Phil from Northern Virginia. I teach 6/7 US History I&II and am the founder of #waledchat (Thurs @ 9pm ET) and #Edusations (Youtube). Thrilled to be here tonight! #fcpslearn
Hey #fcpslearn! Jumping in here for the first time. Kristen from MN. 4th grade teacher and co-author of a blog. My favorite Christmas cartoon is Charlie Brown (it counts!)
#fcpslearn First this graphic! Love how you weaved in the logo there, @ScottLewisITC. Life generally gives me joy though. First and foremost, my family - they make me so happy! At work, I love being able to contribute and work together with a group of people for a common goal.
A1: Joy for me comes from being the best me, doing for others and making a difference in the lives of others. I feel most complete when I am in the service of others...or meditating for me. #fcpslearn
A1 #fcpslearn
I find joy in being able to make someone else smile and affect their life in a positive way. There is enough negativity in the world, no need to add to it!
Shamira Peters. I reside in Texas. I am Educators Rising National Vice President; future educator. Favorite Christmas movie: This Christmas. 🎄 #fcpslearn
Welcome to #fcpslearn. Please introduce yourself, your location, your role in education and tell us what your favorite Christmas cartoon/movie character is.
A2: Bringing joy to Ss happens in many ways from valuing Ss voice and choice to simply deeply listening to Ss share experiences, learning, etc.
#fcpslearn
Hi everyone. My name is Stephanie, I am from Connecticut and I am a kindergarten teacher! My favorite Christmas cartoon/movie characters are the characters from the 1970s christmas movies! Old favorites 👇🏼 #fcpslearn
A2: I love playfully teasing them, laughing, encouraging...basically being a "dad" at school. Helps me try new approaches (and jokes), and as a result, I learn to be a better dad at home. #fcpslearn
A2: By being there for them. A listening ear. Hugs. A rabbit trail from the curriculum to go look at the snow or tell them a story. Making sure they know they matter. #fcpslearn
A2: #fcpslearn I try to point out the awesome ways they are learning and contributing being very specific, so they know I thoughtfully care about them. Also, I used to have "Fun Fridays" in a class where Ss watched a viral YouTube video and we discussed it in class.

HI all! Kristen here from PA. I teach 6th grade science. I love Buddy the Elf. Because... I mean... he may be my spirit animal... he makes me feel a little more normal. #fcpslearn
A2: By truly knowing my students, knowing them as humans and as learners, listening to them and honestly hearing them, and being my authentic self with them...I can offer them joy. #fcpslearn
A1: There's not much that DOESN'T bring me pure joy. The way the ss tell me their stories and choose to sit near me and tell me their stories. That I am loved for being myself and nobody else. #fcpslearn
A1b: One of my teachers once told me: Life is a dichotomy of joy and pain. Work through the pain and surely joy will follow. Still have that in writing from her. :) and that is where my focus is when I am frustrated and defeated. #fcpslearn
A2: Honestly I just get to know them and ask them about things; this allows them to speak for themselves and me to learn more about them as people. I also am very outspoken and put myself out there, which usually surprises them and they laugh at how "weird I am." #fcpslearn
A3: There is a former student who every day that she sees me gets the biggest smile on her face and says, "Hi Mr. Strunk!" Makes my heart warm everytime. Glad to know I was a positive figure in her life. Now who is cutting onions in here? #fcpslearn
A3: My favorite gifts this year-
1. Inspirational connections of Twitter Chats.
2. Admin. that partner with me in growing the ways that I want to grow.
3. The gift of presence.
#fcpslearn
A3 my favorite gift has been Opportunity. I have had the opportunity to share my ideas and words, help 10 of my kids get published, and bring amazing opportunities to myself and others thanks to the incredible people around me #fcpslearn
A2 I bring joy to my kids by giving them lots of ownership, voice & choice in their learning.
Today? Wrapping Workshop!
Their parents will burst into smiles at all their hard work - writing books & wrapping them!
