not Magic.. just like true magicians it takes planning and practice.
A1) A classroom where everyone who passes by says "I want to be in that class!" And everyone inside can't help but make them jealous
Good evening! Ronda the parent finally back in the room.
magic is for Disney world. Relationships, engaged learners, and students with grit are what I want in my classroom
A1: Magic is when their P messages you telling you they're repeating the lesson at home on their own time. Teaching their sibling.
A1 Magic is watching a student grow and mature right before your eyes.
A2 Sometimes yes Other times kids lead, I follow. I like those times best
A1 Ss engaged, solving problems, working together, asking each other questions, me in the backseat more often
A2 Nothing happens without engagement. Learning without engagement is a drill, and likely to be unlearned.
A1 -magicians has a “bag of tricks” we must provide T’s with opportunities to add more tools to their bags. Training, sharing, etc
or that project you do because it was so amazing when you were a student, esp when it works with the new S's too
A1) magic is kids being allowed to learn as kids
A2) Teachers making a connection with students is the source of magic in the classroom
Hello, ! Elementary music teacher here. Can someone tell me how this conversation works? I've never joined in! Thanks!
dropping in late - Edmond School board member, parent, and coordinator!
A T that can use psych to the degree that S's just have fun & have no idea they are learning.
a2: I'd say so. If students aren't engaged (off task) then chances are they aren't learning.
just make sure you use the hashtag
A1) Magic is a S so shy she cries when asked to answer a Q getting up to lead class discussion because you built a safe community.
A2- yes, the students being engaged is what makes the magic.
A2: Relationships keep the magic alive.
A2: Absolutely! If Ss are not engaged, no real learning occurs. It's the foundation, but the rest of the structure is essential!
A1 When the only response you have when leaving the classroom as an administrator is WOW!
A2) Engagement must start with the teacher being I enthralled with her own content, its delivery, and potential impact.
A2 is engagement not the holly grail of education? If a content expert can't engage kids what good is their knowledge?
You've joined now! Just look for the questions and respond with in your answer! Welcome!
A2 I think engagement is sometimes confused with entertainment...but classes must have substance or what's the point?
A2: Relationships & build your "brand". Ppl come w/ curiosity & look for the magic = engagement. Fulfill expectation = maintain
A2) Mutual engagement is vital for the magic to occur in the classroom. Each must stay engaged actively to make it work.
A2 I think magic is when a T can spark interest in a topic, then stand back and let the Ss run with it.
Find the pic with the question on it. Then reply. If question 1, then reply A1: (your answer) Always put in your tweet!
A2) I think the foundation to the magic is building relationships with Ss and families
A1) my staff has worked so hard to increase engagement this yr, it's been magical to watch!! https://t.co/swbIqdd4RU
a2: important to note that compliance does not equal engagement.
A2: IMO foundation is the relationship and climate T builds & maintains w/Ss.
A2: While being dynamic is important, it can be a false lead to effective teaching. Foundation should be relationships.
A2: magic can happen even when a T slips into the background as the Ss can carry on what has been ignited-learning authentically
A2) No. The relationships are the foundation of the magic. If they don't trust, the engagement won't happen.
A1: sometimes it is students getting so into the lesson the T can step back and watch the magic.
You can lurk the hashtag and retweet or fave those comments you like. If you want to respond, use A1, A2, A3 and incl tag
A2. Sustained & passionate engagement builds deeper engagement.
Hi
Joining late. What a week.
Btw, love that tonight's chat is all about kids and classroom engagement.
. Engagement is easy when there is relevance and they students buy what your selling. https://t.co/CcUA6zWda0
A2- yes, the students being engaged is what makes the magic.
read Q posted answer with A # & incl so all can read, read wonderful o answers & enjoy welcome!
just look for the Q and answer with A# make sure and uncles the
A2) Yes. Kids trusted me to build my community (or didn't realize it happening) if I had them engaged
A2: Yes. Though it can be difficult.
A2 Ts need a solid, positive relationship with Ss
A2: Absolutely! I love reference to “turn up the propane!”
A2 - Magic is not “one trick”. It comprised of multiple layers of expertise. engagement/inquiry/student assessment/self assessment
A2- yes, vital component per this parents opinion.
the word you are looking for is “relationships” :-)
Stay strong! We're behind you! Ready to fight WITH you for our kids!
A3 PD is a big part of my job and I love to bring a little theater into my sessions. If I'm enjoying the session, Ts will too!
IMO No. The ability to empower students based on their vision of self & future is the magic https://t.co/U2n871PqaY
A3: I like how some of the best speakers use stories to engage and teach lessons. No different than the classroom.
I have had the honor of teaching a great group of 5th graders since October and it is magic
A2 the magic is building a relationship. When the Ss trust you, they will follow you over any hurdle if they know your with them.
