A1: For us we added in 21 personnel out of gun and pro I and added RPO’s out of that personnel as well. Made us more deadly in short yardage and goal line situations #TXHSFBCHAT
A1: added an RPO (sixman version) that was good to us in our playoff loss to the eventual state champs. Looking forward to developing and adding more. #txhsfbchat
A1: we were able to stay in the same personal from 2x2 spread look to 2x1 sniffer set or TE looks.... a commitment to #Widezone@QBCoachBeaty#TXHSFBCHAT
A1: Going all in on spread triple option. Threatening the edge created bigger inside runs for our running back. Looking forward to expanding the PAP and fixing some perimeter blocking issues. #txhsfbchat
A1: our biggest change was focusing our individual drills to be more scheme specific, helped our guys prepare better. Looking forward to figuring out a passing game having graduated the starting QB and a bunch of stud wideouts #txhsfbchat
A1: QB Run game was a great addition to our offense. Designed QB runs and Zone Read game with different looks backside. 800 yards rushing by our QB. This year looking to call significantly more quick game and screens. Get it to our dudes outside n let em run #txhsfbchat
HSSocialMedia : RT CoachBDud: Q1: What was the best change/addition you made on offense? And what are you looking forward to changing/adding this upcoming season? #TXHSFBCHAT
Essentially went to the R4 system, just slimmed down the playbook to 4 base plays and then build counters in multiple formations.
Next season is 2 formations, 8 base plays, with 3 counters with same backfield action
#TXHSFBCHAT
A1: Best change was move our personnel around more to create more favorable matchups. Looking forward to coaching up the next OL as we are changing out all 5...I have my work cut out for me! #TXHSFBCHAT
A1: Probably going to add some elements of RPO's. Also we are slimming down our playbook and really going to focus on becoming great at our base stuff #txhsfbchat
A1. The best change we did offensivelythis year was mixing up our personal looks. We jumped from empty to 22,21, and even sets with 7 OL and a single wide out. Really good stuff and makes it hard on the d. #TXHSFBCHAT
A1, but serious: I can't speak for our OC or the offensive staff, but they did have a 4,500 yard passer, 1,000 yard rusher, and two 1,000 yard receivers, so they did something very, very right. #TXHSFBCHAT
A1) Best change: New O staff, blending ideas and philosophies. Adding: wide stack pass concepts, play action concepts, always looking for new shifts & motions #TXHSFBCHAT
A1: For me (Oline coach) was building position flex into the starting unit. This offseason I'm working drills in PassPro, more mirroring/reacting to D lineman. Drills to get my guys positioned correctly knowing the D can see QB. We can't. REACT-REDIRECT #TXHSFBCHAT
Indeed. I dont know why I didnt think of it before.
Especially as a D guy, it should have been simpler to grasp earlier in my career... but the whole 4lb playbook culture was welded in hard
#TXHSFBCHAT
Gotta have a dude that can be a hybrid if you want to do that. And I’m pretty sure the commitment to widezone wasn’t the reason we were able to do that 😂 #txhsfbchat
Been a while since I’ve jumped in, but I’m back! Robert Ortiz, Varsity OL/JV OC at Murrieta Valley HS in beautiful Murrieta, CA! As always, your favorite coach’s favorite coach #TXHSFBCHAT
A1: Adding an RPO element to our offense and completely swapping my left side with the right side of my OL. Things ROLLED on offense after that. #TXHSFBChat
A1) Best thing was taking the year off to be with my family. Looking forward to simplifying the offense to boil it down to the plays we can execute best. #TXHSFBCHAT
Best change was scaling back what we were doing. Spent time emphasizing the basics so that our kids could play fast w/out overthinking it as new players who haven’t played before. Looking forward to digging deeper. #TXHSFBCHAT
A2: We will be using quarters coverage a lot more next year & probably base out of a 3 man front. lost top 5 DL and 3 3 year starters on OL. #txhsfbchat
A2: We really didn’t change a ton. We believers our scheme and want our kids to play as fast as possible so we do not want to change too much. With that said, I would say we tried to go multiple without sub-packaging too much. #TXHSFBCHAT
A2: blew it up, added some new coaches, made it simple, organized, and easy to understand...amazing how that works...this year switching from a 3 to a 4 man front, gotta replace some big Dline guys #txhsfbchat
