#ALedchat is a weekly chat on Twitter about education topics. It is held each Monday from 9-10pmCST. While the discussion on #ALedchat continues on Twitter well beyond our weekly one-hour chat session, this platform affords us the opportunity to extend, expand and share the conversation with an even greater audience. Educators from across the state of Alabama, and the world, can come here to find encouragement, support, resources, professional growth opportunities and advice, while providing the same to their colleagues.

A1: We currently have instructional coaches. They assist with providing Tier III support for struggling learners, co teaching and co planning with Ts that need support or desire a collaborative partner to share ideas with. #aledchat
Q2: Jim Knight presented in Dallas, TX at the Learning Forward Conference. He stated that the first partnership principle is equality meaning that everyone counts the same. In your school how do you practice equality in relation to coaching? #ALedchat
A2: In instructional partnerships, I try to treat everyone as equals. We are all important, and we all have good ideas. It is not about titles. #aledchat
I am part of the Google #DLPcoaching project. I just help Ts find and work on their challenges. (And as a result, I find and work on mine. 🙃) #ALedchat
The goal is for ALL to work with the coach. She's available if a teacher proactively approaches her, but we also purposeful coaching opportunities as we see needs through observations, goal setting, and conversations with teachers. Novice to expert teachers involved. #aledchat
The coaches may have personal/professional goals that have been set by the principal or the district instructional leaders @lynnehice@JackieAFlowers but the success of the teachers and the success of the students is the success of the coach. #ALedchat#TheyMakeUsAllBetter

A2. Equality is a principle for any great team. Everyone matters equally. Everyone plays a part in the organization’s success! In coaching staff, that idea is important. Let them know they have extreme value and find ways to tap their strengths and improve weaknesses. #ALedchat

A2: At Grove City the professors do a great job at incorporating students into so many opportunities so early on. I'm not sure if that relates to coaching. #ALedchat
A2: We prioritize based on need (as seen by the coach or administrator) or desire from the teacher. We're not equal but I believe we're getting it right in fairness. Equality in coaching is an area I am working on. #aledchat

A2: At Grove City they make an emphasis to provide opportunities for all pre-service teachers in a way that allows them to voice their thoughts and get active in the teaching field even from freshman year #ALedchat
A1: Yes, I am one (on the technological side). I support Ts & Ss the implementation of technology & best practices into their lessons. The “traditional” coaches assist with Tier II & III instruction & support Ts who need extra instructional support. #aledchat
Q3: The second and third partnership principles are choice and voice. How do you provide teachers choice and voice in your school? How does this impact instructional coaching? #ALedchat
A3: We have implemented Instructional Leadership Teams. This is a group that helps us hear the voices of all teachers and staff in the building. They help us decide what PD we plan and define the vision of our school. Lots of choice and voice. #aledchat
A2: My goal is to meet the needs of all I serve. I check in, pop up, email, text... communication is key. Without it, I can’t serve. I serve 6 schools so if I don’t strategically serve equally & volunteer my services to all of them... I’m failing. #aledchat

A3: Choice and Voice is vital in the coaching relationship. There's no silver bullet for the teaching and learning process; Ts have to be vocal and willing to listen to the coach. They each should learn from each other. #aledchat
A3: Giving us the chance to create a Twitter where we can put our thoughts out and contact educators from all over the world allows us to use our voice to impact the educational community #ALedchat
A3. To be choice comes to play when seeking instructional coaching. Ts must choose to get better, they must choose to get help. On the flip side, admin/coaches must choose to help when it’s asked for or sought after! We owe it to our students! #aledchat
Jennifer District Principal of Learning, Ontario, Canada #ALedchat A1 We do have Instructional Leaders in our system. Their work is focused on specific school/system improvement goals. Right now, mathematics instruction/achievement.
A3: @SFecich has introduced us to so many amazing tools that allow us to create projects for teachers we connect with through a coop. I have been able to introduce several new tools to my coop which has been such a cool opportunity.#ALedchat
Q3: If you have voice and choice you have ownership and accountability! I love for teachers to desire (and name) areas of growth whether they are new to the profession or seasoned veterans. We all have room to improve! #aledchat