A2: It's when the Ss carry on the engagement, the interest to learn ideas on their own, & to collaborate with others.
I read that as 7/4ths and thought "and no math." :D Then I re-read.
A3: It isn't about "you", it's about the "crowd". Know your audience & be a performance master
A2) T's need to learn what works for them and the classroom. Try other ideas until you find the one that works for you and your S's.
A1) that look when the lightbulb comes on!
A2: Sometimes the magic begins days or weeks earlier with a hook. Build anticipation and excitement. Play it up!
Q3: Tricks of the trade. How do they hook? How do they bring an audience back? How do they use humor/drama? https://t.co/lkrCk6zI80
A3 Leverage every possible tool available for student engagement. Engage and they will learn.
Like Ss thirsting for knowldg. Every lesson should have a blue dress moment that makes kids ask "what/why?!" https://t.co/5UXmj17H7t
A3) I often use storytelling "tricks" I've learned from reading and from Toastmasters.
A3: Most ppl that r good at what they do & inspire, love what they do... Learn 2 love ur job more each day https://t.co/uvYBxzSbg7
A3) like the video states, I think we can learn a lot from attending the churches and other community places of our families
A3) We can learn how important hands-on, collaborative activities are to the learning process.
a2 - magic is when my son gets explore and create a learning opportunity instead of writing, sitting, and listening!
A3: give the students the challenge! I do and they take it. I have had so much fun. I learn more everyday.
A3 contd you can't be afraid to look foolish (drama) and you have to grab the bull by the horns (rodeo)
I need to rejoin Toastmasters. I'll have to do that during the summer. LOL
A2: The hook is so important. If the hook is successful, the rest is gravy. Connect w/the Ss in a way they will engage.
A3 Car salesmen excel at convincing people they want things they didn't seek in the first place. https://t.co/j6h9jbxyTH
A3 captivating a target audience is essential. Learning from others encourages the change that brings excitement into the class.
A3 Not just business- Simon Sinek: If You Don't Understand People, You Don't Understand Business https://t.co/mJyQD28F24
I keep telling myself to go back. I learned so much, but haven't been in a few years except to visit.
I'm not afraid to look foolish. I am trying to find a colonial dress so that I can dress the part.
A3) We can use all the help we can get to reach kids to help become magical.
I'm afraid I would miss too much of the chat fiddling with my profile pic! I'll change it after the chat!
https://t.co/WXsdr5Sxei
A3 I view school as my church. I'm going to "preach" with passion, compassion, and hope. The Ss sense it. That draws them in to you
A3(b): ...& embrace your own quirks. Ss continually laugh at my NoCo STL pronunciations.
"waRsh" ;P
Dance should be included with the foolishness part for some of us! :)
A3: I imagine the common characteristics of what makes them engaging. Most likely their evident passion and/or humor.
A3 If you watch a TED Talk apparently we all need to learn to speak with a British accent!
A3) Show your S's that you are human. Have fun, make mistakes, show the S's life happens and you can't control everything.
A3- we need an "Inside the actor's studio", but for teaching. I always learn so much watching. And James Lipton rules!
A3) I think - what is it about a good TED talk that keeps me going and thinking. How can I do that? https://t.co/ZCpQuclYOo
A3: Toastmasters helped a lot with connecting to my audience, but we don't always need to entertain. Ss know this.
Simon Sinek has much to teach! Several great TED talks by Simon!
a3 - all the magic u need can come from letting the student take the lead and the teacher be the facilitator of the learning!
A3: Get Ss up and moving around, use humor, focus on interests, use technology, and give them hands-on activities.
A2: Caveat: engagement MUST be active
A1: Watching Ss use tech to overcome socio-economic barriers while Ts facilitate genuine and practice learning experiences
A3 I always feel like an actor while teaching. I want to connect with an audience and get them hooked on the story.
Indeed We used his talks to frame our school's mission & core values
A3: I use commercials and music a lot in my lessons bc they are experts at grabbing your attention or persuading you.
a3: teaching can sometimes be like selling ice to Eskimos - but somehow some t's can find a way to create demand. That's talent.
A3 - other professions embrace technology. T’s must also embrace technology to assist with engagement.
Q1: Magic in the classroom is seeing every student enthusiastic regardless of level and ability.
I play music from the Baroque period all day. I open each class with jokes.they move and groove around the classroom while I read.
A3 Get to know, like, and trust your audience, er students. Without that relationship, they will not listen.
A3) Treat people as peers and value different opinions/views
I find a learn to know more business terms to make my argument in their terms not mine.
A3 I think you can be entertaining all day long but if you don't make it relevant to Ss, then it won't matter
A3) Watch who/what engages them outside of class and take a few notes. I've learned a lot from who they are addicted to on YouTube
A3: We should be transparent with our goals & expectations for our classrooms!
