ha! Idk? It changed my clothes for that particular one!
a1b: Granted, depending on the level of staffing and the technology magic needed, sometimes the can be buried and hidden
A1 As the tech leader of our school I usually talk with our tech team weekly...usually me bugging them for something
A1 I often don't see Ts unless there's a problem but we all say we wish there were more time for some spontaneous PD
A1: Our district has us email any questions and concerns on an as needed basis. Never hardly ever face to face.
Hahaha! I know the feeling because I also do both.
Hi Greg. Will I see you at :)
A1: Mostly when there is a tech problem.
A1 Interactions occur at least a couple times a week about various topics

A1: As a student teacher, I speak with Tech Director 2-3 times a week- really helpful to be aware of updates, changes, etc.
a1 at least once a week in person, once a month for other campus tech coordinators - email weekly for workshops and initiatives
Dan, business teacher from St. Louis.
@@ohsoearly who do I follow for Qs?
A1 Not too often, just when nd IT support, or during PD
If I hadn't failed Spanish I'd know what that means. Otherwise you just made me want nachos for the game tonight
Kevin Fagan, also a student teacher through the University of Arkansas!
Kevin Fagan, also a student teacher through the University of Arkansas!
Q2 coming up in 1 minute…
Sometimes Ts don't know what they don't know, or fear what they don't know, role is baby steps
A1: I help and get the assistance for the help inspire and narrow focus of becoming an expert
A1: I help and get the assistance for the help inspire and narrow focus of becoming an expert
A1. I don't talk with them often They leave me alone .... I call to reset password.
A1: In my building, I sit down with admin once a month and meet with curriculum area Ts weekly
A1: I interact with our building tech people almost daily.
A1) My best friend is of sorts so I try to talk to him daily. I'm the schools tech admin/ Admin admin
You should have been there for the argument I had with myself this morning.
A1: Only when I need to get software pushed out to the computers in my lab (and firewall issues).
Hi, ! We're a few minutes later... but we're here!
yes ! We offer two workshops at school and one webinar throughout the week..
Now, I do work with my Title 1 office. Does that count? :)
A1: Every chance I get! Gr8 way 2 see what's coming in the district!
I've always heard it's ok to talk to yourself as long as you don't answer 😳
Q2: How involved in the decision making process is your for devices, policy, direction, etc?
Mark G from Southern NJ checking in, 5th grade teach, game lover and tech geek
A1: our district tech dept at least once a month to work on new tech in the district.
Bummed to be missing the live part of tonight but enjoyed learning the ropes from
Also get input from tchrs and admin in district on their new ideas and I work on getting it for them.
So true. Hardest part is knowing what you don't know -OR- knowing what it's like to not know. https://t.co/GOBDRzSl4p
Sometimes Ts don't know what they don't know, or fear what they don't know, role is baby steps
Glad to see student teachers involved in Twitter chats.
Are you also a classroom teacher along w/ tech coordinator?
A2: The Framework recommends that has seat at the leadership table.
A1) Is it sad to admit that we don't have that position @ our school?Wrking on it. Crawling out from dino pits.
Thanks fro the endorsements!
Our department is pretty responsive to our needs, small crew, but they get the job down,
It might be good to look at a cooperative and proactive approach. With more involvement in planning and integration.
A2: Techdir is a guru in all these decision areas. Major influencer! 💪
Increasingly central so far as I know. More and more decisions are at some level traveling through tech dpt.
Love to see the passion behind this. :)
ANyone on the hangout or youtube watching? Don't know if I am talking to myself :)
A2 When we make new tech decisions, our heads a team of people from different parts of the district. All hands on deck!
On a daily basis! https://t.co/be27Grcjdr
A1: All district librarians serve as 1st level tech support so we work closely with tech dept!
A2. Very involved. With recommendations from tchrs and admin. Also try to get input from parents and students.
no...just the building's tech coordinator. Our district doesn't have MS or HS level coordinators teach Ss
A2 As , I chose devices & infrast, but I worked with the head of school for policy/direction. https://t.co/FHFwujt33o
Q2: How involved in the decision making process is your for devices, policy, direction, etc?
It's all about quality not quantity https://t.co/i7lUaWwGN3
Our department is pretty responsive to our needs, small crew, but they get the job down,
Three times a week? That's awesome!
He has a tech committee that he gets input from.
Having trouble with these questions - what kind of tech director are we talking about?
A2: Honestly, I'm so far down on the totem pole that I don't know what our techdir does.
A2: Our is instrumental in decision making for purchasing, policy, vision, etc. with guidance from district tech team
A2: he is very involved. AND he makes sure to pull Ts together and gain their input to make sure it's functional.
Being in role can't answer #2
As long as you're on the right track. Hope for someone who gets Ed & Tech. Lots of IT don't get Ed.
