I just saw #masterychat in my twitter feed - not sure what to expect, but I am excited to be here! I'm Janet Winninghoff, Middle School Academic Technology Coach for @nisd in San Antonio Texas.
Hello all. Hope everyone is doing well. I’m Sebastian. I started as a Teachers Aide in the computer lab of an Elemn. School way back in 1998. I am currently the Network Manager for Barbers Hill ISD and just started in my Ed.D this semester at SHSU. #masterychat
A1: Tech allows me to put students in the driver's seat and take a step back. I can differentiate to their needs and set them on a path of independent learning. #MasteryChat
#masterychat. Technology has changed the way that I learn as a teacher of teachers in many ways. I listen to podcasts on the way to and from work, read books on my Kindle app and of course Twitter
#MasteryChat A1- technology has helped in so many ways - one of the best ways has been Skyping with other schools around the globe from Brazil to Russia
A1 Technology has helped take learning global. Being able to help coach teachers and students to see the learning opportunitiesavailable outside the classroom because of technology is invaluable #masterychat
It’s made my #flipclass easier to pull off than it used to be. Vids are better. Get more real time data on formative assessment for quicker adjustments or better personalization. Ss have more tools in project based learning to show off knowledge. #masterychat
A1: Was the first brave sole to use social media in the classroom & to communicate w/ Ss and parents. Took advantage quickly and grew an awesome program! #MasteryChat
A1: I’ve been able to collaborate and allow my students to be creative. Also, it’s a helpful resourceful to engage my learners. I’m going to experiment with a read aloud and discussion questions with another class through @Skype Countless ways really #masterychat
A1: I have seen countless schools try to use tech as a solution to their problems. Technology is NOT a magic solution, but it is an opportunity to do things differently and #ShakeUpLearning!
#MasteryChat
A1 Social media puts me in touch with Latin users all over the world and by playing @assassinscreed students are able to "visit" the ancient Roman and Greek worlds. #masterychat
A1 - Tech has allowed me to differentiate learning in ways not previously possible. It also allows me the greatest ability of student choice and voice! #masterychat#ShakeUpLearning
#masterychat - A1 - Technology, more specifically blended learning, allowed me to completely change my classroom from teacher centered to mastery based student centered through self paced instruction. Tech allowed me to be a more efficient teacher in reaching more kids
A1: #MasteryChat Technology prepares Ss for the future long before college. Immediate feedback. 👍🏼👍🏼 Technology reaches almost all learning styles, if utilized correctly.
A1: Technology has allowed me to modify assignments much easier for students at different levels as well as provide additional support from across the room without makingthie student feel as though they are being targeted. #masterychat
A1 I teach science and the #IQWST interactive digital edition from @ActivateScience has allowed me to use technology to better assess my Ss in a quick fashion Its been a game changer for me #masterychat
A1: Tech allows students to explore their work and collaborate more efficiently. Using Ctrl+ f to explore keywords in their piece of writing is one way to open eyes. #masterychat
A1 - Technology and its many facets can allow any teacher to more easily support, differentiate, and personalize learning in their classroom! It can allow you to become the coach, motivator, and facilitator instead of the content “deliverer”. #masterychat
#masterychat A1: Empower Ts. We went 1:1 with chrome books from a donation. Ts shifted their instruction by identifying individual levels for Ss to make it more personal.
A1 I have been using @Seesaw for the past 2 years. My students have been able to document their learning and parent communication has been amazing. #MasteryChat
A1: Technology has helped me find ways to make learning more relevant for my students. It is about equipping students for their futures over our pasts. #masterychat@ERobbPrincipal@PHausTech@KTuttleEDU
A1:
I teach drama, and often my SPED students and ELLs are shy about our performance assessments and rehearsing. @Flipgrid has helped me hear their voices and give them confidence. #masterychat
A1: Technology has allowed our students to expand their experiences to places all around the world. We have been able to talk to people in almost all continents. #masterychat
A1 Tech allows me to give students choice in their responses. It also allows me to differentiate and provide whatever supports students need to be successful 😀#MasteryChat
A1 Technology has helped because it gives my students options in how to complete their work, assists students that need things read aloud, collecting data, and opens the door on creativity. #masterychat
Hey, Nicola from Wellington, New Zealand here. A1. Tech has helped us to collaborate with each other through GAFE, share learning with family through blogging and @seesaw. We can also collaborate with other schools. It also enables us to be creative. #masterychat
A1 - Not only has it rejuvenated my passion for teaching, it also has been instrumental in differentiating lessons for my kiddos (reading levels 1st grade - 9th grade) #masterychat
Q2: How does the learning grow and evolve in your classroom beyond one-and-done activities? How do you connect one activity to the next? #masterychat#shakeuplearning
A1: It provides opportunities - Assistance for those who need it, can transport my Ss half way around the world, connect with so many more people - experts and Ss alike. Also allows my Ss to be amazing creators of content and share it with the world #masterychat
A1. Technology has given me more opportunities to address student individual needs and learning styles. And the ability to easily collaborate with my peeps. #masterychat
A1: I think it allows you to connect with students on different level and more excitement than before. It also allows them to be the teachers and help me with tech issues sometimes! Can go at own pace for learning. I could keep going #masterychat
A1 Technology has changed everything! You name it, it is now changed. No more chalkboards very little paper very few pencils. Students are building creating connecting communicating and collaborating #masterychat
A1) Technology allows us to:
differentiate for ind. students
mirror the real world
provide more meaningful feedback
keep parents up-to-speed
gamify the classroom
interact with international students
#masterychat
A1 How has it not?! Ed has been dreaming of ways to make personalized, differentiated, connected learning a reality since the internet first hinted at the possibilities.
I think we have FINALLY reached a tipping point with the tools we have available today! #masterychat
Q2: How does the learning grow and evolve in your classroom beyond one-and-done activities? How do you connect one activity to the next? #masterychat#shakeuplearning
A1: Our district went to Google Suite last year. We are now using a teacher input/data Sheet to monitor student learning to identify trends in individual student progress. We monitor to provide intervention/enrichment based on need. #masterychat
A1~ has strengthened family engagement via social media & gives our families & community a glimpse into some fab learning activities ~check our page out @MrsBemis44 & also having a live, working document of classroom highlights has been a fan favorite ~ limitless ❤️#MasteryChat
A1 Technology has given access and availability from learning with others to making connections, there’s less barriers in the tech field. Having live learning is amazing for myself and students. #masterychat
A2: Economics class — a stock market game where students must use the knowledge we gain in class to buy/sell stocks in class. Gamify economics. #MasteryChat
A1: Tech in the classroom began as simple as chalk & a board. It’s amazing to think that roughly 100 years ago the country was working on building high schools in rural areas & now those same areas have items such as AR & VR tech at their disposal. #masterychat
A2: Have the vocab connected on a slide deck then as the Ss progress, the vocab becomes a story. Ss can use that story to model deeper levels of understanding. THEN they can go back and apply to multiple units. #MasteryChat
A:1 Technology has been transformative. Students using Google Classroom has allowed for immediate collaboration with peers, reducing the photocopied madness. #masterychat
Q2: How does the learning grow and evolve in your classroom beyond one-and-done activities? How do you connect one activity to the next? #masterychat#shakeuplearning
A2: One advantage to today's tech, is that we have the ability to move BEYOND one-and-done assignments, we can digitally assess and allow student's to continue to work and grow in new ways. The turn-in process shouldn't stifle learning!
