A1: I have yet to find one that has not had a conflicting schedule issue for me, but I would love to attend one soon!
what times are you and blog dropping tonight? 😂
A1. Have not attended one yet. Something I need to put on my list.
Super pumped to be here!!
A1. It's time that I have a vested interest because I'm 100% in control. Not making connections move to a different session
Edcamps remind me that pd has to be flexible, creative, personal
huge fan of edcamps. sad to miss this weekend. So many like minded P to bounce ideas off of.
I like how edcamp lets me know what's on educators' minds, what their concerns are & some possible solutions
welcome back, Char! bound?
They're such a different kind of PD experience. Definitely attend one when you get the chance
A1: Tried my first one this summer. Amazed by the open exchange of ideas in sessions without presenter. Learned so much more.
I want to know more about Ed Camps; not from Ohio, but a teacher who is joining to learn more!
A1: It's not just free PD.... It's freedom PD. I get a choice on what I want to learn about and collaborate with awesome ts
hi Neil, hope schools off to a great start for you!
A1: I have learned the power in involving the room in sharing the learning, instead of just one person speaking!
A1:I think the format forPD has opened my eyes to different viewpoints, ideas & philosophies that have made me better
A1 Edcamps gave me a leg up to sharing what I've learned with other Ts. Gave me the confidence to present again.
A1 Very interested!! Haven't had many near by where I live to attend. On the bucket short list!
Enjoyed learning from you
A1 Haven't been to one but REALLY want to try one. I wish there was one closer to me in the Cleveland area.
Ding ding dind https://t.co/1j7Kxm8ZU9
A1: It's not just free PD.... It's freedom PD. I get a choice on what I want to learn about and collaborate with awesome ts
Please share with me what you were thinking after you walked away from your first edcamp? https://t.co/RfcUQHcWM4
They're such a different kind of PD experience. Definitely attend one when you get the chance
Hello! I'm Kimberly, Detroit 👍
Tim, elementary principal, from Batavia, IL jumping in for a bit tonight.
A1. After meddling around for years. I found my calling with a flip class and self guided learning style. It has rejuvenated me
A1: Having a choice, sharing instead of spoken too, involved.
A1. In a world of guidelines and regs, it allows me to be a professional
A1: love the opportunities they provide! So many different types of learning in one day! Can't beat it! Excited for Saturday!
It's such a great model for collaborative learning https://t.co/3Z6vTH9QV2
A1: I have learned the power in involving the room in sharing the learning, instead of just one person speaking!
A1: I have been to one, and I think it was reassuring--we're all still learning.
A1: perfectly stated!! https://t.co/9AosGMuxMM
A1: It's not just free PD.... It's freedom PD. I get a choice on what I want to learn about and collaborate with awesome ts
A1: That, given an opportunity, we all have something to learn and something to teach.
A1: never actually been a part of one, but have heard good things.
A1: Opportunity for educators to share real issues & identify practical solutions; great chance to build a team of professionals
A1 - Haven't been to one yet, but plan on going to one as soon as I see one in my area. Definitely on my PD to do list
A1: I love learning something new and relevant. I had a hard time picking sessions last time!
A1: Gain ideas to bring back to our bldg to positively impact Ss & Ts. Led a great PD session style this week-insightful!
Attended several Edcamps. Changed the districts PD opportunities to mirror Edcamps. The most powerful PD ever attended.
amazing the learning that occurs when you release the power of the learning to the students!
A1-I love meeting up with so many from my PLN. It's fun to see my Twitter friends in real life! Met this summer!
Has made we ready to start fresh and join when I can attend one
A1: I like the open forum feeling of them. I think not having a set agenda encourages people to explore more things
A1: our Edcamp style PD is a great way to learn from the "experts" within our own building.
Stopping by by way of Massachusetts. Brian, HS principal.
