The G&T students are pulled to do extra projects through the gifted program. A lot of the time those are SS based.

I would like to see a G&T program at high school level that is modeled after AP Capstone & application/inquiry based learning.

What is AP capstone? My school has capstone as grad requirement, but basic--would love an advanced option

Scholars like Renzulli are beginning to expand the label. We are in the midst of seeing a revolution in gifted labeling.

District my kids' attend has G&T program like this - inquiry based, ELA T uses Caesar's English prog.

The 1st year is all collaborative. It is a great opportunity for Ss to learn how to REALLY work as a unit.

It's difficult for a teacher to differentiate for mixed abilities. Many times, gifted are not addressed.

I was *just* thinking that. :) We've used it with PD with my teachers. Got to have them USE it.

That's a big thing, but so hard to teach. And hard to implement when you've got so much curriculum to "cover."

As the mother of a gifted artist but not an "officially" gifted kid, I so much appreciated opportunities thru gifted program.
We are on the same page there! (usually followed by there must be something wrong with my teaching)
Think some of it is response to inroads International Baccalaureate programs are making.
Right--its our responsibility to identify when Ss are ready to learn at a deeper level, not just make them busy

Choice is key. I also feel that the quality and text level of curriculum is key. A juvenile/abridged text can bore some.

Ts might consider developing conceptual based curriculum instead of standards or obj based. Can help G&T Ss

A4) Had APWH Ss create DBQs for particular topic. Gave them chance to see "problem" of DBQ from diff angle & explore sources.
A3 in 1 class I have 6-8 with very high achieving 8th but with 6th graders who work but R more deliberate. 8th graders have to wait

While Tomlinson is great for content areas, look at VanTassel-Baska. She's "guru" for differentiated prgming in gifted.
It went pretty well. Was challenging for them but think it helped them approach DBQs diff (for better).
Some G/T kids fail in an attempt to fit in with age-peers. Have to see kid thru multiple lenses...

Nothing works better in a Gov. Class than simulation and problem solving. Students become the role and begin to think globally

I looped with my G/T Ss for two years. Became evident who belonged to each camp. All wonderful kids
A6 tap into diff. mediums: lyrical writing, screenplays, presentations, etc. keep rigor high but differ the product
Think also has some great materials that could benefit G&T Ss.
All Ss need to demonstrate is that they have learned & can apply the concept to real-life application.
There are some great activities out there related to podcasts. My gifted students love listening or creating historian lect