#MasteryChat#shakeuplearning
A2: My students are creating digital portfolios...google sites...where they are storing and comparing work with others. They can see that last week's work matters this week!
#masterychat
A1)I am probably slow to the game, but I am using Seesaw this year and it is a game changer. Ss can take pics & videos of their work. This is shared with the parents, but it also allows me to see work I might not have seen otherwise.Good2use as formative assessments. #MasteryChat
A2 - Using #thegridmethod the learning path is clearly set up and aligned directly to standards using DOK. Intertwined with technology as well as engaging projects and Learning Opportunities students can THRIVE! #masterychat
Bonus question!
What area of education do you think has been MOST impacted by technology? Leave a comment with whether you think this impact has been positive or negative!
#masterychat
A1 Technology has opened the world to my students, opened previously closed doors with the @MicrosoftEDU Learning Tools, provided voice and choice with programs such as @Flipgrid and @goformative, and helped with differentiation with @Newsela. There are so many more. #masterychat
Name's Matt aka Mr. Weimann, and I like goofing around, esp with my daughter, Scarlet. She usually looks at me like this: Daddy's a wierdo;)
So excited for this new "dynamic" thing in my life, the #masterychat 's
A2 going beyond one and done means that technology is a part of the flow and not just an add on. Students know that it’s just there as the tool to accomplish the task of learning. #masterychat
A2 Using sci storylines creates a building model of learning where one concept builds to the next That #NGSS format brings in coherence so you are always readdressing concepts & skills #masterychat
A2: Peer reflections and amplifying student voice. Not only are we teaching them the content but tech allows us to bring in more skills that are suitable to all students. #masterychat
A lot of scaffolding and spiraling (most intentional, some by luck). Things are built as levels like a video game, getting progressively harder but relying on previously obtained skills/content. #MasteryChat
Q2: How does the learning grow and evolve in your classroom beyond one-and-done activities? How do you connect one activity to the next? #masterychat#shakeuplearning
A1: technology is used to enhance lessons, create personalized learning environments, and allow Ts to learn from each other asynchronously? #masterychat
Q2: How does the learning grow and evolve in your classroom beyond one-and-done activities? How do you connect one activity to the next? #masterychat#shakeuplearning
Q2: intentionally planning some some things so they spiral and revisit with more challenge or applying what they learned. Connecting subjects and topics that students dont see the connection right away but finding one to help them!#masterychat
A2 Learning with technology proves that learning is continuous and a journey. It’s a work in progress per say. Being able to connect and gain skills to help our students in their future beings learning full circle. #masterychat
A2: I use mastery trackers for kids to continuously track mastery of different objectives. Kids constantly assess where they are, and we draw attention to when they’re applying/extending previous learning. #masterychat#teachbetter
A2: Always trying to experiment with integration and making those real-world connections across content areas. Project-based learning rocks! #masterychat
A1: tech has given me the opportunity to move from the classroom to teaching teachers 💕 AND! Because I live in the middle of no where, it has given me the opportunity to continue my education with the EdD journey 💕😁💕 #MasteryChat
A2) Very few things in life are one-and-done...it’s all inter-related. We should be striving to provide continuity and connections between all learning.
#masterychat
Q2: How does the learning grow and evolve in your classroom beyond one-and-done activities? How do you connect one activity to the next? #masterychat#shakeuplearning
A2 For me, it is critically important to build/design a path through the learning with increasing complexity that allows my students to move at their OWN pace, proving their understanding as they go. It would be MUCH harder without #edtech! #masterychat
A2: It makes it easier for me to track where the kids need reinforcement on skills not yet mastered. It also gives the kids soooo much access to sooo many different resources - not just boring old articles to read. #masterychat
Q2: How does the learning grow and evolve in your classroom beyond one-and-done activities? How do you connect one activity to the next? #masterychat#shakeuplearning
Q2: How does the learning grow and evolve in your classroom beyond one-and-done activities? How do you connect one activity to the next? #masterychat#shakeuplearning
A2:
In my class, we always build upon each unit. We start with very basic speaking on stage to working on movement. Then more complex acting. Technology helps me differentiate. #masterychat
A2: I try my best to spend time at the beginning of each class reviewing of what has been taught the previous day as well as during the week. making more relevant connections to the students so they can better understand concepts has also helped me #masterychat
A2a Using #formativeassessments as "mile posts" gives a T the opportunity to clearly track where they've been and what they can re-connect to #masterychat
A2 I try to create a progression of skills and show my Ss the links between what we have done and our new learning. It has worked really well in ELA #MasteryChat
Q2: How does the learning grow and evolve in your classroom beyond one-and-done activities? How do you connect one activity to the next? #masterychat#shakeuplearning
A2) Reading evolves:we learn new reading strategies, building upon previous 1s; writing:same; math: spiral; I do4math stations a day.1 is a spiral station,&another hits on the previous week's concept. Every day I add an additional layer of complexity to the activity.#MasteryChat
I use Themed Internships to emphasize the purpose of learning. Love that @TechieTeachOtt is exploring her own Teach Further Units this year! #MasteryChat
Q2: How does the learning grow and evolve in your classroom beyond one-and-done activities? How do you connect one activity to the next? #masterychat#shakeuplearning
I only teach #3rdgrade but I can use @GoogleForEdu tools to communicate and #collaborate with my Ss outside of the #classroom time. It's better than email and texting to sit at a computer and work on the same slideshow with a kid in real time... at 6PM. They flip! #masterychat
A2: I think that key to ensure that learning grows and evolves is to have a big picture when planning. When you know your destination, you can take different routes to get there (adjust to your kids and their needs) and still arrive in one piece. #masterychat
Q2: How does the learning grow and evolve in your classroom beyond one-and-done activities? How do you connect one activity to the next? #masterychat#shakeuplearning
A2: Economics class — a stock market game where students must use the knowledge we gain in class to buy/sell stocks in class. Gamify economics. #MasteryChat
A2: I always ask my Ss to apply what we're learning in lit to pop culture they encounter everywhere else - what we learn has relevance outside the classroom! #MasteryChat
A2: Gamification. My year is wrapped up in a narrative where my Ss are characters and all our units are tied into the story. Hitting outcomes and units where they meet the story #masterychat
A2: I start with the basic foundation, achievable by all students, then build and connect, always referring back to what was previously taught and why it was important. #masterychat
A2. As a band director, my class is structured (layered) for growth. The skills they learn this week, or the music from concert 1 is meant to make the next one easier. Kinda like what we do in every class and subject. All lessons should lead to the next lesson. #masterychat
A2 definitely by connecting each activity to the last one. I also teach the same theme that the center based teachers are teaching for their reading class so we can expand on the information. #MasteryChat
A2~ use of digital tools&resources are seen as a part of the teaching/learning/sharing Not as an add on, but an integral part of our growth as learners ... #MasteryChat
#masterychat - A2 - Learning should grow and evolve with the students. If what you are teaching isn’t relevant towards the ultimate goal of mastery and creating lifelong learners, then why are you teaching it?