A3. Showmanship, humor, passion
AND make a difference in so many different peoples lives, who will make a difference in others!
A3: sounds a bit shallow, but watch a few children's TV shows if teaching primary & sadly watch a bit of MTV if teaching teens
A1 when students point out connections between information above the content of the lesson...essentially, when they teach me!
A3: Think about TV commercials. You have to know your audience and sell them on your "product." Make the lure strong. Use humor!
Yup! Got to get into the part, even if it's the part of conductor on that train that leaves Chicago @ 2 a.m. https://t.co/pzmll4gEp8
A3 I always feel like an actor while teaching. I want to connect with an audience and get them hooked on the story.
A1) Magic has more of a sound in my room. It's the sound of s's coming together and understanding the music.
Yes!!! Know what they like, reach them where they are when you can... https://t.co/RSRJ3b57Ej
A3) Watch who/what engages them outside of class and take a few notes. I've learned a lot from who they are addicted to on YouTube
A3: truly listen to the students. Sometimes they can really take the subject to "that" next level.
Q2: To answer question 2, yes I absolutely agree that engagement is the key!
AMEN! I want to be like Rita Pierson
A4) I need students to move toward a goal - the phrase “because I tell you to” bothers me though…
A4 Yes you can't manufacture that situation. You can set the stage, but the players have to participate https://t.co/WQtu70CXSC
a3 -Odessey of the Mind - amazing how smart kids are when you let them figure out things - been floored @ the 7 boys I am coaching!
Let them guide sometimes... It's their learning isn't it??? https://t.co/5XTx4DV0bS
A3: truly listen to the students. Sometimes they can really take the subject to "that" next level.
A4) I'm not sure we've ever found the magic if that's the expectation.
I think that if you have passion and enthusiasm for what you do - magic is nearby.
A4: Yes, Ss turn off when we try to force engagement: trying too hard is obvious, passion will bring them around!
A4: That is an unrealistic expectation. In a perfect world maybe. Not in 5th grade. Sometimes I have to stand on my head.
A4 - A good T (magician), would not have the expectation that S’s will be engaged, because we say so.
When I was a kid, I couldn't stand when an adult said "b/c I said so"...must be my problem w/ authority https://t.co/xq2RUWabRa
A4) I need students to move toward a goal - the phrase “because I tell you to” bothers me though…
Often the stories are relatable, or relevant to the audience
a4: teaching with with the expectation that s's will be engaged w/out deliberate effort on your part, you isn't teaching
I know I said it too…but every time I was like - ugh - I sound like my parents….
A4) We have to know our Ss to be able to understand if they are engaged. It doesn't just happen. That's the craft of teaching.
A4 We have to shoulder the responsibility of creating the magic & not get mad at the S's when we fail to engage them.
A2: engagement is definitely important for magic to happen. If s's aren't feeling it, the interpretation of music loses something.
Valarie Farrow, AP Tulsa jumping in late after mopping muddy paw prints off of floors I will
A4 engagement can't be demanded. The world is full of distractions you have to be better than the distraction.
A4) I'm not engaged in this chat because you told me to. It's about me as the learner, my priorities, choices. So we educate choice
A4: Everyone has bad days. Sometimes I just don’t feel like listening. Imagine a kid, each day, 6-7 different teachers.
A4) As a T we should lose excitement with that mindset. T-ing is like SNL you have the skeleton script but Ss direct your acting.
A4- not every minute of the day is going to be magic for every s, but what is dull for one might be magical for another
A4: Think in terms of teacher PD. No diff w/ Ss. Autonomy and choice are imp for buy-in. There must be meaning for the learner.
A4: if S were engaged just bc you told them to be then you wouldn't put much effort in teaching them. Ss need to challenge us.
a3 - last one - talk to HS students - ask what is important to them - you will be amazed!
A4) Didn't that go out when "the Beav" graduated in about 1970?
I think the best performer, also connects with their audience. to connect, you must know the students
right? But moving them along in a way that allows them to enjoy and want to take that next step(s)
a4 we have to get rid of this attitude in schools: "it's my job to teach; and your job to learn"
Total "Snoopy Effect"
Wawa-wawa-wawa
Can you blame them? https://t.co/YLt1P0yJJa
A4: Everyone has bad days. Sometimes I just don’t feel like listening. Imagine a kid, each day, 6-7 different teachers.
A4 My Ss are engaged because I am. If I'm excited, so are they. They know if I'm excited than this must be great stuff.
A4) Yes. Don't expect your S' to be engaged. Make the lesson engaging. Use tech. and other devices that capture the S's attention.
Many Ads also touch your heart...when we plan experiences for our Ss, they see how much we care. https://t.co/QPmsk0npdY
A3: Think about TV commercials. You have to know your audience and sell them on your "product." Make the lure strong. Use humor!
Relationships must come first!