We have several levels of Tech Admins and all are inv with diff parts. One is great w/mnthly f2f chats for our pilot 1 to world
So essential to engage all stakeholders and build organizational trust https://t.co/Hxmdbi8kuk
A2. Very involved. With recommendations from tchrs and admin. Also try to get input from parents and students.
A2: I found them to be quiet difficult. The higher authorities need to make approvals and unfortunately they lack tech benefits
oh ok. I see contracted out tech teams more and more now.
A2b But I would also throw ideas out to Ts to get a feel for what they would like.
VERY involved. Sometimes misuse policy gets muddled and tech team left out of process&knowledge https://t.co/xpRww7wLvh
Q2: How involved in the decision making process is your for devices, policy, direction, etc?
A2:Thinking back, almost the final word, could at least override if completely disagreed, but the ones I had listened
A2: Because my role is tech dir, PD & ed coach all blended - I have a lot of input. Admin also allows for a lot of T leadership
A1: Q & A often bc gr8 way to push for new tech & show what tech is like on the front lines
A2 I'm afraid I must refrain from answering this one but it's a great Q.
A2 I am not sure, makes recommendations, should have input, lead, build team,
That's great that they have a distinct role for tech coordinator! It's such an important one! Thnks for sharing.
A2: I've earned my admins respect for decisions. We just bought Chromebooks per my recommendation and will add makerspaces too
A2) tech dir involved b/c of tech survey sent out to Ts and Ss.
A2) My district tech man is my go to before I get new devices and then I consult my Twitter PLN as well.
well that was quite the hello... :)
Hi Richard from New Zealand. Struggling to find the Q tweets :-)
I've taken on a lot of the EdTech side (I know that's scary), but still have no idea about the IT side. https://t.co/ruAy89meVj
oh ok. I see contracted out tech teams more and more now.
Did you win? I once didn't talk to myself for a week over the silliest little thing;-)
Totally agree. With everyone onboard, get more buyin on purchases.
Being ont he same page as the school leader is critical!
A2c Biggest thing is making sure all the tech pieces fit! You don't want devices that wont work with your infrastructure!
Brian, Librarian Lakeside JHS, Springdale, AR joining late.
True but sadly, the opposite is also true.
Any of you cool folk heading to the Summit in NYC next week? https://t.co/N24tia2437 There's a FREE networking pass avail
A2: critical for Dir of Tech to be part of strategic planning & not just to clean up the mess. https://t.co/N4V6PzX3TZ
Any of you cool folk heading to the Summit in NYC next week? https://t.co/jHjGlbHSOW There's a FREE networking pass avail
btw, hi !!! Long time no see!! I miss your face!! :) https://t.co/ruAy89meVj
oh ok. I see contracted out tech teams more and more now.
Hi all, I've never been home on time for , so... Hey! I'm Brent.
A2: the tech dir is very involved but nothing can happen without approval of higher authorities:(
I think I'm in that role but I'm really not... But don't tell me. :-) .
a1b my colleagues come in to play with the new tech - makey makeys, arduino powered machines, leap motion, 3D printed gizmos =)
A2: As a student teacher, I'll be honest and say I have no idea. I'll definitely start looking into it at my school district!
I'd anything - sounds like a good chat topic
a2d I believed in creating an environment where we could go in any direction, that would support faculty innovation in tech
Then you need to sit and have lunch with them and find out! Share!
What's up with the IT side?
We split roles in tech like that. Dir of Networks, Dir of Inst. Tech, Mgr of Hardware & Multimedia Dir. Works well.
A2: To be completely honest, I'm not sure. I'm a student teacher and am not quite as in the know about that.
good to hear that you have such a positive experience w/ this!
Q2: connected to providing the tech to help in areas we cannot provide, motivation
I know! Been traveling the last few weeks:)
A2: pretty responsive, good team to come to schools for PD and maintenance
A1: We meet every couple of months with Super, TOSA, and Tech Dir to talk tech
I really don't know my role so get your confusion :))
A2: I have a good understanding of what Ts need & want at my school. Ts share w/ me their tech needs and I try to make it happen
Got to makes sure those contracts know edu. bridges the gap!
A2) Our students bring their own devices but I decide on all core system decisions. E.g. moving to GAFE.
A1) I'm not aware of anyone in charge of those things at my school... 😿
Internet is the big dilemma.I have M.Ed in Ed tech, but know literally nothing about the IT side of life. https://t.co/kWSK4Fm1DV
What's up with the IT side?
Q3 coming up in 1 minute…
. Um, yes? I had a transparent calculator back in tha day. So awesome!