Q2: How does the learning grow and evolve in your classroom beyond one-and-done activities? How do you connect one activity to the next? #masterychat#shakeuplearning
A2 I try to connect lessons or strategies across the curriculum. 1 ex. We make inferences in all different subjects. We were on the Windy website tracking Michael for our weather unit, but using the map to incorporate our new social studies content #masterychat
One of many ways I use tech is #blogging. My kids blog and then they can comment on one another's posts. I use @Kidblog a lot. This commenting keeps them busy for weeks! #masterychat
A2.2) We do theme units as well, but it's based on enduring understandings, and tied into social studies & science. We just started our new unit which is on senses. #MasteryChat
A2: I like to start with familiar concepts in my ELA classroom such as plot and then show how adding character, setting, etc. can help with theme and symbolism. As we learn, I benchmark with @CommonLit to check for understanding of standards. #masterychat
A2: I like to promote e-portfolios that require Ss to revisit topics and make connections while proving that they are mastering content and skills. #masterychat
I had a girl take a blank grid today and explain it to her friend. The friend commented that it looked confusing, by my kiddo said, "No, not at all. It actually makes everything easier and I can work at my own pace. I love it." #proudteachermoment#masterychat#thegridmethod
A2 I try to start with a problem that the ss are working to solve. They see their tasks/ learning as keys to unlock the solution. Each task builds on the next connecting prior knowledge so ss don’t feel like they are starting at step one everyday #MasteryChat#LATIC
#masterychat The bridges for me are built by purposeful talk and allowing students the time to absorb the information independently and collaboratively- growth comes from seeing the big picture and the big picture comes from hands on activities and inquiry lessons
Q2: How does the learning grow and evolve in your classroom beyond one-and-done activities? How do you connect one activity to the next? #masterychat#shakeuplearning
A2 - Ts are now able to carry lessons beyond the four walls of the classroom, making learning a real-world experience and not just a 45 min quiz. #Masterychat
I was fortunate to have a teacher in high school give us a lesson on this. We tracked our stocks in the local newspaper (1997!) and then reported back. It was awesome. #MasteryChat
And it's going really well! One of my students today asked me what our next "theme" was for the unit we are starting on Wednesday. :)
I told him he would have to wait and see. :)
#masterychat
Doing #pbl right now with macromolecules. This has always been the worst area of the year and the kids are doing some of their best work. Projects due 10/31. #MasteryChat
A2: In Latin, we constantly come back to the same kinds of questions and structures as we gradually expand the topics we're able to talk about. In Video Production, we are starting to work on an ongoing stock footage project. #MasteryChat
A3-by giving them multiple opportunities to practice and apply the skill needed to complete the original task. Process connection. #MasteryChat#ShakeUpLearning
A2 - Ts are now able to carry lessons beyond the four walls of the classroom, making learning a real-world experience and not just a 45 min quiz. #Masterychat
A2 More and more we r doing project theme based units containing all 4 language domains. For example for a unit on natural disasters the ss had to read current event articles, connect through skype w/ a class that had lived through a hurricane, record their opionions. #masterychat
A digital worksheet is still just a worksheet. Not inherently bad. Not inherently good.
But certainly not transformative or innovative!
How do we push it FURTHER?
#masterychat
A1 - I use technology as a tool for feedback, a way to engage the digital-native Ss I teach, and it has made learning for me, a lot more accessible #MasteryChat
#MasteryChat Technology is the alternative route, the highway sometimes- it enhances the journey but for me digits over digital is my jam- but I love @nearpod and @flipgrid
A2: don’t design one-done activities. Purposefully plan for connections for the intro, during the experience, and leading to the next learning experience #masterychat#shakeuplearning
Q2: How does the learning grow and evolve in your classroom beyond one-and-done activities? How do you connect one activity to the next? #masterychat#shakeuplearning
A3: THIS is so important! Students need a bigger audience than the teacher! We use @writereaderapp to publish our stories! This is an excellent platform to create a message for younger students
#MasteryChat
So many teachers aren't even there yet! They don't know what they don't know. The connected educators get it, but they aren't here. How do we get them here!??? #masterychat
A1. Technology opens learning globally for Ss in classroom beyond the four walls! Allows Ss to design their own projects, and be creative, and share their learning with others! #MasteryChat
A3. Students add their learning to @seesaw to share with parents, including mistakes so they can learn from them. We "publish" work to the world on our blogs and try to give the messages of why we are doing what we are doing. https://t.co/xoUVQ7hopV#masterychat
Q3: Some of our work is published for the world...most is not for NOW but will be later in the year. We're gaining confidence in our skills and digital tools first! We will publish everything later. #masterychat
#masterychat -A3 - Students own their material. They can post it if they would like, but I feel uncomfortable posting things on their behalf. That said, I REALLY wish I could share this awesome credit card student rap video with you!
A3: I teach HS seniors but I struggle with "publishing for the world" - I give them that option as a way to demonstrate learning, but it's not a requirement. Maybe after I start the blog I've been talking about for months I'll be more comfy making it mandatory. #MasteryChat
A2 - Each assignment we work on builds skill and concepts. In my classroom it is important to break down huge tasks into smaller more accessible pieces so everything we do is a block in the tower of learning we are building #MasteryChat
A3: Keep in mind, you can share student work without any risks to privacy or safety. You don't have to share names or faces. Let them use "Pen Names!" #masterychat
A3 We haven’t shared with the world yet. We do post for our families and I will tweet out our work from time to time. I don’t feel ready to make that leap. #MasteryChat
A3: The moment students get a comment, a shift has happened. My students suddenly cared much more about the quality of their work when they knew someone besides me was going to read it.
#MasteryChat#shakeuplearning
A3: I would love for my Ss to publish their work however my district has strict policies of sharing anything outside of the school district or building. #masterychat
A3) At minimum, students have to be given the opportunity to present their work for someone.
