Q1 What are some of the best professional learning opportunities you have provided or attended? What was valuable about the learning? #NYCSchoolsTechChat
A1 our #GEGMeetups are a great bridge between networking and learning that is self-guided. Also, I want learning experiences that consider application and planning for practice #NYCSchoolsTechChat

A1 The facilitator course for @codeorg is college course-level training. I learned how to teach adults, not children. Turns out, it’s way different! #NYCSchoolsTechChat
Best ones model what they’re proposing instead of sitting and listening to people talk about it. That means hands-on creating something or playing something. I feel like it’s not arrogant to say I’ve a led a few like that and attended a couple-I learn by doing #NYCSchoolsTechChat

I like that those are teacher-led, short snippets, and you’re comfortable voting with your feet-like an EdCamp (although my first a actual EdCamp was not really like that) #NYCSchoolsTechChat

A1: Best I’ve done is “20 tech questions” where I sent out a single question Form a week early and did a 1-hour rapid fire PD based specifically on the questions submitted #NYCSchoolsTechChat

I think some of the most valuable professional learning opportunities I have attended are ones I have identified as areas I needed to improve on or things I have seen other people do that I wanted to learn. For me it’s about motivation. #nycschoolstechchat

I did a PD for the science department about activities for #CSedWeek2018 I think it’s always valuable when you talk about real world engaging activities #NYCSchoolsTechChat

#NYCSchoolsTechChat A1. I have attended a number of PDs on using tech tools for assessment and student engagement, including google forms, microsoft forms, apple clips. As well as parent communication tools such as Remind. Part of #NYCschoolsTech conferences and EdxEd, etc
Q1 What are some of the best professional learning opportunities you have provided or attended? What was valuable about the learning? #NYCSchoolsTechChat
A1: Best I’ve attended: sessions led by active teachers. Be it at PD days or large conferences, whenever the presenter is showcasing actual, real world application and not theory, but practice, those are almost always valuable #NYCSchoolsTechChat

It’s crucial, if possible, to query the participants about their need/experiences first to tailor PD. We expect pre-assessment with kids, why not adults? #NYCSchoolsTechChat

A2 Give the participants a venue to interact with you and each other throughout the training. Everyone brings something to the table. #NYCSchoolsTechChat
A1 I'd like to plug the #NewsLitCamp from @NewsLitProject Educators and journalists sharing ideas and resources for teaching #newsliteracy, community and civic engagement, understanding bias, news judgements and more! #NYCSchoolsTechChat
I loved at the @MicrosoftEDU training were we able to try to use the program as we learning it. This helps make it interactive and engage you. I know personally for me I like to have people make things they can use right away so that it is functional. #NYCSchoolsTechChat

Agree 100%. Educators want to hear from those who are not just talking the talk, but walking the walk. So important. Grateful for the amazing educators who lead so many of our #NYCSchoolsTech Partner Certification sessions. #NYCSchoolsTechChat

A2: 1-first address the why/who/how before you talk about which buttons to push; 2-build in time to play; 3-always be assessing where they stand; 4-teachers love STICKERS! #NYCSchoolsTechChat

A2: Two of my fave ideas for keeping learning interactive are: 1) Peer instruction 2) Frame Focus Follow Up. A little more about that here https://t.co/qJQmd3oTpc#NYCSchoolsTechChat

A2 Great point. Tools like Padlet, Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams and more are great platforms for interaction during and after professional learning opportunities. #NYCSchoolsTechChat
A2. Yes, totally agree. Some people can offer other ideas related to what was offered in the PD session. Allowing them to exchange contact information would help also so that they can follow up with questions in the future. #NYCSchoolsTechChat
A2 Give the participants a venue to interact with you and each other throughout the training. Everyone brings something to the table. #NYCSchoolsTechChat
Q5 What are important considerations we should have around ensuring professional learning opportunities provide a valuable experience? #NYCSchoolsTechChat
A5-Make it a simple as possible to bring it into my classroom. If I’m entering student info myself, or it doesn’t have assessments built in, I’m not interested. #NYCSchoolsTechChat
A5: PD leaders need to be responsive to those attending- also no PD is effective that is just 1 day (or hour). It’s important to provide information for attendees to continue their learning/growth. #NYCSchoolsTechChat

A5. Classroom teachers know best their needs. It helps when teachers run the PD sessions and talk how it has helped their students succeed in a specific skill or how it has facilitated their jobs. That way we keep it relevant and real. #nycschoolstechchat
Q5 What are important considerations we should have around ensuring professional learning opportunities provide a valuable experience? #NYCSchoolsTechChat
It is important that we continue to follow-up with skill development. Nothing can be taught once and then never revisited. It must be practiced and then brought to a higher level. #NYCSchoolsTechChat

A5 Actionable takeaways. Give me something I can take away and implement in my work. Change can start with one small action intended to make a difference. Disruption is when we all do one big thing differently at once. #NYCSchoolsTechChat

Setting up pilots w/schools. Last year we worked w/ @boardmaker. We created a partnership, trained staff & continued to learn the software & program this year more seamlessly. I think if more companies did this staff could get be more invested in programs. #NYCSchoolsTechChat

A6. Good Question. Edtech companies can create public forums to allow teachers easily ask their questions and get quick responses. FB groups are very useful. @RemindHQ@easel_ly@Microsoft has them, it helps getting an answer to an obstacle. Success is mutual #nycschoolstechchat

A5: Professional learning opportunities should include not only teachers but students as well! The @HighlanderInst Blended & Personalized Learning Conference (April 4-6, 2019) features student-run demos & classroom simulations. https://t.co/mT8XHMakmJ#BPLC19#nycschoolstechchat
A2 No matter the PD, provide participants the opportunity to practice the skill, build for use in their situation, and receive feedback from other attendees. Follow with reflection and modification to hone the desired outcome. #NYCSchoolsTechChat