Some hold multiple roles which make it hard to meet all the needs
We have at least 1 tech coord at every school in our district. One hardware person and a media specialist
Ditto! https://t.co/P2o45mOeRd
A2: I have a good understanding of what Ts need & want at my school. Ts share w/ me their tech needs and I try to make it happen
Should it happen w/o approval of Ts? Not just higher authorities? They're not the ones using the tech in classroom
Then invite them to your classroom!
What about students who don't have a device?
Q3: What do you wish your knew about your classroom/curriculum?
How about Ed Coaches? Love the investment in tech. How invested are they in the PD?
Break it down for me. What are you trying to focus on now?
A2: I am generally involved in all Tech purchases, but there are always exceptions to that norm.
instructional coaches are assigned from the district level to clusters of schools
We all multitask :) It is part of our makeup https://t.co/3pVtFmQFen
Some hold multiple roles which make it hard to meet all the needs
A2) ugh, since there isn't really a person I guess 0%? I picked the wrong week to jump in on ...
A3: the needs of our students for good digital content and the teachers for more training
A2: at it's a collaborative process that involves all stake holders
he makes sure that the tech is what Ts want and let's us pilot a few devices to make sure.
We signed up, but following along on Twitter right now.
Exactly! I have been the lone wolf and pushed the school ahead, but it takes a toll on you.
A3: Our techdir knows what we do in the library and constantly supports us. She is !
Interesting! Thanks for sharing that. Do you run into many problems w/ Ss being off task on the device?
Is this at a district or state level?
Looking for my tech director here ... nope, not here ... that speaks volumns ...
A3: I wish I had more time in the day to visit classrooms as a to watch and learn
Q3: I wish our tech director put more effort into PD for teachers to utilize technology more efficiently.
wow! Didn't know.. Can I give some more info?
sounds like you are heavily invested in tech - that is great!
A3: many are not educators so sometimes that list is long. #1- this isn't a business, don't treat it as such
I stayed at home, the house of fun, but for some reason, Nora didn't show up. I don't know why she didn't come.
That's so frustrating. Need admin to be involved in the process. Not sitting on the sidelines.
A3 would like to know that we can troubleshoot some ourselves. We need help with connectivity.
A3 as a techie I wish curriculum &tech worked hand in hand-it should be a strong bond to meet needs https://t.co/crAcUVTIvd
Q3: What do you wish your knew about your classroom/curriculum?
A3: When load times are sluggish, that extra transition time can kill a lesson. I always pick the most frictionless option.
A3: do people have more than one tech director per district?
A3 I battled over getting apps pushed until 2 was ago. I had no space left for student work and when I del an app it came back.
Internet speed is easy to figure out hard to fix. State testing - trying to fill a pool with a garden hose.
As a I love delving into how can be integrated
A3. That I can't stop my lesson to email on spot when there are issues. The show must go on. 36 bodies unattended are dangerous.
Nora Jones gifs are hard to find
A3 I believe our tech sept is very understanding and supportive of the needs of our teachers always in classrooms
A3 I wish they would always put students needs first. I think sometimes they get distracted latest and greatest.
Spent time as T in the classroom as an aside to job at first school for 7 years.
yes I agree! I get frustrated and disappointed so many times..they won't stop me. I will keep learning& sharing tech
that's even better! All should be piloted first! How does he get the feedback?
A3 better implementation techniques for the tech we receive
Wondering if our even knows how we utilize our technology. They just pass it off and leave.
I doubt they would use the tech director title, but many have tech coordinators at each school within the district.
Agreed. Just suffering through it right now. Learning curve for us all. https://t.co/ZJNwK58g9Z
Internet speed is easy to figure out hard to fix. State testing - trying to fill a pool with a garden hose.
what I would you want more specifically?
Even though I am just a student teacher, I have seen this in my classroom experiences.
Definitely good experience for career in the long run
Yes - love scheduling tweets, especially the questions for the evening's chat.
A3) I wish my tech director knew that I get my tech from donors choose.
A3: I'd LOVE to have more and training!
If you have iPads, the ERB app has a good stress test for Wifi and testing.
I am an educator who became a and know that is path of others
A3: out building tech is awesome. She makes sure we have access to plenty of chrome labs when needed.
A3. Wish all knew learning isn't always abt speed. s/b supporting good teaching, or it's bad teaching, faster.
A3 The needs we have, certain tools that are blocked, help provide what Ss need,
Awkward moment when you know more than the tech director ... ... I blame my awesome PLN.
Yes. There are tools to figure out amount used. Document it. See if there are resources to get you a bigger hose. :)
A3: I work to try to better understand the standards for all of content areas so I can assist my Ts better since I came from PE
A3 I wish they would realize that theory and implementation aren't always the same thing
A2 I wonder how many tech dir and staff provide ongoing PD to the teaching community?
