During my time as a virtual counselor my tools were predominantly tech based. Definitely made me think outside of the box. Technology can enhance and reinforce traditional f2f connections. But a great deal of preparation and care is needed! #SCCHAT

A2. I've been able to contact more parents via email/social media posts. I meet with students most of the day and phone calls after hours isn't the best idea, but I can send a variety of positive emails and information and post to social media on our Counseling page. #scchat

A2 Best way technology has helped me be more efficient is using Google Forms to do our Needs Assessment. I know what 500 students need in a matter of minutes. Can make groups throughout year based on that. #scchat

A2: I definitelythink technology allows us to be more efficient. Parents and students can access recordings of important meetings. We can now remind students to get a good nights sleep or to eat breakfast prior to the Saturday morning test using a number of cool apps! #SCCHAT

Yes. We had Hour of Code today at Spencer High! We used goggle cardboard googles inspired by professional development this summer with #ncwitc4c. #SCCHAT

Though I think there's not replacement for parent phone calls or meetings, email makes for faster response time sometimes. And one of my favorite things to do is to send congratulatory emails to students after performances or other jobs well done. #scchat

I put all of the lessons that I normally deliver in Google classroom. First we took Career interest inventory. Now we are researching careers. Since it's in Google, it's all saved in their drive. #scchat

A4: One of my fave examples is of an SC who has used video to share registration info and had it translated into multiple languages for families. #scchat
A4: I use tech to connect to community, advocate for what we do, communicate upcoming events etc. Sometimes all families use is technology/email, and that's OK! #scchat
I have been using it more in my 504 and I&RS accommodations. The ability to use something like google translate or voice recording to "talk" their essay instead of writing it has been awesome! #scchat

A5 We have recruited girls specifically to join our Hyperstream after school technology club. Our technology teachers are also both female. This has helped get our MS girls more interested and comfortable working with computer science. #scchat

Use @SkypeClassroom all the time. Try to do them throughout the year for career cluster lessons and then try to have more on career day. Really opens the kids eyes to other careers, especially non traditional ones #scchat

I agree! I keep finding new uses for Google Forms! For example, I just discovered you can allow users to attach photos! I use this feature a lot! #SCCHAT
