GBO!! we bleed orange together! https://t.co/yJyhwnPfdG
Oh you'll have a fan in for sure as a former UT student herself!
Here is Q1 --->>> https://t.co/83gftFlJlX
Q1: What is “informal learning” & how is it different than formal learning?
A1: I would think a learning opportunity that you didn't intend to happen...not planned but valuable
A1: I'm not sure what "informal learning" is, but my guess would be all the learning that happens around a direct lesson or IRL
A1: Informal learning? Any unstructured learning we do, passive or active. Reminds me of lifelong learning & a certain .
A1-informal learning comes from experiences not direct teaching
Super (get it?) excited for today's !
A1: Informal learning happens when we let our Ss lead their learning.
A1: informal learning/teaching happens through discovery instead of through a scheduled lesson plan
Like that way of putting it, learning is everywhere, not just in the "boxes" folks try to put it in!
A1: Informal learning is learning that happens naturally, maybe even unplanned. My favorite kind of learning!
A1: I think of informal learning as happening without a plan - more spur of the moment, spontaneous. Formal learning is planned.
A1: Informal learning is something that comes naturally, not planned.
A1 Informal learning not planned happens anytime a a-ha moment hits Formal planned instruction can lead 2informal w/disruption
A1: guess- informal learning just happens while formal is planned. I would think they can happen at the same time though?
A1 is informal what really prepares ss for life? https://t.co/YfvRonbeTL
Q1: What is “informal learning” & how is it different than formal learning?
informal can mean away from a formal situation(noncredit) or location such as a classroom
would describe it in that way as well Jesse, happens in non-traditional or informal settings/times/etc.
Do you think informal learning could be planned?
A1: It sounds like inf. learning is what happens when I'm spending time with friends, and I utter the phrase, "I'll Google that!"
A1 informal is natural learning like children do through play. It the way we learn through discovery and mistakes
A1: And as Ss make meaning of their learning, other learning takes place that was not intended.
Tracy in North Tx - loving that Nebraska alum, Clete Blakeman is head referee for
My Ss will remember me for YEARS!
Yes, I think you could semi plan an opportunity for learning to happen...but the exact learning is unplanned
A1) Informal learning is to formal as culture is to government
A1: Informal learning occurs as a result of Ss being self directed... I think.
In that regard, many forums (even this chat) might be seen as informal learning I believe
Yes!
https://t.co/WszTvhLJ6k
A1: It sounds like inf. learning is what happens when I'm spending time with friends, and I utter the phrase, "I'll Google that!"
I think we can create environments for informal learning to happen...discovery, inquiry, questioning, makerspaces
a1 informal learning is happening right before our eyes right now
You would hope as a T that your planning leads to it! https://t.co/1ncKUGG1Aq
Do you think informal learning could be planned?
We are going to be throwing in some questions too since we now what is on most people's minds this evening!

Q5: How can admin/leadership best support informal learning by educators? Should they?
A4: Still cannot get over that Katy Perry or Madonna performance.

Here is Q5 --->>> https://t.co/m6igV2fWPg
Q5: How can admin/leadership best support informal learning by educators? Should they?
A5: Yes; supporting them by being encouraging and participating along with them
Those were real people born 9 months after their teams won SuperBowls, not actors or pro singers. https://t.co/qk3dTHs4gQ
Ooo listening to Super Bowl Babies and Seal
A5: provide opportunities/time for it.
A5: Yes, def! Support best by modeling...provide Ts informal learning opps, support when their Ss have informal learning
A5: Back off and let people learn? I really don't know how you can set up an institutional system for this w/o making it formal.
A5 Encouragement, participating in it themselves, offering opportunities for informal learning to happen...
A5: Admin/s can best support informal learning by empowering educators to self reflect & choose what types/forms of PD work best
A5: The best way to support informal learning is with streamlining processes to give more time and trying different kinds of PD.
A5: Allow Ts to experience their own informal learning during staff meetings and PD days. Also, encourage convo's in classrooms.
A5 Trust and provide time for conversation.
My POV resounding Yes. Empowers sts voice/choice Gears learning to meet their needs https://t.co/zVQdDdCC6v
Q5: How can admin/leadership best support informal learning by educators? Should they?
A5: yes bc informal learning is often personal choice & relevant to the learner which = buy-in, encourage it & ask Qs
. A5. Recognizing that being in front of a screen does not mean everyone is on Facebook. The internet=instaneous learning
Self reflection is so important! https://t.co/1dr8ukVwEs
A5: Admin/s can best support informal learning by empowering educators to self reflect & choose what types/forms of PD work best
Love this. Being a part of the conversation and learning is key.