A3: our district tech used to be teacher so he knows what to look for.
A3: One prob is that techdirs and tech support are spread so thin! Not sure what solution to this is!
I don't think we have tech directors in our board
We do!! Will look it up! Thanks! (Is there a stress test for Teachers too!?! Haha...) https://t.co/ni7c2HkDLE
If you have iPads, the ERB app has a good stress test for Wifi and testing.
A3: Focus should be on efficiency & what works best to help students learn.
but there are business aspects - running the infrastructure behind teaching requires business decisions
We have the same problem. 4 tech support people for 26 schools!
have the ever asked what you need, or can you request?
That's why there needs to be collaboration. Tech from walls out and teachers from walls in
You are right! With so many devices, you need to have ppl troubleshooting as well as innovating the future forward
I know exactly how u feel .
NZ system is inquiry based and so Ss tend to be engaged by their own learning rather than have Ts delivering it.
A3. That there will always be Ts struggling with delivery system. Rollouts need to train/accommodate all skill levels.
yes! more playground time, and let the “why” pull along the “how” of tech use https://t.co/6OxLNklW9f
Q3: I wish our tech director put more effort into PD for teachers to utilize technology more efficiently.
A3 As a tech, I wish that I would be allowed more latitude to help Ts integrate. They need/crave PD & I love to work w/ them
Hire more people? Streamline services, buy better equipment? If not, Suffer.
so who trumps who ... business or academic?
pedagogy drives the business decisions, it's when the reverse happens that we have probs
Have you noticed an increase in interest from teachers?
Q4 coming up in 1 minute…
A3: Tech Dir must know what happens in classrooms otherwise how can they meet Ts & Ss needs? This is a must! Not a "if you can"
Schools are in the business of education. Their customers are Ss, Parents.
has been most attentive & responsive tech dir, she listens. Unfortunately she has taken a position in another district.
I once serviced my entire library. New help desk was annoyed about all my calls until old crew filled them in.
Where do they use the badges at? On their websites? This is awesome, I want to know more!!
Q4: What school policy/rule do you wish your could change to make learning easier?
I'd like to have more time to play with the tech I have ... how can I use this tool in a different way
I supply weekly tidbits for my Ts and then monthly sessions on tech tools to make teaching & productivity better
usually through word of mouth, email, or survey..
A4: I wish our board moved to 1:1 and away from BYOD
agreed - but I need to use tools and techniques that support you but I can get support $ for
I sat through session at last summer. I highly recommend seeing him - if you want to feel bad about US Ed
Is there a plan to move there in time?
They really appreciate being able to pick what they learn. And teachers are getting out to see new tech in action
A3: T's who went through teacher-centric schooling tend to expect learning to come from external PD rather than personal inquiry
A4: Adding apps/extensions with Ts permission-streamline the process so it is not a barrier to instruction.
Always. Always. Have a backup plan. Always.
great point -more importantly that teach the pedagogy, give sample lessons, & frameworks (TPACK) underlying the tech
A4 student phones in the classroom for Ts that want to utilize them. https://t.co/38CmnOurN7
Q4: What school policy/rule do you wish your could change to make learning easier?
depends - with proper budgeting and reasonable plans - academics can win almost all the time
A4. No restrictions on browser use. Horrified to discover that some districts block Chrome based on vendor contracts. :(
Where are you at? I see schools near us going that route, & quite frankly it scares the hell out of me.
A4: Sometimes websites we would like to use are blocked. Feel like that might fall under rules.
not that I am aware of - we went 1:1 at our school - made a huge difference
A4 Being less restrictive across the board with BYOD.
A4: I am hoping to work on IP to encourage development of
We use and they show up on their Canvas profile.
A4: Go 1:1 with Chromebooks for the whole district..allow us to have meaningful tech workshops and encourage Ts to attend !
Agree. This is an equalizer for Ss. Looking forward to this too! https://t.co/3xxGBG18rn
A4: I wish our board moved to 1:1 and away from BYOD
A4 it sounds like next year Ss will get their own Apple IDs and thus be able to download the apps we need when we need them!
A4: Fewer web browsing restrictions. So many interesting topics are blocked under "entertainment."
A4: Obviously student safety is of utmost importance but sometimes I don't understand why certain sites are blocked.
That's really great that Ts are able to share their thoughts before a purchase is made! Need what is best for the Ss.
I don't think so - I don't want to count students as numbers or test scores - neither do teachers
yes...Ts need differentiation for their tech learning just like Ss need for content.
A4 Really, nothing. They've already removed most of the web filters and provide adequate technology
a4: you ask for the manifesto, twitter would break if I answered this https://t.co/FY0SG0hjl1
Q4: What school policy/rule do you wish your could change to make learning easier?