A4: Ss in HS need to find ways that will help them keep focused on the material, a skill that they will need at the college level.
Tammy West Putnam City School Board A2) When my children knew the classroom was a safe place to get out of their comfort zone.
Aren’t teachers the worst when the have to do something because Admin says we have to?? https://t.co/qZ5Tkkxl3Q
A4: Think in terms of teacher PD. No diff w/ Ss. Autonomy and choice are imp for buy-in. There must be meaning for the learner.
A3 honestly it's encouraging to me when I can work with someone. It's discouraging to feel like an island all the time
But when its engaging and meaningful - we learn and then our Admin are great!! Right?!
https://t.co/qZ5Tkkxl3Q
A4: Think in terms of teacher PD. No diff w/ Ss. Autonomy and choice are imp for buy-in. There must be meaning for the learner.
A1: Magic in classrooms looks like relationships
A4: Magic happens in the "process"; if Ss become disengaged, change the potion.
& we don't know what the kiddos experienced the night before, that morning...sometimes baggage is an issue
Agreed! I remind students they have the choice. They can choose to learn or not. They need ownership for education
A4) Yes, that's not how engagement works. Engagement can't be an expectation
A2: Engagement ebbs/flows w/ Ss interests. Ts make the diff on daily basis in lrng.
Yes. The real magic happens when Ss are the magicians not the spectators. Given the chance Ss always amaze! https://t.co/zQjvMMbuzw
A4: I've found that children and teenagers are not the most compliant population.
A4: Gr8 Ts take cues from their Ss. Learn from them! If it doesn’t work, let them tell you why.
A3: acting confident, whether I am or not. Putting on the persona of a confident teacher. Very important as a !
A2: Foundation for magic in the classroom is the joining of relevant content and S/T trust within the zone of proximal learning
A4) Creating an atmosphere that is engaging is vital to the magic
A6) One word: “Teaser Trailers”
A willingness to be vulnerable/open is key to that magic happening https://t.co/3JHen5DN5J
A4: Gr8 Ts take cues from their Ss. Learn from them! If it doesn’t work, let them tell you why.
A6: I tell them The Grapes of Wrath has been banned in many states and we'll work through it to see why.
A6) Science! There is a phenomena to teach everything!
A6 - your hook should vary depending on your audience.
It's our job to find out why each child isn't learning and do everything in our power to engage them.
A3: All educators have to/do support each other to keep the magic=engagement at a high level.
A6) knowing your students and relating the content to their interest
A4 a good hook is to show an example of a completed product. The S's always want to know what a piece sounds like before playing it.
A6 Use music to hook them.
A6: Cramming as many S as you can in a hoola hoop for a Science lesson was a pretty good hook.
A4: We have to show Ss how each lesson is relevant to them.
It's really simple- "kids don't learn from people they don't like" -Listen to Rita P.! # connect
A6: Connect it to something they know and care about. Have to know the kids to do that tho... https://t.co/AwkFRXHn1g
A6 A popular hook: Tell them we're going to use their cellphones today.
A6: Teachers--get a ahold of book "Teach Like a Pirate." It is chock full of awesome ideas to engage Ss w/ hooks!
Q6) A video showing someone dropping a stone in a hole and timing how long it takes to make a sound - then showing the math used.
A6 It's amazing what a little suspense can do.
I will say engagement is easier when Ss base needs are met...Maslow's pyramid, etc!
A4 Engagement is t Magic! I told u too will only create disengagement! Expectations shld b to luv t learn w options that hook em
A6 ask Ss what they are interested in and work that into the lessons. Making the lesson relevant makes it truly magical.
A5: Relevance, Rigor, Relationships.
A6: Hooks should spark wonder & begin dialogue; storytelling works wonders!
A6: With 5th grade a hook can be as simple as placing Ice cream on the table. I use food all the time! It works!
Kings m&ms did the trick for no taxation without representation
A6 Another hook: Tell a story from your life that shows how the content is relevant. Ss love to listen to stories!
For my class of 3rd graders this year, best hook is to tell them we are about to do a 4th grade thing! lol https://t.co/wxAD4sDjzv
doing something cool next week - make a teaser trailer with iMovie or something similar. Show it too your class.
A6: predictably unpredictable.
Pregnant pause & walking over to close the classroom door is usually starts a hum
A4 "because I told you..." Is great when toilet training a stubborn 2 yr old. Not so much for teaching Shakespeare to a 17 yr old.
A6) Show the S's that what you are asking them to do is something you can do and not just a lession in the book.
A6) I love startling statements or stories. Primary sources work best. But, hey, I'm a History teacher! Best movies of all time...
Q6 use songs they know. Relate it to what they like to do. Visit them at aprtments. Get to know their world and bring it in my room.
A6: Relevance. How is this relevant?
a6: controversy, humor, relevancy to student s's know lives, authentic audiences...