A2: Settling in on a defensive scheme that allowed our DL to dominate the LOS and put them in their best position to succeed as individual players #TXHSFBCHAT
A2: i dont coach our D but ill do my best to answer. We went from 3-5 to a 3-4 and didnt blitz/stunt as often. Seemed like kids could do less thinking and just play. This year just looking to get better at what we do #txhsfbchat
A2: due to depth in certain areas we will be changing how we play a bit. I will have a few versatile guys who will be all over the place as both as lbs and safeties. Make it harder to plan where they will be from one play to the next. #txhsfbchat
A2) we became way more multiple in our fronts, stunts, blitzes, and coverages. Have to appear complicated while staying simple and give HS kids multiple looks per game! #TXHSFBCHAT
A2: The biggest change we made defensively this year was slimming down our blitzes and line stunts. Analyzing what we used most the season before and what worked and what didn’t. Allowing players to play faster. Also adding a new coverage. #TXHSFBCHAT
A2: We went back to our old 4-3 defense from double eagle that was main focus the year before. Made us more simple and allowed us to make plays. #TXHSFBCHAT
A2: Same defense but we adjusted how we call our defense. Also looking at how we do personnel groupings, especially how we rotate our dline. #txhsfbchat
A2: Last year added some new coverages and hoping to build off that. We have a new DC this year but will run the same system with a few new wrinkles. Already been toying with some personnel things we want to try #txhsfbchat
A2: We went back to our old 4-3 defense from double eagle that was main focus the year before. Made us more simple and allowed us to make plays. #TXHSFBCHAT
After week 2 we went from running/ practicing 6 coverages to running 2. All from same shell with rotations. Simple wins when u have players. Teach a bunch settle on a few. @txhsfbchat
Q3: What was the best change/addition you made on special teams? And what are you looking forwarded to changing/adding this upcoming season? #TXHSFBCHAT
Q3: What was the best change/addition you made on special teams? And what are you looking forwarded to changing/adding this upcoming season? #TXHSFBCHAT
A2: this year there weren’t any major changes to how we played D. Our biggest change coming up is going to be implementing the 4-2-5 defense and having some fun with it. #TXHSFBCHAT
We didn’t do enough on special teams. It was the primary area that my coaching, as a teacher, was weak. Looking forward to learning and doing better this year. #TXHSFBCHAT
A3: Much more emphasis and coaching. Schemes again simplified and allowed kids to play fast. Put best players on special teams and really sold how critical it is in determining who wins a football game. #TXHSFBCHAT
A3: Finding a kicker who can blast it into the EZ on kick offs. Huge Advantage all year. Punt returns should be improved next year... found a fearless returner at the end of this year and he is coming back #txhsfbchat
a3: last year we added swinging gate to our rotation. This year we be to let my STC have full control over all Special teams we were a really good ST club at year's end #txhsfbchat
Q3: What was the best change/addition you made on special teams? And what are you looking forwarded to changing/adding this upcoming season? #TXHSFBCHAT
A3) Rugby Punt was an awesome addition. Next year looking to really expand the possibilities. Make 4th down a weapon against the defense. There are so many ways to make it difficult for the defense and easy for the kids. #txhsfbchat
A3: Completely individualized Special Teams, got every coach involved, organized our players into position groups. Got our guys 100+ more reps over the course of the season, it was huge for us. Gonna change our punt return this year so we’re more sound #txhsfbchat
A3: Using two kickers. Each had their strengths and we were able to take advantage of those strengths on kickoff and field goals to help with field position and scoring #TXHSFBCHAT
A3: @coachbullus installed a dynamite KOR that improved out starting field position a lot! We never tried to get cute or change it up and i think the consistency helped a ton. #txhsfbchat
We ran more onsides and squibs. Recovered 5 at some critical times. Want to incorporate more individual drills that work special team technique. #txhsfbchat
A2 thinking about teaching using https://t.co/3gj0zUUmEa. It allows a teacher/coach to assess in real time so I can ask a question and everyone must answer it in real time