I don't think you need me for that :-)
but I have to be able to account for what is spent to assist them, and I have to have the staff to run it
A4 Internet Filtering. Filtering sometimes is set by other admins, but enforced by . https://t.co/MxzAryvrvC
Q4: What school policy/rule do you wish your could change to make learning easier?
We use at our school. Each badge is a separate page where they learn about new tech.
Do have this power? They are often given responsibility & expectation w/o authority to do. https://t.co/VXIwaITQIH
Q4: What school policy/rule do you wish your could change to make learning easier?
A4: Use of student devices such as cell phones, iPads, etc- so much potential to connect content in engaging ways
A3 If I had my own classroom, I would want my to know what will motivate my students the most.
Since I'm an intern, I can't access google classroom without proper email. Difficult to grade my assignments
well.. we're a little biased w/ our thoughts ;) We'd love 2 chat about how we can help you, though!
A4: Strict website restrictions make it difficult to research effectively.
A3 I wish i could support Ts with modeling or usage of device or support
why? It has made a huge difference at our school, lower income, kids bring machines home
New Apple Classroom and other HUGE changes for Education in iOS 9.3 will be a game changer for school owned devices
Can you talk to him/her about it? It can be done, even with quick tidbit or tinkering sessions
Use tools like to allow Ss and Ts to project their device to big screen
I always fear with BYOD that is is not going to go off well and the drive to go 1:1 will be stifled.
I think it's a combination of wanting to block inappropriate and distracting content.
but if they are ont he leadership team - they can champion change
yes! Ts can help lead the way to using tech in the classroom!
Very interesting. We are checking it out.
A4) some things we buy have to be from a specific vendor... Not always what I believe is best
I meant the BYOD. We are 1:1 iPads (private school) I think BYOD would be very difficult on Ts to manage.
thanks I will look into that:)
I agree, and BYOD can't work in low income areas
That drives me crazy too!
IF on the leadership team. Team work & collaboration must be the culture in place!
But if Ss are easily distracted - perhaps access to content isn't the only issue, blocking it isn't the fix.
a4: yes! stop policing adults, start enabling, keep platforms and systems as open as possible… https://t.co/IQDTywDFZu
A4. No restrictions on browser use. Horrified to discover that some districts block Chrome based on vendor contracts. :(
RT : Q4: What school policy/rule do you wish your could change to make learning easier?
Even in the best of areas, you are missing out on so much control that 1:1 can provide
I am completely behind on questions, but and I are solving problems!
I have the cart in my classroom and I sync all at once
I totally agree - hard on learning management systems BYOD impossible in poor districts
Depends on the financial mindset of school. BYOD is cheaper for school budget, but not sometimes on Ts.
I get it, I do not like the business/education argument, because if we care about kids it doesn't matter
A4: Wish we didn't have as many network firewalls/restrictions as we do. Also wish more time was allotted to work with Ts
Inappropriate content should be blocked, but engaging students can prevent a lot of distractions.
A4 I think it would have to be the method by which we PD. Student centric learning should be modeled in PD process
I never get to keep up once I start talking with someone - but maybe the right people are listening
Apple DEP, MDM, and VPP are magic.
good point - that was talked about at this year
I'll vouch for Great tool - Awesome for tech presentations - switching from iPad to Mac
haha!!! Good call ;) Check out new happenings w n
T's r nervous of tech bc it's new & need more help than I can give at my school due 2 time. More PD's on tech would go FAR!
A4: That there is only one product/software/platform/curriculum/etc that works for all kids, all teachers
do you use canvas because you like it or you have PLTW?
I have iPads right now.. Thanks:)
A4: I'd like to see policy that made it easier to post student pictures - maybe assumption that pics can be posted with opt out
stop worrying about the devices and get the curriculum and LMS working :)
good point - I think it is a bit of a cop out
then 1:! or BYOD no longer matters
I am an advocate of "word processing" vs Word. Open source is great too... especially in providing equal access
A4: let Ts have more admin rights to try out new tech and programs to see what works.
Agreed. That's why so many public schools move to Chromebooks - much cheaper for school.
A4: Being BYOD is difficult as a district policy. Wish we had more tech devices for Ss and Ts to use daily w/ a large school
Trust your Ts and Ss. They can do it right. It's time. Most every child has a computer in their pocket.
Ah ha! Great idea. We use Google Classroom. Thanks for sharing!! https://t.co/8Z2K5nGOrT
We use and they show up on their Canvas profile.
It's made him both popular and reviled. He thinks Ss should have similar responsibilities as adults 4 cellphones.
nowadays is seriously the coolest... would have loved to see this for our schooldays, right!?
Mia from FL just joining|Wish they would ask question about of curr. DIGITAL doesn't = accessible https://t.co/gbHvWNLGcG
Q4: What school policy/rule do you wish your could change to make learning easier?