Nothing worse than talking to a kid who is making a presentation, asking when they’re going to present it, and have them tell me they’re just turning it in.
#masterychat
A3 - YES! It’s vital for students to publish their work with the world. It creates an authentic audience, and it allows Ss to be heard. Everyone wants to be heard, why limit it to their T? Also, it creates a sense of authentic pride in their work. #MasteryChat
A3 - Using dynamic design with #teachfurther is an amazing way to accomplish this! With aligned and well developed units that focus on community and career connections, not only does this allow for Ss to reach out just as much as it comes into the classroom! #masterychat
I’ve found that tech is definitely an #edtech resource to increase student engagement. It also allows teachers to become more efficient with feedback and assessment. @DanHogan25 uses is regularly I believe. #MasteryChat
#MasteryChat A3- I am always encouraging a global audience- my Ss put their T-shirt they designed on Twitter and we got a few sales to help save the oceans https://t.co/xI7eNQTQeo
A3: We haven't made it to that level yet!! But my students do some amazing things. As a class, we tend to relate almost everything to their immediate world and that's worth sharing. #masterychat#shakeuplearning
A3- I want to, but middle school kids are, well, middle school kids. Eventually their work will be "out there". I am taking baby steps. But we are moving forward. #masterychat
A3: After careful support because of security and we are still practicing copyright laws and citing sources. I think this progresses once students enter middle and high school #masterychat
Then yes! We did do this! haha. :-)
@screencastify to record their voices + No names were given away. The students were able to share their work! #MasteryChat
A2 I avoided one-and-done lessons in my 30 year teaching career I taught cross curriculum project-based lessons connected globally & created meaningful activities Former ss still talk about lessons they remember when they had me 20 years ago especially the bird calls #masterychat
That's depriving students of a critical learning experience. A conversation needs to happen about how to do this without risks to privacy and safety. #masterychat
A3: I want to help my students publish to allow for an authentic audience, but I’m not there...yet. I do advise the school newspaper, so some work is published, but I could do a better job in ELA. Any suggestions? #masterychat
I’ve found that tech is definitely an #edtech resource to increase student engagement. It also allows teachers to become more efficient with feedback and assessment. @DanHogan25 uses is regularly I believe. #MasteryChat
A3b: This does make me think of ways that I could possibly get students to share their work publicly and sadly I don’t think I’ve taken enough time to do so #masterychat
A1-we can collaborate and learn from experts and other classrooms around the world. Students can now demonstrate their thinking through video not just pencil/paper. I can give students feedback on work from anywhere that I am;instant feedback. #MasteryChat#ShakeUpLearning
#MasteryChat A3: the world, we haven’t, but within our building or for other Ts to see, it be great if more did. Be proud, and show off student sample can build confidence and change T mindset on some potential at risk Ss. Ex: struggling behavior S loves to draw, show off his art
I’m not in a classroom this year, but we still have some pushback on that. We used G Sites - but with student accounts, you could only share in the district. #masterychat
A3 Not for the entire world to see, but we have posted things on @Seesaw for their classmates and parents. I don't know how many of my *middle schoolers* would be willing to have writing/video of theirs in a diff language on the internet...baby steps #MasteryChat
I think the key to tech is in how we use it.
Using software for strict, inflexible placement and to remove creativity from the classroom? No way!
But there are so MANY ways to use it that are hugely beneficial! Sometimes it is a baby &the bathwater situation.
#masterychat
Yes! If students are going to do the work to become Masters, why keep it all to themselves? Go help another person in the community master the information too! #MasteryChat
A4: My entrepreneurship students create their own real companies and run them for 12 weeks. Very public experience for students from websites to social media do selling events #MasteryChat
Still a work in progress. I am working with staff to consistently connect themes and skills throughout the school day. Not where we need to be but have a start. #masterychat
A2. In STEM, skills that Ss learn, they will use throughout the class to problem solve real life situations! Using knowledge they have acquired, skills, hands on learning, observations, etc. #MasteryChat
A3: I also have a class @instagram account, where I post pics of what we are doing. Sometimes it's final products but more often students working together or demonstrating a skill. #masterychat
I 100% agree w/this.&on the other hand, fewer paper copies is earth friendly. So, there R benefits. Now, if that's all weRdoing, then there's something wrong.Yet, if we r looking for digital alternatives as a way2 help keep our earth green & clean, then that is a plus. #MasteryChat
A3 I do not directly publish my Ss work, but I love sharing their thoughts & sci processes on Twitter They get a kick out of people "like"ing their work #masterychat
A3 - We do not in my classroom for various reasons in regards to privacy, however we are working on finding a way to share our work with our peers and school #MasteryChat
A3: Keep in mind, you can share student work without any risks to privacy or safety. You don't have to share names or faces. Let them use "Pen Names!" #masterychat
A3 The publishing side is something I need to promote more with teachers. I’m loving these ideas, gaining confidence as using pen names. They need these sharing opportunities and what a great way to teach digital citizenship than to allow the publishing #masterychat
That's awesome and clearly something that has stuck with you! Innovation doesn't REQUIRE tech. (though... tech can make it more global/efficient/interesting if you ask me!) #masterychat
A2. In English it’s easy to connect content units to themes- throughout my entire year, everything students do connects to the concept of heroism. What makes a true hero? How can they become one? #CharihoLearns#masterychat
A3 We have not done that. I do use Seesaw and Class Dojo, but that's been for them. I looked into Kidblog, but noticed that there's a charge for it. #masterychat
Timely feedback is KEY. I love using @Screencastify to leave feedback for my students (so personalized) and I save sooo much time! Post the link to the video in a comment- Ss have access to it and can watch while embracing the power of pause. #MasteryChat
Agreed. We talk about efficiency regularly with instruction, transitions, assessments, feedback, etc. By increasing our efficiency we allow more time for instruction and differentiated instruction to specific student needs. #masterychat
True! I just have seen a big push for going paperless that is less focused on green initiatives & more focused on making a claim to be technologically innovative!
The key here is honesty and reflection- why are we putting the worksheet digital? and is it working? #masterychat
A3: I haven't started teaching yet but I believe this is a good way to teach students to be proud of their work and not be stopped by limitations. By allowing others to read said work, they are able to show how truly creative and innovative their work is. #masterychat
A3 When I was a science teacher I connected my class in PA with a class in NYC We exchanged ideas about rooftop gardens & shared ideas about science We used Google Docs & Google Slides took pictures and video Not really a global blog but it truly made a difference #masterychat
A1: loving all the answers so far! I'll add it's allowed me to build stronger connections with parents and to involve them in their child's daily learning. #masterychat
A3 Students love having their work published for the world to see. From their parents to other educators, twitter and social media allow the world to encourage and support our students daily. #masterychat
Talk obsessively about it, lol.
