#NVedchat is dedicated to increasing communication and collaboration of education related topics in the State of Nevada. Originally, created by Mr. Snehal Bhakta.
a1) ISTE - International Society of Technology in Education - Conference end of June #nvedchat@iste Submissions are open right now til Sept 27.

#nvedchat
ISTE is a great conference, but it takes at least one to get the scope. I attended my second ISTE this summer, and got a lot more out of it. Planned better. Spent more time getting to know people. :)
My only major national conference was 2002 NCTM in Vegas. I'm a huge fan of the Summer of E-Learning conferences in Indiana - @sselearn and @evillagenwi. #nvedchat
A1 @CUENV conference coming up in two weeks! Great get together with teachers at all grade levels talking about #technology in #education so it challenges me to think differently #NVEdChat
A1 #ISTE is my favorite. There are so many educators from around the world and you gain so many great connections! My districts conference #CFISDDLC is amazing I always love presenting. Conferences are my jam. #nvedchat
a2) not all of the information is new, but I usually learn a new strategy or expand one what I already know/do. That's when I know it's been a good session #nvedchat
A2, the info at NASA SEEC was all new. I think that's why I liked it so much. After my #21stcenturymasters not a lot of edtech was new anymore. This provided an avenue to use that tech with #STEM in the classroom #nvedchat
A2: #nvedchat
At traditional conferences, I've gotten better about creating a balance between attending sessions and just talking with people.
I'm not afraid to leave a session that isn't what I expected, but I always feel that I should apologize.
A2.1: #nvedchat
I prefer sessions that build on knowledge. It's pretty rate that I choose a session that I'm not connected to. I like to look for new nuggets of knowledge.
R2: I kind of look for a mix, stuff I'm doing that needs a tune-up along with brand new things Ican add in or trade out/up. Plus, you know, hang with friends. #NVEdChat
A2: I always try to choose seasions that explore something new. Excited for my upcoming trip to San Jose—I hear there’s a few tech companies up there?!?!? #NVedchat
A2 yes I do sometimes, I think that’s part of being a connected educator, we read, participate in twitter chats we are often caught up on ideas, but I still like to see how other teachers present it, always something to learn #NVEdChat
A3-One is time...sometimes I would love to share, but to put it into a formal presentation submittal takes awhile sometimes more time than the actually presentation...right? #NVedchat
a3) I've been stepping out of my comfort zone and presenting more. In the past it the fear that I didn't have anything new to share with ts. The nerves still get to me, but I'm better. #nvedchat
A3) I don't have confidence that my ideas are good enough or that people want to hear them. I'm not sure they are innovative enough for a "real" conference. #nvedchat
A2: I try to choose things that are new to me. I love to bring back new ideas. Last year was @Flipgrid and this yr I'm leading a session on it at the CUE Tech Conference #nvedchat
A2 there are some sessions I go to and think..duh, or I've known about this for years. BUT everyone has a different perspective, I try to at least take one thing new out of it! #nvedchat
True...then the other reason comes into play... the $$$ to present can be too much especially if it is a long flight and hotels are expensive. #Nvedchat
A3) I've been presenting for a few years now. But this past summer was the first time I presented something I was really proud of. I think a lot of Ts feel like everyone else is doing what they're doing anyway. Trust me, they're not. Ts need to hear from you. #nvedchat
I still think cohort 1 should get together and present what we have done and taken to our schools since completing. We've all made significant changes. #NVEDChat
A3: I don't feel that I have too many original ideas.
Plus, my current role as Tech Director isn't "classroom" enough for most conference presentations.
#nvedchat
A3 last year I really challenged myself to present more, enjoyed presenting @actecareertech National conf, will be presenting @CUENV but I’m stepping back a little this year just because I’m busy with a masters, next year I’ll be ready again 👍 #NVEdChat
R3: Honestly, I never would have presented if my district at the time (#schk12) didn't launch its own conference four years ago. I didn't think I had anything original to say. I still might not have anything to say. #NVEdChat
I think you are wrong.. there are all types of people at a conference.. its important to have a continuum of ideas.. not everyone is ready for all ideas! You could be helping them move ahead! #nvedchat (but you'all have awesome ideas!)