Got the LMS, then you need the machines, then great digital content to support curriculum
Q5 coming up in 1 minute…
Yes, just takes time. I am pretty self-sufficient ;)
works from the opening keynote https://t.co/XfriexbSwo
A device is not some kind of magical talisman. It is just a tool. Don't try to oversell it. YES!!!!!
Admin access and more access are not the same thing. has to keep network secure and running for everyone.
I have my own cart but no control over install and syncing
How do we get tech to bring Ts into the conversation? Means giving up some control...
Reflector (or similar), Doceri, and NYC Immigration app. Must haves.
Agreed. is great LMS & curriculum is solid. My concern is Ts troubleshooting
I believed in responding to requests as fast as possible so teachers could try things. Just not the "day of" request.
it does in my school - we need to provide the machines
Q5: What advice would you give a new to help them work with faculty & students?
You should also check out for Workspace.
Ts could have more control in Google Management Console. Easy to make different levels of access
Look at and If you haven't
A5: I would say that patience is key. Many classrooms are transitioning to using more tech and can run into problems often.
A4 unblock some sites that are good for and help Ss, some and assessmt sites are blocked
for Elem I found it cumbersome. We use Schoology and I like it better
Lots of scary things like ransomware, etc.... you have to look at the risk to whole school vs payout.
consider CYOD?allows for collab on projects that need uniform devices & adds fraction of cost
I will be very busy tomorrow!! Thanks:)))
A5: Always ask the teachers their opinion when introducing a new tool or making changes. See how it impacts instruction first.
Hi there! Rachelle from Texas!
but the argument over which is better can be left to the school
A5 leadership is about relationships, exhibiting courage, and asking the right questions esp. Is this good for kids
A5: embrace to meet ALL LEARNERS needs#atchat
But initial contact is with tech when putting tech in schools...
1. Listen 2. Support (and by support I don't mean provide 3 hours of PD and then forget about us. Follow up with teachers)
A5: Quality over quantity. One great technology for classroom use is better than five mediocre ones.
A5: Go to conferences llike , get your , and spend time with your teachers
I've had mine for just over a year. Enjoy them.
u should convince them that if u have the control I will leave them alone!! Lol
A5 Tech Dir needs to meet with Ts (or at least Dept Chairs) regularly to know what Ts use & want to use Get feedback from Ss too
A5: Be sure to collaborate w/ your Ts! Allow them to pilot if at all possible.
I agree! It takes patience... And a village! Great answer, friend!
Our tech dir & dept is awesome & do a super job with the rss they have. When I bring a prob. 2 them, they help me fix it quick
A5 job queue issues, be visible, speak into decisions- push when necessary https://t.co/vL441KPhhZ
Q5: What advice would you give a new to help them work with faculty & students?
we use great system, teachers need training
I think as usual there is no single solution, no magic bullet.
Be a team player & act in support of a good, collaborative & encouraging culture. https://t.co/4Vg4Q4syvA
Q5: What advice would you give a new to help them work with faculty & students?
A5: I think communication between the TechDir and Teachers needs to be constant.
I get to see them live at a presentation tomorrow from Apple at
A5: Take time to listen, admit things you don't know, be open to alternatives and take risks that might have amazing rewards
Please! I'd love to be able to whitelist other schools so they can access G Classroom.
A5 It may be a lot of work, but meet the faculty & staff.
A5 Walk the halls. Get in the classrooms. Visit the teacher lunchroom! We'll tell what's up!
Focus on what will work in your environment, including Ts and Ss and community.
A5 HandsOn EdCamp style so choice is involved. Make access to support Easy.
A5 Do a survey, get input, meet people, see what needs are for find opps for Ts to learn, collab
and kept positive & encouraging from both directions. Build each other up, avoid tearing down.
A5: Open line of communication. Consistent communication and collaboration!
Q5: Teach and explain where they can understand. Don't think that everyone understands the basics.
A5: I would advise the new tech director to be patient with the many levels of technical knowledge among the Ts and Ss
Love this, friend! When Ss are the focus- we can't go wrong! https://t.co/yUhR21rZXn
A5 leadership is about relationships, exhibiting courage, and asking the right questions esp. Is this good for kids
Better giving up control than letting them run on their own. Hard to reign it in afterwards.
a5 visit classrooms, sit in on dept meetings, gain insight from faculty on workshop topics, create T teams to attend PD together
A5 I like the way put it in her blog: listen first!
A5: find out who the tech savvy teachers are. Doing a google form survey.. Discuss with them and arrange PDs..
A5 Trust. Trust the Ts, trust the techs, keep them communicating & listen. We all want what's best for Ss & can do it together.