AND you get to meet up with your friends from all over the state, right! 😉
That was probably my favorite part of EdCampLdrOhio. https://t.co/BXRpZjrSYY
A1-I love meeting up with so many from my PLN. It's fun to see my Twitter friends in real life! Met this summer!
so, you get to answer the second part. What is holding you back? Check out the site for locations.
edcamps allow me to share the amazing things my kiddos are doing in the room. Gives me an opportunity to bring back new ideas.
Jason Vogel, Central Ohio Science teacher *first year* I haven't attended any non-district run PD yet but am excited to learn!
Awesome-glad you're here. We're on Q1
Can't wait to offer an edcamp in my district. So powerful!
A1 also great opp to grow professional network as we are all striving for the best for those students we served daily.
A1: Haven't taken the plunge yet. Looking forward to doing so soon. Have only heard good things.
A1: EdCamps have allowed me to talk with teachers that are out of my content area that I wouldn't have met at a regular conference
A1: need to get it together and attend one soon! Love learning and sharing with awesome educators so I need to make it happen!
take a road trip! Worth the time, and the drive!
A1: Personalizing PD=great for Ts
A1b - I love the encouragement to get up and go when necessary...
A1: Gives voice to all participants - everyone has experiences and expertise to share and can positively impact others
A1:great to see that no one has ALL the answers, but we are all trying!Helpful way to collaborate, problem solve & express new ideas
You would definitely love it!
Hi Tim!! Hey - if you don't follow Tim & read his blogs, start TODAY!!!!
Nothing should, I know, but would love to have a friend to join me.
A1-Also love "Law of Two Feet" if you're neither contributing to or gaining something from a session you're encouraged to move on
A1 was a revelation that PD can be done in my terms bc I have ownership. It is my responsibility to evolve.
thank Jodie. Again you are too kind!
A1: It is about perspective and lens. We have to go bigger than our four walls. Be global in our learning.
what's the most recent/favorite thing you've brought back?
A1: I was thinking about going Saturday?
A1 Oh my! 😳 I haven't attended an EdCamp but am motivated to do so based upon all of the positive feedback I'm reading tonight!
EdCamp empowers teachers to be PD leaders
Adam, 5/6 social studies, Brooklyn, OH! are awesome!!! Especially driving 3 hours to get to one in Columbus!
And a great way to make connections w/edustars!
It will definitely change your life in how you see conferences and learning!
YES! Hey there, my friend. Glad to have you drop in!
A1 Edcamps are top notch PD bc passionate educators are willing to share and collaborate
***Q2 is coming up in one minute! ***
this Saturday is a great opportunity!
You will not regret your decision.
A1: I was so empowered when I threw an idea on the board and led a session that others found valuable
I'm gonna try my best, gotta be Mom first!
I was thinking of going as well. Is it mostly for teachers or anyone in education?
Sat., I'll attend #17 (or so) Still learning at every one!
BRB . . . having a laptop issue that requires a reboot.
A1:love seeing Ts present to a room they thought would be empty, but is instead filled w/interested colleagues
I think it's for all educators.
Is it too late to sign up? Where do you sign up?
I was spoiled in my first edcamp: In session #1, I was sharing with and
Anyone have links they'd like to share to help me try out EdCamps for PD?
A1: give Ts a chance to meet with other Ts who share a similar passion for an inovative idea or best practice strategy
It's fun when your room actually starts filling up!
My Favorite part - allows you to get the biggest "bang for your buck (even though they're free)!" https://t.co/zlHxqhS8ou
A1b - I love the encouragement to get up and go when necessary...
anyone and everyone! You should definitely do it!
A2. At conference, we had action plans that we followed up on. Allowed us to transfer ideas into actions
Yes!!! It's how we grow as educators! Collaboration & sharing! https://t.co/m5AsTiFmYW
A1 Edcamps are top notch PD bc passionate educators are willing to share and collaborate
Set more time aside for people to run around Gahanna playing Pokemon Go :-)
A1: I've been to several they make me better since I'm learning & sharing with people in the field, not just theory!