Maybe a minute long or so - and do it when you have a calm moment - let them wonder what is coming… build up some…..
A good magic trick literally will have them eating out of your hand.
A6 Doing these things make it so much fun to be a teacher! https://t.co/hmV2nUEh5B
A6: Dress up as a character, play music, show a quick video to help with discussions, act out a short play, & use work stations.
A6) I didn't know a thing about anime but sure asked questions about it. Let your Ss feel like experts so that they treat u like one
love that book. I think people who lead teachers should lead like a pirate (staff meetings, etc)
A6: I might have used a deceptive hook- told them their mom probably wouldn't want them to read this piece. https://t.co/UxvQSwbg4f
A6: I tell them The Grapes of Wrath has been banned in many states and we'll work through it to see why.
Hey those even all start with the letter "R"...
A6b) Making it relevant to Ss lives through art, videos, music, etc... regardless of the subject helps to provide the hook.
A6: At the lower Elem level, I like to use books and stories.
A6 I have been known to dress up in character for PDs I offer...
A5- I've found being prep'd creates the magic and fun. Like the books say, structure is key at least for me.
A6) For 7th gr it's all about the sarcasm. "I just knew you all wanted more worksheets today so I apologize we are playing "
A6: Admins must support & create relationships, build trust with Ts, Ss.
A6B; Use Twitter to expand your classroom. Use Facetime, GHO, Periscope, & 2 connect with classrooms around the world.
Love it! I've done that too. I even considered making a P sign something, but passed.
Yes! I love using Ss music to teach them about elements of story or poetry. Tell them their fav artists are poets.
Interesting stories that lead into my content seems to work best for me!
Very true. We must tell them why they should care and then make it something they truly care about!
A6 The true HOOK is knowing them, caring about them, having a trusting relationship with them!
A6- Having the Students participate in an activity that relates to the lesson before you state your obj of lesson.. Great Hook
I love just randomly wandering around the room and standing in corners I ghost around my room like a madman
A6: Sounds simple, but my MS Ss loved choosing how they were doing the project. I always offered choice! More ownership for the Ss
Mindy Dennison, Carl Albert HS. Just got home from a booster meeting. what did I miss?
A6: Use the 5E model. Activity before content builds in the suspense naturally.
A3: The hook is in the story. Great Ts are storytellers! Lay the foundation for your lesson by making it relatable/mysterious/funny
A6 New discovery, new research, question, pose problem, video, cartoon, quote, song, whatever fits/hooks
Ask about hooks! She has the strategies down! Also follow to learn all about them!
you missed the magic…
Look for he’s the man with the Q’s!
A7: You have to get them up out of their seats! Sitting down learning isn't much fun. I try to design every lesson this way.
Michelle Womack. Idabel HS.
A7: Maybe the first key is not being too old to act like a kid. If there’s no laughter, there won’t be any fun.
A7) Do not let yourself be boxed in by policy. Be the creative genius that you are and the brilliance will follow!
look up some strategies https://t.co/KfQWEJntfa
A7: You have to get them up out of their seats! Sitting down learning isn't much fun. I try to design every lesson this way.
A7: Use entertainment itself sparingly; overuse passion. When the two collide, the magic can last several days.
Autonomy and student centered learning! Student choice and voice are very powerful motivators
A7: Purposeful participation by Ts for Ss & supported fully by admin!
A7 - know your audience, & your “big trick” (aka end goal) and work up to that goal. Let your S’s know what you are headed toward.
Thank you for that praise! https://t.co/G8TpikMP7x
Ask about hooks! She has the strategies down! Also follow to learn all about them!
A7: When I assign something I tell them you can do this anywhere you want in this room. Why must they stay at their desk?!
a7: planning. In order to experience "magic" you need to be deliberate in your planning.
A6 Tell them you would love to tell them but if you do the principal will be mad. Keep that going until its time to tell them.
A7 Make sure you aren't doing all the heavy lifting...Ss should be thinking critically and solving problems!
A6: Video Clips that tie to the lesson and Kahoot quizzes are great hooks.
A7 Whatever you use to create engagement - music, humor, movement - has to come back to content and purpose.
A7) First know your topic, know your expectations, then find multiple ways to present it so all Ss can reach the goals/expectations.
A7 the standard is the focus of the fun. Students want to learn, they want their time honored and not wasted.
A6) in self contained, I have to think about know to make engagement carry thru whole day, plan in a sequence not just isolated subj
A7: It's kinda sad that we assume prod lrng cannot happen in a fun, active, & engaging CR.Truthfully, it's the only place it does.
A7 It HAS TO appeal in real world. Ts HAVE TO be confident enough to let students take the reigns and run https://t.co/lS4jK5cZ98
A7: for every job that must be done, there is an element of fun. You find the fun...and [snap] the job's a game!
