A3: Listening, listening, ... listening. Working this one still.
A2: They kept me in the loop and let me listen in to their professional talk and treated me like an equal.
I'm currently learning about the Vanguard program and FCPS is beginning a cohort thanks to

A3: being honest, interested, & supportive
Agreed! If you make them feel only like they are "work" to you, that's all it will ever be. https://t.co/qfIXNXDcCl
A3: Talk to them outside of your coaching sessions
Q3: I tell teachers that I am about making their lives easier. I share resources that will help lift requirements/mandates.
A3: find a common ground is a start. Whether that is a philosophy, pov, or sports team, finding commonality is vital.
Wheww girl, this is so hard and so worth the effort!
Terrific resource for learning how to build relationshipshttp://mentormodules.com/modules/building-trust/?course_id=26
- Yes! When they realize you're there to help make less work, they welcome you more readily!
A3: Build relationships by asking for help. Showing that you need support too. Being approachable and reachable! Positivity!
A3: building trust through conversations also helps with building relationships.
Listening is key! Actually hearing what would be meaningful to them and helping on that path.
- Completely! I always look for the fans first! Hehehe.
Another Major Key to a Successful Coaching/Mentoring Year is becoming a thought partner with the teacher toward his/her goals
A3: FEEDBACK is so crucial. Relationships are build on trust that feedback will be given, and be honest, and not leave you sad
A1: has always pushed me to be a better educator and strive for success. She pushed me to get my best out of me.
Stepping back, asking questions and encourage them to make decisions about the work.
booooo! I think you're doing this whole "building relationships" thing wrong w/ that approach. LOL.
A3: Getting out of your own way. Being willing to hear constructive criticism.
A2: She provided consistent feedback that praised what I was doing well, but also helped me see the areas I needed to improve
Q4: How do you help teachers that you are coaching/mentoring plan with the end in mind? What strategies do you use?
Check out the organizations who want you to VOTE NO on amendment 1 in GA! Read about it 4 yourself! … https://t.co/19coZdV2AT
a4: I use the collaborative assessment log! Very helpful! Start with what are their goals for themselves
A4: I start small and make the first goal something THEY want to achieve, not something I want them to achieve!
A4: I like to start coaching sessions with "What would it look like to leave after school thinking: I killed it, today!"
A4: small steps. Understand the big goal and talk about it regularly. https://t.co/QHyQIruojQ
Q4: How do you help teachers that you are coaching/mentoring plan with the end in mind? What strategies do you use?
A4: I spend time on growing them professionally inside and outside of the classroom.
A4: Talk about their vision for the learning outcome. If you can clearly articulate, you can plan.
Always make it about them. Not me! https://t.co/abp1oQ4eaq
A4: I start small and make the first goal something THEY want to achieve, not something I want them to achieve!
A4: We create small "tomorrow you do can do this" steps. We need immediate gratification before we begin with the struggle.
A2: could see my passion for education and helped foster it. She never stopped supporting me then or now.
A4: Determine the end result, work together to figure out how to accomplish the goal. Planning, collaborating, revise
Q3: Coaching a T in the content area that I taught. Bringing strong content knowledge and practices to my coaching role
A4: Talk about their goals and that is the end that must be kept in mind. What can help make that happen
Keep the resources coming, they will be apart of the chat transcript.
A4: I like to hear their interpretations of transformative learning and their interests and curiosities
A4 Understanding TRUE LEARNING and the power it holds helps set targets for growth! Great resources: https://t.co/MaOCb3CleE
A4: I ask them to give me two things that are really bothering them. Then, I ask for one thing they would like to accomplish.
Q5: How do you coach or mentor teachers that are resisting change?
A3: Building relationships = key to success. I try to have consistency when building relationships. Consistency builds trust.
A5: I try to show them that I respect where they're coming from. Change scares many, and I try to let them know it's ok.
A5: find something that helps them, then build from there. https://t.co/f8nRqRXoty
Q5: How do you coach or mentor teachers that are resisting change?
A5: Work on building the relationship first! They may be more willing if they feel they are more than an assignment to you
I hit them..........with a 'low hanging fruit'! "Want some help with small groups today? I'll lead one!"
A5: First, I build a "how-to" handout for whatever we are learning with screenshots. It walks them through the tech tool.
- Yep! You find what they "hate" about the classroom and suggest a way to make that part of their life easier.
A5: I would love help in this area. I am still working on this. Starting by trying to build relationships & help in small ways.
A5: 2nd, I give them samples of student work where I have used it. This gives them a chance to "see" it in action.
A5: I make sure I am consistent with my help.
a5: “What often looks like a people problem is a situational one & what looks like laziness is often people being unclear"
A5: start with "their why." If you can have them get in touch with why the change matters it can inspire people to change
A5: 3rd, I demonstrate with their class if necessary on any topic they are teaching at the moment.
A5: I don't. It's that philosophy of focusing on the runners & joggers. Do this, and the others come to you
A5: I follow up, I follow up, I follow up, I follow up...
A5: Offer up chances to model in their rooms and plan with the grade level and have them shadow you.
A5: Stephanee's Inner Monologue: ***NEVER, in any situation, roll your eyes***
A3: I make sure they can feel that I'm working with them to achieve their goals not evaluating them arbitrarily.
Then, when it works they trust you later on! https://t.co/08xJND4Ht2
- Yep! You find what they "hate" about the classroom and suggest a way to make that part of their life easier.
- Haha, yes! I used to just try and force my way in to model. I figured that would get them hooked. :)
Im trine work on my facial expressions https://t.co/u1QgMjVUd3
A5: Stephanee's Inner Monologue: ***NEVER, in any situation, roll your eyes***
A4: I try to start small. Develop one idea . Starting small helps to grow bigger and better things.
A5: Give them their space. Peer pressure I've noticed works. Their colleagues can help get them to come around
- - I got detention for rolling my eyes at my 7th grade science teacher.
You read my inner monologue!!!! https://t.co/sRh0mX8oOx
A5: Stephanee's Inner Monologue: ***NEVER, in any situation, roll your eyes***
Oh I like this one a lot. There isn't a "Oh I like this one a lot" button here. https://t.co/FNIeiX81TE
A5: I follow up, I follow up, I follow up, I follow up...
A5: let them know that it's okay to baby step your way forward.
A5: I'm lucky this year that I have time to go in and model more and help get things rolling when Ts aren't ready to jump in.
A4: Understand they need to enjoy the journey. Celebrate small victories & make any baby steps. Movement is better than nothing
A3: Compliment good teaching. Be a positive support for Ts. Continue to have patience. Tech makes sense to me but not to all Ts
A5: I have the teacher become the leader & offer leadership opportunities. Resistance will decrease if a teacher feels valued.
Acknowledge when Tech IS NOT THE ANSWER!
Q6: How do you continue to build capacity in yourself as you build capacity in others?
- I love that strategy because they think that's all you're ever going to suggest!
I know..... "don't judge me..." :)
A6: It stretches me each time I get asked a question. Problem solving keeps you on your toes.
- Don't take my card away!!! We have to admit and understand that tech for tech's sake is always a mis… https://t.co/iC95j3wFRW

A6: it makes me more reflective on my practices and challenges me to lead by example
Dewey said that true knowledge isn't gained by learning, it's gained by reflecting on learning. RE-FLECT