I have been most successful when I just share success stories in casual conversation w/colleagues and pique their curiosity that way.
Also, when we do have someone "bite" on the technology idea, we have to be purposeful in how we...
#masterychat
Yes! It's a digital portfolio. Ss take pics and videos of their work, and when the T approves it, it goes into their digital portfolio. You can have parents linked as well so they see their work. There is also an activities tab where you can leave work for your Ss. #masterychat
Q4: How do you help build a continuous learning mindset in your students? Have you ever had students set their own learning goals? #MasteryChat#shakeuplearning
...show them things. Don't throw a thousand tech tools at them at once. Ask them what they want to be able to do or what they find challenging, then find ONE solution that might work for them.
Ts are like Ss. Throw too much at them and they shut down. #masterychat
Q4: How do you help build a continuous learning mindset in your students? Have you ever had students set their own learning goals? #MasteryChat#shakeuplearning
Q4: How do you help build a continuous learning mindset in your students? Have you ever had students set their own learning goals? #MasteryChat#shakeuplearning
I don't know what grade you teach, but I recommend @Kidblog . It can be free. I pay for more features. You can keep it private, and only logins will see postings. But Ts can make postings public for kids. They can earn the privilege of going public. #masterychat
A4: I just had my Ss set their own goals! I also model the mindset by having them give ME feedback every Friday and what worked for them, what didn't, and how next week can be even better! #MasteryChat
A4 - #thegridmethod has students write daily goals and gives them true control over their pace and learning. By empowering students and scaffolding learning to build success students begin loving learning and becoming more confident! #masterychat
A5: I love to have my students set goals inside of Google Calendar and have it give them notifications as they go along. It’s great because students can update their goals as they go along.
#MasteryChat
Q4: How do you help build a continuous learning mindset in your students? Have you ever had students set their own learning goals? #MasteryChat#shakeuplearning
Q4: How do you help build a continuous learning mindset in your students? Have you ever had students set their own learning goals? #MasteryChat#shakeuplearning
The impacts of Daily Reflection and agoal Setting is through the roof. Don’t just “find the time” - make it purposeful and allow it to change students mindsets! #MasteryChat
Q4: How do you help build a continuous learning mindset in your students? Have you ever had students set their own learning goals? #MasteryChat#shakeuplearning
A3b. It's not a "I don't think they can do it" thing. It's purely hormonal. Kid can come across as "mean" when they are just poking fun. I am more concerned about them being humans first. Be uplifting and positive first. They will learn. Eventually. #masterychat
A4: Not letting Ss settle. Always pushing for more. Letting them drive their learning, providing opportunity for Google Hour or Passion Projects #masterychat
For our class to see on @CanvasLMS and on Google yes. And You Tube for podcasts and stop-motion videos. I had parents sign media waivers so my students could share on- line #MasteryChat
A4 There are two constants in my room 1) I model for my Ss to question everything! 2) Model being a life-long learner Those two keys create a never satisfied mentality where we are learning together in our shared learning space #masterychat
A4: The concept of Ss choosing their own learning objectives is a great one! Set broad standards and then allow students to choose within those standards what to learn. #MasteryChat
A4 I have my ELs come up with learning goals for the year at the beginning of the year. We use our dialogue journals to discuss those goals throughout the year. At the end of the year the students reflect on their goals. #masterychat
A4 As a SLP, I work off of the IEP. Before every IEP meeting, I sit down with the students and talk about what their priorities are and goals they want to focus on. #MasteryChat
A3: This is a goal of mine this year! We build websites in 7th, and I can’t wait to let them go live! Key is making sure parents are in the loop. But, making a REAL product helps kids grasp that they can do important work NOW - no waiting required. #masterychat#ShakeUpLearning
Agreed. We are a green school, so these r things we consciously think about, which is why I mention it. Like I said, we should be doing more than digital sheets, but if we are trying to be earth friendly, that is also one way to approach that goal. #masterychat
A4 - Ss set at least one thing they want to learn and we reflect on it at the end of the quarter. For some Ss it might be bringing my materials to@class, some want to be able to write better or read better. I let them set that goal #MasteryChat
#masterychat A3: I just discovered an organization called WITS that partnered with a grocery store in our city. They published student created poems for shoppers to read while they shop. https://t.co/lVC0siXyoB
@googleclassroom has been a game changer to include students in all parts of the learning and creation process. Instant, frequent feedback with multiple attempts to make corrects and learn from their mistakes, which is where learning occurs most.
Q4: Absolutely I think important part! They need to know part of learning is making mistakes and learning. We set goals on reading and math track growth. Students let me know when ready to show mastery #masterychat
A2: I consider everything my students need to learn in the school year. I am always reviewing and previewing content with my students. This helps students background knowledge and builds their confidence by the time I teach the next Big Idea. #masterychat#shakeuplearning
A4: In order to inspire our students to embrace learning and encourage a learning mindset, they need to see US embracing learning.
I'm always sharing what books I'm reading, or what I've learning during a meeting or pD
#MasteryChat
A4 - My Ss have created their own QFT questions based on their interests for our Learning Targets. Giving them choice in how/what they learn creates ownership. #MasteryChat
A4: Goal-setting is empowering (and an #ISTE standard)! Help students to set goals both for the content in your class and BEYOND. What would s's choose to learn?
#MasteryChat#ShakeUpLearning
Q4: How do you help build a continuous learning mindset in your students? Have you ever had students set their own learning goals? #MasteryChat#shakeuplearning
#masterychat A4: when working with @ChrisTienken we always discuss the “now what” or “so what”. That simple question keeps pushing Ts or Ss to think larger, gain deeper knowledge, remove surface level ?’s and answers
Q4: How do you help build a continuous learning mindset in your students? Have you ever had students set their own learning goals? #MasteryChat#shakeuplearning
A4: Our school encourage a #growthmindset with the students through personalized calendars, benchmarks, and things as simple as tracking their grades on PowerSchool. #masterychat#shakeuplearning
Q4: How do you help build a continuous learning mindset in your students? Have you ever had students set their own learning goals? #MasteryChat#shakeuplearning
Geeking out over this thread about @Screencastify!
I LOVE screencasting for so many reasons and use it all the time!
Can we just start a screencasting club? :)
#masterychat
In reply to
@RaeHughart, @Stella_Pollard, @TamiJ123, @Screencastify, @Screencastify
#masterychat - A4 - Teaching the student agency and the importance of a growth mindset must be intentional. Goal setting, conferencing, and reflection should all be intentional parts of your practice. This builds relationships and ultimately relevance.