A7) A few keys: building relationships, engaging Ss, S centered classroom, purposeful lesson planning
A7: Know content & objectives, plan well, give Ss a voice & choice, learn WITH them & HAVE FUN too.
Love this! Students will resist - who likes heavy lifting. But man! What a difference when they take over! https://t.co/4xP8BzLk4t
A7 Make sure you aren't doing all the heavy lifting...Ss should be thinking critically and solving problems!
A7) "Attitude reflects leadership." Remember the Titans. It's all about the instructional leader. That's where magic starts.
Love that quote! https://t.co/4IOMvWvlWW
A7: for every job that must be done, there is an element of fun. You find the fun...and [snap] the job's a game!
. A6. Video clips are powerful
A7 Sometimes you can use humor. Show ironic pictures to, you guessed it, teach what irony is/isn't. Ex: Pix of a fire truck on fire.
A7: Make sure S expectations are known; provide engaging activities for all learners; be willing to switch gears if need be
A7- environment of mutual respect will allow the productive part to take place after the magic and fun things. Ss want to please
If my Ss are not having fun, I'm not having fun! If they're laughing, sharing ideas, and still learning, it's a good day for me.
A7 Make sure we are entertaining our S's but the lesson and content is being learned as a result.
A7: Whatever you do has to be when they first walk through the classroom door.
A7: give them choices; let them have ownership. You're in control, but make them think it's their idea.
Our class motto is Attitude is Everything. We had a very big discussion about it when we got back from break.
A7) Redefining what "productive" means. Not always a grade book ready red-inked paper at the end of class.
A7: Please remember this, kids do not learn best when seated for six hours a day. We must do better than this.
A7 It takes some confident classroom management to move to the magic level.
Adults don't learn best when seated for six hours either, lol... https://t.co/WhBjZcX0sf
A7: Please remember this, kids do not learn best when seated for six hours a day. We must do better than this.
A5a: My class is fun/productive because I use interactive tech to engage each S and make it relevant. Ss need to feel connected
I think it is important to remember that magic often happens in a busy, noisy classroom. Learning is messy!
Task cards - playing the game Scoot is wonderful! My Ss love it!
A7 do a scavenger hunt. Questions and answers to other questions on a sheet placed around the room
A7 - don’t be afraid to become the audience and allow the S’s to be the magician. T’s are facilitators let them discover the magic
A7-give kids ownership, let them get up and move, build, share, use their gifts. Collaborate with other schools, states, countries.
A7: clear expectations, be flexible & meet them in the middle. Cut the fluff and really explore the meat in unusual ways
my kiddos will walk around the room while I read the text book or when something is boring.
YES!!! https://t.co/USGOr3Fqc6
A7: Please remember this, kids do not learn best when seated for six hours a day. We must do better than this.
Or use QR codes all over the school! Make it a race and start the kids in different places https://t.co/86460KzUAO
A7 do a scavenger hunt. Questions and answers to other questions on a sheet placed around the room
Plus, research says they can't sustain meaningful focus much longer than 20 mins. Switch it up!
A7:As they walk into the classroom, give them a challenge. They can create, innovate, and collaborate to come up with an artifact.
A7: I teach performance. I remind students that being good at something is fun. You can't give good performances w/o good practices
A7) Play music in your room, engage with your S's, stand on a desk if that is what is needed. Think out of the box.
I agree! T must be organized & able to plan well, as well as, keep behavior problems at bay. THEN, the magic happens.
Yes, love this. https://t.co/LLYd4V0P8c
starts w/relationships & builds community In turn Ss achieve due 2 high expectations set by T. Ss achieve when we believe in them
Uverse is causing my chat to lag! I can't keep connected w/laptop & can't keep up w/phone!
A7: a consistent routine/ opening set, moving around, engaging material, & contagious teacher energy! https://t.co/MASC5qmg7U
I used to play really loud music during passing period. Ss I didn’t have would stop in and listen/dance/air guitar!
A8 I think sharing what we do in our classes that exemplify this. Watching other Ts engage Ss can often inspire me.
A8 Principals can encourage teachers to share from their lesson plans
A8 I help my fellow Ts by planning, acting out, or following along. It reinforces the production https://t.co/npqMTz67Yt
A8) I say it often..if you're a leader MODEL your expectations
When we enter with a fear of losing control the magic will remain in that other T's classroom.
A8 - successful magic is preceded by failure. the first attempt is’t always going to work. Don’t be afraid to try a new “trick”
A8) Collaboration with respect, constructive criticism with meaningful feedback, and a willing attitude to listen and give ideas.
A8: Support. Embrace the opportunity & cut that cord. We are all here because we want Ss successful
A8: We can give each other new ideas (like here!) and observe others who are good.