A3. One of the changes that worked out well for us on ST this year was putting some of our dudes on the field for KO. Tried to keep some guys off but it wasn’t working out. After the change saw a big difference in starting field position #TXHSFBCHAT
@Broncos_FB. Coaches if you are a member of #TeamFreeAgent and looking for a new possibility see below and message Coach Brull! He is looking for some ride or die coaches to help build a program in Kansas! #txhsfbchat#hogfbchat
A3: Need to improve in all areas. First thing we need to find a kicker. Second we're going to take a more aggressive approach. Higher percentage of a big play happening on special teams than any other phase of the game. #txhsfbchat
A3) Bought @CoachFore materials on Shield and Kick Return
Found my stuff from my conference with @CoachRock
Random tidbits on Twitter from the #Wildbunchchat crew
Then...
#TXHSFBCHAT
A3) find the best 11 athletes per team (regardless of size).
Our ST return game was dynamic this season bc we had dangerous guys in space. We were also athletic across the board.
I’m thinking about adding new punt blocks to the mix. Maybe more fakes via shield punt. #txhsfbchat
A3: we pooched on kickoff a lot more this year. Kickers got really good at putting some backspin on the ball. We recovered a good percentage #txhsfbchat
Q3: What was the best change/addition you made on special teams? And what are you looking forwarded to changing/adding this upcoming season? #TXHSFBCHAT
A2. One thing we didn’t do , but need to is teach the defense in the classrooms prior to spring ball. Increase Football IQ through PowerPoint / Hudl. Teach in classroom then rep on field. #txhsfbchat
A3) Was agressive and went after punts more. Kicked off from hash this yr. We upset a team by pinning them inside the 15 three times on KO. #TXHSFBCHAT
Q4: What was the best change/addition you made to your Strength and Conditioning? And what are you looking forwarded to changing/adding this upcoming season? #TXHSFBCHAT
A3: first year here as STC but I’d say being able to use our Special Forces as ways to get younger guys on the field and see them become part of the fold on O and D. Looking forward to blocking more kicks, and hands team! #TXHSFBCHAT
Q4: What was the best change/addition you made to your Strength and Conditioning? And what are you looking forwarded to changing/adding this upcoming season? #TXHSFBCHAT
Q4: What was the best change/addition you made to your Strength and Conditioning? And what are you looking forward to changing/adding this upcoming season? #TXHSFBCHAT
Did a couple of PiYo workouts with our school’s dance company. Activated core strength, balance, flexibility that our kids weren’t used to at all. Looking forward to doing it more. #TXHSFBCHAT
Q4: What was the best change/addition you made to your Strength and Conditioning? And what are you looking forwarded to changing/adding this upcoming season? #TXHSFBCHAT
A4: Our boys ran 25 110's last year the last day of fall camp 90% of them made time on all 25. They didn't think they would, THEY DID.... Mindset changed for them #txhsfbchat
Q4: What was the best change/addition you made to your Strength and Conditioning? And what are you looking forwarded to changing/adding this upcoming season? #TXHSFBCHAT
A3. Having or I gotta walkthrough time with teams and scout. Being able to teach and work skills, really felt it made me better and a difference with the kids. This year, I am revamping how I teach KR/Scheme #txhsfbchat
Q4: What was the best change/addition you made to your Strength and Conditioning? And what are you looking forwarded to changing/adding this upcoming season? #TXHSFBCHAT
Our HC runs our weight room and he took his system and applied a revolving system where the kids are always moving, maxes have gone up and enthusiasm is high. #TXHSFBCHAT
A3: swinging gate “sniper unit” PAT. Threats at every position shifting to a double wing set that still gave options as a fake. 100% FG all year, and some great 2 pt conversions not only added points, but momentum. Kids LOVED being able to say they were “snipergang” #txhsfbchat
A4: I am the s&c coordinator. This is my first year at this school and the biggest change is speed and intensity of the workout. Have added aux lifts in the main lifts with a time limit. Is creating a sense of urgency and we are seeing great strength gains! #txhsfbchat
A4) changing the tempo of practice to not have to condition was great. We run so many plays - so fast, conditioning isn't an issue for our offense #TXHSFBCHAT
I began being my own guinea pig
One month trying out new systems.