Anyone in education. They even let college Ss in. :-D
A2 I'd love to have more collab notes & collab discussions, rather than presenter led content.
It was different, but in a great way. You'll love it!
A2: All the freedom can backfire a bit, like when a session is offered but then the facilitator doesn't show up.
A1:met at , followed her on twitter and still learn new ideas from her tweets. Love all the new connections
A3: Some Edcamps use google docs for notes from sessions. Seems that should be a common practice. Great way to bring back info.
If possible, perhaps some time set aside for people who teach the same subjects to collaborate/discuss pertinent issues
even if it was to see and !!
absolutely! So rewarding!
I agree. It is hard to travel on a Saturday when it is the one day I get to spend time with my family
A1: Been to a few. Love to learn from others and network!
A2: Provide side spaces for groups to expand upon an idea and develop a solution - hear something, break off and think through it
and I tried that at EdCampILEcbus You could click on google doc for session and notes were there
We've been experimenting w/ the format at a few state-wide events -rather than a pre-planned agenda encourage participants to lead
Maybe you can enlighten me about one coming to the Toledo area, soon!
A2 It would be even better if we had to bring someone to an EdCamp who has never attended before. https://t.co/jlGoaN9mte
I agree-would not be hard to have google docs linked to the sign up sheet.
I like that idea. Without practical application and transfer...it's all rhetoric
A2: Format is so good hard to say. Maybe a little more explanation of some of the proposed sessions at beginning to help choose.
A2) I would have some type of keynote to kick things off and get supercharged.
A2 You can adapt the format to fit your venue and times. Isn't one of the rules that there is no rule?
A1: By helping me think ahead to what type of teacher/administrator I want to be.
I hope so! are fun to watch!
Cool-I saw this at an Edcamp in Cedarville. Had template of attendants, twitter handles, etc.
Epic meet-ups make it worthwhile!
A2: I've attended only one. I think maybe just attendees becoming more comfortable and confident to be part of the discussion.
A2: more availability to share Twitter accounts and perhaps more meet and greet! We know Twitter names, but not faces!
I like the idea of focusing on one theme like literacy or assessment
sounds like the first rule of fight club...
A2: Some Edcamps use google docs for notes from sessions. Seems that should be a common practice. Great way to bring back info.
A2: Set aside plenty of time for networking, collaboration, conversations.
I like the idea of bringing a new attendee- that's me!
I don't see anything on the EdCamp site - you could always host your own!
you best hit up THIS Saturday!
A2-Make sure EdCamp allows for a lot of time to build the board and network before sessions-that's my fave!
I worked with and for one on PBL
What if we used the format locally within districts?
A2: How about live blogging each breakout for folks who can't make it and/or breakouts that others don't attend?
That's where I first met Jacki!!!
for sure. This allows for continuing the learning and collaboration after the event.
My tweeps in have talked about hosting soon! Check back for details!
Only when the topic is homework or summer math packets..... https://t.co/yzCrYbKHlR
sounds like the first rule of fight club...
Is that the correct site? Says Edward C. Camp???
we just did that recently with leading things off. It was PERFECT!
either could work. I like the idea of hosting a predetermined topic and broadcasting as such
And to continue the learning afterwards.
Q3 is coming up in one minute!
Can be done for sure! We had mini-edcamp during staff mtg. I organized sessions beforehand through survey
people thought I was crazy to drive to Cbus but meeting you all there, plus others, was great!
Great to see you again Sierra
Thanks for being here again Greg
Thanks for jumping in again from the City of Angels
Great idea! We had kick off - huge success. Thanks for being here Jay https://t.co/CnEwVLh7T6
A2) I would have some type of keynote to kick things off and get supercharged.