A8 share with other Ts, invite them to come in and observe what you do
A8) Sharing, honest feedback and encouragement, collaboration
2 nts New year theme, where are we headed. Don’t miss it. 8pm starting n15m
I did it all day long - kids loved to try and guess what the music would be.
A8: Share and be there for each other. We are only as strong as we make each other...
A7: Focusing on Essentials allows time for inquiry, enthusiasm, entertainment, & engagement all entwined with the critical content.
I really like this idea! we should do this with our teachers! https://t.co/vi3UahS2GS
A8 Principals can encourage teachers to share from their lesson plans
A8: listen for what classes and teachers the kids talk about. Go observe
Yes!! Learning from observing other Ts is an incredible opportunity!
A8- share in PLCs, visit other classrooms and teachers, sit in other classrooms and look around, eat lunch with other teachers
A8: Why do we close our doors? Have other Ts help with the lesson; then Ss could see across-curricular ideas in action.
A8: Being consistent helps! My Ss know my expectations, but also that I will be completely silly with them and have fun.
A8: write a note to a colleague that you see doing such and modeling such
Thank you! You'll learn a lot @
Thanks for a good chat PLN @ & but it is that time... :)
Have a great week of learning! https://t.co/1BCypX8x6H
That quiet Sunday moment between leisurely cognitions and the weight of regret mixed with panic over a remembered mountain of work you love.
Could also use video app like & have kids record their learning @ each stop. https://t.co/KxtPuiSlig
Or use QR codes all over the school! Make it a race and start the kids in different places https://t.co/86460KzUAO
A7 do a scavenger hunt. Questions and answers to other questions on a sheet placed around the room
A8) Must be able 2 have honest convo about our practice. We train each other to get better in sports, lets push each other w/ T-ing.
A8) share what we do - blog a couple of times a month and get support and input from others! !
A8) Share your successes and failures with other T's. Try other things until you find what works for you and your S's.
I need to get better at blogging...I have the attention span of a gnat and forget to write! https://t.co/jjA0X6gben
A8) share what we do - blog a couple of times a month and get support and input from others! !
I entered this group as a parent months ago. This group has inspired me to act on a dream and get into the classroom. Thank you
A8: The same S that tells me my class is fun will also call me strict. It's a balance. They know my expectations. Be consistent.
A8) Magic in the classroom takes planning and investing time to get to know your students. It doesn't just happen.
A9 Teach Kenny Rogers. You gotta know when to hold em, know when to fold em Sometimes toss the lesson plan https://t.co/v6EqWbtGFF
A8) As an administrator we need to encourage our teachers to take chances and step outside the box.
A9) Let prospective Ts be apart of the magic when they are student teaching or observing in our schools
A7: IMO, creating a project based classroom full of innovation, technology, and media! That is how our Ss learn and share!
You have so much amazing stuff to contribute! I know we get busy - but it is so worth it!
A9: Help people understand how new ideas can make them better, cater it to them. Don’t try to carbon-copy yourself or someone else.
a8: watch each other teach. Reflect often with your instructional coach 😊
A9: Build relationships; true collaboration; model magic; be goofy together
A9 Show new teachers our best lessons. Show them something they wouldn't see anywhere else. In a good way.
A9) Show them what works for you and explain why.
A9: Allow time in PLC's, Staff mtngs for Ts to share short vid clips of teaching/learning.
A9) The best way to "teach magic" to perspective Ts is to show them the process, minus the short-cuts. Make the invisible visible.
A8: Love idea of having an database to share the gr8 things happening in our classrooms!
It's definitely worth it. How about a vlog, does that count? I love creating videos...
A9 open the doors of Magical teachers. advertise them. Get new Ts in those rooms. Share. Collaborate. Encourage. Recruit magicians.
A applies to all: get parents involved! Make them part of the madness.
And explain how and why the magic happens. It is hard work and takes thought!
9) Encourage them to dig in and get their hands dirty. Watch one, do one, teach one. If you fail, start over and never quit.
great chat and topic tonight!
A8) Stop silently competing with each other for Coolest Teacher. Stop carbon copying lesson plans and Collaborate!
When I tell my Ss I don't expect a quiet classroom they 👀 @ me like I'm crazy! What's happening in other CR? https://t.co/DaiSIX9du9
I think it is important to remember that magic often happens in a busy, noisy classroom. Learning is messy!
A9: We can remind them to teach to their own strengths. As much as I'd love to be funny, I'm witty at best!
A5b: I make vids of the classroom apps that help me bring magic into class like GoogleCardboard/Nearpod/etc https://t.co/nO4p0DtWIE
A8: I strive 2 give feedback 2 Ts often, & ask "How can I help you?" Being visible in classrooms is a + https://t.co/JIDvdW7HHV
A9: They have to find theirs, but showing them ours will help them know its there somewhere...