Thank you! I have about 50 made so far. Keep finding new ones to add every week!
Working on my Hapara Certified Educator Cert now.
I agree! A lot of ideas do not work as effectively as T's think they're going to.
of course. We use Chromebooks, but now need machines with hard drives
Exactly. If we are communicating positively, problems can be addressed with less confusion.
A5 - Advice for new - Listen, get feedback, get support, collaborate and of course -celebrate successes!
Maybe a student tech team? They can prob think of tools to make their projects more interesting
It's why we're all there!
- great advice! https://t.co/Bjm8wA2s2a
A5 - Advice for new - Listen, get feedback, get support, collaborate and of course -celebrate successes!
A5: Model what you want the ATs to do w/Ss and scaffold for Ts, Ts, Essential for some usable by ALL
A5 Make sure you are communicating with both Ts, and admins..and fight to make sure you dont get buried https://t.co/h27vsbpLw1
Q5: What advice would you give a new to help them work with faculty & students?
good - hope to do the same in June
A5; GREAT question - doesn't always have the full understanding of edu needs - bring fac and students into conversation
Tech Directors - Tech Coaches have to build good relationships with staff, admin, students, parents and the community.
I saw Hapara last yr. at EdCamp, but we're iPads so..
Likewise Ts should be patient with new regarding what they may not know about
Out of curiosity...why need hard drives?
A5: be there, listen, provide individualized help, tiered workshops, patience
We have struggled with policy - came up with great policy and then started drifting back
& listen to what they may actually know about !
Yes indeed. Mine are better now that they are used to google. Last year was rollout. Messy
I agree! Patience on both sides is important. Then effective communication can take place.
what kind of troubleshooting
Why the need for a hard drive? Can u comment - upside/downside of Chrombook use?
Tough in private school to get tech team moving. Tight schedule w/o much room. Working on it though.
A5: Background in teaching is helpful, having a desire to get Ss/Ts feedback/input in an ongoing fashion-boots on the ground.
Our school has student tech experts. They're each experts in their fav tool or device and help teach others
for Minecraft and some of the Lego kits that need programming
Yes we will. One thing is to please fund apps/sites at a district level. Ts shouldn't have to pay individually.
how many projs req platform spec apps/howoften? get carts to help supplement those projs
A5 Also provide continuous support- the one time "spray and pray" tech training is not enough
If something happens w/ machine, app, website, program, etc... Ss need fix
Positive work environment is not only good for those who work there, but bleeds down to the Ss attitudes as well.
Started that with my 6th grade this year - they loved it! Ts look to them for help too. Gr8 exp!
Q6 coming up in 1 minute…
school culture is important!
Yes it is. Student help desk? Good luck. Hard most places. Difficult in some
Looking at Lenovos - need these for programming and for Minecraft
saw the news but haven't checked it out yet!
A5: also@K12 simple learning register for this.. So many great ideas for technology integration
CBs are an inexp 1:1. Ss need to be taught to use offline options.
with right monitoring and config - you can minimize issues
Haha, Ts are never shy to say what they want!
its a hybrid of byod to allow Ts to have uniform 1:1 model when proj reqs it-
A5) Experience tech driven lessons in all areas from ExEd to Arts to literacy classes see how it's being used
yes, that's when we depend on good support from district - also keep machines in reserve
Leading by example can show our students how to communicate positively as well.
Q6: What is one thing you can do to help your make things better in your school?
We have a student run help desk and it has been great for the students and teachers to get tech help
Have multiple levels of PD. Intro - Middle - Advanced. Don't be afraid to ask people to switch if in wrong PD
That's where a leadership team of division chairs + can help keep things moving forward!
or just switch to Lenovos
and IF it's being utilized.
What if you developed a digital learning team? That's what I did!
Agreed. I think fear stems from moving Ts from minimal tech to 1:1. Evens playing field
I have experts in my class for the different apps we use. I've thought about making badges. https://t.co/rHO528nmYC
Our school has student tech experts. They're each experts in their fav tool or device and help teach others
Yes indeed. We want something that is engaging and works. Not overwhelming or pointless. Preferably funded @ district
Ts with admin rights? That's a thing? The reins are held so tightly! https://t.co/HPsiTiyfrv
A4: let Ts have more admin rights to try out new tech and programs to see what works.
A6: continue to communicate.
A5: Listen. Take the time to get to know your Ts and admin. Underpromise and overdeliver
A6 Share your knowledge with others. Help create the need/desire/favorable conditions for more tech.
A6: Always have a plan B in case tech fails.
A6 talk to them and make them a part of the learning environment.
