Hey #teachpos! Alicia from NC - Lead Dig Learning & Media Innovation Facilitator at an awesome STEM magnet middle school! Worst Halloween candy is that dollar store chocolate - ew!
Adam. An actor whose been playing the role of "math teacher" for about 20 years now. Best candy: Peanut Butter Cups. Worst: I will pelt you with circus peanuts and flog you with Twizzlers if you give them to me. #TeachPos
Good evening! My name is Anthony Meals from North Central Kansas! I am a 8-12 Agricultural Educator and school bus driver for our school district.
Best Candy = Any chocolate with caramel
Worst Candy = Lollipops

My Ss in entry-level math typically classify themselves as unable and traumatized. By the end of the year my goal is for them to see themselves as generous helpers who can contribute to the growth and learning of their classmates. THIS IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN MATH. #TeachPos
#teachpos - A1 - I taught math, so I have kids place limits on their abilities and shut down all of the time. It takes a lot to reduce anxieties in math. I like my position now where I can make math more fun and approachable K-8, so kids don't hate math by middle school.
A1: I spent a lot of time growing up on "I can't" statements or "I won't be able to" statements. Took time reflecting on the things I have been blessed with and blessed to do for me to start "I can" statements. I hope I can do the same for my Ss! #teachpos@ERobbPrincipal
A1: great question and a tough one. Working with students with special needs I think they put limits on what they do according to their cognitive levels or ability expectations. We all need to keep the expectations as high as possible for all students. #teachpos
A1: I believe we put limits on ourselves daily. Can you imagine what we would be capable of if we stopped doing that?! I'm working on breaking through one of those self-imposed limitations now by writing my story. #teachpos
A1 - I think we all do this from time to time. I know I have in the past unknowingly put limits on kids who I didn’t think could handle tougher work. I never do that now. Our goal is “do great work for you!” #teachpos
I do not see myself as a tech guy at all. This year my goal is to use a Google-Sheets-based gradebook. With help, I've made it work! Tweetdeck, too! #TeachPos
A1 I had a student a couple of years ago that introduced herself and then told me she was good at language and bad at math. I was speechless at first, then I said of course you are not bad at math. You just need to learn it a different way. #teachpos

A1: As a kinder teacher, a main tasks is teaching Ss to see themselves as readers/writers, to love reading/writing, and basic mechanics of how to start reading/writing. Some Ss need lots of T support to begin to believe they CAN do such “grown up” things. And they do! #teachpos
A1: I feel that working in inner city schooos, Ss are always holding themselves back until they are shown their potential. Until they have that support behind them, they don’t know their true potential! Affirmations and celebrations are the best way to break through. #teachpos
A1: I think whenever our inner critic (Mine is named Myrtle) takes over, then our abilities become limited. We are our own worst enemies. I spend a lot of time teaching growth mindset to my kids and a lot of time reading some books to help me overcome my own. #teachpos
I'll bet most of us math teachers have had that "Day 1" experience from a student. Such a difficult starting place! But that's why we get paid the big bucks, right? :) HA! #teachpos

A1b - Setting high expectations if one of the strongest indicators of high achieving students. We must always stress the importance of growth and learning. #TeachPos