A9 - remind them that great teaching comes from learning the hard way. Give them good T’s to learn from & freedom to make mistakes
A9: My blog at https://t.co/pRDjG4wg7l contains daily reflections about teaching. Make a book of ideas or a video of ideas from Ts.
we meet once a week for one hour to share the magic, plan, evaluate, adjust, strategize for Monday, encourage, be unified..
We should create a state-wide video library of innovative classrooms!
This is a powerful way of making the PLC a useful tool for Ts. https://t.co/jyqG6Df1wC
A9: Allow time in PLC's, Staff mtngs for Ts to share short vid clips of teaching/learning.
A9. New Ts need to know that it takes courage to be creative & have autonomy. They need to find their style https://t.co/LBGYrYjeyP
This is awesome! :) Yay, ! https://t.co/IcJfrBCGjl
I entered this group as a parent months ago. This group has inspired me to act on a dream and get into the classroom. Thank you
Oh my, they may have a program for that! Seriously, this make me feel very happy for your Ss!
A9 New Ts and their As need to know that it takes courage -- and time.
Just got home from Church, so jumping in late. I work for Idabel schools
A 2 or 3: don't be afraid to laugh
A10- care about and value their teachers
This the the tonight guys and gals! https://t.co/ttiXXeH77g
I entered this group as a parent months ago. This group has inspired me to act on a dream and get into the classroom. Thank you
A8b: encourage Ts 2 share their awesomeness. We have SPARK @ every staff mtg where a T shares a strategy/app/tech use/etc.
A9: I live with a future T. I am her mother. She attends OU. We have daily discussions. She is going to be a great Kind. T.
A9) Tell them to always treat small victories like big victories and to take Instructional risks!!!
A10 The #1 things As can do is support their Ts. Encourage them to create educational magic, and back them up when Ss or Ps don't.
A10) building relationships with Ts and families, validating what is occurring daily in the classroom, modeling
A10- leadership and collaboration
A10) Recognize & support the work Ts are doing. Get in the classrooms with them to make the magic.
A10: Ps could observe more often and publicly announce some positive things they see in the classrooms!
A10 Be unpredictable in fun ways.
My behavior isn't as random as it seems.
Or even let teachers go and see each other teach - even those teaching in different districts! https://t.co/uYXwgxnwbA
This is a powerful way of making the PLC a useful tool for Ts. https://t.co/jyqG6Df1wC
A9: Allow time in PLC's, Staff mtngs for Ts to share short vid clips of teaching/learning.
True. Because often they may be the only ones trying something "new" /magical which is often met w resistance
A10 encourage us to think outside the box- grow a garden, make a quilt, develop a mentor program, etc. https://t.co/5kwPeaEfLl
A10 - lead in a way that despite all the JUNK, T’s will want to come to work. Treat T’s the way we want our T’s to treat our S’s.
A6: Facilitate sharing between Ts about successes and failures. Help Ts overcome the isolation of their classrooms. Build trust!
so important to be intentional about
A10) Food. The key to our hearts is food! When you surprise us with donuts or brownies we will make some magic happen!
A10: Cannot say it enough; Create relationships w/ Ts, Ss, Parents, District, State officials. Work together to advance learning.
A10: creating a positive atmosphere to work in and visiting classrooms. Making us all feel like the team we are. 😊
A10) Administrators need to establish, build, and foster relationships with students, teachers, and parents.
A10) Admin needs to loosen up and have fun. Goof off in the halls. Show the T's and S's that you are not a stuffed shirt.
... Does TLE mean your competing against your neighbor/colleague... That score has benefits.... Jus sayin
A10: Whatever is doing at
A10: Be willing to jump in with the Ss; laugh with Ts; goofy incentives; SMILE often
I need a great workshop/training for project based learning....any ideas???
A10) We administrators can be supportive of our Ts, willing to model expectations, and be an active part of the schls cmmnity.
A10: shake hands with students and remind them you are counting on them to make the most of today https://t.co/HV2snpHrJI

a10: give t's freedom to experiment.
A9 Prospects r in all of our HSs recruit them early Show them t MAGIC get them shadowing our best teachers n let them c the MAGIC
A10) be real. We give so much lip service to supporting teachers. Talk is so cheap. Model and fight for our profession is magical.
I agree. I like hearing the positives in my eval, but if everyone knew... :-)
A10) Encourage Instructional risk taking! Celebrate every small success like you just changed the future of your school community.
administrators must listen to Ts and Ss to create the best place for all. Stop making decisions that do not align with the goals.
A10: Model. Know your Ts like you want your Ts to know the kids.
Each needs diff support. Some need rules, others space
A10) build a community of creativity and thoughtful risk taking! Let Ts and Ss blow the doors off of your building
A10 Make sure you're strategically removing hoops, not adding them senselessly.
was doing some free workshops, not sure if that was a topic or not
A10 encourage. Support. Visit often. If possible, take something(s) off my plate before you add more.