A6: come up with proposals for tech training and share with them its benefits when Ts use it in class
A6: Understand all they deal with; they aren't the enemy, invite them into classrooms; show what kids are doing
A6 simple be an leader and evangelist
A6 troubleshooting the little things so they don't have to
A6 Dont throw them under the bus when things hiccup. Tech is more of an art, with constant shaping. https://t.co/WXd6yHXHEG
Q6: What is one thing you can do to help your make things better in your school?
I love the idea of badges for students!
A6: Provide support and create conversations
A6. Do some legwork before introducing new so the sees how fits into both curriculum/tech infrastructure.
A6 support the tech director. If something is rolled out, be patient & participate/learn/grow https://t.co/LAsd47QyVH
Q6: What is one thing you can do to help your make things better in your school?
A6 we try to solve easy problems ourselves. "Did you turn it off and on again?"
A6) Have a diverse and knowledgeable tech committee for the school that can troubleshoot and assist others...it may be students
A6 establish routines/classroom management using tech to ensure better success/outcomes
A6: Turnkey what you learn to your peers. Become a tech coach within your grade or wing.
Support! is not the enemy. Communication, communication, communication. https://t.co/ZqjlURTC4V
Q6: What is one thing you can do to help your make things better in your school?
A6 As a digital learning specialist, under a director, I support campuses wholeheartedly and share any concerns w/ her
live this! I need to invite ours more!
Q6: Sure anything is possible; the mind is a power resource
That's a great idea Becky.
Ok here I go again, what does that look like? My 6th is tech team, but help desk very interesting to me.
A6 I can have a no tech back up plan!
A6b realize tech integration is ever evolving and what works/ is available/is best fit may change yr to yr- be flexible
A6 Involve then in the planning stages. Don't expect good relationships to be built on surprises and unrealistic expectations.
Like if it's plugged in.. ;o)
A6: Communicate the needs of my classroom to .
Too many sick people out there. Expanding the reach of classrooms shouldn't come at the expense of the safety of Ss
A6: What if we invited techdirs to present and teach in our libraries and classrooms? Relationship power!!!
sidenote: I long to see and united instead of one place for "Ed" and one place for "Tech" (overgeneralized)
And make sure Admin supports tech initiatives through spending $$ & creating quality PD for Ts
That's the spirit! https://t.co/7VKjeO5kp8
A6: What if we invited techdirs to present and teach in our libraries and classrooms? Relationship power!!!
Amen! https://t.co/z2LebU77Ta
sidenote: I long to see and united instead of one place for "Ed" and one place for "Tech" (overgeneralized)
Have them team teach something when Ts utilize new tech.
seniors interested in pursuing a tech career work in the library for a class period similar to a Genius Bar.
A6b: Once a plan is decided, Ts and should support it to best of ability, not derail it because it wasn't 1st choice
A6 Think of them as your partner in preparing your students in the best way possible. And try to be a team player.
A6: Open communication. Listen and share. Don't blame them for things out of their control (district decisions)
Give them room to breathe understand their other battles, $, policies. May not like their platforms. bigger pic.
but based on what parents post about their own kids, it needs to be discussed
A6b We teach Ss that is ok to fail / make mistakes. and Ts are people too and aren't perfect.
A6: Keep lines of communication open.
they train staff and students, repair machines, and fix tech issues with guidance from tech director.
A6: Try to solve tech problems before asking for their help.
Ss are definitely a great resource for tech support issues
THIS. for what's best for the students! https://t.co/1YwMMB8pwS
sidenote: I long to see and united instead of one place for "Ed" and one place for "Tech" (overgeneralized)
Laughter is the best medicine and learning experience.
- antoher great quote from at https://t.co/9B3UbzJPHn
A device is a tool, and like any tool, it has its purposes. It's not for everything, it's for the right things. -
Can and Should
Also a no tech plan may be the best plan for what you're doing that day.
A6b What if we taught Ss to troubleshoot and help Ts figure out issues to help ?
Thanks for joining this week’s ! Thanks also o & !Don’t forget to follow your new connections from tonight!
I think I might love this idea! https://t.co/nLu4vgNLpf
A6) Have a diverse and knowledgeable tech committee for the school that can troubleshoot and assist others...it may be students
Looking for 2 volunteers who consider themselves mid-level users. Use it/see it at home but not used in class yet.
terrific chat, thanks for moderating
SUCH a great idea for HSers! Wheels turning now for my 7th & 8th. Thks agn for sharing. https://t.co/VgZPnEhf6a
seniors interested in pursuing a tech career work in the library for a class period similar to a Genius Bar.
What a great idea!! Could you imagine a workshop in the library to work directly with students on hardware?
Thank you! Glad to be learning from experienced teachers!

A6 Applicable for Educators, IT, Leaders - Customer Service - The Real Measure of IT
A3: as a tech director need to make time to visit with and listen to Ts to be able to support th well
Glad you could join us! Come back next week!