A3: Again, it’s all about communication. Just like student voice & choice are important (#shoutout to @Flipgrid), T voice & choice are important. I ask Ts what they need assistance with and offer suggestions, they then choose what they would like to implement. #aledchat

Q4: Jim Knight’s fourth Partnership Principle is dialogue. True dialogue occurs when all parties matter. How do you encourage dialogue in a coaching model in your school? #ALedchat

Q3: The second and third partnership principles are choice and voice. How do you provide teachers choice and voice in your school? How does this impact instructional coaching? #ALedchat
A3. Voice is addressed in meaningful conversations with staff. Don’t always rely on a Google form... we have to have real conversations and look people in their eyes and be real. Listen to them and be as transparent with them as you can! #aledchat
A group from @TCBOE visited Google HQ in Cali to be trained by Google’s Dynamic Learning Project leaders to bring that knowledge back to our schools where we can meet the needs of our Ts and our schools. #ALedchat

A4: Few things are more important than clear communication. We encourage relationships first, followed by listening and understanding, and coaching a person toward being the best they can be. That dialogue beings with true belief in their potential and goals. #aledchat

A4: It's so important for both sides to be heard in communication. As a college student it's always important to stay in communication with my professors so I can learn to the best of my ability and become ready to teach in the "real world" #ALedchat
DLP is a coaching cycle process where coaches help teachers identify, investigate, address, and reflect on challenges in teaching and professional practices. Pretty cool. #ALedchat

A4: As students we are in communication with our professors constantly and they are amazing at providing wisdom and knowledge. They are preparing me to be that same person for my future Ss.#ALedchat
A3) curious to see the answers for this, part of what I speak to when I visit districts across the state is providing feedback on both instructional programs, resources and skills such as use of the 4 C’s and #21stcenturylearning#ALedchat
I also make it a point to listen to understand. I am empathetic to their frustrations. We all need someone to listen & if I am the person they trust, I find that complementary. Giving Ts time to release is just as important. Gains trust. #aledchat

A4. Dialogue is a must!!!! We have to be willing to put ourselves out there and be real with people. Tell them when they’re doing a great job. Let them know when there is room for improvement. Do it all with RESPECT at the center! #ALedchat
Q4: Jim Knight’s fourth Partnership Principle is dialogue. True dialogue occurs when all parties matter. How do you encourage dialogue in a coaching model in your school? #ALedchat
The question almost seems to refer to equality as relating to position or rank... My interpretation of @jimknight99’s Principle of Equality is more about the coach/coachee’s experience. Both should benefit. #ALedchat A2