Thanks for being here Jason
A1: will be a treat b/c it's at Clark Hall & lunch is the best time to connect
Thanks for being here Shaun
Thanks for joining Melissa
Thanks for being here again Jay. We're honored
Thanks for joining Ms Sankey
Thanks for being here Jake
Great to see you again Noel
Thanks for being here AJ. Ever heard the song "AJ is cool" ?
A2: every EdCamp must have a social component at the end: TweetUp, etc at a local establishment & have defined take-aways
Hey, thanks for joining us Talesha!
ohhh I would come up there
Would love to see ur S's there. We often have groups of pre-service T's! https://t.co/PG4GjC2DZj
A2: I've never attended an EdCamp but they seem to be an excellent resource. I think spreading the word more. Who's… https://t.co/5ELJh5eqCM
I second that. I am still implementing her words every day.
It definitely matters to connect like that for lasting friendships!
It's like a canned food item 🙂
Anybody see blow up the feed? Bring it!
Breakout type sessions sound awesome. That's always the best part of going to coaching clinics
TY, great seeing you too!
A3: Love the idea of doing this--with local/building, gather session ideas days before, so schedule gets built in advance?
A3: Ask Ts "What do you want to learn about?" and plan accordingly.
A3: We allow for personalized learning by having break-out sessions and allowing the staff to select their learning path.
A3: since very few (3) Ts at my school have been to one, it would be tough but I'd love to challenge my Ts to try it!
I have heard of some districts using an edcamp model as PD. Its a great idea
A3-I did an EdCamp w/ my staff at our retreat a few yrs ago-they built the board and went for it It was energizing
The used format at recent fall coaches' meeting for breakouts, got awesome response from participants
A3: We survey our Ts to find ideas for our opening day district inservice, then find Ts to lead as many sessions as possible.
we have done this to some degree in our district. Offer a range of sessions and let people attend what 'speaks' to them
PD Edcamp style is the best! https://t.co/HoS6yKtwZF
A3: We allow for personalized learning by having break-out sessions and allowing the staff to select their learning path.
uses a format for admin mtgs - 4 short presentations on relevant topics, then breakout & connect w/ presenters.
It can be done. Give a brief explanation-let them build the board and run with it
A3. I tried this year and allowed staff to develop some policies through EdCamp style. I think staff enjoyed it
if you could choose 1 topic for an EdCamp, what would it be/why?
Thanks for the encouraging tweet!
A3 I like our Ignite topics at the admin meeting. People share topic then everyone selects the one to discuss in more detail.
A3: Allowing staff to showcase what they are most proud of. Know your people's skills.
A3 Allow me to flip this: I strive to make my teaching like daily EdCamp as I fill my room w/ willingness, wisdom, wonder & worth.
A3: Love the model of allowing teachers to share their passions and letting students attend their sessions of choice.
A3 Want to try modified-where sessions are proposed a little ahead of time, but voice & choice r honored. Edcamp new to district.
A3: Having choice so you can pick your path to your Personalized learning.
A3: Great way to share some info, peak some interest, and guide meaningful conversation with experts in your own district!
A3:I facilitated a successful PD session style Mon-broke the time into 3 chunks-Ts chose topics to discuss during the time
A3: Modified edcamp. Did 3-30 min. sessions district directed then edcamp for the rest of the time. Surveyed Ts for topics.
I like doing IGNITE too. Fun to hear a brief description and then choose where to spend your time https://t.co/QcoQDRyqsg
A3 I like our Ignite topics at the admin meeting. People share topic then everyone selects the one to discuss in more detail.
A3: It also works to do EdCamp style working lunches during PD time. I have done this at a number of events
A3: I see it working as long as we do what we do for student learners--Scaffold and model as needed.
This WAS a hard sell for planners who had never participated in one, but some veteran coaches called it the best fall meeting ever
for some reason none of my tweets were loading. Felt like for a second
uses a google doc for teachers to create sessions they want to lead.staff then uses doc to choose sessions to attend
We need to infuse this idea into more facets of our BLT time!