Q4: How do you help build a continuous learning mindset in your students? Have you ever had students set their own learning goals? #MasteryChat#shakeuplearning
Also, I am not a huge fan of worksheets in any case. In some instances it can be necessary, but I'm more of a hands on kinda gal. I just wanted to highlight why a T might go that route. #masterychat
A4: I did a “Mindset Monday” activity with my class last semester. The results from the pre and post mindset quizzes indicated that it was a worthwhile endeavour. #MasteryChat
A4. I have. With "guidance". I try to give my kids freedom. I get better products and results. Loosen the leash. The results can be amazing.
#masterychat
So this happened today...I told my class "I don't know the answer, we should look into that" When they see me as a learner, they are not intimidated by "teacher" interaction They get hungry & stay that way #masterychat
A4~
~ we start by using a class response when the littles say “ I’m Done!” ... then we all shout ... “We’re never done learning! “ 😊~ it works & becomes embedded into their conversations & shifts their thinking ✅& Ts need to model their continuous lrng as well
#MasteryChat
A4: Forever challenging Ss without letting them settle. Encouraging students to challenge each other and build each other up. Small goal setting is key. #MasteryChat
I use #SBG for all my courses and allow them to retake/redo assessments (with criteria, no freebie) but also allow them to test out of portions of their final with a proficient score on each standard on the last time they are assessed. #MasteryChat
Q4: How do you help build a continuous learning mindset in your students? Have you ever had students set their own learning goals? #MasteryChat#shakeuplearning
Yes! What I do now instead of a long email to introduce myself at the start of the year is to record a 5 minute video and send that out! They see my facial expressions, body language, enthusiasm- sets the stage for a great year!
#masterychat
Find time for daily Goal Setting and reflection! I loved presenting on this last week at @ILReadCouncil with some outstanding IL Teachers! #MasteryChat
A4: Goal-setting is empowering (and an #ISTE standard)! Help students to set goals both for the content in your class and BEYOND. What would s's choose to learn?
#MasteryChat#ShakeUpLearning
A4: Be that model is number one. Pair them up with a buddy to support and be supported. Setting goals is fundamentally important at any level. #masterychat
A4 I held office hrs with my ss once every 2 wks Ss came to my desk & talked about their grade their projects what they accomplished so far and what they wanted to accomplish in the next 2 wks They had time to ask questions The meetings were so profoundly meaningful #masterychat
A4 We try to focus on their individual learning goals daily to keep a Growth Mindset. my students set their own goals and strategies to achieve their goals. #MasteryChat
I love individual learning goals- I like letting students be self-advocates. I also appreciate frequent feedback from them on how I can help them meet these goals. I have comment cards and 1-minute check ins weekly to help students stY on the growth mindset trail #masterychat
Q4: How do you help build a continuous learning mindset in your students? Have you ever had students set their own learning goals? #MasteryChat#shakeuplearning
Thank you! I mostly use screencastify to make videos to explain or demo things to my Ss parents', or to record myself reading a book and leaving it for my Ss. I am ready to up my Screencastify game! #masterychat
A4 - I model growth mindset and discuss my current and past experiences as a learner. I have unsuccessfully experimented with having students pick learning targets (and need to try again!). #masterychat
A4 I model growth mindset, I also bought the Growth Mindset's Playbook and do some of the activities in there. We have class meetings where we discuss this, give boosting compliments, and help each other problem solve. #masterychat
A4: Behaviorally, I have had students set their own goals. Knowing some lack in reading, I’ve also asked to set a goal. For me in my SPED world, it’s easier for Ss to connect their mindset to behavior goal setting than any other subject goal(s) #masterychat
A4. Working with Ss on setting goals for themselves in the classroom which they can set for themselves to achieve! Keep a portfolio or folder that they can refer to, and annotate as necessary. #masterychat
A4 In the district I was in previously we were using the Personalized Learning idea where students worked through modules at their own pace. Part of this process was them setting a goal for what completion would look like by the end of quarter. #masterychat
That is a lot of pressure to carry...every experience, even familiar ones, are learning experiences Key is to see the learning in everything #masterychat
A4: We mainly operate through projects. I’m constantly reminding kids that @Apple products are never “finished,” and that our projects aren’t either. We have deadlines where we move on, but if they’re “finished,” there’s always an improvement to make #masterychat#ShakeUpLearning
A4: letting everyone know the goal is growth to mastery, and not everyone grows in the same way or at the same rate. And constant reflection #masterychat#shakeuplearning
Q4: How do you help build a continuous learning mindset in your students? Have you ever had students set their own learning goals? #MasteryChat#shakeuplearning
I've seen some Ts designate a "class reporter/photography" as one of the weekly jobs for students. The designated student uses an iPad (or some other camera tool) & snaps pictures all week. At the end of the week, they choose favorites to share w/ home/school/world. #masterychat
Kids are SOOOOOOOO worried about their grades. I want them to more worried about their learning. Grades really tell us nothing. Except who can complete a worksheet on time.
#masterychat
I am a special education T. Before I progress monitor (for example-oral Reading Fluency), I remind my students how they did last time. Then we set another goal after I progress monitor. Just one example #masterychat
Q4: How do you help build a continuous learning mindset in your students? Have you ever had students set their own learning goals? #MasteryChat#shakeuplearning
Love the idea of #learninggoals! Never did that. I keep my kids in the growth game by modeling, mostly. I am a spas for learning, and I share my passion with my class. This yr I am attacking #garageband and @Twitter --That's right, I didn't start this biz until Aug. #masterychat
I saw it truly making the students more accountable and motivated. They had a goal to strive for and were much more engaged in the lessons this way. #MasteryChat
A4) Teaching S's that nobody is perfect and everybody makes mistakes. Having quotes about famous people who have failed can be very powerful #masterychat
A4: ask a million questions!
& they almost always set their own goals. Early on, I realized my goals were not as high as theirs. Students who feel in control of their education are most often very bright stars 🌟 💕#masterychat
A4 I ❤️this Q for so many reasons! I talk to the Ss about First Attempt In Learning & give the opportunity to correct & learn from mistakes. We talk abt goals now, am going to have Ss set & track goals w/ the next grid I do. I think it will keep some on track.#masterychat
Q4: How do you help build a continuous learning mindset in your students? Have you ever had students set their own learning goals? #MasteryChat#shakeuplearning
A4) Oh yeah! My littles always set goals. Reading goals, writing goals. They even reflect on their work habits & set goals for those as well. #MasteryChat
A3 #MasteryChat A continuous learning mindset is emblazoned and illuminated when we every day reinforce that risk taking and hard work pay off. When we intentionally listen and actively guide our students- learning is comfortable and safe
A4 I have had Ss set their own goals for fluency before. We would talk about what they would need to do to meet their goal. I haven’t done it with my Ss this year. We do talk every day about what we did well as a class and what we need to focus on the next day. #MasteryChat
All your names are now written down and I will be bugging you to brainstorm ideas. :) Let this be the first official meeting of the screencasting club!
