Good evening, everyone! Welcome to tonight's
-
Hello and welcome to tonights
-
Would love for everyone here tonight to share where you are chatting .
-
Please take a moment to introduce yourself, where you're from, and what you're looking forward to this summer!
-
Hi! Tim, engineer at here, chatting from Chicago. Looking forward to some sun! 😎☀️
-
Laura here, from Chicago, looking forward to connecting with more teachers using Classkick around the country!
-
Hi! Thomas, engineer at here, chatting from Chicago. Looking forward to some sun! 😎☀️
-
Hi! This is Jenny from Owensboro, KY and I am looking forward to fun in the sun.
-
We'll let take it from here and get the ball rolling on using iPads in the classroom!
-
Thanks! I love using Ipads with my 2nd graders everyday.
-
Q1. How do you use Ipads in your classroom?
-
really enjoyed using iPads with my middle schoolers everyday, too!
-
A1: I used iPads to have students read and respond to written prompts as bell ringers, which grew over the course of the unit
-
I like to have students reflect on their reading.
-
Q2. There are several apps that I love using my students to use for their reflecting.
-
Are your students reflecting in a blank document or is there something specific you're having them use?
-
A1:I'm interested in seeing if teachers plan whole lessons around iPads or if they use them within other lessons
-
Laura I use both types of reflections. With classkick, I can have predetermined questions for students to answer.
-
A1: I also used to have students use iPads to look up words, find synonyms and antonyms, find examples, etc.
-
With Classkick, I can be sure to check a students understanding of a specific reading strategy.
-
Tim, have planned whole lessons using iPads. App smashing makes this a wonderful and interactive way for students to share.
-
- you've got great ideas for how your students are using iPads! How do you check for comprehension?
-
App Smashing seems to be all the rage - what kinds of apps lend themselves to be used together?
-
- we're always impressed with the things you have your students do on their iPads. How are you using iPads in chem?
-
- Share with us - Q1: How do you use iPads in your classroom?
-
Using apps such as Pic Collage, TeleStory, Epic, Imovie are just a few that my students use.
-
So many visual elements to the day! Really makes me jealous that I'm not a student in your class!
-
- You're famous for your use of iPads around Periscope and TPT. Can you share how you got started?
-
- your kids were preparing for a zombie attack the last time we saw them. How do you use iPads?
-
- Can you share your management secrets? Q1: How do you use iPads in the classroom?
-
You shared that your teaching world was turned upside down when you got your grant for iPads. Please share!
-
For me personally, my experiences with APPs , I learned from Kami Butterfield. She is the APP Queen.
-
Yes! My reluctant readers quickly turned into engaged and eager readers when we received our iPads!
-
When you're trying things out with your kids, how do you have them rate whether they liked using it or not?
-
What are your opinions on using ipads for small groups?
-
And do you think it was just because they could see the words on the screen? Or the magic of text-to-speech?
-
s@jenny_b_day I absolutely saw value in both the small group and the rest of the class working at their own pace on ipads
-
use iPads mostly within my lesson more than as a lesson. But have done both.
-
Laura- usually through student participation, gives me an ideal of students enjoy the app or not.
-
you've got those students showing off their skills all over their iPads. What are your secrets for success?
-
I think it was because they could learn in a variety of ways and with the Classkick App they could learn privately.
-
Are they rating the app - or are you measuring their exit tickets based on what you're using? So many options!
-
for ipads in small groups, Ss interact with each other as much as their devices; that's better than just staring at a screen
-
Nothing like giving those struggling kids the safety net of trying it out without fear of embarrassment!
-
the best part of the app for me is the fact I can differentiate lessons for each and every student
-
-
Still feel like a guide mostly with the iPads. Leading Ss rather than them creating. So again used within a lesson mostly
-
- What do you think? Q2: What are your opinions on using iPads for small groups?
-
Like a tour guide that provides some information, but students soak up the learning by seeing and experiencing!
-
- you're newer to the iPad game, right? What life lessons have you and your students been learning?
-
There are ways to promote student creativity without stringing them along through premade questions
-
- you're mentoring new administrators - what kinds of iPad tips are you giving them about teacher'/students' use?
-
Are you thinking along the lines of having students doing the creating of their own questions?
-
App smashing is a way for students to break free from the direct teach/follow format if stuck for ideas with Classkick
-
Where do you weigh in on this debate? Q2: What are your opinions on using iPads for small groups?
-
-
Does that mean that a student gets to suggest, "Oh, I could do this better if I tried it in ___ ?"
-
I like to use ipads for self paced learning
-
You've got those advanced high school students... how do you feel about using iPads in small groups?
-
What do you think? Q2: What are your opinions on using iPads for small groups?
-
Mostly with my small kiddos, I have instructional videos that I have created or animated videos that teach a topic.
-
And do you also use your iPads for the accountability piece with their chosen self-paced path?
-
I enjoy using iPads with small groups
-
what are some of your favorite APPS?
-
Any special things to keep in mind as you're pulling a small group towards you with iPads in hand?
-
Yes, students ipad experience. Will all students be able to maneuver through the app successfully.
-
As an Apple Distinguished Educator, you've got loads of experience on this one: Q2: using iPads for small groups?
-
Definitely key - and also - if they get frustrated (at the tech or the content), what should their next step be?
-
Laura- peer interaction, peer help, peer tutoring
-
As a Kindergarten teacher, you've always got creative ways to keep your beginning readers on board! Opinions?
-
Most of my students can do so much more than myself.
-
And if they're in your small group, you can coach them on making sure those peer interactions are positive!
-
There's also so many more of them - so utilizing the power of numbers helps when giving instant feedback!
-
Laura- Digital Citizenship is a must.
-
You've got lots of ideas for - can you share why you teach with iPads?
-
Are you using something special for your digital citizenship for your students? A set curriculum?
-
With small group it's do the work on your own then share or project work and then show groups solution on overhead projector
-
As you're morphing into a tech geek, any advice along the way? Do you use iPads in small groups in your class?
-
That's a great example! Whatever they find easiest to create and demonstrate their mastery!
-
-
-
Thanks for the great resource on Digital Citizenship!
-
I really like that idea of and students agreeing what the focus for their online presence should be!
-
Digital Citizenship is the first step before even putting Ipads into students hands.
-
You've pushed for your students to have that digital citizenship. How are you using iPads in small groups?
-
You've talked about small groups working collaboratively in the past. How have you set that up successfully?
-
In a normal daily reading setting, you will find myself conducting a small guided reading group, another group listening
-
to reading and reflecting. Reading online stories with a buddy, creating stories with illustrations and much more.
-
I've used the iPads in small groups by sending leveled passages to diff ability groups
-
How are you using iPads with your students in CPS? Q2: What are your opinions on using iPads for small groups?
-
Like the idea of Ss taking control of classroom social media; I just worry that Ss start social media too young
-
Ss are using social media before they even enter school.
-
So I think it is important to teach them the correct way and safe way to use social media.
-
Excellent - and do you have classroom discussions about skills where they pull details from their own reading?
