The #INeLearn hashtag is used for both asynchronous sharing and synchronous conversations. Include #INeLearn in your tweets if you want to share resources or questions with Indiana educators and school leaders. Asynchronously, the #INeLearn hashtag provides educators across the state of Indiana a central space for sharing. On Thursday evenings beginning at 8 CST/9 EST when you use the #INeLearn hashtag, you are joining a live conversation--the #INeLearn Twitter Chat. For one hour, we interact in real time having a virtual discussion.
It’s time for #INeLearn! Tag a friend who needs to be here tonight and intro yourself! I have the pleasure of moderating our #DLDay chat! My partner, @KindergartenVF is down w/ the flu!
A1) I don't have Ss anymore, but I did create a tutorial video over Google Jamboard and sent it to the T's at CGHS. Hoping they are Collaborating and Creating with this tool! @GoogleForEdu#INeLearn
R1: my students were working on creating genetic disease public service announcements. They researched the genetic diseases and then started creating short videos about their disease on @WeVideo. #DLDay#INeLearn
#inelearn A1 Our 2nd Grade students did a cultural exchange with a class from the @trevordayschool in NYC today. We ask/answered questions about our schools/communities. Learned the difference between school in the city and rural area.

Exactly. I have HS seniors, so there was some great discussion around this. So proud that some already knew about Google reverse image search. #INeLearn
Just a reminder...my 7th gr. Ss helped develop our Qs for tonight. They collaborated w/ Docs and submitted in a Form. I want to give them due credit! #INeLearn
R2 My Ss provide a lot of inspiration, and my own children at home. I love watching kids play. Then I develop from there w/ their input. I have an "I Wonder" wall up in my room as well. #INeLearn
R2: I’ve been integrating tech with my Ss since 1997 when my Ss created chemistry webpages with #Webit. It has always been important to me to integrate tech in my class activities. It’s now just learning and creating, not learning and creating with tech. #DLDay#INeLearn
R2: (Finally joining in after @BoilerBall win at IL.) I find inspiration from Twitter, podcasts (@GTeacherTribe), and blogs. I also find it in talking with my PLN (@EdTechHeroes) #INeLearn
R2 | As many of us mentioned last week, pedagogy is where my crateivity/inspiration begins. When i'm planning a lesson I always consider the learning, and how tech can improve understanding, and provide new opportunities for exploration #INeLearn
I love it. I was a freshman in HS in '97 and we were doing distance learning with Disney's school in Celebration, FL. I'm sure your Ss haven't forgotten that! #INeLearn
A2) I get so many great ideas from the amazing educators in my twitter and GEG PLN's. Indiana is an amazing place for tech integration in schools. It's inspiring to see what other educators do on a daily basis! #INeLearn
#inelearn A2. Enjoy planning Mystery Skypes/Hangouts for our Ss. I know this might be the only opportunity some of our students will get outside the State of Indiana. Love seeing the smiles after the lesson takes place. They will never forget the interaction!
I was at Cardinal Ritter using 186 and 286 computers. DOS systems creating webpages with a very primitive coding program. Have formers that still tell me they remember the coding because of this. #INeLearn#DLDay18
I so loved DOS. I bet I can still navigate my way through. We used LOGO in sixth grade. That would've been '94ish? I love telling my Ss about this stuff. #INeLearn
R3: people are afraid to take risks and show that they don’t know how to do use something. It is the fear of messing up because they might get evaluated on that day. It’s the fear that Ss might know more than they do. I’m never afraid to take risks. Ss deserve it. #INeLearn
#INeLearn A3 Some are still overwhelmed with all that technology has to offer. Really working in my PDs to get back to some basics and build from there. Very proud of the effort Some our Ts are making in trying new technology ideas in their classrooms.
A3: Too many Ts began teaching under admin who didn't support taking risks - admin wanted rules & order. They have a built & supported a fear of failure in these Ts. #INeLearn
A3) I think it comes down to awareness, and time. Many Ts who do not use tech are not aware of the impact tools can have on teaching, and fear that they don't have skills to use the tools that are out there. It's my job to help alleviate those fears. #INeLearn
R3: I try to empower my teachers by showing them how tech can change their lesson and engage their students. I always reassure them that I will be present when they introduce the activity in class. I’m their safety net. #INeLearn
R3 | A struggle I notice is 'tech initiative fatigue'. Instead of over saturating teacher tech-toolkits, focus on developing understanding of the most impactful ones. #INeLearn
Some Ss have no idea what to do with choice, which is kind of sad. But they need to know it's okay. Right now I like the #ShowWhatYouKnow boards that have stemmed from #HyperDocs#INeLearn
A4: Ts limit to what they feel they can support. If they tell Ss they're free to use it, but be honest & tell them they're not sure how it works - Ss will decide to (or not to) take that risk w/ the new tool. #INeLearn
Unfortunately, not true with all of them. Still amazed when I mention a simple #edtech tool to Ss & they are blown away. They don't often use the tech for learning or efficiency, but for fun only. #INeLearn
R4 I know where this Q comes from. :) Ss want access to their phones. In our district, it is something we limit. They have access to their personal iPad and a Mac at all times. Thoughts?