A3: Would love this! Ts would be more engaged in learning and would participate more. Gives leadership opps
A3:started using the format w/staff. Think it has ability to be great! Ts need to get out of shell to make it work
Used the Edcamp model for district PD. Had 6-10 sessions every hr Many repeated during the day. Build your own schedule Powerful
A3: I love seeing buildings and even districts make the leap of faith and try this with thier colleagues. Great modeling.
A3 We have Mustang University, a series of classes taught by staff. Choose what you want to learn. https://t.co/K0tll5K3H4
We did this too. It works well.
We did an EdCamp with our kindergarten students last year-it was magical. https://t.co/6R3uq6uHum
Brace yourself for the cuteness
boom! That would be awesome!
A3 I've been involved in something similar...site based, grade level teams discuss and teach one another about techniques, right?
Haven't seen the legendary in here for a bit. He must be doing 2 workouts a day to keep in shape for softball
so sorry to jump out early! Loved the topic & conversation tonight! Stop by Sunday at 8pm to talk about connections!
A3: If we're not familiar with the model, would someone mind sharing? That'll be awesome 👍
A3: it would really amp up Ts to take ownership of learning which would make said learning more meaningful.
A3 We are going to try to do PD Edcamp style in place of one or more of our faculty mtgs, but will gather topics prior to mtg
My 3rd, 4th and 5th grade Ts had Ss do an EdCamp a few times. Ss planned sessions and presented. It was amazing
I would love to learn more about this concept. As we move forward I would like to take this approach
A3 My good friend organized edcamp for her entire regional district.
Ugh.... twitter isn't working for me tonight 😣
Sure - let me know how I can help.
A3: would love to do this think it would be more meaningful and engaging! Help!!!???
It's almost time to tweet your own questions!!!!!!
Almost time to go style. ***Q4 is coming up in one minute! ***
definitely worth it! has helped us implement it. Huge cultural game changer.
****Going EdCamp Style in 1 min****
Essential for collaboration and sharing of ideas, especially since you can only be in one place. https://t.co/g4lQ8QFecJ
Essential for collaboration and sharing of ideas, especially since you can only be in one place. chat https://t.co/czNlH9PSUu
This is where we need YOU! Toss a question out there. About anything. You are taking ownership of ! https://t.co/UZfjX8hHB0
I can totally see the benefit. I wonder about the management and process to support Ts
A3) we have developed and implemented a series of PD days 2 b reflective of the model, but also have some items scheduled.
Nope-could do whatever they wanted! One Ss really drove race cards and kids asked for his autograph after his session
Survey very helpful https://t.co/vUPcliALEw
A3: Modified edcamp. Did 3-30 min. sessions district directed then edcamp for the rest of the time. Surveyed Ts for topics.
Just took the plunge and registered for my first Edcamp. Thanks and
This is AWESOME!! Great idea and what smart cookies!
some of our admin wondered the same. Ts ate it up!
Kristin, 5th grade, California just jumping in I have enjoyed reading the stream- such powerful strategies!!
Q4 What's your best Ss peer revision strategies?
How are you sustaining the momentum created in ?
ZPQ: What would/could an EdCamp look like for Ss?!
It's great how Google docs can be used to simplify collaboration and personalized PD https://t.co/uY82h2UkF1
uses a google doc for teachers to create sessions they want to lead.staff then uses doc to choose sessions to attend
QJ: How are you breaking free of the traditional model of school? Are your bells still ringing and do you still have class periods
When answering and EdCamp Q you may want to "quote retweet" and then answer don't forget to add
Q: Anyone done an EdCamp style system in their classroom? Pros/cons?!
We're getting ready to launch JW YOUniversity in Nov. You and I should chat! https://t.co/zjR3nbvZNa
QJ: How are you breaking free of the traditional model of school? Are your bells still ringing and do you still have class periods
going back and revisiting the same ideas...revising the methods but still reminding Ss of the vision!