Q4: Jim Knight’s fourth Partnership Principle is dialogue. True dialogue occurs when all parties matter. How do you encourage dialogue in a coaching model in your school? #ALedchat
Q5: The fifth Partnership Principle is reflection. This occurs when you are engaged in a true thinking partnership. How do you apply this principle in your buildings and districts? #ALedchat
A4: Sincerity will take you a long way with people. Be genuine in conversation. Informal, impromptu communication will have you hitting so many topics, planning, creating, and building. Nothing beats face-to-face communication. #aledchat
Sadly lots of coaching goes on at the lunchroom table. Teachers must support each other and try to avoid negative language. Use the time we have together to model and mentor. #aledchat
A4. Just like with Ss, Ts have to be given an opportunity to verbalize their knowledge and their concerns. True collaboration occurs when there is fluid dialogue between the T and the Coach. Coaches must encourage dialogue in order to assess learning and growth. #ALedchat
A5: One way I saw this take place in this past semester was in @DrJMChapman Foundations of Teaching class where each if us lead a book talk discussing the issues within each book. This built are ability to have in depth conversation with one another #ALedchat
A5. I always loved reflection opportunities after trainings with our old IP. It was during this time that you left inspired and empowered knowing you weren’t alone! #ALedchat
I am definitely a novice, but it is worth putting it out there to learn from one another. Thank you for inspiring us to be better @jimknight99#aledchat
A3 #ALedchat Voice = nothing about me without me. Choice = allowing opportunity for new learning/ideas to be applied in a way that aligns with own preferences/style. #respectful
A5: Could you explain what this means? I'm still learning these terms and I'm so glad I'm able to be part of this chat to learn more about this ideas. Excited to learn more! #ALedchat
A5: Growth comes from reflecting on what went well and what we need to do to improve. Having dialogue after the coaching cycle allows both to reflect on the lesson/activity and provide strengths and areas for growth. Very important. #ALedchat
Q6: The sixth Partnership Principle, according to Jim Knight is Praxis. This is when you are engaged in real life activities. How do you ensure that you are spending time on real world and real life activities when you are in a coaching relationship? #ALedchat
A6: In our building, we try to focus on what is needed at that time. We focus on what teachers need in the here and now. We allow teachers to take the information and apply it in ways that are useful to them. #autonomy#aledchat
A5: The @tcs_tech is always reflecting with one another and our fierce leader. We reflect on the year one-to-one with Momma Boss (@DrHancockE) before winter break to discuss our self-assessments and those from the Ts we serve. #aledchat
A6: I think flexibility is important here too. Teachers need to be able to decide what works in their individual classrooms. One size does not fit all. #ALedchat
A6: My connection to my virtual co-op leader @nankr1120 allows me put my lessons into authentic learning environments so I can apply how they go to future plans, I've also observed in a few classrooms even in my freshman year and I've learned so much #ALedchat
A6: My professors, specifically @DrJMChapman, have had many years of experience in the classroom and therefore are able to share very applicable concepts to their teaching. I have learned so much through the stories that have been told. #ALedchat
A6. I think this is accomplished as we seek to recreate coaches in every person we coach. It’s kind of like the teach a man to fish saying... The end goal of coaching sessions should not only be improvement but replication! #ALedchat
Q6: The sixth Partnership Principle, according to Jim Knight is Praxis. This is when you are engaged in real life activities. How do you ensure that you are spending time on real world and real life activities when you are in a coaching relationship? #ALedchat
A6: I make it a priority to focus on learning targets then what way I can assist the T with planning an engaging lesson that will meet the target. I always make it a point to add student dialogue & creativity. #aledchat
A5: Reflection is crucial in the coaching cycle. Is serves as a means by which to measure understanding of new learning. It's also a way to see how close or far away from your goals you are. Reflection forces you to be "real" about your strengths and weaknesses. #ALEDchat
A6: My professors, specifically @DrJMChapman, have had many years of experience in the classroom and therefore are able to share very applicable concepts to their teaching. I have learned so much through the stories that have been told. #ALedchat
Q7: The seventh Partnership Principle is reciprocity. This is when you get back as much as you give. Give an example of when you have been in this kind of partnership. #ALedchat
A6: I make it a priority to focus on learning targets then what way I can assist the T with planning an engaging lesson that will meet the target. I always make it a point to add student dialogue & creativity. #aledchat
A7: I feel like the other APs in our district have reciprocity. We are always helping each other out. The most meaningful time in our meetings is when we share our successes and failures. I definitely think I get more from them than I can ever give back. #aledchat

A6. Observations are a great way to ensure that coaching is spent on relevant, real-life needs. Ts need professional learning to be real so that they can improve the teaching and learning environment in their classrooms. By observing, coaches can plan relevant PD. #ALEDchat
A7: As mentioned before I've had the wonderful opportunity to be paired with @nankr1120 in a virtual co-op, we both feed off each other and grow while teaching and learning about tech tools and all sorts of other aspects of the classroom #ALedchat
A7. I have recently been working on course descriptions and other aspects of course offerings. Last week I had an AHA moment when I could tell a teacher felt I was truly putting thought into something she was so passionate about. I think we both left the room beaming. #ALedchat

FA: Moving forward I'm going to take all these new terms I've learned tonight and look for ways to put them into my work here at school and in future classrooms! #ALedchat
AF. I’m looking forward to carrying some of these coaching principles into the second semester in coaching sessions with our teacher! @2lt8 thanks for the great chat! #ALedchat

A7: Seeing a classroom transform from teacher-centered to student-centered is the best example of reciprocity I can think of. Nothing beats that feeling. Similarly, seeing a T feel empowered enough to share her learning with other T. Best feeling ever. #ALEDchat
FA:I will definitely go forward and share all I learned about communication and coaching to my fellow pre service teacher as well as hear from my professors and see if they have any experience with this.#ALedchat