#INeLearn
Let the Ss use the tool, show others, demonstrate their knowledge to stakeholders, and give some form of a presentation over the tool to you. #INeLearn
I think part of this is learning the tools along with the Ss. I use the Sandbox approach w/ Ts and Ss learning new tech and it's really effective. #INeLearn
R4: I like using choice boards for students. I still think most kids need a “technology PD day” where they can learn new tools, just like teachers get. #INeLearn
I let Ss use their phones in my class. But I think I have to step on my soap box about once a week to let them know that the phone was originally created to be a tool, not a mirror into other people's lives... #INeLearn
I believe that if a school is 1:1, those are the devices that need to be utilized in the classroom. Phones can be used for specific lessons if the T can design that, but I find most Ss use phones as toys and for social media. #INeLearn
I do not limit my Ss. So many of our Ss are multitaskers that have 15 different things going at once. Some can handle and some can’t. It’s monitoring. #INeLearn
R4 | Student choice is SO IMPORTANT when practiced safely. #DigitalCitizenship is essential. For me, more tech use has to be logical. Always ask if there's a way to create deeper understanding through tech. If yes, go for it! #INeLearn
In about 15 minutes a whole class (Ts too) can learn a new tool with Sandbox. 5 minutes to explore, 5 minutes to share & 5 minutes to ask questions. In that order. Reinforces collaboration in learning new concepts. #INeLearn
Yes. I have two Ss who daily tell Ts they just want their paper and pencil. Yet, my Ss have always had 1:1 tech so they don't know any different. #INeLearn
Never a truer statement! I am constantly reminding them that I am not google or Siri and that they should use the tools they have at their disposal in the classroom. #INeLearn
Same! Students love to tell me about new tech so I can 'audit' its use, and determine if it's going to be welcomed into our classroom. Choice boards are a great way to meet all student's interests. #INeLearn
R5 It is a major part of their lives now and in the future. Our activities today were more about teamwork, communication, and critical thinking than the actual tech. These are the concepts tech can and should teach. #INeLearn
R5 | Tech is important for students because it will be a large focus of their future. If we don't practice and teach it now, they will be behind the curve. The key is making sure it's developmentally appropriate. #INeLearn
R5: as my Ss we’re researching today, a few asked me if they could make their own pictures with info instead of using the templates in @WeVideo. Um, sure! So they used @googledrive#Slides to make images then uploaded. #DLDay#INeLearn
#INeLearn A5 There phone is their life. They are tied into social media all the time. I want Ss to be able to communicate. Today our 2nd Grade Ss had to talk and communicate with others in a face to face format. Sometimes, I think we our losing that skill.
R5 I think tech has helped me better differentiate lessons for Ss. It's okay for them to work through material at their own pace, use resources they feel comfortable using to break down info and present it #INeLearn
R6 Anytime I've done a PBL project w/ a tech component because we went outside of our classroom borders to solve real world problems. It's about the human connection... #INeLearn
I sat down for a radio interview and one of the first things out of the host's mouth was 'digital native'. However I decided getting in a fight on the radio with a Supt. wouldn't be in my best interest. #INeLearn
R6: my Ss in my @PLTWorg class last year utilized tech daily for data collection, curation of new material, data analysis, etc. My opinion was the best use of tech in learning I’ve done. Taken many of these ideas this year to use in my classes. #DLday#INeLearn
A5: For my HS Ss it's about #FOMO & Fear of Others Thinking They Didn't Care Enough to Keep Uptodate On Their Snapchat Stories #FOOTTDCETKUOTSS#INeLearn
#INeLearn A6: Using @TeachingLC oral history primary source analysis sheets while engaging with our speakers. When the interview was done it was interesting to hear the different perspectives the Ss had from the questions they answered. Made for a deeper discussion of the lesson
Started on this path last week. Ss creating their own infographics about the Vietnam War. I'll be looking for more stats on future topics so Ss can continue to grow with this skill. #INeLearn
R6 | Genius Hour. I have had students (8 y/o) do everything from a simple Google Slide, to coded walking robots and animated illustrations. They're great because it was the student's idea, therefore the BEST use of tech 😀 #INeLearn
R7 Anytime I do a movie project w/ Ss, I always feel like I fail in helping them achieve the quality we desire. I'm always adding mini-lessons to make it better. #INeLearn
R7: I am a novice to #HyperDocs and the application project didn't really go as planned (this was last week). I got feedback from Ss and I'm trying again #INeLearn
I love the idea of students using infographics to demonstrate their learning from their own research #INeLearn You don’t always have to assign a paper.
R7: I tried @explainevrythng and did not have success due to some things we were trying within our district. That was a lesson where Ss did paper/pencil afterward. It made me realize that I need to try things before I expect Ss to try. #INeLearn
R8: It’s the Ss future that is dependent on the projects, tech use, skills learned in class that will benefit them becoming #NOWready and have the skills to be #FutureReady. #DLDay#INeLearn
R9 We are already brainstoring for our next big project. We use a "I Wonder" wall to write Qs that lead to developing projects. It's something new I started this year, and I am LOVING it. #INeLearn
R7 | I'm going to reword into 'productive struggle' and say that when I make an assumption students will immediately click with new tech, I need to freeze 😀 If I see something isn't working for THEM (even if i'm super jazzed) it's time to go back to the drawing board. #INeLearn

WU: I want my Ss to let me know their thoughts on the tool we are using, how I can use it with others, is it worth using again, do you like it? Yes, getting their opinion matters. #INeLearn
As always, @MrsCoppleSES knocked the session out of the park. Thanks to @INeLearn and @mrg_3 for providing the forum. And thanks to all involved in today’s session. It’s always a blast. #INeLearn
R8 | Student voice is essential DAILY because they need to be active participants in their learning. Passion for education can only occur when there is engagement and interest. Who better to determine interest than the student? #INeLearn
One of many reasons I love my job and my township, students are provided so many engaging experiences. Just this week alone, we had @IXScience (science lessons), @robbiegrimes (Google Expedition experiences) and an amazing Family Literacy Night at @GardenCityElem@WayneTwpSuper