ZPA: Genius Hour? Socratic Seminar? Talent show?
A4 Question: Do Ts sit together in one room and share? What exactly is the process? 😊
Q: has anyone tried via GHO or Skype w/ another class
yes!!! That's what I'm talking about! Several sessions on the detailed aspects. Tease it out. Grow!
Great questions out there tonight.
Q4: What are some instructional approaches to get engage Ss in their learning by encouraging Ss to talk more and Ts to talk less?
Yes it can be done. I think one of my Ts wrote a blog about it... did you blog about this? https://t.co/B1GO0MbjMH
Q: Anyone done an EdCamp style system in their classroom? Pros/cons?!
There are plenty of people in Hilliard you could talk to about it for Ss.
we've moved away from bells...we have time schedules for switches but it's teacher controlled! Allows for flexibility!
Duct tape...just kidding https://t.co/dq5cJyBc1C
Q4: What are some instructional approaches to get engage Ss in their learning by encouraging Ss to talk more and Ts to talk less?
Can't wait to meet you all and this Saturday!
Q4: What is a good way to gather seats for a flexible seating classroom (without spending a ton of money)?
HA! Unique, but effective!?
is now trending in USA, ranking 47
-Create a GoogleDoc Big Board
-Volunteers sign up to lead sessions on the GoogleDoc
-Ready, Set, Go!
Started w/ common language. The . Also, we designated day each quarter to revisit. Coming up in 2 weeks.
I went after a hot topic with 1 S. She then took over leading convo then I gave assignment planning.
How about trying donors choose? https://t.co/bRO2WLwfzx
Q4: What is a good way to gather seats for a flexible seating classroom (without spending a ton of money)?
Q: How do you get Ts to understand/accept mental illness/anxiety in Ss and not see it as "they need to deal with it"
And how to you get buy in from admins? I'm thinking asking parents? Or college grads w/old dorm stuff?
We used and asked questions to survey Ss and then had Ss in each class discuss.
Love strategies that get kids talking in pairs and then reporting out. Face2Face & Back2Back a good one.
I found bed risers for standing table for $5. and then ikea stools for $5 each.
sounds like a collaboration needs to happen. Let's go!!!!
Time to chat tomorrow? It's going to be EPIC
has a great post how to use Google to do that
Looking for input on this. How to evolve a "Many Paths" of Learning manifesto? https://t.co/LRO8vVKiOy https://t.co/9B1B6hgbR7
QJ: How are you breaking free of the traditional model of school? Are your bells still ringing and do you still have class periods

Q4: What are some instructional approaches to get engage Ss in their learning by encouraging Ss to talk more and Ts to talk less?
A: Reach out to your School Psychs. They may be able to lead PD on topic. One of ours did a session this Aug.
Popping in late - Angie () tweeting from my new program for teachers!
I'm back. Shut down & restarted! Back in the world of geniuses!
Q: will anyone want to roll to Coach's in Gahanna for a TweetUp after ?
allow teachers to design own schedule to meet students needs & adjust schedule to meet lesson demands
if you can find a model, use it. A T that has it down. Invite others in. Possible? Lofty, I know.
Also, when Ss ask I reply with well that S wrote something different. Wonder why? Peaks their interest. https://t.co/oTyofXC2N5
Q4: What are some instructional approaches to get engage Ss in their learning by encouraging Ss to talk more and Ts to talk less?
occasionally, but we tend to just go with the flow...or we just go open their door and tell them to move on!
THIS!!! 🙌 https://t.co/ta1pN2vz7i
Q: How do you get Ts to understand/accept mental illness/anxiety in Ss and not see it as "they need to deal with it"
Btw, presenting in Washington Courthouse. DM me if interested in a meetup 10/20.
Q: Who has inspired you to grow/challenged you most this school year? (Shout outs encouraged!)
We used as a story prompt. Ss wrote story that Sphero helped act out
