Make sure you include in all your tweets and answer as much as possible! Q1 on the way!
-
Q1: Based on the position you coach, how do you teach IZ responsibilities?
-
Josh Hadden- Head Coach @ Aiken Middle School in Aiken, SC
-
A1: RB's: Stance/Start (steps are key), Push towards LOS, Read, Get upfield north-south
-
Q1: OLine's track must match the RB's. Maximize double teams and stay square to provide as many lanes as possible for RB to bend
-
A1: Communication is between the o-linemen with IZ/OZ in regards to responsibilities.
-
Q2: Based on the position you coach, how do you teach OZ responsibilities?
-
Eddie Young, HC/OC Lajeunesse HS, Windsor, ON
-
Q2 zone steps are huge in OZ based on alignment. Work on these skills daily in practice with multiple fronts
-
A1) Work to create double teams on down linemen and combo off late.
-
A2, P1: RBs on reaches should aim at OL inside hip to help get defender to commit that way & help OL. Cut out and look 2 space
-
Cody G. OL/LB/STC Park City, UT
-
A2, P2: RBs on unblocked defender should get north-south to take what's available, look outside for space
-
Q3: What RPOs do you use off of IZ? OZ?
-
Jhett Norman - OC/QB's - Levelland High School, TX
-
A1: Defensively, I teach LB's we're going to "Big Gap" vs IZ, have to be 100% gap sound to stop it
-
-
Q3) Tag up to 5 different things backside and have 3 different Frontside things off IZ - Work Naked concepts off OZ
-
A2: Defensively, we will "Grab a Gap" in direction of OZ, not concerned with cutback, so rip & run in 1st gap open as you go.
-
Lance Kriesien - QBs @ Lamar Consolidated in Texas
-
A3: can't wait to see diagrams to this... Secondary has to handle the Pass & Front 6 the Run, no other way to defend RPO, IMO
-
Q4: When your zone scheme isn't working, what do you answer with?
-
A3) We use fast-tags on the BS and a handful of PS concepts to expose conflict players in space - - an athletic QB helps too
-
A3: slant, bubble, QB read/run, verts
-
Q3 most of our RPO concepts are simple (slants, bubbles, hitches) that are based off of IZ. Defense can't be right!
-
A4: we run a ton of counter trey with the same backside read and its still an backside RPO https://t.co/Y9h27vViqP
-
-
Q4: When your zone scheme isn't working, what do you answer with?
-
A4) Trap City, trap trap city b! 5, 10, 20 yds on your Defense b!
-
A4) Work leverage throws to soften the box.
-
Q5: What gives your zone scheme the most trouble?
-
A4: jet sweep and quick hitters out of empty or get in our wing scheme & run toss, Sally, & counter til u stop it
-
A4) +1 run game with QB helps....if ya can't block em, don't. Midline, Option, Quick screens to supplement zone deficiencies
-
Q6: What adjustments do you make to your IZ/OZ blocking to handle different fronts?
-
Q7: How do you involve your fullback in your zone scheme?
-
-
Great chat tonight! Its great to see how we approach common schemes with our own touch!
