GOOD MORNING! There are three questions this morning and our ever growing #PLN is thrilled you've decided to join us! Please introduce yourself and share the last time you sat on an actual front porch swing. #BookCampPD
#BookCampPD A1 Hi all, Stryker here from Buffalo NY. Keep the end in mind is a concept I learned from the book 7 Habits of Highly Successful People. It is the first thing I ask when I'm training individuals or groups of people in my school district. And helps me understand them.
Brent from Magrath, just home from holidays last night first time in the gym in almost a week. Happy to chat this morning with #BookCampPD and #EduGladiators
Good morning, #BookCampPD friends! Sara from Cincinnati here - current school counselor, but shifting to Asst. Principal in July. Sat on a porch swing just last night!
Q1. Please share a strategy or resource you have implemented in your classroom, school or district that you learned about from a book you've read. #BookCampPD
A3) I am looking for more specific ways to support SIFE kids. These are some books I use and plan to use to further my own personal professional development at home. #BookCampPD
A1: Follow the “one-minute rule” that @gretchenrubin talks about – Never postpone anything that takes less than a minute to do! File that paper, shut that door, straighten that chair, smile at someone, say hello! #BookCampPD
Q1. Please share a strategy or resource you have implemented in your classroom, school or district that you learned about from a book you've read. #BookCampPD
A1: I implement lots of @PaulSolarz Learn Like a Pirate choice ideas in my classroom on a daily basis. I try to make the student feel empowered and responsible for most of our classroom activities and tasks. #bookcamppd
A1: The Essential 55 @mrronclark_ had some great advice for setting up a positive classroom environment. Also, calling parents with positivity and making a positive relationship first was great advice. Parents are a great support. #BookCampPD
Q1. Please share a strategy or resource you have implemented in your classroom, school or district that you learned about from a book you've read. #BookCampPD
So glad to be here!!! Turned in finals last night...have 2 weeks until last courses start. 1. Exercise 2. Clean my house. 3. Read! 4. Get my senior graduated!!!! 5. #bookcamppd
A1 When I taught elem, I don't think there was a strategy from @TannyMcG Comprehension Connections that I didn't use! Abstract to concrete reading strategies...AMAZING! #BookCampPD
Q2. This month we are highlighting - "Code Breaker" by Brian Aspinall. For many of us this is a new concept. With any new initiative, what might cause you to hesitate implementing the strategies/resources? What would encourage you to move forward? #BookCampPD
#BookCampPD A1: I’m a HUGE fan of frequent, small group purposeful talk. I encourage teachers to set up routines & then do it as much as possible! Critical thinking & speaking = amazing formative assessment
More amazing author who were our guests on #BookCampPD When I finished their book I quickly put it into an envelope and sent it to my critical friend @ramonadixon20

A2: Classroom application. I tend to make judgments before diving in and if I don't know if it will be applicable to my class I tend to not give it time. #BookCampPD

A1: I (we) implemented a stations strategy for providing our Ss different opportunities to grow and learn at different speeds so that my SPED partner teacher and I could be more available while also allowing kids to grow/work at their own pace. #TeachinginTandem#BookCampPD
A2 I have hesitation when it is something not only new, but that NO ONE else at my school is doing. I just focused on being prepared, and making sure my ducks are in a row. #bookcamppd

After 25 years of being a principal I ran into his book. Such an easy read with ideas that changed the way I approached those who weren't interested in the change process. #BookCampPD

Q1. Please share a strategy or resource you have implemented in your classroom, school or district that you learned about from a book you've read. #BookCampPD
A2: I have been (lovingly) called crazy and out there. I'm pretty open to blowing up the way I do things to try something new. Not just for the kids, but to keep it fresh and exciting for me, too. #BookCampPD
A2: I think remembering that every time you go outside your comfort zone you grow is essential. The biggest thing that makes change easier is having others to do it with you. Also having support to grow no one's going to be awesome at something new for the first time.#BookCampPD
#BookCampPD In Texas, a few of my districts use this easy-to-follow book as their starting place. The “frequent small group purposeful talk” title came from here. @LYSNation
A1 @BreneBrown - Daring Greatly& The Gifts of Imperfection. “We cultivate ❤️ when we allow our most vulnerable & powerful selves to be deeply seen &known,& when we honor the spiritual connection that grows from that offering w trust, respect, kindness& affection.” #BookCampPD
Q3 (a) (b). Please name a skill/strategy you would like to learn more about (a). After doing this, show how this #PLN believes that "sharing is caring" and share a book (b) that could extend that person's knowledge. #BookCampPD
A2: I want to know what the data shows us, what ian the purpose behind it is, and how do we as a school or district believe WE will implement this new concept. Too often those questions can’t be answered, leaving potential new policies floundering. #BookCampPD
#BookCampPD A2: During some very “disruptive innovation” in a previous position, I heard the term “ground softening” a lot. It took time & background-building to make the change happen & that’s hard to gauge or predict. You have to be responsive.
A3.a I really want to get better at connecting my class with the outside world. I hear about “mystery skype” and flipgrid and have no real idea how to incorporate it #bookcamppd
A3: I want to incorporate genius hour into my classroom, but haven't yet. I know it's a fantastic idea, but still feel uneasy about implementing it. #bookcamppd
A3: I would like to learn more about parent and community engagement. I want to build stronger parent engagement in my school and bring the community together to celebrate learning more.#BookCampPD
Juggling two commitments & will check back in to add to the thread soon. Can’t recall last time on porch swing but just the thought has swept a calming desire over me to find one and #justread! #BookCampPD
Q3 (a) (b). Please name a skill/strategy you would like to learn more about (a). After doing this, show how this #PLN believes that "sharing is caring" and share a book (b) that could extend that person's knowledge. #BookCampPD
Q3: (A) Self-compassion & patience. We can’t know it all & be it all ALL of the time. (B) @SuperSoulSunday “The Wisdom of Sundays” ❤️ Short nuggets of soothing & inspiring goodness. #BookCampPD
@spiralEDU helped some teachers practice @flipgrids together last summer. She had some fantastic ideas and it was really fun. Maybe we could start a mini-one with teachers from #bookcamppd?
Please encourage person responsible for purchasing professional learning books to quickly order those mentioned in #FAR graphic. Inexpensive, collaborative, summer learning for all teachers! Details --> https://t.co/MYHM8taklM#BookCampPD
"Let them speak" from @RebeccaCoda is one of them...I'm sure there will be another at the same time; helps me push towards my #sixtybooks challenge #BookCampPD

A1 Living through the lenses of authors & inquirers! "About the Authors" @KatieWoodRay has impacted so many Ss' literacy lives. The ways in which Dr. Heidi Mills lives & learns alongside Ss & Ts are incredible - lrng as readers, writers, scientists... Life-changing! #BookCampPD
Thank you all for being here this morning for #BookCampPD. Next Saturday, May 19th @Isham_Literacy will be our guest moderator for "Shine the Spotlight." We hope to see you then!!