All in favor say "Yay!"
#masterychat

@TamiJ123, @RaeHughart, @Stella_Pollard, @Screencastify
A2: It's not all about the content we're learning, but the skills they're learning - problem solving, perseverance, conversation and so on. Those skills build on one another and evolve into deeper learning. #masterychat
A4. We model a positive mindset and celebrate when students do too. Our students set goals often and reflect often. Sometimes we set goals about areas we need to use a positive mindset. #masterychat
Q4: How do you help build a continuous learning mindset in your students? Have you ever had students set their own learning goals? #MasteryChat#shakeuplearning
#masterychat jayne from Pittsburgh jumping in late. In my 7th grade Ss learn basic info involving art project , then they have an art challenge that expands on the previous lesson
A4 Ss are encouraged to show off what they remember from past units and school years when writing/speaking. Relying on past knowledge boosts confidence a lot of the time #MasteryChat
A4 Technology is a great tool to show the power of learning is a journey. Our students need to see progress and see results too. It’s a great data journey & conversation starter too. #masterychat
. A1 games like Kahoot make it more dynamic, the power of shared documents for team work is huge, and the opportunities for publishing and discussing are great. #masterychat
A4: I am looking for new ways for my students to set their own goals. Since we are done with our first district exams, I have been meeting with my students to set up a goal to improve for the next time. Please share some other ways with me. #masterychat
A5: By teaching the students how to create MORE with the Google Suite for EDU! Slides are not just presentations. They’re books, infographics, posters and so much more. 1 size doesn’t fit all.
#MasteryChat
A5: Give the bare minimum for requirements for any projects. Become an “out of the box/I didn’t know there was a box” thinker yourself. When you praise creativity, they will follow the praise with more creativity. #MasteryChat
A4: Setting their own learning goals is interesting. I used to let them craft their own avenues to success when I wasn’t a tested area. I’m at a point this may be something I could pursue again with confidence. #masterychat
A5 - I model and encourage creativity when I incorporate food into learning, we use pies cakes, pizza, even jello to make real world connections and as ‘manipulatives’ to strengthen understanding of concepts. Bottom line, I like food #MasteryChat
A5: a great way to encourage creativity and innovation is by offering choices.
for example, if student prefers #sketchnoting instead of writing, then I let them
We all express ourselves in different ways
#MasteryChat
A5. Encourage and celebrate the PROCESS rather than the final result. If students are inspired in micro-steps their final products will ultimately be more of a creative passion project than ‘just another assignment’ #MasteryChat
A5: As a teacher, no one gave me a textbook on how to teach creativity. You can't teach creativity, you UNLEASH it! It's about creating a culture and environment that is conducive to creation and innovation.
#MasteryChat#ShakeUpLearning
#masterychat A5: Try not to be a helicopter admin, but rather visit or join in on classes. We had a T that did an escape room activity, while I missed it I couldn’t be more pumped to see S interest play a role in S learning. Support PD opportunity for all Ts
A5 - One way I encourage creativity and innovation is to find each individual S’s personal interests and collaborate how they can incorporate it into their learning. Similarly, you have to relinquish all control to allow room for ingenuity and innovation. #MasteryChat
U r so much more than just a fan girl. Now you are the president of the club. My how things have changed over the duration of tonight's chat. You started as a lowly chatter like the rest of us. Now, president of the @Screencastify club. #masterychat
In reply to
@Stella_Pollard, @Screencastify, @TechieTeachOtt, @RaeHughart, @Screencastify
Yes! Too many specific directions and requirements can totally stifle creativity! They need choice and room to stretch their creative legs! #masterychat
A5: I think by always asking for another way we could do and acknowledging creativity in all forms. We have integrated STEM and this has helped all stake holders and brought creativity to front of what we do!! I have a Dojo point creativity #masterychat
A5. How can you send me your best work? Maybe its @Flipgrid maybe its @Screencastify maybe its Google Slides, Docs, etc... Give the kids options. Its not how they do it. Its that they do it.
#masterychat
A5 Choices about how to show their learning. Ss can use @Seesaw to record their thinking. We use #BookSnaps for main idea, retells and following a character. We use plays and puppets to retell as well. We appsmash and I plan to add green screen as a skill for my Ss #MasteryChat
A5: Whenever there is a report or presentation of some kind in a class, I offer creativity through different forms of media to my Ss, especially those with special needs bc many thrive with using technology to get their message/vision across. #masterychat
A5: goes back to Q3. Make the work public so Ss & Ts know their work is shared with an audience, and give choice a.k.a. here’s the problem, now you solve it #masterychat#shakeuplearning
A5: Allowing students to guide their own pace and experiment is new to me just this year. I am having ELA students explore topics and themes to lit with nonfiction they find on the web in my next unit and then connect them with a response. #masterychat
A5 I encourage creativity with Choice Boards with lots of interesting ways to respond. I model creativity by continually learning new things to share with the kids #MasteryChat
A5 Modeling! As a technology integration Specialist who coaches teachers it is so important that I Model innovative ideas with my teachers participating if I want them to do it with students. Just talking “at” then in s PD isn’t going to work. Model and immerse them #masterychat
A5 continued. & also, think outside the box to model creative innovation! Hearing students ask ‘We’re doing WHAT in English class today??’ is so great, because I know they will be thinking & designing creatively if I challenge them creatively. #MasteryChat
A5a: Creativity and innovation are at the top of my list this year! We started this year with a design thinking challenge to redesign English class. Later in the year we'll be doing a project based on DT with a bent on innovation. #MasteryChat
A5 in almost every unit Ss are asked to create their ideal something. even a drawing and description of their ideal sandwich elicits enthusiasm #MasteryChat
A5. Creativity isn't taught it is unraveled from each student. They all have some, but it needs to be untapped. Teaching them to think outside of the box is important. Dont be like everyone else. Be an individual in life and school #masterychat
#masterychat Discrepant events- get students puzzled and they will problem solve for hours. A makerspace gets the juices flowing: when they see loads of supplies they will think outside the box.
A6: All of my rubrics end at 90%, with no specific definition of how to get the last 10%. Kids are told to be outside the box and creative, but no rules. I made the change post-@DanielPink’s Drive. The level of work/innovation is WAY better than before the change. #masterychat
A5. For creativity, students can share their learning through Inquiry learning. They can work through it in many different ways according to their needs and interests. #MasteryChat
A5 The biggest step I have taken towards encouraging that creative/innovative thinking in Ss is to BACK OFF!