A3 I think that people know about what I want to present and other might do it better. I have gotten over that recently, and just share all the time #nvedchat
A3: I took a couple years off from presenting because I was getting acclimated to the new classes I was teaching. Now that I am more comfortable, I look forward to presenting more. #nvedchat
My freshman comp teacher in college started the year by telling us, "if you want to say something, you have to have something to say." Only thing I remember him saying. #nvedchat
Walking out when it’s not going to be helpful to you is a bit of an art form, I still feel guilty but I have friend who is pretty good at it @BonanzaFire#Nvedchat
a4) Conference proposals are due between 6 and 9 months for big conferences... so add it to your calendar.. Example #iste19 is open now for June. https://t.co/FwKbIZtO32#nvedchat
A4: universal, room for participants to engage/try/talk. Incorporate take away, media, links so that presentation lives beyond its time slot. #NVedchat
A4-Have to make it fun and interesting. Who really wants to sit thru a boring presentation. Yeah you may have to dance, use slogans, tell a joke, but your audience will be that much more engaged! #NVedchat
I did eventually put together some things in Hammond & Valpo on building a PLN & curating e-learning day activities. Kinda fun and I had a good time. Even had my teacher friends doing the Temptations Walk last summer. (Got to get people up & moving after lunch, right?) #NVEdChat
A4) iF I we're going to present, I would want to make it something that is doable in the classroom, that breaks barriers, removes fears and can be done by any teacher who wants to do it. Not just "best practice" stuff, but the real aspects of teacherlife! #nvedchat
A4 look at the conference theme, try to connect to that, some have pretty detailed process, so you just have to follow the steps. Trying to find catchy titles can be tricky, I started a list, since they kind of come to me at random times now #nvedchat
A4: #nvedchat
Having never presented at a conference, I will guess at this one:
1) Who is the intended audience?
2) What is the critical point of the presentation
3) Stay focused
A4) Be passionate about the topic & when possible build in work time for the session. I am a fan of the collaborative documents from #EdCamps - refer to them often when stuck. #nvedchat
A4: Can a teacher use what I want to present easily or is it going to go in a pile of ideas that are "saved for later"? and Am I passionate about this topic? #nvedchat
Almost out of time.. Pay attention - the conference call is often 6 months before the actual conference - put a reminder in your calendar right now! #nvedchat
My thing right now is, I want my attendees doing & thinking & talking. I got way more than I gave last June talking e-learning days w/Ts&Ps at #eVillageNWI. Massive firepower in that room. I just needed to get the convo started then sit back & watch the magic happen. #NVEdChat
Remember to not just think of you.. I have to remind myself.. I use a lot of tech.. my B idea is someone else's A++++ Everyone is at a different spot. #nvedchat
I am outta time.. but don't you miss out #iste2019 taking proposals through Sept 27!! https://t.co/FwKbIZLoUA#nvedchat
I am happy to help anyone thinking about putting in a research proposal.. (love action research, and graduate work!!!!)
Thank you @DrTerriC for moderating tonight's #NVedchat on #EdTech Conferences.
Don't forget to follow the great tweeters from tonight!
See you next week!
Ooooh, that was fast. Thanks, #nvedchat people. Awesome work by @DrTerriC as moderator. Thanks for letting me think & learn with you all. Have a great week and we'll catch up next Monday.
Also: Bears.
I can vouch for @danvandebunte's presos last summer. Good stuff. He's got a knack for taking all the stuff that's floating unformed in my head and turning it into something useful for my kids. #NVEdChat
A3) I've been presenting for a few years now. But this past summer was the first time I presented something I was really proud of. I think a lot of Ts feel like everyone else is doing what they're doing anyway. Trust me, they're not. Ts need to hear from you. #nvedchat
I agree, heading to one next week I’m excited to check out, I’ve had people suggest I present there but this is the first year it even worked for me to attend! Sept is a hard month to travel, but I’m excited to check out national #healthscience consortium in Colorado #NVedchat
This is a great group at a great time of week and night..I hope we see you again .. Some of us Dream of Nevada but just don't live there yet! #nvedchat
I had just been to the Motown Museum a few months before and they did a similar thing with us - the tour ended in Studio A (The famous Snake Pit) where we sang & danced to My Girl. Seemed like something we could all do together at #sselearn. #NVEdChat
Thanks, @thedullguy. You're no slouch either. I thoroughly enjoyed your session on eLearning days. I always tell myself that I need to look into the @Desmos teacher and student resources and I never do. Which I regret b/c those activities look really engaging. #nvedchat