#fcpslearn
A2: I am present. I listen to their stories. I ask questions. I make them laugh and allow them to make me laugh. I (try) to get around the room and talk to them about other things besides science. I allow them time and space to breathe and be kids sometmes. #fcpslearn
A3: the best gift from a coworker encouragement to start this Twitter and from my Ss it was the awesome job they did on their sharktank presentations for the industrial revolution #fcpslearn
A2: I bring joy by laughing with them, playing with them and being silly! I encourage them and always try to let them explore their interests and creativity #fcpslearn
A3: Feeling seen and heard. For so many years I drifted through teaching, feeling alone. Through Twitter chats like #122edchat, #champforkids, #waledchat, and the #4OCFPLN, I have been reinvigorated to dig deeper for my students and my own children. #fcpslearn
A3: My favorite gift this year has been knowing that I am helping serve teachers and students around the world—that I am making a difference in the world of literacy and learning. I am in awe of it all. #fcpslearn
A3: #fcpslearn The gift of time and hope when trying a seemingly crazy idea in a classroom! When teachers try something new and trust me enough to either see the idea work or fail (then learning from the failures), I find that time and hope is a gift!
A3~
~friendship 💙... it’s been empowering ...having someone truly in your corner no matter what has been awesome & I am very grateful
~twitter connections ~ no doubt about it 👍
#fcpslearn
A4: The one teaching tradition that I will keep until the end is my tradition of having real, meaningful, person-person talks with my classes about life...just sharing as humans that care about each other and want the best for each other. #fcpslearn
A3: The close friendships I have developed. People gifted me their personality and the ability to really get to know them and that mean't a lot. #fcpslearn
A4: I'm struggling with this one because I change things year to year and with each group of Ss. I guess the tradition I hope to keep is to continue learn and to grow with my students. #fcpslearn
It’s been amazing. I’ve been very fortunate in many ways. It’s also been one of the hardest of my life, but I have great people, they have helped me through the lows and shared in my greatest successes. #fcpslearn
A3 Just some of my gifts this year:
🎁Precious, strong relationships w/ colleagues
🎁Unbelievably-wonderful new loop of kinders
🎁The start of a blog & thinking differently about it.
#fcpslearn
A4: This is a holiday tradition I will continue year after year! We talk about being thankful, spreading kindness, spreading the holiday spirit & this is the second year we took some time to sign cards for people in our building during morning meeting ☺️❣️#fcpslearn
A5: My professional resolutions for 2019 are to complete my 2nd master's degree, form a non-profit for https://t.co/egRuyPzgle, blog more (after the master's), and push myself out of comfort zone whenever possible!
#fcpslearn
A5: Instructional Goal for 2019- Intentional reflective goal setting sessions with groups that want to grow in specific areas (student led groups). #fcpslearn
Q5. #fcpslearn Try to find more time for meaningful reflection with Ts. This is an important step but generally gets pushed to the side for times sake because we have to move to the next lesson or meeting.
A4~
~handmade gifts for our 1st grade buddies ~ glitter is everywhere
~treats to bring home before the vacation ...
~I will write a personal note to each little and will send it us mail during vacation ❤️
#fcpslearn
A5: oh sooo many! But, one is to tailor and enhance my guided reading lessons/instruction to grow my kingergarten readers! I’ve already seen eariler achievements/progress at this time of year with my changes. #fcpslearn
A4
Teaching traditions that never fade:
Build relationships first.
Honor agency.
Provide time to read, read, read. In all contents. In all contexts. In all languages.
Provide time to question.
Provide time to create and innovate.
Provide time to reflect.
#fcpslearn
Thank you for supporting #fcpslearn this past year. I hope that you continue to do so and that you will spread the message during 2019. Merry Christmas to you and yours and have a tremendous New Year. ~Scott
A4: I am a future educator so things I plan to do are growth charts, where kids choose things they need to improve on at the beginning of the year, than talk about how they did that at the end of the year. All about recognizing your growth. #fcpslearn
A4 I will always celebrate priceless books and build experiences with them. Festooning our backyard Storybook Garden for our creatures is one of the best! Thanks to Eve Bunting's "Night Tree." #fcpslearn
Thank you, Scott! This is always a wonderful place to be...with the best of people and the most caring topics to discuss and reflect upon. Peace. #fcpslearn