A5) yes they should!!! It ridiculous to think that we can plan all learning for all learners
A5: Shout out to for embracing Twitter Chat to encourage teachers to just talk, rather than forced to listen.
My admin let us select topics/methodology during our PLC time = empowerment!
Me too. is amazing. I've started using it for instant feedback for classroom obs too.
A5 - the best Ed leaders model informal learning!
I think our principal, does a GREAT job of this!
A5: Leaders must model their own informal learning, join with others, engage in convo. Be learners.
Love it. I saw a preview the other day. Either parents were thrilled or sad depending on their team. OMG bad me
A5) how much of our learning came from living life versus school rooms?! Informal>formal learning
Model it with unconference model. Show, don't just tell. https://t.co/XqitWYY0Nj
A5: Allow Ts to experience their own informal learning during staff meetings and PD days. Also, encourage convo's in classrooms.
cats coming out of the beard in the Axe commercial, thought of
I don't learn well or accomplish much when I am supervised. Plus, informal learning by definition?
Yep...preparing for Ss for life should always trump preparing them to bubble in correctly! https://t.co/JxAQleXDkY
A5) how much of our learning came from living life versus school rooms?! Informal>formal learning
I'm late to the game. Informal learning? paraphrasing tweet I saw: Twitter + Super Bowl = whole world watching together. :-)
A5: Lead by example. Admin shares how they are participating in informal learning and encourages staff to join in.
Q6: What is your all time favorite Superbowl? What happened/who won?
Ss used to love it! They'd split quarters so no commercials were missed, some VCR'd too b/f dvd
Me too Leslie, I like to choose & if given power to select am always harder on myself than PD would ever be!
A5. Encourage use of digital devices in formal learning situations. Allowing for back channel discussions
Our in-house PD is weekly at end of day, and if there is something specific to do, I do it. Otherwise, I lack focus.
A5: Any Super Bowl w/the Cowboys 4 life!!
Glad I could stay for a bit. Making connections to a shared experience whether we watch game commercials or halftime Thx

A6: Don't pay enough attention to the games to be able to recall. I do remember music...Aerosmith, JT, and Janet...
A6 The 90s were a happy time for Super Bowls. Hard to be a Cowboys fan : (
I know you weren't alive for that one sir!!
JT and Janet for me too. Happened in my hometown.
Hope they make it back someday....perhaps post-Jones!!
A6: Dallas & Buffalo Lett celebrated 2 early & Beebe knocked ball out of his hand. True meaning of Being an athlete nvr give up.

A6: when the Cowboys went to Pasadena. My elem school was so excited the week leading up to SB was full of fun learning with FB.
Wait, there was a football game during the Beyoncé concert?
A7: We need more open ended activities that allow for Ss to come to various conclusions, def more experiential learning w/?s
A7 Student centered, PBL, conversations around learning, time for reflection
Our speaker at church today mentioned Coach Landry. Said he’s probably the only coach we will ever had. (still)
A7: engaging in more student driven learning. Let the kiddos guide the learning, collaborate, explore, play...
A7: makerspaces, genius hr, ed camps, build your own PD, book talks, Twitter
A7 Going to have Ts share a pic of student work related to our focus this week daily and tag to start convos
a7. Yes! Allowing for freedom and personalization of learning situations creates many opportunities for informal learning.
A7: By trusting our Ss and not feeling the need to control every learning experience.
A7: Set up opportunities for Ts to have conversations to help facilitate their learning. Teacher Learning walks in Ts classrooms
A7 My Ss and I discussed reading a book or solving a problem is not learning, the skills connected to each = the real learning
should add, not the cats per se but could see you using that as an image for chat :-)
Nicely done Sarah, love it! There was football game that broke out during the Beyonce concert!
by collaborating, sharing, tweeting, modeling. By taking risk and letting students take ownership of their learning.

. One caveat with informal learning-it can't be assessed with standardized tests.
yes! Best way is find big idea& ask related driving Q that is open ended; Ss off in diff directions
by asking open ended question that will lead to meaningful conversation and learning. PBL and making connections to real life