That's a deal. Peanut butter kisses were the only candy my grandpa had after my grandma died when I was young, so that is all we got. I remember him fondly, but not that candy! #teachpos
A1: I do my best to stay away from this self-talk or projections of this as we live up OR down to expectations. #TeachPos We must set expectations of Rigor and accomplishment.
A1: When I first started teaching I created excuses for my level of disorganization. Between my 2nd/3rd year of teaching I realized I was making the choice and limiting my own ability to be organized. Today I'm keeping a Franklin Planner and being much more intentional. #Teachpos
A1. Sometimes not knowing what to expect, and boom, the younger Ss are leading in areas compared to the older Ss! It varies, as to what projects we do, and what areas we are working on! #teachpos
A2: I need to stop overanalyzing everything. I will go over a conversation or topic again & again in my head. I desperately want to get into people's head sometimes & see the intention behind their words. I need to just take them at face value & teach Ss to do the same. #teachpos
I most need to learn how to not let bad decisions spiral out of control, especially regarding health. I can teach it to students with metacognitive exercises about how that looks for them (lack of sleep?) and what the inner dialogue is while taking each step. #teachpos
A2: Resilience and Grit! If we teach ourselves and our Ss and Ts how to have resilience and continue to push through the hard times, everyone becomes more confident. It is all about celebrations and recognition. #teachpos
A2 - I think for me it always comes back to a strong belief system in learning. While I truly think education changes lives, I continue to hope that students see that same message each day in class. #TeachPos
A2 wow another tough question. As a life-long learner, there are so many things I am still learning, but I would say that including technology in my teaching is my weakness. #teachpos
A2 - #teachpos - I think that I need to learn how to collaborate with others better. I think that this is something that we can definitely teach to our students. Beyond just getting students to work together, Ss should be collaborating every single day, just like adults do.
A2: I have had to learn to corral my perfectionism tendencies. I have also had to learn that I do not have to do it alone. I can lean on others, and I can give up control (once in a while:) #teachpos
A2: I need to work on patience. I want them to learn and practice and I become impatient when they don't work at the speed I want them to work. #Teachpos
Oh that's a good one! Yes - I definitely need to give up control! I'm better at giving up control to my Ss than to other Ts. (I can be a bit odd, lol) #teachpos

A2: Saying 'Yes' to what really matters. Too often I say yes to so many projects that aspects of my life that matter most get neglected. In a small school this is normal for both staff and students. We need to have grace with each other and realize we cannot do it all! #Teachpos
A2 I am always learning new things to share with my students. Anything I can do to build confidence, heighten engagement and provide good learning experiences #teachpos
Great question. I think for some that is an issue, while others need to gain more control. For those like me, working in partnerships/small groups is a good way to delegate and give up control. For those who need to take ownership, the opposite can be true. #teachpos

With first graders, I am actually working with them to take control of their learning. I think we have two many students who want others to do it for them and don't realize that they can control themselves and their destiny. #teachpos
A3: teaching hs Ss vocabulary is tough sometimes as there is a lot of academic vocabulary from science classes etc that I need to learn myself. I always tell them that I don't know everything and that vocab is something we are constantly learning. #teachpos
In my class, Ss learn new material, take an assessment over old material, and help each other (in small groups) with hmwk problems EVERY DAY. Learners, doers, teachers. #teachpos
Not seeing the Qs cuz it says “sensitive content” and won’t show the images. My school iPad has some filters, but.... doesn’t usually block stuff. #teachpos
I agree with this as well. Group work is hard for first graders and myself as well. And I now see I have a typo in my last tweet-there is that perfectionism. I am fighting the need to delete and repost!! #teachpos

A3 - We have a class that is open about leadership and learning. While I consider myself the teacher, I also make sure that students are teachers as well. Our focus is always on learning to be better each day. #teachpos
#teachpos - A3 - Students usually like a teacher who is being progressive and trying new things to keep it interesting. Students notice who is trying and who cares.
First time I coached pole-vault, I went to a clinic with my athletes...and I entered it as a vaulter! Whole season we learned together...doing and teaching. #teachpos
A3: There's no way I can do it all in our classroom. Therefore Ss have crucial roles that keep the classroom running smoothly and looking nice. They also spend much time peer tutoring each other. Lots of good noise...most of the time. #teachpos
A3: We look at the positive influence our Agricultural program has had on the community. Our students are out applying their learning in the community through service-learning projects and engaging with numerous community partners. #Teachpos
A3: I encourage Ts to take on responsibilities and show ownership of tasks. I do that so they can see how to encourage Ss leadership in the classroom. When they see that we all are learners, doers, and Ss, then everyone feels more empowered. #teachpos
A3: I am always trying new things with every new class. I also don't make a big deal about mistakes or failures. I let my kids see the human side of me. #teachpos
A3 My Students realize while I am learning new things I haven’t mastered them, things go wrong. They see me trying again to solve the problem or sometimes they know how to solve the problem #teachpos
Thanks for joining #teachpos tonight, everyone! Before you leave make sure to "follow" the folks who affirmed, inspired, or challenged you this evening! Be well and go create your class's destiny!!
A3: A S explaining his thinking about comparing 2 teen numbers told the class he saw the ones digit like people’s ages (disregarding the 1 in tens place bc same for each) - I’d never seen it this way, but his perspective helped other Ss understand how to compare teens! #teachpos
