-
In our MS conference, top 2 Div. seeds have a title playoff. E1-W2 & W1-E2. Others finish w/ consolation game. W3-E3,W4-E4,W5-E5
-
John Mitchell DB coach Midwest City HS Midwest City OK. What it is, what it was, what it will be like fellas???!!!!
-
A1: As the season goes we will reduce segments and when playoffs begin, use JV players as scout more often
-

Q1: How do you plan practices to endure the regular season and a long run in the playoffs?
-
Cody Gardner
Park City, UT
The junk drawer Coach, little but of everything
-
A1: adjust time in each segment; more gaps between periods of tempo and/or thud; focus on mental over physcial
-
A1) I think you have to feel the focus and energy. Know what need time, stay focused, don't just be out there til 6 for giggles
-
A1: 1 idea we use...On def instead of doing a 12 play live period, do 6 plays live alternated w/ 6 formation alignments.
-
We are 5-3 overall and 4-1 and leading our district. We win this week and next we are outright district champs!!!
-
A1) You have to know your team know when to drive and when to let off the gas. Mentally you have to keep them sharp.
-
A1: When i was a HS assistant, we went shells more often to reduce the physical wear on players. Pulled up B-team & JV 4 scout
-
A1) cont, only section that gets longer as the season goes on is trick plays, learned that from
-
Q2: What are the keys to making a long run through the playoffs?
-
How do you teach/train your kids to still practice smart but go hard to prepare for the games as you reduce time/contact, etc
-
A1: We scaled back to 10 periods for O & D and make sure no one gets hurt, but we do try 2 keep practice uptempo & physical.
-
A2: Fresh legs; fresh minds go a LONG way. Don't get too cute, stay in your lane & do what you do. & luck helps
-
A2) never won a playoff game, all ears. So for me it would be win the first game.
-
A2: 2nd round is deepest I've been. Thought our 11-0 regular season team in '11 had a shot & took 1st round upset. I'd ❤️ 2 know
-
A2: Basically don't try 2 reinvent the wheel keep 2 what got U where U R and stay the course & keep grinding.
-
A2: Physical health, team unity, standing by the beliefs of your program
-
A2: Turn as much as we can into mental prep instead of physical. Be efficient with time on the field.
-
Anyone have a routine for a bye week. We had a bye round 1 last year, try to keep it light but still on schedule....
-
Q3: What do you do on your team to help avoid injuries (knock on wood) ?
-
A3: Two things I think have the biggest impact...we never tackle our own to the ground & we stretch at the end of every practice
-
A3) Limited contact, control scout team reps starters.
-
A3: Be smart w/drills N practice & try not 2 let them kill each other during team session. Also pray 2 the football gods. LOL!!
-
A3: We stay up in all drills and team periods. Never tackle to ground. Work all tackling drills 1/2 spd or on rolling dummies.
-
A3) We have had good weather this week for us, great for physical and mental health
-
-
Q4: How do you maintain team focus week in and week out as the season closes?
-
gotta hit weights hard in the off season. More muscle and strength = reduced rate of injury. Also emphasize sleep
-
A3: where I'm at, probably need to hope district has your practice field on the cutting/maintenance rotation
-
Agreed and I think lifting DURING the season is just as important! https://t.co/y7IJfH8P0t
-
-
gotta hit weights hard in the off season. More muscle and strength = reduced rate of injury. Also emphasize sleep
-
A4: Late in the regular season it can be difficult, depending on the games remaining...in the playoffs, focus is 1 week at a time
-
A4) I think it's too much to be locked in 2.5 hrs a day 4-5 days, heck it's too much for me. I want them to lock in 4 segments
-
my players are all convinced that I lead yoga on the weekends with the stretches I have them perform
-
A4: That's a never-ending battle that we as coaches tend 2 fight day in & day out. If U have the answer please feel me in.
-
Q5: How do you maintain personal focus through the long weeks as the season continues?
-
A4: Unfortunately this part of the year includes 1st Qtr report cards, benchmark assessments, teacher SLO's, outside practice
-
Joe Scruggs, OL/Dl Logan Rogersville High School, Rogersville Mo. Haven't forgot about you guys, sorry I'm late to the party!
-
A4, P2: Outside factors that affect focus of players
-
A5: Personally I exercise 5-6 days a week and I try not to take any work home...Netflix is a big escape for me, lol
-
really upset I missed the topic this week. Ill have to go through tomorrow and comment on everything
-
A5 cont: Just doing things that I don't think about football while doing helps me focus while working
-
A4, what works for us is pacing through practice, make practice short and concise. Create a good learning environment
-
A5: If U work work with a good staff that can make the weeks little bit easier and the kids just a little more tolerable.
-
-
A5) I try to block non football time on Saturday & Sunday. Yes that includes naps, ummmmm naps
-
A5: Time with family, make sure teacher/coach work is done when u walk out the door, watch a college/pro game as a fan
-
A5: I'm very much a creature of habit during the season. My routines are my focus.
-
-
Q6: How do you use the sub-varsity to help your team stay fresh as the season continues?
-
-
A5) cont' I joking say I give my wife 3 hrs a weekend. But we try to do something together, my fav is the dog parks,
-
A6: scout team scout team scout team scout team. Sometimes we have them play scout team too
-
I wish I could exercise that much! I'm just too worn down. But Netflix is definitely my release too!
-
-
A6: Scout team, they provide rest for the varsity by more people doing individual reps...& with extra work, they get better too!
-
Every Wednesday at 8p...even through the season!
-
A6: Scout team. Sometimes would plug a few in on some special teams to give guys a breather.
-
A5) Email & twitter with coaching friends, old and new. I gave away some 425 stuff last week, helping always feels good.
-
A5; I think as the season grinds on, it's important that your kids know you're still focused and that they still matter
-
THIS...when you're with the kids, BE WITH THE KIDS https://t.co/VhH7PgsR49

-
Ryan with the tweet of the night.
-
Q7: What intangibles are present in those special teams that compete and win state championships each year?
-
A5, cont. We finished our season last week, as we approached the last couple of weeks, we didn't reinvent the wheel.
-
Phillip Ketterman, clipboard holder. Holy Trinity Catholic HS. Temple, TX.
-
A6: Our staff split off/def so use scout team to develop young guys. Coaches can coach young kids on scout team in fundamentals.
-
A7: Discipline. Desire. Family atmosphere. WANT TO!
-
exercise is always good for the football soul the last half of the year. 5-6 day a week guy too..
-
that means I do the stats haha
-
A7: District/Admin support, positive community, players listening 2 coaches not "outsiders," proper feeder systems
-
A7: Many of the things we have mentioned tonight...health, perseverance, kids that work hard no matter their role, and focus
-
A7) spec teams: Simple, clear agenda executed to the highest level. Bring on depth & wrinkles as a process of the regular season
-
A6: Scout team, then some more Scout team, we try and make it positive, treat them like varsity
-
Great chat tonight! Awesome job sharing and connecting!
-
A2 (I skipped 1 ha) I would have to say os fresh legs. Kids have been after it for so long. Gotta keep them fresh
-
If you can't do it on special teams, you can't do it on O & D. Stick out on JV, get on a special teams, earn trust, get snaps
-

Thank you to every coach that takes time to make part of their week! Good luck this weekend!