If we walk them step by step through the learning, they won't NEED to think for themselves. Provide resources. Help when they NEED it. But mostly, back off! #masterychat
#MasteryChat#ShakeUpLearning A1 Allowing me to find primary source speakers that can shared their stories with my students. Started in 2013 in our 1980s class with Mark Goodman and now has extended to all our SS classes. Engages Ss in the study of history.
A1 joining in late and on and off as at a #msedumeet but technology has let students be in charge of their own learning (the teacher is not the only source of info) and has made lessons fun and engaging #masterychat
A5 I encourage creativity by asking for ideas and questions, giving time to research and build, and allowing different styles of work...well choices in how some things can be completed. #masterychat
A5. By proposing that they solve real world problems such as global warming, world hunger, fresh water for all, etc. they usually come up with some unique ideas! #masterychat
A6: My tech challenge this year is Canvas!
I've started creating one for my class but I feel like there's more I need to be doing!
Love google classroom but our county uses Canvas more
#masterychat
A5: Create a culture in your class or school that allows risk taking. Encourage kids to try new things, and explore their own learning. Provide kids with voice and choice, and watch them grow. #masterychat
#masterychat - A5 - inspire creativity and innovation in students by giving them the choice of how to learn and how to show mastery. Allow students to bring in their own interests into a project.
Check out these slope intercept math projects about @FortniteGame
A6 I have first graders, we have some difficulty logging into programs (I use Clever whenever I can). My Ss also do so much better on the tablets. I have another DonorsChoose project going to get 2 more iPads. #MasteryChat
A6: Also, whenever I show student examples, I include the disclaimer that their project can’t be the same/same theme as the exemplar. The system they’re in rewards doing the exact same project- we have to actively encourage innovation. #teachbetter#masterychat
Me too! I am starting a unit in a few weeks where we will be exploring combining like terms by....
wait for it....
Making cookies!
#Yum#boom#masterychat
A5)Promote a growth mindset so Ss fele free to explore&take risks (yes, even when it comes to creativity). Also, don't be so quick to give Ss the answer. Let them explore & discover. Let them learn through exploration that something won't work, but another route might.#MasteryChat
A5: Also, whenever I show student examples, I include the disclaimer that their project can’t be the same/same theme as the exemplar. The system they’re in rewards doing the exact same project- we have to actively encourage innovation. #teachbetter#masterychat
A6: Getting more teachers to see past using tech as substitution and seeing the value of allowing student voice and creativity to run wild! #MasteryChat
A5. In STEM, giving Ss multiple opportunities to demonstrate creativity by makerspace project bags, designing things by cardboard and creating, building, experimenting, taking things apart, assembling things, etc. #masterychat#masterychat
I like crafts. I have my students, esp at the beginning of the year participate in several proj. where they can show #individual qualities. We make #paperpuppets that represent ourselves to go in a pirate shp that we assemble together. All of this transfers into tech #masterychat
A6 - As a district we are going 1:1, for my Ss this is a challenge because we struggle with remembering notebooks, what happens when a S leaves their device at home? also help my Ss log on, the struggle is real #MasteryChat
A5: Started #passionprojects with my students. To show this off as a teacher, I let them know when they are my guinea pigs (some even made guinea pig noises during the actiivity, I ask them for help and to show me how to do things (especially on their Chromebooks!) #masterychat
A6: Is this besides tech actually working when you need it to? 🤪 But for serious, getting Ss to feel comfortable using tech is the challenge I want to tackle. Some Ss have strong feelings against using tech in class. #MasteryChat
#Masterychat A6: Continue to stay in the “know” with fresh updates. Increases internet bandwidth speed, keeps programs fresh and learning the most recent. Support Ts when their is a tech issue to get it quickly fix to minimize disruption to the instruction
A5 personalize learning, promote student-centered learning, provide students with choice that tailors to their interest, and challenge Ss with real world apllication/problems. #MasteryChat
#masterychat - A6 - now that I am an instructional coach, the challenge is now providing help and training to teachers looking to implement technology. Doing something yourself is much easier than convincing someone else to do it.
A5 I gave each class chart paper and had ss write down their ideas & hang the charts on the walls. The other classes could see what the other ss were doing & they used Post-it notes to make suggestions share ideas improve upon ideas Total collaboration! #masterychat
I can understand the difficulty with tranferring from Classroom to Canvas but once you explore a bit at a time, you’ll discover Canvas has so many more options than Classroom and Ss to become fluent more quickly than you think #MasteryChat
A6. This is gonna sound really bad........ giving students quick and relevant feedback when they turn stuff in digitally. Usually done outside of the "school day" which cuts in to ME TIME. I will do better!!!!!!!!!!!! #masterychat
A6: Tech should be leveraged to enhance learning. I need to find more ways in ELA to allow Ss to explore language, literature, and research in ways that meet standards, but are also more self-guided. That’s real life! #masterychat
Our county just paid for MAP Skills for students in special ed. I’m trying a more personalized learning approach to narrow in on those specific skills that my students are lacking and push them to more grade level work. #masterychat
They go above and beyond in their product. Lots of different ways to do it! Better when you don’t define it :) Last year, our first project to teach this was a class values mini poster. The 90% poster was on paper. Here were some 95-100%s #masterychat
A6 I use it everyday with my students. However, my challenge is to find ways to allow them to be more creative, set up more on Pear Deck and Nearpod, and making a little more time for Tynker. #masterychat
A6: I want to create some anytime, anywhere PD opportunities. So far I’ve tried @moodle and @MicrosoftTeams but I’m always looking for ways to improve participation and make digital learning better #masterychat#shakeuplearning
I'm starting to see this! I'll keep playing with it. I would say - today, I'm much more comfortable with it than I was last year!
Thank you for your help! #masterychat
A6: Modeling for teachers how to integrate tech into lessons, and not use tech as a glorified worksheet. Tech is still an uncomfortable topic for many Ts and admins must do a better job of modeling and showing them how it integrates for Ss to create and collaborate. #masterychat
A6 Having more patience with the Ss and peers who are still learning :) That and have the kids take more ownership of their work by somehow creating a digital portfolio (or something like it). #masterychat
A6 as a Tech coach I have to remind teachers and students that it's not about the tech tool it's about what they are creating what the end product is and how they will meet their learning challenges and achieve their goals #masterychat
A6: Creativity and Innovation require risk-taking. We have to give students opportunities to do things and answer questions that don't just have ONE correct answer, to find creative solutions.
#MasteryChat#ShakeUpLearning
A6 I know I can't control Ss preferences, but I'd love to waste less paper this year. Just getting Ss (who don't need "paper copy" accommodations) to accept that they have do the work on their iPads would be a small victory for me #MasteryChat
A1: Technology has allowed me to teach 21st century rhetorical skills such as assessing the credibility of information found in the digital world. This is key to raising critical 🤔, not 🐑. #masterychat#WeTeachUp