Lost 29 lbs, bench is up to 275 (twice, shut up @CoachRegalado)
Have found 2 systems that I really enjoy, and that are easy to teach... ready to implement one or the other at my next stop
#txhsfbchat
Q4: What was the best change/addition you made to your Strength and Conditioning? And what are you looking forwarded to changing/adding this upcoming season? #TXHSFBCHAT
A4: Still in progress but working towards year round weight lifting. No in season "maintenance". Training to get stronger, even on game day. The kids who never stopped lifting stayed healthy and continued improving. next step is trying to get ALL my kids in my class #txhsfbchat
A4: functional strength. Got away from the traditional necks and pecks focus and worked instead on what our kids need. Example of this, we rep close grip bench instead of wide, not too many blocks with your elbows out so why lift that way? Improving culture this year #txhsfbchat
A4: @JesseSmitherman did great job teaching the form of hang/power clean that helped our kids a ton. Also incorporating more flexibility and core/body stability lifts to our auxiliaries. #txhsfbchat
A4: making weight room attendance a part of being eligible to be voted as captain. The atmosphere is already intense (powerlifting incorporates w/) so getting more dudes involved made a huge impact #TXHSFBCHAT
Q4: What was the best change/addition you made to your Strength and Conditioning? And what are you looking forwarded to changing/adding this upcoming season? #TXHSFBCHAT
A4: From Mike Barwis - Adding a "mental toughness" Combo Series for my Lineman - 8 each of Pwr High Pulls, PCs, PushPress, Hang Cleans, BoRs - 40 reps total - weight doesn't matter. Put the bar down, start over. 3 Sets. It's brutal and 80% mental #PushThrough#TXHSFBCHAT
A4) We have an amazing strength coach @BAStrength our kids have gotten so much stronger across the board in the past 3 years. We recently purchased @LPAStrength Soupbone that I really like and kids seem to really get a lot of work out of! #TXHSFBChat
A4: P2, at the end of the season we put every athlete in our program through a form boot camp for squat and clean with just the bar, they couldn’t move on to weighted until form met expectation. #TXHSFBCHAT
A4: @coach_andyscott has always done a tremendous job challenging our guys to continue to improve and set RepMaxes even during the season. Always improving! #TXHSFBCHAT
A4: Biggest change in our weight training is having more coaches in the weight room. Also incorporating station work after the core lifts are done that challenge our players mentally and physically. Also added competitions near the end of the workouts. #TXHSFBCHAT
HSSocialMedia : RT txhsfbchat: Q2: What was the best change/addition you made on defense? And what are you looking forwarded to changing/adding this upcoming season? #TXHSFBCHAT

Games and competition...increases the intensity every time. Been doing a bunch of chase drills and single leg movements that I really think are beneficial to our athleticism. #txhsfbchat
Q5: What was the best change/addition you made to improve leadership/team culture? And what are you looking forwarded to changing/adding this upcoming season? #TXHSFBCHAT
Q5: What was the best change/addition you made to improve leadership/team culture? And what are you looking forward to changing/adding this upcoming season? #TXHSFBCHAT
A1: The best thing we did was establish our identity as an offense. We established a physical and nasty demeanor and we focused our offense around that. We also streamlined our communication systems substantially.
