Good Evening, Jacqui Lehmkuhl from Troy. I am the department chair for THS and OCTM's vice-president of Secondary. This is year 22 for me. (I think.) #octmchat
Hi! I'm Christina... one of the Math Consultants/Coaches @HamiltonCoESC down here in Cincinnati... also the Past-President of @ohioctm - This is year 25 for me in education #octmchat
A1 I continue to learn from my students. They teach me how to coach them. What questions to ask, what number talks to have. As far as resources, @SteveWyborney and @gfletchy websites rock our math world daily. #octmchat
A1: Best resource are fellow teachers that continue to push, encourage, and empower me to grow. After my math peeps, it would be books that I read. #octmchat
A1: I learn any way I can - books, blogs, conferences, people. Most helpful resource is other people b/c they help me process, support, challenge me. #octmchat
A1 I read as much as I can. Twitter is a wonderful learning tool. I go to conferences when possible and love webinars. Social media has been my favorite #octmchat
A1: I have been lucky to work for a district that has provided some wonderful math PD opportunities through my career. Being involved in professional organizations has helped too. I’m never too old to learn! #octmchat
I guess it depends on how I define education. I started tutoring as a HS student in the 90s. Officially as a classroom teacher, this is Year 4. #octmchat
A1: In order to continue learning about math, education, and instructional practices... I love to read, scroll through twitter, attend conferences like @NCTM and @ohioctm ... and Math Teachers' Circles are a great way for me to remember what it's like to be a "student" #octmchat
A2: I love using 3-act tasks as an alternative pre-assessment. Typically, misconceptions and rich information about students’ thinking emerges. #octmchat
A2 One of my favorite ways to assess student understanding is to have students videotape or audio record themselves teaching a math problem. We use @Seesaw to do this, but I’ve also used the regular camera on tablets before. #octmchat
A2 I left the classroom in 2000 (goodness!) but love the current thinking about observational tools, formative assessments, exit tickets and rubrics. #octmchat
A2: I call them Math Chats. We have a schedule where each student gets at least one one on one math chat with yours truly. This has been a game changer for me. #octmchat
We did it in class as a formative assessment. Used a rubric that focused on practice standards. It was a great tool to assess justifying and critiquing. #octmchat
A2: Number Talks, Notice/Wonder activities, questioning, interviews are a few. These are assessing Ss thinking/understanding and providing feedback and not assessment for grades. #octmchat
Both! I give Ss time to watch each other’s and parents watch and comment on it. I listen and comment while I’m prepping dinner. It’s a great individual snapshot of each kid. #octmchat
A2: I always loved having kids journal - so eye opening and a great way to build relationships, Ss confidence and for me to uncover what they really know #octmchat
A3: I wish I would have known how much I could learn from visiting other classrooms... I wish I would have spent more of my planning bells in my colleagues classrooms (math and non-math) #octmchat
A3 It has taken me three full years to feel comfortable with “wait time.” Not just for students, but me too. Students give me information that tells me so much about their thinking that sometimes I tell them I need a moment of think time before we move on. #octmchat
A3 I so wish I would have had the "talk less, listen more" thinking. How much fun notice/wonder, 3 act tasks, open middle, number talks, (go on and on). #octmchat
A3 I wish I would gave known the value of mistakes, for myself and students. So much to be learned, and so little to fear. I spent a lot of time needlessly worrying (took 20+ years) #octmchat
It can take The form of “in the moment assessment” or planned instruction after you observe something that you want to explore more with the student. You literally ask the ss “show me” to prompt further modeling, representation, and discourse #octmchat

What a good reminder! I found in student teaching that it was so easy to stay comfortable in my own room, but I always learned when I went into other classrooms! #octmchat
A3: I wish I would have joined OCTM sooner. The professional collaboration of passionate teachers is contagious. And share your voice, your voice matters to the world of education. We are indeed better together! #octmchat
A3: more ways to connect with kids. Although I knew the importance of building relationships, there were so many early on I couldn't connect with and I needed more strategies! #octmchat
A3: constructive feedback is more important than grades, you can’t grade everything, stay connected, get involved, take advantage of PD opportunities, the kids will teach you tons, keep learning #octmchat
Oh good... I saw that it was "delivered" today! I expect to see some pictures! :) (and let me know if you want my go-to recipe -- @Dellometry's son can testify about their goodness) :) #OCTMchat

A3 I spent my first two years trying to “be” other people I had observed. I am a lot more comfortable and confident in my own skin now. I still borrow great ideas from others, but add my own flair. #octmchat
A4 I let students show me! By giving them choice of learning product they show how they learn best. I make sure students know that our classroom shelves are full of tools to which they can help themselves. (1/2) #octmchat