#TXHSFBCHAT
A4: excited for the winter sports to wind down and begin a whole team culture change...summer increase competition/toughness/position specific movements #txhsfbchat
We went more empty with the ability to throw quick, jet or qb run. We also did some Simple RPO stuff with adding back out to the flat pre-snap adding that to our run game. Oh yeah we also much better players this year
#txhsfbchat#playwithanEdge
Clarity of expectations. Players werent confused on what we wanted or WHY we wanted it. No cliches if there wasn’t a purpose behind it. Looking forward to building a community among parents/outsiders to support our athletes/programs. #TXHSFBCHAT
Q5: What was the best change/addition you made to improve leadership/team culture? And what are you looking forwarded to changing/adding this upcoming season? #TXHSFBCHAT
Didn’t do but want to ... reward and celebrate gains through promotions on social media or with something around the weight room. This generation unfortunately needs that often. Maybe have wkly comptio where team is broke up into groups. Workhorse type events . #txhsfbchat
Games and competition...increases the intensity every time. Been doing a bunch of chase drills and single leg movements that I really think are beneficial to our athleticism. #txhsfbchat
A5: Started off great with a leadership council but i didnt keep it going throughout season as i should have. This bootcamp we did before spring ball was fantastic https://t.co/E7bHPdWQS1
I would love to add some real leadership training for our captains this year #txhsfbchat
A5: setting standards to live up to the mission. The mission will drive everything that we do for the program. It will hold coaches/athletes accountable. #TXHSFBCHAT
A5: defined a mission for the program and implemented/sold it. Focus this year is building leadership to build on the program foundation we laid last year #txhsfbchat
A5: We are working on our changes now by starting a leadership council who will hopefully impact the entire program through the summer and next fall #TXHSFBCHAT
A5) I stress the importance of accountability to my qbs. Why? Because they are viewed as leaders both on & off the field.
I’ll admit, they have done a good job of leading by example. Kudos to them. #TXHSFBChat
Wrote a book "Growth Before Status" that I will give out to my players and parents at the first meeting.
Explains my entire view on team culture, expectations for the men, and how to go about Growth
#txhsfbchat
Q5: What was the best change/addition you made to improve leadership/team culture? And what are you looking forwarded to changing/adding this upcoming season? #TXHSFBCHAT
A5: This is a never ending process of evaluating & evolving but went back to almost extreme discipline and restructured our expectations last off-season. As usual the kids met our standards after a bit and it has really helped eliminate some issues. #txhsfbchat
A5) New staff with new exciting style of playing + branding of our program has completely changed the culture and perception. 10-3 & region champs when picked 5th in the region pre-season helps change culture also... #TXHSFBCHAT
A2) the best change up we did this year was one, having a couple of different looks and pressure to empty. 2nd was playing more kids early on as that experience helped us later in the year when it mattered more
#txhsfbchat#playwithanEdge
A1 Part 2: We will cut down our concepts and establish our brand of up tempo under center #PunchF run slap the hell over you and punish you downfield when you load the box style of football.
#TXHSFBCHAT
Hunter vs Hunted. Put them in various starting positions no more than 1 yard ahead. Loser has pushups. Hunter has to tag the Hunted. We have also done some 2 on 1 chases we got from @GoJacksFB 2 defenders shuffle to level of runner and runner has to split 'em #txhsfbchat
A5: Positive leadership, doesn’t have to be vocal always but positive. Need to have the respect of the other players and also set the example of what your program is about. Not fake, motivates others, good decisions away from the program. #txhsfbchat
Thanks to @txhsfbchat for letting me host tonight's Chat! I had fun and i can't wait to go through all of these responses and learn from you guys.
#TXHSFBCHAT
A2: From an oc’s perspective, our defense put an ungodly amount of pressure on opposing qb’s which causes a lot of problems for other teams.
#TXHSFBCHAT
